This is such a great video. I agree that pharmaceuticals HRT should be preferred over compounded (bioidentical) but in my experience, the only reason women turn to the compounded stuff is because they simply cannot get pharmaceutical prescribed to them. Doctors just won't give it out unless you have some type of severe symptom. I've asked a few ob/gyn about since since I've moved several times in the past few years I've had different doctors. They all said the same. No prescription unless there is an issue other than the "typical" menopause symptoms. They don't care if I can't sleep or get hot flashes. They were fast to refer me to anti depressants though!

My doctor wouldn’t prescribe it to me until I was 55. She put me on birth control pills instead. She said you can still get pregnant on hrt and it would be a high risk pregnancy.

Dear dr Taylor, as always, I am so thankful for you video. So thanks!
I must say I am a tad confused at the moment. In the past, you have been featured on Dominique Sachse's channel. She seemed to take your professional opinion very seriously and pointed many of us towards your channel. But only two weeks ago, she released a video on her channel with dr Susan in which she is getting... bioidentical hormone replacement (in this case testosteron, which you just said women hardly ever need). And she is getting it in the form of a pellet that is injected into her skin ....
So that's a bad idea for pretty much all of us for the reasons you just mentioned in this video, but it's advocated as a good idea by Dominique and dr Susan?
Please, please understand, I do not mean to be unfriendly or overly critical to anyone here, I am just truly confused. Maybe I misunderstood the message and dr Susan is actually promoting the same thing as you? But having re-watched both videos that really doesn't seem to be the case, and now I am at a loss. Whom to trust? Is anyone else as confused as I am?

So how do you get them to give you (if you’re post menopausal) the estradiol gel or the estradiol patch there are different strengths 0.375 or 0.05 that are straight estradiol? do they test you for which one you should take? My doctor seems to really push the bio identical cream and the pellets and neither one of them are 100% estradiol which is what we need if we are post menopausal. No wonder I feel the way I do. I used to take Premarin in pill form and progesterone but I wanted to get off all of that but I honestly never had a problem with them it’s just that now I’m 70 years old and I don’t want to keep taking that pill, but this is definitely not meeting my needs. and you know where I notice it? In my bones and I’ve only been on it three months I never had issues with my bones before and I couldn’t figure out why are my bones hurting like this they’ve never hurt me before feeling so stiff. I had been on Premarin and progesterone since I was 48 years old. Now on thecream I feel very different still have hot flashes here and there. Have B O which I never had in my entire life! I definitely feel different on this cream now I understand why. The first prescription he gave me at the compounding pharmacy they did something wrong with the dosage anyway he was super upset but I used it until I got the new one but there was a big difference from the second one to the first one yet it was the same prescription it was so weird. I have an appointment in October he thought I might like to try the pellets but I kept thinking what if you have a bad Reaction it’s not like they can just take it out but he said oh well she’ll go over all that with you.🙄. It’s frustrating! I am learning so much. Thank you!

As usual, present and ready to learn! Love it when your hair is down. Your tops so cute!
I went into my surgery follow up knowing exactly what I wanted in estrogen replacement. I've read about BHRT and the downside of the pellet from another menopause expert who wrote a book as well. By the way, both your book and hers were bloody brilliant and had detailed info to help women. She strongly recommended women run away when suggested a compounding pharmacy BHRT and the pellet as HRT form.
I'll stick to the 0.06% gel, but a warning to pet owners, wash your hands well and apply it to spots where your pets or loved ones won't touch for at least 2 hours! The reason I found out was my kitten went into heat far, far too early and it was from my estrogen gel I put on my arms and pick her up within a window where her fur would get minute amounts on it and she'd lick it off her fur!

I’m on Biest myself, and I was hoping to change to estradiol (ditto all the hormones I’m on - switch to the FDA-approved versions), but my usually good insurance does not cover the FDA-approved versions, and the out-of-pocket costs are much more than I currently pay for my compounds.

  • @charlottebrady3800
    @charlottebrady3800 Год назад +4

Hi, yes, I’m using compounded. I first tried the synthetic Vivelle patch. I started on low dose. Numbers are different on the synthetics so I’ll say when I got to around the equivalent of 0.75 mg on the synthetic I ended up with Candida, a side effect of the synthetic patch. I switched to compounded and have just increased to 0.75, a little higher than the minimal daily dose of 0.5 mg.
The synthetic (not natural ingredients) is bioavailable and the compounded (mostly natural ingredients) is also bioavailable.
    .
I used compounded for awhile in 2002, never knew what I know now.
True, the FDA isn’t involved with compounded, but I didn’t have a problem with it. Dr. Taylor says start with 0.5 mg on the compounded. That’s the minimal daily dose. Many women need more, start with 0.5 and see if it relieves the symptoms of menopause. Use it x 2 mos before increasing
Also, the drs who agree to compounding want to put estrone or estriol in with your estradiol. You don’t need estrone. It makes you fat. Estriol is for the fetus. You want 100% estradiol. That’s the one that keeps you young. (The synthetic patch is 100% estradiol) You have to teach the dr. Have him start you at 0.5 mg, not lower. You’ll spend mos getting to your perfect dose. Better to start high and go low. Oh, and compounded can cause Candida too at certain doses. So far so good for me.
(All this info came from Dr. Taylor’s video. She’s a good teacher. Good luck!)

