Just saw my new internal medicine doctor yesterday and she's not at all happy with my reasons for taking HRT. She told me to only take them for hot flashes. I like that you encourage people to listen to their body. I was on an Estradiol 0.05mg patch and 100mg micronized Progesterone for 4 months. I immediately noticed that I put on weight around my waist and my breasts became uncomfortable and much bigger. After about 3 months I began to get frequent headaches, some so bad that they would wake me up. So...I have come off the HRT and all the bloating, headaches etc went away after 1 week. I am going to manage my Menopause without the use of hormones I've decided. Nature has provided all we need.

I started taking HRT last November and after 3 months of Estradiol patch and Progesterone I'm finally feeling like a normal person. I never really suffered from hot flashes but had every other symptom of menopause. I felt really miserable all the time. Now I don't suffer from anxiety and I'm sleeping a lot better. Progesterone helps with sleep. I have to thank Dr. Taylor because if it were not finding her RUclips Channel (and reading her book) I would not be on HRT. My GYN was not forthcoming at all, I had to initiate the conversation. I agree that we are all taking the risk but for me for right now this is where I want to be.

@MenopauseTaylor I got in to see my OBGYN this week after my hormone blood results. The obgyn started me at estradiol-noreth-1 .5mg. I know that is not enough to help stop the risk for diseases but enough for symptom control (she said it helps 90% of women's symptoms). What do I do now? How do I insist on a higher dosage when she told me to wait 2-3 months for results? Your videos gave me the knowledge but that doesn't mean you can convince a physician how to prescribe if they are stuck in that mindset.

I just found this site, and it is very helpful! I'm 69, entered menopause at age 50; my Internist refused to give me HRT due to the risk of breast cancer---although my family has no such risk. I feel like not having taken the HRT was a major mistake, and I should have had a second opinion back then, but it seemed like everyone's mantra was "breast cancer" at the time. A scan last year showed scores of 0 (zero) plaques on any blood vessels except the left descending (which was around 125), which I've been working to reverse. (I successfully reversed small scores of 5, etc. on a few vessels many years ago). Anyway, I do intensive gym workouts every week and am in great shape, take supplements (e.g, K2, D3, etc.) for bone health, as osteoporosis was in my family history. Also, my mom had mild dementia (though not Alzheimer's), so that weighs on my thought process... However, I fear that everything I'm doing is not enough and that I have sadly missed the boat. I may schedule a consult; thank you for this information!

I work in breast cancer care and was terrified by fellow consultants who told me that hrt no matter what source increases risk, plus i have a mother who has had bilateral breast cancer. i desperately needed a radical hysterectomy. cervix, ovaries, tubes etc for awful endometriosis. My gynaecologist told me they could not do this at age 45yrs with my refusal to take HRT. She spent over an hour explaining how my breast clinicians were not informed correctly. That I NEEDED hrt as i was pre menopausal, my risk of not taking it could take me out lol long before cancer did! heart disease, osteoporosis, dementia! list goes on and on. She also explained my estrogen patch was a body recognised etradiol (not what my mum had 25yrs before) and in fact this type of estrogen "knocks" the bad sort out if anything. This dose is probably less but more consistent and measured than what my estrogen dominant disease was pumping erratically out pre hysterectomy. I was terrified that i only had 2 "bad choices". I am so grateful for my gynae and her patience with my dilemma and how terrified i was. I am soo grateful to you getting this information out there. life is a risk!!! but considering women 1 in 7 will get breast cancer with OR without HRT....we cant say this is the cause. My cancer is ER positive, PR positive, and HER2 negative. Breast cancer does not run in my family. I had to stop my HRT cold turkey and am now having hot flashes, anxiety, and not sleeping because of the night sweats. My oncologist is also saying I will have to be on an estrogen blocking medication for years, which has horrible side effects. Not everyone using HRT has a happy ending.

I was surfing Utube and ran across your video. I had a complete hysterectomy at age 48 and started HRT. A few years laterI switched to a compounded formula which I used until I reached the age where no one would prescribe it. I am now 80 years old and have suffered severe hot flashes since stopping HRT. The hot flashes are constant through day and night. Each hot flash is accompanied by a bladder urgency that sends me rushing to the bathroom where I have a fan by the toilet. I also have a fan at the foot of my bed with a remote. Sleep is a thing of the past for me. I could go on and on about the disruptions to my life caused by these hot flashes. I am very depressed and just want this to end. I never expected to be living my final chapter in such misery.
I have almost been on my knees before many doctors, begging for mercy but to no avail. I still have no solution but I do thank you for shedding some light on the topic. I hope this will help some women to prevent this problem in their senior years.

I had a radical hysterectomy the end of 8/23. I had been on HRT Pills since my late 50’s due to debilitating hot flashes, 20 + every day! and could not sleep, also had terrible indigestion. Was diagnosed with endometrial cancer 6/23, and was immediately taken off HRT upon diagnosis. Since the surgery, I have been feeling awful. So tired, not sleeping, hot flashes all-day and night, hair falling out, and dramatic muscle loss! ( was a competitive athlete my whole life, and a body builder) It's heartbreaking that my incredible physique is now just hanging skin and bones. Now I have very little strength or stamina and my muscles are gone! How can I convince my Doctors that I need something for these terrible symptoms?

