When I was 46 and still getting my period, I complained to my GYN that I wasn’t sleeping, was having night sweats, had a very short fuse (moody!), and had gained 30 lbs. She took blood and concluded, “You’re not in menopause”, and sent me away. Two months later I had the last period of my life and went into menopause. I’ve never felt so dismissed, so lonely, so desperate, so discouraged. I was not ok. Now 8 years later I have educated myself thanks to you, and I have fired my doctor and found a telehealth company who has prescribed HRT. And I told them what dosage I wanted to prevent the three big diseases of menopause. I’m so thankful for this education. By the way, I’m a RN. ❤

I want to Thank you so much for all the videos you make. I watch them every week. And yes I started at the beginning with your first one. Without you I would never have known the truth about Menopause and what my body was trying to tell me or the truth about HRT. My doctor never had a clue and said that HRT would not be safe and to be on the lowest does for the shortest time. I had such terrible symptoms for a couple of years that he would just ignore and said that’s what happens as you age. Then I found your channel!!! Luckily I had pre watched enough of your videos and had made notes to take with me for that big appointment to ask for HRT . That was over 2 years ago now and and within a few days of starting HRT was feeling better and with that knowledge am able to get the dosage increased when I feel my body telling me they are not quite high enough. You have improved my health, my quality of life and probably how long I live. So Thankyou from the bottom of my heart Menopause Taylor. From Michelle in New Zealand xx

Welcome aboard to "Menopause Taylor University." You'll find that if you start at the very first video (going by the number after each title), you'll understand absolutely everything. You'll be shocked at what you didn't know, and delighted that now you do know.
Each video builds on the last. It's just like school: You had to learn the alphabet before you could read. And nowadays, there are so many overwhelming misconceptions that women mistake as facts ... that you just don't know what you don't know.
I respond to all comments here on RUclips daily. So, I will answer all your questions ... but I'll also know if you aren't watching the videos in order. (I'm like your mother. I have eyes in the back of my head!)
And if you need me to help you tailor anything to your personal situation, you can schedule a one-on-one consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME any time. I do them all online. I LOVE all your knowledge, how you explain, the empowerment you bring and also the honor, respect and caring you show to all women. One of the reasons that I think women stop HRT could be explained by the complexity of genetics in the absorption and metabolization of estrogen.
I just got into HRT ( estrogen, progesterone and testosterone) gained weight before that and as they adjusted the doses I also was bloated , got a heavy feeling out or retaining water, my face and eyes looked rough and some edema. I could NOT RECOGNIZE my body. I adore many cool DRS who are posting very informative and challenging info out there out of their own experience with the medical system and their own menopause, however not many speak about Hrt and the genetic possibility of NEEDING ESTROGEN ( hot flashes, dry vagina, night sweats, etc many more stuff) BUT NOT braking it or processing it well. Now , I added broccoli sprouts ( because it will not lower my testosterone) and I feel super!!!!!

I am 57 & have committed to HRT this year after 2 trials of start/panic/stop over the past 5 years.
I am now comfortably adjusted to estrogen replacement after gradually increasing over several months.
So I have now found that I feel I need to try a little testosterone for labido, strength, & overall stamina(it’s like my get up & go got up & went & never came back! Lol)
Im starting a low dose combo HRT, estratest today.
Hoping for the best results! 😊🤞🏼🙏🏼
My question is contemplative in nature about our design as women in general.
Maybe you’ve answered in another video, or you don’t know, because maybe no one knows…but not sure.
As a minister in the Christian faith, I am wondering why women, seemingly by physical design, are not made to have the hormones we need to function properly throughout the entirety of our lives?
I get that we are designed to not need a reproductive level of hormones later in life because we don’t need to have babies that we may not live long enough to raise, but yet I also don’t believe we are designed to begin to physically progressively malfunction in order to die.
    I don’t know if I’m expressing this clearly…
But I am wondering what has gone wrong in our design that we would have to live so many years without the vitality that our hormones provide by losing our hormones?
Maybe my question is, do we scientifically know WHY our female bodies stop producing life giving hormones?
Do we know WHY we go through menopause?
What if I am a rare person of faith who believes we were not originally designed by our creator to go through menopause & that doing so is actually a malfunction rather than the norm that it has become accepted to be.
I’m a little late to party by seeking these answers now after I am post menopausal but I guess I didn’t know to ask these questions until I experienced & battled with this very abnormal feeling process.
So I’m wondering, can menopause be prevented if we are somehow proactive?
Other than surgical situations…are we doing something in our lifestyle to induce/cause menopause?
Or if that’s not it, is there something else in our bodies that was supposed to kick in after our reproductive years to compensate for the loss of reproductive hormones?
    Hope this makes sense.
Because now that I am past the process & having to replace my own hormones to feel normal & alive, I am not believing this is how it was supposed to be by original design.
I have felt like walking death at times from not having vital hormones & that seems like a malfunction not normal.
Thanks for what all you do share to support women in this grueling menopause experience!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 года назад +66