I found an ObGyn here (Canada) who took it upon himself 12 years ago to start learning more about HRT and he provides a lot of the same information that I've been so fortunate to find here. My GP and my regular Gyn only want to give antidepressants or the very minimum 0.5mg estrogen and for no more than 5 years. So finding this other ObGyn - that I have to pay for out of pocket - was a blessing. However, he strongly recommends Bi-est compounded cream. I have a follow up consult with him tomorrow actually and am going to ask for a pharmaceutical form of estrogen. Wish me luck!! It really shouldn't be this hard to get proper care.

I really appreciate the time you took to make this video, but assuming that the Pharmaceutical industry and the FDA are ethical in their practices, is not correct. I worked in these industries and unfortunately, saying that they are “regulated,” is really saying that “regulated” to continue educating the masses on not seeking alternatives, that may work for them. No one speaks of the volumes of people that are injured by “regulated” products.

    • @MenopauseTaylor

"Regulated" is not the same thing as "ethical," "moral," or "perfect." It just means that there are at least standards that are in place. This is in contrast to "unregulated," which means there are no standards.

Advertisers say whatever is necessary to get you to buy the product, period.
I tell you the whole truth and the whole story, and leave all the decisions up to you. I gain nothing by what you choose to use.

Compounded creams are so much cheaper but from what I'm hearing from Menopause Taylor is that it's not sufficient...jeez!! No, oral estrogen was great for me. I took it in a birth control pill for many years....Ethinyl Estradiol .02 mgs. Godsend! Doc took me off when I turned 50...then proceeded to OD me on pellets...I haven't been the same since. I can't find any estrogen I tolerate except the oral Ethinyl and now I doubt he would give it to me even tho he told me it was safe and could take it forever. What am I to believe!!?? AT this point I just want my life back...quality not quantity. When he took me off the birth control it also lowered the levels of 2 of my medications so that really messed me up as well. Second: So glad you cleared up the info regarding testosterone pellets. I was watching another popular RUclipsr have a pellet inserted, and raving about the results. Now, armed with your info, I realize it may not be the safest option. Is pharmaceutical testosterone available anywhere in the world? Thanks for this wonderful education.

Your 3.2 mg estradiol hemihydrate patch falls short of the minimal necessary dosage. And you cannot know if you even need testosterone (Papa Bear's hormone) until you get your estrogen (Mama Bear's hormone) dosage correct. Pharmaceutical testosterone do exist ... but they are made for men in dosages that are 10 times what a woman needs or wants. Some countries are starting to market the first testosterone products for women.

We had such a great rapport, he took me on as a patient afterwards. He is a courageous and lovely person, and also unfailingly honest. I had regular cycles for 2 years post surgery. Then, when it came time to start thinking about hrt, he just wanted to give me the usual combos of estrogen/ progesterone -- patches and such-- which is not the route I wanted to go. He admitted that he did not have the updated education to feel comfortable with anything other than those types of options. I think his passion is surgery for now and he is good at it. He said thta down the line he would get continuing ed in menopause. Anyway, I adore him and didn't want to lose him as a doctor. He said it was fine with him if I consulted an outside doc for the hrt. So I just went online googling and reading ratings for doctors. When I found this new physician, I called the office and vetted the doctor making inquiries. I forgot what I asked, but probably along the lines of: is he open to different hrt options? Is menopause a focus for him? The office staff I spoke with was so friendly and receptive to my questions. She said if nothing else, just come in and get a consult. I did and liked this doc-- who is another lovely and gallant gentleman-- immediately. I feel quite blessed with my women's health care actually. @MenopauseTaylor  10 месяцев назад +3

Pellets consist of bioidentical testosterone & estrogen. They contain a lot of testosterone and very little estrogen. They are promoted and inserted mostly by alternative providers. The hormones are compounded, which means they are not tested or regulated by the FDA.
The good thing about pellets is that they are long-term, lasting 4 - 6 months. That's good if you love them.
The bad thing about pellets is that they are long-term, lasting 4 - 6 months. That's bad if you hate them.
The testosterone is the component that most women hate. Testosterone is the male hormone. It causes acne, whiskers, male-pattern balding, weight gain, and aggression.
These pellets DO NOT prevent any of the diseases due to estrogen deficiency (heart attack, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer’s Disease).
If your only goals are energy and sex drive, then pellets will accomplish your goal. If you have any other goals, pellets will fall short.