I had to push my dr for hrt. After a radical hysterectomy I was given nothing to replace lost hormones. I had hot flashes but I was more concerned with the long term impact no ovaries would have on my bone health - I was watching my elderly mother fade away from a five foot six inch lady to a tiny little creature. She also (in her 80’s) had a number of bone breaks due to falls (arms and shoulders). She went into menopause at age 51, the same age I was when I had the hysterectomy. She died at age 91 but lived half her adult life with no hrt. I simply wasn’t prepared to do the same and had to fight my dr to give me something to prevent bones being compromised. She reluctantly put me on a tiny dose of estrogen but it came with warnings that I would be taken off it at 65, that I’d have to cope with hot flashes at that stage (not the point - it’s my bones and joints I want to help) and yes, the breast cancer warning. I don’t want to come off it ever - well not at least until 75 - because I simply can’t accept that it’s normal for women like my late mother to live half their adult life without hormones. In my opinion I meet the drs half way by continuing to exercise, not smoking, watching alcohol consumption and feel I should be respected for that and not treated as a high risk health case.

Bloating, bleeding breast tenderness and lack of energy, have been constant since starting HRT 3 months ago. 32 days ago, I began taking a much higher dose of Estradiol and Progesterone with the mindset, "More is better". That has come with a price of prolonged side effects. I have not been comfortable and if I would have approached my therapy by gradually increasing my estrogen, I may be singing a different song ... or maybe not!
Now that I have a better understanding of Progesterone and the idea of adjusting or tweaking it, I feel better equipped to talk to my provider when I go see her in a couple of weeks.
I am not dissuaded by my symptoms because even though I have not been feeling really great, I do feel better than I did before starting. I don't ever want to go back to feeling that way again ... EVER!!!
Just keep on keeping on. I'm in it to win it!!!

Menopause is THE most neglected topic on Planet Earth, by the healthcare industry, the disease care industry, doctors, and women themselves. There is no education on menopause in medical school. In a 4-year OB/GYN residency program, only 1% of the time is devoted to menopause.
I knew when I started this mission that I would be climbing the steepest hill ever. I picked the most unpopular topic on earth. I'll never have the millions of subscribers that all the hair and makeup channels have. I save lives, but, apparently, women don't value that as much as beauty!
If more women understood the value of this education, like you do, that would change. And that's my goal. I know I will do this for the rest of my life. Hopefully, it will make a difference, a positive one.

I can’t help but think though…that I’ve trusted nature all along from age 11 when I first got my period and was so scared about having it to my late 20s and 30 s and when I thought I would look young forever and I trusted nature all along the way especially when my husband and I decided to have children. These all came with some scary feelings and risks I am tossed now between trusting nature and letting menopause happen how it’s meant to or take matters into my own ( dr.s) hands…

Re: Progesterone: I have had an endometrial ablation, but he rule (according to my GYN) is "as long as you have a uterus, you have to take Progesterone". Only women who have had a hysterectomy can go without it ...

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 месяцев назад

Whether or not you need progestogen after an endometrial uterine ablation depends on how “complete” the ablation was.
A "complete" uterine ablation destroys every morsel of your inner uterine lining. In this case, you will never have any bleeding ever again, and you do not have to take progesterone.
An "incomplete" uterine ablation fails to destroy every morsel of your inner uterine lining. This is common with fibroids or anything that distorts your uterine cavity. In this case, regardless of whether or not you have bleeding afterward, you do have to take progesterone.
Any remaining endometrial lining is still at risk for endometrial uterine cancer.

Question: when you say something DOES cause uterine cancer, does that mean it's a definite 100% chance? Or do you mean to say it CAN cause uterine cancer? Same question about taking HRT before the aging process you said it PREVENTS heart attack - did you mean it REDUCES THE CHANCE of it being a risk? Language is so important to me and I want to make sure I'm hearing the right things and not taking definites in to account when weighing my risks when in actuality they aren't definite but increased or decreased chances.
    Thanks for all you do!

Nothing is ever 100%. I am very specific with my words, too.
If I say something "CAUSES" a disease, it means that it has passed all the tests of causation and is known to be able to actually CAUSE that disease without any other contributing factors.
If I say something PREVENTS a disease, it means that it counteracts either a causative agent or it decreases the effect of one or more risk factors.

I'm back in class after a few weeks of vacation and trying to catch up! I have paid attention the Menopause U and know the risks of taking and not taking. I don't have any risk factors to not take it. True, there is a history of stroke and heart problems, but the poor diet, smoking, drinking, and little exercise contributed greatly for the heart attacks and strokes my grandparents and mother had. The risks NOT meant never sleeping, hourly hot flashes (or more often under stress), irritable, moody, night sweats, and many more symptoms, well I would have begged my gyno surgeon for it! She saw I needed it. Aunt Flo and her She Shed were ripped out along with a suspicious mass that turned out to be a huge necrotic cyst. I was 50, so close enough. Cancer was found in my uterus. Something tells me the surgeon saw something, but wasn't sure, so recommended everything goes. My hot, young, senior resident was brilliant, caring, compassionate, and non-judgmental. I hope he was given the job of evicting Aunt Flo and tearing down her She Shed!

A lot of us are sharing your videos like mad in Facebook groups about menopause but women who aren’t familiar with you need to know why their doctors are so misinformed about HRT. I know you mention the WHI report in many of your videos and explain why it made the medical community do a complete 180 about HRT. My point was that one video totally about the WHI report and how it negatively effected our care would be useful to share with women who are being ignored or given wrong info by their medical professionals and show them why they need to advocate for themselves in this journey. Many women are believing their doctors who have been blindly following their medical peers since 2002.
