  • Let's discuss "natural" versus "synthetic" options for menopause management. It’s only natural that you might have a preference for either “natural” or “synthetic” options for menopause. It would be false to argue otherwise. But how do you know what’s “natural” and what’s “synthetic?” And what makes something “natural” or “synthetic,” anyway? Are all pharmaceuticals “synthetic?” And does “synthetic” mean “artificial?” Are all herbal formulations “natural?” The answers might surprise you. Watch this video to seek the truth.

    So far very much enjoying all the information here (have watched the videos from the beginning). However as someone who has knowledge about the drug Premarin, I must step up and say something. This is a TERRIBLE drug. While it may be very effective for some women, it is 100% at the expense of the horses. Draft horse mares (large breeds are used because they produce more urine) are impregnated, kept in tiny, standing stalls and given very little water so that their urine is more concentrated. They have receptacles strapped to their hind quarters to collect the urine. Even worse than the life they live is the fact that after their foals are borne, the babies are considered useless byproducts and then sent to slaughter. I have been involved in the Equine industry nearly all my life and I know many organizations who work to at least round up some of these poor foals and get them adopted out. But many still get slaughtered. And the mares still live a life of misery. I would encourage you to do your own research on the subject and choose another drug of estrogen so we are not contributing to this terrible practice. For the record I am not a PETA member. I am a horse and animal lover and I would suspect as a vegan, Dr. Taylor you are too. I would strongly encourage alternatives to Premarin.

      Robin Wicker Hmm, this is enlightening and important. I will be listening closely for any good alternatives to the equine estrogen. I am currently on Prempro but will need to be switching to a less expensive alternative , this is very timely, thank you for the comment here.

      Yes. That's one of the things that most people don't know. And once you realize that some of the synthetic drugs are also natural, it opens up so many more options that are more tested and predictable. A big smorgasbord is good for everyone.

    I don' t care if it is natural or synthetic. I just want it to stop these hot flashes that I have had for 11 years! I have tried Premarin, herbal and now Efflexor. None take them away completely and summer is the worst time. Frequency goes up due to temperature increase. However, all reduces the night time sweats and insomnia. Still incredibly inconvenient to break out in a sweat at any time for no outward reason :( Will stay tuned though. Thank you Barbie!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +2

      Sarah,
      You're attitude is the most common one: I'll do whatever it takes to avoid dealing with all this inconvenient discomfort.
      How old are you? I ask because if you're younger than 55, and you aren't a smoker, and you have no health risks, you can take some form of birth control until age 55, and that should do the trick. The dosages of hormones for birth control are higher than the dosages in hormone replacement for menopause. And the younger you are the more hormones you need to take care of your symptoms of menopause. When you turn 55, you can take the lower dose hormones for menopause and you should do fine. It's something to consider. There are birth control pills, patches, and vaginal rings.

      Thank you for your kind reply! I am 61 and I took Prempro (not Premarin--my error) for 5 years. No breast cancer in family, non smoker, no none health risks and also former ballet dancer and now ballet teacher so my bone density is very high for my age :).

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      If you've been on estrogen early in your menopause, there's no rule that says you have to stop them completely at some arbitrary age. It's a different stop for women who never started them early on.
      Maybe you should get some other opinions about your eligibility to continue them.

But after trying many Phytoestrogens and being told by terrified doctors they refused to give me bio-identical hormones I finally am taking them after a few years of tests by my GYN. He has been very kind. The herbal products really only help hot flashes which I never had so they are kind of worthless IMO at least for me. Dear Menopause Taylor, first time commenting; am binge watching all the videos in order ; ) Thank you a million times for doing this, I've practically cried with the logic of well, your logic! We live in a time with often a crucial lack of it. Have been seeing a naturo for 3 years (small town, no doctors dealing with hormones), but she speaks a different language, & I've learned a ton more in these videos than from her in 3 years combined. I do have one question: would not Premarin horse urine follow the same line of reasoning as cow milk. Humans shouldn't use milk from another animal, or after being weaned, for example. Or is it apples & oranges? Thank you!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +3