      Crystal,
Your question is a very good one for which there is a simple answer: We are outliving our ovaries.
First, you have to understand that there is nothing “natural” about menopause. Other animals do not have a menopause. The normal life cycle is (1) Birth, (2) Reproduction, & (3) Death. That’s it!
So, instead of living as menopausal women, we’re are all supposed to be dead! Mother Nature has a formula for how long each kind of animal lives. It's all about the heart rate. Every animal gets 1 billion heartbeats, and then it dies. That's why little tiny animals, like mice, with little tiny hearts that beat quickly, die in about 2 years. And that's why great big animals, like elephants, with great big hearts that beat very slowly, live for about 80 years.
Based on this formula, humans are supposed to die at about age 47 ... before we go through menopause.
The only reason humans aren't dying at age 47 is because of all our scientific and medical advances. So now humans are getting 2.1 billion beats. I call it your billion-beat bonus.
I don't know about you, but I think of a billion-beat bonus as bonus time.
The problem is that we outlive our ovaries and the hormones they produce. And that's what menopause is: loss of our female hormone estrogen.

I think the reason for menopause is because having children throughout old age would be really hard on us. I do not believe we are meant to suffer during our periods or menopause. I believe we suffer because our bodies are weak from poor food quality, high stress and lack of exercise, sunlight, sleep and maybe not enough joy.

Editing to add that I am saving this video. THANK YOU Dr Taylor for clarifying the purposes of using HRT - to prevent against those diseases that are related to estrogen deficiency, rather than focusing on rECommEndED hORmoNE leVEls. I've been watching and learning from your videos for four years now, but this is the first time I have put that specific two and two together. So the levels that matter are those relative to estrogen-deficient diseases, i.e. dexa scans measuring bone loss, etc and that should be the focus, not what my hormone panels might detect, correct? Pregnenolone has nothing whatsoever to do with menopause at any stage. It's a scam promoted mostly by alternative practitioners (who always sell the stuff). DHEA is s precursor to testosterone. Testosterone is Papa Bear's hormone. You are Mama Bear, and estrogen is your hormone. So why would you be focusing on any hormone other than your own. Get your estrogen right FIRST, before you go dabbling around with other hormones that are not critical for you. When you focus on the wrong hormones, you never get enough of the one that really matters.

❤ Love your content. 🙏🏻 from India. I have few questions. Would love to know your thoughts on it. 1. Does in fact all women's hormone levels drop to zero or does it vary woman to woman? 2. My previous question stems from the fact that I see a very high percentage of women who go through menopause with barely any symptoms which also pass after a few months and never come back. How are their bodies able to function so normally with zero estrogen? How can the difference be so extreme? 3. Has there been any research done on this, if so could you please share links. 4. What is the role of adrenal glands post menopause? 5. For someone struggling with primarily depression, irritability, insomnia, heat intolerance post menopause, to what extent will the right dose of HRT help, or would other medication be required for other symptoms?
In India, medical practitioners are zero help in this regard, so your response is very valuable.

Hi Dr. Taylor! I know you must be very busy so I appreciate your time if you are able to respond at all. Up until last year at 44 I was ovulating practically sane time every month and my hormonal basic blood tests were perfect. I had easy periods no cramps or PMS other than drastically swelling breasts and increased libido. I was super fit and super healthy with great sleeps and energy. But.. I came down with breast cancer that spread to 3 lymph nodes. Her2 and estrogen positive receptors. So now that I completed chemo and surgery, of course my period has stopped abs I have daily hot flashes. My oncologist wants to put me on an estrogen suppressant to reduce estrogen in my body as well as Herceptin and I’m advised not to take any supplements that will increase my estrogen since I’m at a high risk of the cancer returning since chemo didn’t kill all the active cancer cells in my lymph nodes so it’s safe to assume there may be small cancer cells spread in my body that could regrow into a stage 4 cancer in an organ or my bones. I don’t have the breast cancer gene and it’s not in my family but they want to stop most of my estrogen and keep me in menopause. Im freaking out about losing the healthy vitality looks and sex drive I just had pre chemo (everyone thought I was in my 30’s). I was no where near menopause until chemo. I fear excellerated aging now.. my eyes now look tired and saggy and I’m having hot flashes all day and night non stop, im more stiff after workouts and my hair is shedding lots (I saved all my hair by using cold caps during chemo). Of course I don’t want the cancer to return but I also wasn’t ready to become a tired old looking woman over night. Any input would be so appreciated. I’ve had all this forced upon me overnight when I thought I wouldn’t be hitting menopause until my late 50’s since my hormones were that of a 30yr old and my grandma even had my mom naturally at 44. I just feel so sad at the sudden loss of my youthfulness and there’s no help from my oncologists who are only focused on preventing a cancer relapse. That’s important but im also thinking of my quality of life for the next 55yrs… thank you for informing us and not sure if you can help my sitch. Im just feeling such loss..

