l've been on HRT patches since perimenopause at age of about 48-49. I'm now 80 and have never stopped using HRT estradiol patches and progesterone tablets. So that's about 30 years. Some doctors have tried to talk me out of it. I changed doctors. I have no osteoporosis. My bones are as they were when I was forty. I can think clearly and still do website building, music production, book editing and so on. I can run and walk for miles. My hair is thick and healthy and hasn't thinned like that of other women my age and younger. I am on no other medication. There are many other benefits. I will never go off HRT as long as I live. People think I'm only 60. It's amazing. Don't let anyone talk you out of it... unless you have extenuating health issues.
I am 72 years old and when Menopause hits you will be in shock as to how it effects you. The effects on me were life changing. I ran to the Doctor for answers but some told me do not take HRT because it was not good so I went to a female Doctor and told her how I was struggling so she put me on HRT. It seems overnight I was back to myself. I have been on HRT for18 years and do not intend to stop any time soon! It is about the quality of your life!
HRT is a life saver! My gyne said the research was interpreted wrong! So the medical community was against ALL HRT so women suffered. Screw that! Put me on HRT❤️☺️ and I have been on it for 1 year but I may need something in addition because I have getting hotflashes again.
Hi, I'm a guy but my wife is going through this same thing right now and she is suffering so much I have decided to educate myself and try to help. We are starting to use a low dose patch with monitoring to see what we should do next while we learn as much as we can in the mean time. Thank you so much for sharing this "taboo" information you are helping so many people. I am an aerospace engineer and I make things on my own sometimes and this issue makes women so uncomfortable that I have decided to design a small handheld air conditioner for women with hot flashes. I am not trying to advertise this thing here an it is not available or even built yet but it will be! I'm gonna do all I can just like you are to bring some relief to this miserable problem. Thank you again, keep up the good work.
Engineer here too. Just about finished my research. Check out Felice Gersh MD in Irvine, CA. She is about the only one properly cycling the hormones. With hormones you want bioidentical, topical, in physiologic doses (low dose doesn't get rid of inflammation or help with repair of brain, bones and heart). Mimic your wife's original menstrual cycle. Start estrogen at the new 🌚 moon if she normally ovulated on the full 🌝 moon (most women). Or start estrogen on the full moon if she normally ovulated on the new 🌚 moon (wise women, doctors and healers of the tribe). You give estrogen for 2 weeks and then progesterone for 2 weeks to get the full benefit of each. Otherwise it's like riding the brakes (progesterone) and the gas (estrogen) at the same time and you can cancel out some of the good effects of both. Also if adding in testosterone, can only get bioidentical topical compounded for women. Add it in around the peak in estrogen, around ovulation. And do saliva testing to get actual free hormone levels available to the body to repair heart, bones and neurons in the brain, not what's bound up in the blood.
Angie, I am so proud of you! Your fund of knowledge is just so impressive, and I am just so honored to have helped you arm yourself with everything you need to make the rest of your life the best of your life. I look forward to helping your viewers.
@@careaboutnature Well, you make me very happy. My goal is to make sure you are armed with all the knowledge you need to manage your menopause your way. I love helping you.
Menopause Taylor I am in UK have been armed with so much knowledge ever since coming across your channel ...so many women afraid of estrogen..I point everyone to you as there’s nobody out there presenting the facts like you !...thankyou so much :)
@@MenopauseTaylor I have been a subscriber and I love you Dr. Beautiful!!! i have learned so much too. I can't wait for my one on one with you. God bless always.
I was terrified of HRT as well..but then I watched Menopause Taylor and started taking Estradiol..within 2 DAYS my joints stopped aching and my sleep improved!!. I had a hysterectomy in 2017 due to heavy, heavy bleeding but asked the doctor to leave my ovaries so as not to go into overnight menopause. But then my ovaries started failing simply because I was entering menopause..I'm 50. Watch Menopause Barbie ladies,please..she is a God send.Angie, you are as well!! You're my first youtuber ..got me with your fraxel laser experience.Thank you!!