      I think it's great that you're thinking so critically. As for the question you posed, I think you could asses it in one of four ways:
      (1) If you prefer to have no animal products in your body at all, for whatever reason, there would be no difference between cow milk and horse urine. You would avoid them both.
      (2) If you have no opposition to ingesting animal products, you would see the two as equally acceptable.
      (3) If you make a distinction between a product intended for human consumption (milk) versus one that is to (urine), then you would argue that the milk is fine, but the horse urine isn't.
      (4) Some (vegans) might even take a fourth position and say that cow milk is unacceptable because were'e not supposed to be ingesting dairy after we're weaned, but that Premarin is not the actual urine, only the estrogen extracted from the urine.
      I've heard just about everything. I'm not judgmental,and I think there's validity in all three positions. Just remember: the only opinion that matters is your own.

    I've been in menopause for 7 years and I am suffering so badly. I lost half my hair last year. I'm taking some natural supplements as well as 200mg of prometruim(progesterone). I stoped Esrtadiol after 3 months because it said side effect "scalp hair loss" but it's still coming out so much! (Telogin Effluvium). I've been diagnosed. So now I do want to add Estrogen back in! I'm scared to what one I should use. I'm actually worse now with all symptoms than 7 years and all my blood levels are in normal range! Any advice would be amazing! I'm loving learning from you and I'm telling everyone about you!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +6

      Amy,
      You should still be eligible to restart estrogen, and I think it would help you a ton. Please talk with your gynecologist (not a GP, Family Practitioner, or Internist). You need an expert. You can choose what form you prefer (pills, patches, vaginal ring, cream, gel, etc.) You should get started as soon as you can because the option may not be available to you forever.
      There's a book you should read called "The Estrogen Window" by Mache Seibel, M.D. I think it would explain a lot.

    Thank you for your videos. Other than medication, could you please explain in more detail the phases and symptoms during each phase of menopause? And where they come from? For instance, I am at the start of the process and felt aching breasts. I know learnt that the fallen progesterone leads to more water in my body and thus in my breasts, hence the pain. So before talking about the possibilities of treatment, I'd love to hear more about "this might be your symptom during this phase and this might be why you are experiencing it". Thanks again and greetings from Germany!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      Hmmm. Have you watched these videos in order? Video 10 is "Phases of Menopause." Eventually I'l be giving you at least tow or three videos on each and every one of the 22 symptoms of menopause ... along with every single management option in all five categories (Diet & Lifestyle, Vitamins & Minerals, Botanicals & Herbs, Hormone Medications, Non-Hormonal Medications). But to understand all that, you have to have this foundation in these hormonal medications.
      Later, when you're watching a video on a particular symptoms, and I tell you that you can use estrogen to combat it, you'll understand that there are many different categories of estrogen. And you'll understand the differences between them. I won't have to go off on a tangent to teach you about these things that I'm teaching you now.
      I know it's slow. If you want it faster, you can get my book, which has all of this. Alternatively, beginning in September, I'll be giving seminars that will give you everything you need in just two six-hour days. And I'll be making a DVD of the seminar that you can buy if you don't want to fly all the way from Germany!
      P.S. I was born in Wiesbaden!

      You should have consultation with me to learn about all the options and all their pros and cons. That's the name of the game: realizing that EVERYTHING, absolutely EVERYTHING has both pros and cons. The key is to tailor all those pros and cost to YOU.
      I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
      2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I will give you a deadline for sending all materials, and will not accept anything after that date.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points out the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU, using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want in order to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got from the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
      I hope to meet you soon!