I for one am definitely NOT a lab lover. Mine always come back normal and the dr says, “you’re fine” while charging me a fortune. I. Don’t. Like. Labs! I’ve told a doctor before, You’re an expert on the human body… I’m the expert on MY body. I know when something isn’t right.
I’ve quit going to doctors for help because they base EVERYTHING on labs. I think they might cling to them for protection from malpractice lawsuits or something. Instead of treating us each individually, we’re just sources of revenue passing by them on a conveyor belt.
When I was young I thought going to the doctor was like going to see the Oracle! LOL
Even when I hit menopause… I told my Obgyn all the symptoms AND my absence of menstruation when I’ve always been like clockwork. Early Menopause runs in my family. He said no way because I was too young, (43). I finally DISMISSED HIM and said, well I know what the list of menopause symptoms are and I know my body. As he was walking out of the room, he relented in an annoyed shoulder shrug and told his nurse to go ahead and order LABS to check my levels for menopause but it was unlikely. The nurse called a week later to apologize and verified my test numbers were off the charts and I was DEFINITELY menopausal. And that was an OBGYN!
Needless to say, I’m not looking forward to the battle to get HRT but based on the research Dr Barbie has presented, I’ve decided it’s worth the fight to at least try it out.
Thank you Dr Barbie for the information and thorough explanations! Without telling us what to do, you arm us with the info to make our own informed decisions. And knowledge is power. I finally found an Oracle!!!

I'm already on the highest dose of oestrogen patches prescribed by the NHS in the UK, Estradot 100s. I still have some symptoms but am I likely to be able to get a higher dose? Possibly not.
I've asked to try testosterone to see if that helps with fatigue, motivation and my other symptoms. I've read that if your oestrogen is low, testosterone will somehow convert into oestrogen. So wouldn't that boost my oestrogen levels if needed? (If that is what happens.)
So far, I don't have the testosterone prescription, that needs to be specified by the menopause clinic.
Looking forward to next week's video, I feel like it's going to be super important 💛 As a coeliac, I have concerns about my bone density especially, but everything matters. Brain, heart, and bones 😊xx

Do not try to use testosterone to do estrogen's job. It's really very simple: If your body has enough estrogen, you will have 0 symptoms of estrogen deficiency. Just because they make a "highest dosage" product does not mean you can't get creative in getting whatever dosage your body needs.
If you schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME, I will help you navigate this. I do them all via video.

I wish I knew all of this 15 years ago when I had a hysterectomy. I had physical symptoms for the first 7-8 years while on 1mg. estradiol, but I just lived with them because I didn't know any better. When the emotional/psychological symptoms hit hard and fast then I was at a loss. I have been to so many doctors, both conventional and integrative, trying to find out why I went from an outgoing, fun-loving adventurous woman to just a shell of her. I have tried about every antidepressant available and they either did nothing or made me feel worse. I would have gladly taken them if that meant I would feel like me again. By conventional doctors' testing, my levels were "normal", but integrative testing I was "estrogen dominant". I was very confused and frustrated. I loss confidence in the entire medical community.
I have followed your videos, but this one really helped me understand that my issue this entire time may be that I have not been given an adequate dose of estrogen.
Last week, after I had seen this video, I saw a new GYN and gave her a quick history and she immediately said that it sounds like I have been underdosed in estrogen. I didn't have to bring it up and prepare myself for a battle! She didn't do any labs, but instead raised my 2 mg oral estradiol to 2.5 mg. After only 1 week, I can already feel a small improvement. The anxiety is getting bettering! Since I had seen this video, all the scary stuff previous doctors told me about how I need to lower my dose because of my age (now 58) didn't make me question that an increase would be dangerous.
I am truly excited that I will feel better and better over the next several weeks as I get stable on a higher dose. We re-evaluate in 3 months to see how things are going. I am also on thyroid, so I have to watch that too.
Through this whole ordeal, I was diagnosed with ADHD because of lack of concentration, racing thoughts, overwhelmef, lack of staying on task, etc. These were never issues prior to losing my ovaries. The stimulants keep my feet on the ground, but I don't feel well on them. After getting stable on an adequate amount of estrogen, my next goal is to be off the stimulants.
You are greatly helping me to get back the life I was meant to live. I do believe there are great days ahead! Thank you!❤