I'm 35 and watching all of this! :) Better to be safe and prepared when it eventually happens than sorry and frightened! Thank you so much for all the info! :)
Same here! Though I'm at 42. But yes, I'm here watching and educating myself, and have subscribed to Menopause Taylor's channel as well, and will move on to watch her videos soon. My goal is to be well informed and prepared when the time comes!
Thank you Angie for being so helpful & honest on the HRT thing . I had a full hysterectomy when I was 52. Before that I was in the stages of menopause, severe hot flashes, not sleeping hardly at all , brain fog, really weird bad moods, I’m sure due to lack of sleep. I was put on the same patch as you, having them constantly changed up & down. Long story short , I started bleeding , had ultra sound done and biopsy it showed beginning stage cancer cells in the uterus. So it was highly suggested to have the surgery & change My HRT. After the surgery, I was put the estrogen .050 only. I found to be not enough . Had it increased to . 75 & then 1.0 and what a difference ! The Gyn said I was only to use this patch until I’m 55, then get off it. Fast forward 8 yrs and I’m still on the patch. I have since switched gyns because of the fights I had regarding the use of estrogen. Her belief was “ take the anti depressant” it will help you ween off of the estrogen . Well let me tell you trying to attempt that was like hitting a brick wall at 60 mph. I crashed soooo bad. I no longer felt like human. I was so out of sorts, it was dangerous for me to even drive a car. I then took matters into my own hands and contacted a gyn I knew from years ago. I went to see her & told her my situation. She explained the whole study on HRT’s etc, and how other studies contradict each other. She said no two women are the same when it comes to menopause! She immediately put me back on the estrogen patch & within 2 wks I was back to feeling like me again. (My poor husband, he was really scared ) . So I agree, I will be on the patch until the end. When I tell my friends this is my plan , they are like Omgosh you are going to get cancer ... etc etc ... To my understanding the studies on HRTs are not what they were 10-15 yrs ago. And are being updated all the time. I feel Estrogen keeps me younger looking, energized & definitely sane. Thanks for being so informative !
I just had breast cancer removed and went through radiation due to HRT'S. I really wish I could take it but I am scared. By only real complaint is my skin and brain fog.
Thank you Angie for being so candid. Candid conversations with informed doctors are so important. Unfortunately many are not informed and more concerned about standard protocols and malpractice risks. A hormone specialist has been so important for me and my wellbeing. Hormone balance is so much more important than just estrogen. Women are hormonally complex and a specialist in this area can be life changing.
@@marjoriemurray4381 Or like my doc that laughed in my face when I was first symptomatic six years ago. I told him I had haemorraged for ten days solid - couldn't lift a cup or cough or my trousers were completely soaked to the ankles - (2 weeks after my previous period) and was changing my bed 3 times a night. AND HE LAUGHED AT ME!! Still not given any advice or offered any HRT six years later. I put up with that for 5 years (incredulously) and just had enough last year. I need HRT!! I need a specialist. No hope of seeing one until this pandemic is over though.
@@kettymanno7256 I would suggest doing a search for bio identical hormone groups in your area. They are generally found within health groups for women, although mine also addresses men’s hormone health. Wishing you luck
I though I would throw in my two cents...I am well past menopause...twenty years in fact. I used HRT for years that I was going through the process...felt wonderful...no side effects...have all my teeth and my bones allow me to dance and walk. I thank goodness that there was and is something for the relief so I could live my life as I always have. Your video is perfect and so is the title.
@@minaguevarra9387 I took HRT for about 8 years or so. I honestly don’t remember. I didn’t want to stop but my doctor said enough. 😏 I felt wonderful after, too.