I was much stronger and healthier taking the bio-identical. But after starting Naltrexone for Hashimoto's I had started to spot. My natural path said to stop my bio-identical hormones. Because he believed the Naltrexone 'reset' thyroid and that my body no longer was attaching my thyroid, thus allow my body to produce hormones. Does any of this make sense? I'm not sure what to do? • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      Susan,
      It all depends on when you started taking the hormones. As it turns out, there's something called "the estrogen window," which I'll be covering later. In other words, if you began taking hormones at the very beginning of your menopause, you can probably take them for many years or maybe forever. If you didn't start them early on, but waited until you'd been menopausal for 5 - 10 years, you may not be able to take them at all or for very long. Of course, all of this is determined by your general health status.
      Every woman is different on this issue. You should definitely have a discussion with your doctor about what's best in your personal situation. Hopefully, your doctor won't have a "one-rule-applies-to-all-women" attitude. It's very individual.
      And the type of hormones you take matters, too. Herbal hormones are much weaker than bioidentical or synthetic pharmaceutical hormones. Keep watching the videos. We're about to cover something you'll find extremely interesting.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад

      Maca is a food that was used in the high altitudes of Peru. It was considered to be "famine food." It's high in nutritional value, containing essential amino acids and fatty acids. The dried root can be stored for years without deteriorating (thus its use during famine). And then they can be cooked to make a porridge known as "mazzamora." Peruvian folklore holds that mac enhances female fertility (to counter the reduction in fertility that occurs at high altitudes).
      There is no evidence that maca has any benefit in menopause. But there are no known toxic effects.

  • @amandaathanas4027
    @amandaathanas4027 5 лет назад +1

    But when combining natural ingredients in a lab often unnatural and toxic fillers and binders are used. That may be where synthetic HRT got its bad rap from, and that may remain a valid concern.

      "Allergic" is not the proper word. Nobody is "allergic" to the hormones their own body produce.

      Victoria,
      Your menopause was "surgical" in the sense that it occurred suddenly after chemotherapy. That means that it was more abrupt and your body didn't have the opportunity to ease into it. Because of that, you should continue your hormones as long as you can do so safely. It will make a big difference in your risk for osteoporosis, heart attack, and Alzheimer's disease. If you have no health issues making hormones risky for you, consider taking them for 10 years or more.There's an excellent book entitled, "The Estrogen Window" by Mache Seibel, M.D. It's fairly "medical" but intended for patients. If you read it, I think you'll understand the benefits of hormones in your situation.

    I'm serious, I've come down with Iatrophobia after being exposed to dangerously inadequate medical care here in the states and our "Obama Care" misconception. I want the"natural' that is like DOING NOTHING except what I enjoy to do, that kind of 'natural.' Is that possible??? :-)

      It is absolutely fine to do nothing or to do only what meets your definition of "natural." The only opinion that matters is your own. As you learn more, you'll re-evaluate as to whether that remains the best option for you. Remember, you know yourself better than anyone else does. And the only person you're with all the time is yourself. Just be honest with yourself and honor your wishes, and you'll be happy with your decisions.

      The name of the game with this education is that you get to manage YOUR menopause YOUR way. I do not push anything. I have no product. All I do is give you the facts and let you tailor them to yourself.

      If you’d like a more efficient delivery of this menopause education, you should do one of the following:
      • Read my book
      • Watch the webinars in order
      • Watch the DVD entitled Your Menopause Your Way
      They all give you the complete education without the fluff of the videos. You can get any of these from my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME.
      And if you want the fastest track, schedule a consultation with me, and you'll get the education along with tailoring of it specifically to YOU. You can schedule a consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME.
      These videos cover only one piece of information in each video. That’s intentional. If you only use these videos to get your education, it will be very complete, but it will take a looooooong time. My goal is to meet the needs of all women, regardless of their learning style, and regardless of their command of the English language. Many of my viewers speak English as a second, third, or fourth language. You may not care about them, but I do.
      I am the only person providing a complete and unbiased education on menopause. So, I’m trying to serve the needs of all women. I’m sorry I haven’t served yours well. But I think one of the other options listed above will.