I don’t know how it’s possible but it seems the dr doesn’t know that compounded estradiol is available by itself for 20-30 years now. You don’t have to use biest or triest but she includes these two on her chart as if those are your only choices.
I wrote her an email about this very subject and her staff returned it, told me to make appt. This is the only way I can get a note to her.
She says no FDA regulation. True. Well, I use compounded estradiol from wellness pharmacy in AL, 0.5 mg/d and feel great after suffering from hot flashes and being told to exercise since menopause. I walked 22,000 miles since the WHI in 2002 that turned our estrogen option upside down and created a huuuuge business for heart attacks, Alzheimer’s and osteoporosis. Dr made a video on that.
Compounded hormones have always been demonized while synthetic meds are made with a petroleum base. Look at the bio weapon millions were vaxxed with. Sorry, I don’t trust big pharma.
Wellness pharmacy sends a 3 page pt advisory with each refill and it does include side effects. Call and ask. 800-227-2627. (No I’m not affiliated, just a customer defending compounded hormones)
Dr Taylor studied allopathic medicine and that’s her choice. I don't agree with her on this one aspect but to her credit I have learned more from her just watching her videos than from all my previous drs who taught me nothing. She’s right, if you listen and watch you’ll become an expert and teach your dr. I did and I got what I need. I’d still be losing bone. Praise God and Dr. Taylor.

I feel like this needs to be addressed wherever women’s hormones are being addressed. The method of taking them…not just the type to take, REALLY matters. I'm glad I found this video. I'm doing my homework on compounded identical hrt. The doctor prescribed the compounded Bi-est...Im not sure... Bur when I spoke with the pharmacist at the compounding pharmacy they said that the 20% estradiol would be the same as if I got it from a regular pharmacy. I asked them many questions about the rx. I will be having another conversation with my doctor before I take anything. The FDA approved hrt is made from synthetics. The compounded hrt is made from yams. I wouldn't do soy because its usually GMO. I was told that yam is the closest to human hormones than the synthetic hormones made for hrt.

    She only believes in Compound
She also only believes in low dose to help with hot flashes
She said she was trained by another doctor who is a expert in HRT replacement
    I didn’t take it
I asked for estradiol in a high dose
    Cream
She said she only would Prescribe
    Compound
    I still haven’t gotten help
I need to get my heart checked first

I’ve tried the pharmaceutical route for HRT and had so many adverse effects. Here in Canada I can only get 100 mg minimum dose for progesterone replacement (because I still have my uterus) and this gave me horrible side effects. There were no lower doses, other than through compounding through my gynaecologist and a reputable compounded pharmacy.

    • @annief.9256
      @annief.9256 2 года назад +2

I take the 100mg the micronized progesterone tablets intravaginally. I read that if you take them via that route, you will not get side effects. I got an applicator and clean it off with an alcohol pad after each use (I worried soap would leave residue that could affect the drug, so I asked the pharmacist) I've been taking them them this way since the end of October [right before bed] and have had zero side effects so far. Now the capsules do have some kind of a liquid suspension. But I have found that with the applicator I insert them far enough in and I hit the loo first thing in the morning-- the tiniest bit of liquid is discharged, and then it isn't messy after that. Also the generic I use (Virtus-- maybe they have it in Canada) is a pale peach color so there is no staining of the undies. I learned all generics are not created equal for this purpose. What I mean by that is the first generic I inserted this way literally fell out of my body. It was concerning to me, so I called the pharmacy. Strangely the pharmacy had received a sheet that very week and the particular generic I started with had been downgraded (apparently, there's a certain standard the generics have to meet.) The pharmacist told me if f I was taking it orally, it wouldn't make a difference. However, since I was doing it vaginal route she switched me to a different generic. To be clear I am not telling you that you should do this or that it will work for you in the same way. I am just sharing my personal experience with being on micronized progesterone for a very short time. I also cannot predict what will happen for me in the future, or if it will contiue to work for me. But you could do your own research on it and speak with your gyn and pharmacist.

I also do what is called a "continous intermittent regime" where I take the progesterone 3 days on and then 3 days off (I don't take them) continuosly--all month. It amounts to about 15 days a month I am taking them rather than everyday. You really should watch Dr. Taylor's videos on progesterone.

    • @annief.9256
      @annief.9256 2 года назад

If you don't take it orally, you won't get symptoms. Also the non oral route reduces the amount of progesterone that goes into your system. You only really need it in your uterus.

I got base labs of my hormone levels before starting and my doctor will be monitoring my levels going forward. If my Estradiol level increases to the optimal range on my next lab report, isn’t that what really matters to show you’re getting a sufficient amount for disease prevention?

I have to disagree about pellets. They do not always have testosterone. You can get testosterone pellets if you like. But estrogen pellets are estradiol only. I’ve been on pellets for years. And they’ve been around since the 1960’s. I love the way they make me feel. I am 64 years old and my bone density is excellent. I am energetic and sleep great. Since i have a uterus, I am prescribed compounded progesterone cream. I still get a pap smear and the progesterone keeps my uterine lining in check. My dr told me that the WHO study proved that progestin given with estrogen increases your risk of breast cancer. Natural progesterone does not. And you don’t have all the side effects with natural progesterone. I watch your videos and appreciate your perspective, however my experience with pellets have been wonderful.