@@carola3046 thanks for your reply! After stopping hrt , did the symptoms of menopause come back again? They say that if you stop hrt , the symptoms for menopause will occur again
Omg!!! Thank you so much for this educational and awesome video. I’m 48 years old Latina woman in post menopause taking HRT. You explained to the T all the symptoms I was having. The night sweats, hot flashes and especially the brain fog!!! I thought I was losing my mind. But thank goodness my doctor put me on the combipatch which is both estrogen & progesterone and I’m feeling much better. Giving it some time to see if any side effects but so far none. I will make sure to give you an update. Luv ur channel thank you for all you do. I do appreciate you. God bless
I've been watching Dr.Taylor with your recommendation and can't thank you enough!! There's a good resource for finding a menopause specialist on NAMS (North American menopausal society). It gives you contact info for specialists near you. I'm in my early 40's and feel grateful to be learning this early enough to be informed. It's so important that you're giving a voice to menopause, xo
I second that! I changed from my regular OB-GYN to a menopause specialist 3 years ago. She's 50 miles from my home but by far worth my time and trouble.
@@coffeebeforemascara Me TOO my dr is virtual and 1/2 the cost of this dr. I don't have a pellet nor oral hormones and I feel awesome (and look awesome!:))
well done! I am 56 and knowledge about menopause is everything! I'm so sick of doctors immediately offering antidepressants for menopause - that is exactly what happened to me
Angie you are an angel to do this. I'm a registered nurse who went through menopause about 13 years ago. This is when all of the docs still insisted estrogen was awful and we should just suffer through it. I turned 65 today and had my annual physical. I was height measured for the first time in 3 years and I HAD LOST 3 inches!!! I am so angry that I didn't trust myself and insist on HRT. Now my doc says it's too late for it to benefit me. I am booking a consult with Dr. Taylor immediately. I may not be able to recover my height but I can prevent any further damage. Bless you for your kind generosity of spirit to share such essential information. Ladies, please pay attention, save your heart, save your height!!!!
Call my dr!!! you are so right! I see her virtually, and she uses my dr's for blood work etc. she has me on plant based bio-indentical (NO pellets, no oral!) and I have NO bone loss after menopausing at 42 with cervical ca. Im now 54 and feel 27 and look...hmmm 32? BUT I feel fantastic, sleep like a baby, no pain, great sustained energy...holy heck so much more. Libido, mmmhumm!
@@juliadixon4810 in Texas - and yes I do phone consults with her. Google Tyler Texas naturopathic women's doctor - she will come up. (I don't feel comfortable putting her name on the internet without her permission:))
Hi Angie, I went to my doctor obgyn 6 months ago because of hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia. She agreed to give me a compounding cream and said “ I will give you the lowest dose possible for a short amount of time” I asked her about protection from the 3 diseases and she said replacing estrogen has been shown to cause heart attacks. I listened and took the cream which wasn’t covered by insurance $50 a month but I was desperate for some relief as leaving the office I said to myself, I won’t be coming back to see her. I had watched Menopause Taylor’s videos but knew I need a refresher. Watched her videos again, found a new doctor and this time I took in a copy of the chart that Menopause Taylor has which shows the minimum amount of estrogen needed to protect from the 3 diseases and I asked the doctor “ Do you agree with this and are you willing to prescribe it to me , because this is what I want, I want to start with the minimum amount for protection from the 3 diseases and if needed we can go up” I found a good one because she is willing and agrees . So I am starting a patch and progesterone pill at bedtime. Covered by insurance. To anyone reading this, please watch Menopause Taylor’s video series they give you a full education on this very important topic, and don’t be afraid to checkout different doctors until you find one that considers what’s important to you.
Thank you so much Angie for sharing your personal menopause journey and for introducing us to Dr Taylor and her RUclips channel. My mother had breast cancer and I was warned off HRT for that reason and I was scared by the headlines following the WHI study. Since researching more and watching Dr Taylor's videos I now realise that HRT is not necessarily harmful to those of us with this family history. I wish I had been better informed at 46 - I have missed so many years of what could have been beneficial treatment.
This is such good information and I wish more women would know about this and be informed. I too went through many different trials of menopause solutions and thought that estrogen was evil. But then I found Dr Barbie and got educated and I am on the pellet and it is working great for me. I had a bone density test done in my 50's and I too have osteopenia. Waiting to get a bone density until you are 65 is too late! why even get one! It's the insurance companies that set that time frame up. But we have to be our own advocate for our health and be educated on it. Thank you for putting this out there.