I quit my job as a paralegal and became a recluse. The antidepressants prescribed to me did nothing to help, but within days of starting the Combipatch, I immediately started to feel like myself again. About 80% of the symptoms are completely gone and I have vowed to continue this treatment until my dying days. If I have to fly to a foreign country to get a doctor to treat me I will. Would it make sense, (in a perfect world), to establish an individual baseline range for estradiol during a woman’s pre-menopausal years, in order to establish a range unique to her that is known to protect her bones, heart, brain, etc? I assume her lower estradiol levels, those during the first 10 or so days of her cycle would be the ones to establish. I think this could be valuable to help prevent the diseases that have no symptoms until it’s too late.
HRT then could be tailored to get and keep a woman in a range that worked well for her in her pre-menopausal years.
It would also be more economical and time saving than having to do multiple DEXA scans or heart function tests to help determine an estradiol level that is sufficient.

@@jenniferannfox2316 The idea is to get an estradiol range, not a specific level. (See my post above). And the individual range could get established by checking estradiol levels during the days in a woman’s cycle when it is typically lowest for a few days - approximately on days 1-10 of each cycle, given a woman still has regular, stable cycles and is pre-menopausal. The assumption being, that her individual lowest levels (forming a range) would be sufficient for her to protect against osteoporosis, heart disease and other conditions where estrogen deficiency does not result in obvious symptoms.

Good day Dr Taylor! Present and attentive to today's lesson!
LOL when I woke up from surgery I was on that path to zero hormones! Rest assures 10 weeks later my surgeon gave me the magical elixir to save the day-- 0.06% estradiol gel! Two pumps and I'm good. Er, well, I think I might need more. I still have some of the minor symptoms. I'll discuss it with my gyno at my next screening test.
ANY doctor that says it's where they want it to be best be told that they are not the patient and the actual patient needs more hormones! Ditch that doc!

Any doctor who treats the lab instead of treating you is never going to listen to you.

Thank you for all the excellent information. I always felt a little bad, like I was doing something wrong, that I didn't have regular labs taken to check to see if my hormone level are adequate. I do have a few menopause symptoms on the dose of compounded bhrt that I take now of joint pain, meno fog, belly bloat and sometimes breakthrough bleeding. For some reason the last 3 months I get some cramps and start spotting when my daughters have their periods. Their periods are synced even though they don't live together and one of the daughters just started her period 3 months ago after she had a baby and that's when my fun started with hers. I let my provider know and she changed my prescriptions but after this last series I am in the process of getting estogel that is fda approved and possibly changing over to bhrt progesterone from the pharmacy as well. The provider mentioned .5 mg of estrogel but I requested 1 mg of estogel based on your information in the book and last video and either 100 or 200 mg of progesterone whatever they thought would keep me from break through bleeding. This is still confusing to me but I am honestly trying and will keep on watching your videos for any information that I can gather for my future and helping my girls! Thanks again, you are doing wonderful work and I really appreciate you!!

I have some spotting also on the 200 mg micronized progesterone but just my first month on 1mg estradiol Like when I had hormones , mild cramping, bloating, vaginal discharge, mild spotting, think my body is adjusting to having hormones so I'll wait and see if I adjust excited to feel better once past this hump

    Dear dr Taylor:
funny one of these tests should be called "the Dutch test". I am Dutch, and I have so far not been able to find a single doctor over here that uses this test. As a matter of fact, I have not found a 'non-alternative' MD that uses hormone level tests at all, for reasons you just mentioned.
Unfortunately, most of them will not only refrain from testing, but will not prescribe HRT either...
As always, thank you for the info!

Love your lab paper visual, Dr. Barbie. Having had both blood/urine tests for hormone levels, which led to compounded bioidentical hormones that made me feel worse and caused regular post/menopausal breakthrough bleeding, I know you are spot on. Switched drs and now on FDA-approved estradiol patch and daily prometrium pill. Hoping to switch prometrium to another form due to some minimal side effects. Is patch form (in combo with estradiol) better option than pill? I know from your recent video that IUD is likely the best option. Thank you for keeping us “menomamas” well-informed!
