    1. Divorce - he has to split assets. If she is dead- he gets it all.
    2. Boat wreck. If Paul is gone- a big chunk of liability is gone.
    3. Drug use. No one to stop him now.
    4. Shame - did not want to shame Maggie. The boat wreck had already effected her in the community.
It’s multiple choice on the motive.

@@sylviaanderson704 Yes, he is capable of answering the question. He just isn’t doing so. The woman is basically asking : what is Murdaugh’s motive? How would killing his wife and son help him get out of the problems he was dealing with (he had a drug problem and was embezzling from the law firm, plus had kept the insurance payout [from the death of their housekeeper] that actually belonged to the housekeeper’s family). But this guy is just talking about how lawyers are never supposed to mess with their client’s money, that it’s a very big deal in their business. I’m sure that’s true and was a problem for Murdaugh, but that does NOT explain what the motive is for killing the wife and son. Attorneys are EXPECTED to explain the motive behind the crime. The lawyer doesn’t need to read the mind of the accused - they are supposed to explain the motive so that there seems to be a reason (motive) for the accused to have committed the crime. I am SURE that the prosecuting side presented a motive and explained it thoroughly. But I have not been watching the court proceedings because of the amount of time involved. So I was watching a few short videos on RUclips to get the highlights, and I have wondered the same thing myself - how would it benefit Murdaugh to kill the wife and son? So I was just annoyed that this man in the clip didn’t actually answer the question. Or maybe they just ended the clip too soon and he went on to answer the question later. And maybe you should calm down a bit. 🙂

    • @jennnyandjeffs
      @jennnyandjeffs Год назад +3

@Synnove maybe he says more in a longer clip. I have one idea: so Alex just learned that day that the law firm found out about stolen funds. He knew he had no defense and would be quickly disbarred. He would have to tell his wife sooner rather than later, and would be highly embarrassed plus have no way to earn money ever again. So in his twisted mind, if he eliminated his son and wife, he'd save himself some embarrassment from having to tell his wife, and he'd gain sympathy and maybe inherit her life insurance and property. That would buy him some time and maybe he'd get away with the murders. It's twisted for sure.

Mark Tinsley (Beach family attorney) said there's no way he would have gotten a judgment on the 30 million dollar lawsuit against Alex because of the double murders, as Alex would have been seen as too sympathetic.
I believe Alex was extremely angry and blamed Paul for the boat accident because the lawsuit was going to (and did) expose all of Alex's dirty deeds. Maggie owned the Moselle property and reportedly had gone to a Charleston divorce lawyer 6 weeks before the murders. If the boat accident lawsuit went away that's a huge motive. He wouldn't have anyone digging through his finances, he would still be a lawyer and everything would go back in his name. Alex testified that when he was stealing his clients' money, he would justify it in his mind. I believe Alex justified these murders in his mind as well. When Alex was asked how his relationship was with Paul and Maggie, he said, "it was as good as it could be." To me, that sums it up. What makes me think it had everything to do with the lawsuit was because that was the 1st words out of his mouth when LE showed up on the scene and when Maggie's sister testified that she asked Alex "who would do this?" His response was, "Whoever did this has been thinking about it for a long time."

@JenniB absolutely, Alex only cared about Alex. It bothered me how he couldn't recall any conversation between himself and Maggie while in the house or at the kennels, other than Paul's high blood pressure. If it were me I'd remember every word my husband and son said. It would be burned in my brain. I don't believe they were getting along and I think she was debating leaving him. If she found out that he stole from clients, the firm and friends, family, I'm positive she would have left.

@@the-finn Yes, I'm certain she would have, especially as she was already unhappy about his drug taking. It was all about show and being the biggest fish in the pond for Alex. Maggie was a trophy bride for him and losing her to divorce would have meant losing face. The motive was a bowl full of facts that actually blended together, rather than one ingredient. And they blended together well!

I think he wanted Maggie to get a loan, with the Moselle property as equity, and she wouldn't do it.

One of the many great lessons that GOD has taught me is that too often, many people allow the demons to overtake them. Sometimes those demons can push people as far as murder or suicide. People can try to rationalize all day and come up with mental and dual diagnoses such as narcissistic disorder and drug addiction. The fact of of the matter is that all of those are simply the manifestations of the demons that operate in a being. Clearly the demons had convinced him that he would get away with it. Obviously I can’t know what the wife was in to, because all the reports I have heard is that she was a good wife and mother. What I do know is that people also tend to overlook the reality that a marriage is comprised of a man and a woman. It takes two. Many times, especially when things end this poorly/tragically- the wife was also partaking in some sort of witchcraft/ungodly activity that invited more demons into the family. Could be she was into consulting with a tarot card reader, addicted to porn, relieving herself- who really knows what she what into. I realize many would say that is no reason to die. Nevertheless, those are sins that if you don’t even feel any conviction for and you bask in it or constantly rationalize it all the time, you become in service to Satan whether you realize it or not. Everything is even more intensified by the curses in the bloodline/linage that we are supposed to be breaking; not making worse.