Keep talking about this! I just started HRT because of you! I'm so very thankful that you are talking about this. It's amazing to me that no doctor brings this up. When I told my doctor about all of my concerns she just said, yup your going through menapause. Nothing more! Nada! I then took it upon myself to schedule an appointment with an OBGYN and was armed and ready per your video and Dr. Taylor's. Thank you, than you, thank you! I truly believe you have saved my health in the future. 🙏❤️
Same here. My Obgyn doesn’t talk about it w me even tho I mentioned really sore breasts for not just one week before period but now it’s a full two weeks, maybe more. Periods are very heavy and longer in between. Im in Perimenopause and am having a lot of emotional issues. I get PMS really bad. Night sweats too. She acted like “Well it is what it is” and here I am feeling like I’m out of control. Loosing it. We women have to work so hard to be taken seriously. I am so surprised that there is not more talk in the general public about perimenopause and menopause, and what it does to women and how we are so influenced by our hormone balances.
I have been on HRT for years! I am 77 years old and I plan on being on it forever. I do have a bone density test not only because of my age but I also take synthorid so that also puts me at a risk for bone loss plus my family history. This was a lot of great information that isn’t easy to find. I also watch Dr Taylor and have learned a lot from her. I am with you Angie on finding a different Dr if they don’t listen to you. Thanks 🙏
I am so happy to hear someone who is in a high profile position on RUclips address this! I'm 46 and have had symptoms for a while. There is a shortage of doctors who are knowledgeable! The doctors who will offer you estrogen are often not giving it in therapeutic doses....leaving women vulnerable to things that could be prevented IF ONLY there was an understanding that hormone replacement is fine and BENEFICIAL for most women. I called a doctor on the site who was supposedly in my area...and almost cried because he no longer is in practice. If anyone knows of any doctor who has treated their menopausal symptoms well and is KNOWLEDGEABLE about hormone replacement in or within a 3 hour drive of the greater Detroit area (not from there, but willing to drive!) I would love a good referral from anyone who has good success working with a doctor to resolve their symptoms.
OMG, it makes me so mad that one of your doctors knew about the various options, but never suggested them to you. Then the other doctor says, "Why do you want a bone density test?" INFURIATING. I have experienced similar things (I'm 56). I am contacting Dr. Taylor when I get my tax refund ... and I will be getting my taxes done the very day I get all my paperwork for it so I can get this going ASAP. Thank you, Angie. Cute puppies!!!
Even though this video was done in January, it just popped up in my feed. I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to Barbara Taylor. You interviewed her several months back and I started watching her videos too. Changed my life! I took my menopause management into my own hands, and armed with all the information she provided, I saw a specialist and we worked out an HRT program that works for my health. I could never have imagined how my various health issues were menopause related. It all comes down to getting your hormones regulated so you can get back to feeling like the vibrant, energetic woman you've always wanted to be. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'm 57 and have been on HRT for several years now. I started it mostly for disease prevention, particularly Alzheimers. My mother died of Alzheimers and now my dad has it. I plan on staying on it forever and hopefully I'll be lucky enough to not get Alzheimers. I love all the extra benefits you get on it as well!
Terri I am also 57 and just started compounded HRTCan you share what dosage you are taking and if you have had any side effects. I am so afraid of getting dementia as well. Thank you!
@@kettymanno7256 I get bioidentical hormones through my ob/gyn doctor. I use Divigel 0.5 mg. I used a compounding pharmacy in the past but made the switch. I don't have any side effects.
Terri Allen Thank you so much. I started with Divigel as well and 100 mg of progesterone orally but bothered my liver. How do you take your progesterone. I also put a couple of pounds on but no big deal. I just want to feel like myself. You have no idea how much I appreciate.
👍 a few years ahead of you, turning 64 & had a total hysterectomy in 2003. Been on the patch since in spite of the fear campaign. Love my estrogen patch- I needed it. Good for you for sharing the process. Everyone needs to figure out the pros and cons.