Satan gets into empty house where there is no God in their lives. Then God turns them over to a reprobate mind and they get worse and worse. I hope the family give their life to Jesus. Satan offered them all of the worldly things of life from generations to generations and look what happened to the family. Satan are no friends of nobody’s He comes to kill steals and destroys anybody that do his work. Their money was blood money. God is still on the throne. God 👀👀Everything and everyone doings. I believe that Alex thought he could contain his illegal money problems with his clients within the firm. He was ousted out by his fellow lawyers in the firm but figured he could make some kind of deal in a hushed up manner to repay what he owed. Partly because he’d always been able to talk his way out of his double dealings, he may have figured that it would be an advantage for his former partners to also work out a payback deal for him quietly to avoid the scandal criminal proceedings might have brought to the firm as well as him. He could very well have been wrong but he could also be right. Two things that weren’t immediately in the picture for him to accomplish that soon became clear to him. A serious suite was being filed about Paul’s boat accident that implicated himself and Maggie as well as Paul. His finances and corruption would soon be openly apparent . The lawyer representing the parents of the girl that was killed in that accident was intensely probing into his fiancés seeking a wrongful death settlement from him. Also any attempt to payback anyone he’d cheated on the ‘lowdown’ might very well be in jeopardy even without the accidental wrongful death suit because the properties were in Maggie’s name. I don’t think he was at all confident that she’d be willing to sign them over to him to either sell or use as collateral for payback. Incredibly it seems he had no real money himself or at least no access to it. So he decided to kill both problems. The probing law suit would be dismissed without Paul. And he’d have access to all assets. That’s the scenario I picture. It’s an ugly one and I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. Hope he never sees the light of day outside his prison walls.

My opinion: There were some things that were about to expose him, therefore he figured killing them would eliminate the bs the son was having questioned and the wife was for financial gain(insurance, I’m sure). He couldn’t kill one without the other. As far as Buster, he’s been the smartest one of them all. He missed up once and sat the hell down. The other kid was causing them too much light on their bs. Just my opinion. When white women say they want a divorce, those husbands go into killer mode!! It’s very scary and sad! Don’t get me wrong, black men do it, too, just to have control, also! Dating is soooo scary, nowadays. He needs to get every year that he deserves. Also, this should be a LESSON for “entitled” people! When you teach your kids to behave in a horrible manner, he/she behavior will eventually embarrass you! These kids were raised off of entitlement!

His family NEVER played by the rules and if they got caught, they had so much power to cover up wrongs. It was just in his nature. I think he did it for multiple reasons. Maggie was divorcing him, maybe she was going to tell what she knew. Paul was becoming a major problem for him, both financially and legally. And they both stayed after Alex over his drug habit. Getting rid of them solves a lot of problems for him.

Paul was called “little detective”. He kept an eye on his dad’s drug use for Maggie. I believe Alex did plan to kill Maggie. He texted her earlier wanting her to come with him to visit his ill parents. I’m not sure about Paul. I wonder if Alex was arguing with Paul that night? Emotions would have been high for both he and Paul. Doubly strained for Alex if he was planning to kill Maggie. So Paul said something that caused Alex to snap and he lost his temper. Paul was messing up Alex’s plans for killing Maggie. Alex had the weapons there, he was ready, so he shot Paul. Maggie ran towards Paul, her baby, Alex shot her stopping he before she could reach Paul. However it happened it was and is horrible. Alex was a poor liar! He’s proved that over and over again!

he killed Maggie because she was going to divorce him. She had already been staying at the other house, basically alone for the most part. she also like to be closer to the beach. the housekeeper, Blanca, had gotten her to go be with Alex that day because his father had started to do bad as he was close to death. Maggie already mentioned her concern that she wanted to meet him in a public place oh, he was acting really weird and sketchy and just different and it was scaring her. They did a really good job of keeping all of this away from The Trial. He wanted to make it look like Maggie still live there and everything was fine. If Maggie would have divorced him, she would have taken half of everything he had and there's no way he could deal with that he was not addicted to opiates, he squirrel that money away somewhere. I like you shop all because it got rid of the boat incident, he couldn't be sued and have any money taken away from him or because Paul would know and he would not be able to live with the fact that he knew his dad killed his mom. I think he would have said something, unlike buster. Busters hanging in there for money or he's just being very ignorant and naive

I agree about the opiates thing.
I believe he was using, but there's no way on earth he was spending those ridiculous amounts of money on them that he claimed.
Between my ex and myself, I've never come across anyone who used like we did and the amounts he's claiming would have killed us straight up. Over n over again.
Don't k ow how he got anyone to believe that

I could've used alot more if I had the money but NEVER 60 pills a day. That's outrageous! It makes me laugh bc it's so outrageous