Women should NOT be afraid to switch doctors. They work for us, we should keep searching until we find a doctor who is alignment with our needs and who will LISTEN to us.
Thank you for this video! I especially appreciate the emphasis on being an advocate for yourself and changing doctors if needed. To often we blindly accept what doctors say without looking out for our own best interest. This is what we have been taught to do. There are many great doctors that will work to help us live our best lives, but we need to know ourselves and what we need.
Agree 100% Heather! It makes me mad that all women go through this if they live long enough yet the vast majority of doctors including OBGYNs know so little about menopause.
This video was SO helpful to me. I went off HRT for 8 months trying to quit it because I was fearful of developing breast cancer, but I too have a strong family history of heart attacks/strokes and was just miserable off HRT. I talked to my GYN and he said some of his patients stay on HRT for life, it's my choice. He also said you will age faster off the HRT in many aspects. I went back on it, but now I want to be sure I'm on an effective dose that will be beneficial to lowering my risks of heart disease, not just preventing hot flashes. This video really helped me get information before my next GYN appt this coming Monday. I have also listened to a few of Dr. Taylor's videos to inform myself. Thank you so much, Angie!
Bless you for stating that "EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND HAS DIFFERENT SITUATIONS" because that is so correct and EVERY woman needs to do their research. I had a hysterectomy when I was 45 and have been on a Climara .1 patch ever since. At some point, I did have a doc who was balking at renewing my prescription and he was preaching the breast cancer issue. I informed him that I had done my research and that I had no breast cancer in my family, that my research showed that my bones needed the estrogen and that estrogen can be a deterrent to colon cancer of which I have a family history. He finally relented to renew my script but made me sign a waiver to get it. And I immediately changed docs. Wow, I bet your doc was red faced when she got the results of your bone density? When did they change baseline bone density to age 65? My first bone density was done when I was younger than you are.
Ladies, in Menopause Taylor's YT video #85, there is a chart included which lists the different forms of estrogen and how much you need to prevent the diseases. If you're on the transdermal form (patch, gel, lotion, spray) it's .05mg/day.
Great information here. I went ahead and found a doctor that specializes in HRT. I am peri menopausal and ready to go on HRT asap. I knew she was the right doctor because when I asked for HRT she showed me her estrogen patch. In my family all the ladies have had heart problems. Love your channel so informative.
I think this is one of the best videos I have ever seen on youtube. Seriously. Angie, this was so informative. Thank you so much. I too can go in armed and not be fobbed off again. Seven years of no sleep now. It's 5:21 am here in Ireland as I write this and the sweats (might hopefully) be done for a few hours so I may get some shut eye now. I'm a single mom trying to keep afloat and I can tell ya - the lows I've had and the frustration I've had. Only male docs near us here in rural ireland and I had my then doc laugh at me when I described my symptoms. Six years I tried fighting back to no avail and no options of transferring. I'm now doctor-less (and I have epilepsy so that's not good). This video has been an absolute godsend. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for all of this content. I think I'm a few years younger than you are, and I assumed the same about menopause. The truth is that, with standard HRT out the window from that huge study, doctors don't really know the interrelated impact of the cessation of estrogen/progesterone in our bodies. Our life expectancy exceeds our hormonal output. This comment is too long already, but PLEASE, everyone, do the research (even beyond Dr. Taylor), take a good hard look at your symptoms, go into your appointment armed to challenge your doctors' assumptions -- they keep up with SO much, but this issue is evolving and far from settled science. THANK YOU a million times, Angie, for beating this drum!!!
When I was in my 30's and even my 40's, I thought menopause was a million miles away... almost like, maybe they'll find a cure before I have to go through it! Well... ta dah! Alas, "menopause happens", and I wasn't prepared and and was ill informed. It's been a roller coaster ride, for sure. Keep posting on this subject, Angie, it is very, VERY helpful!! It's still upsetting, though, that there's been relatively no real research done since the WHI study!!
Didn't know if anyone was aware that the average age for the WHI study was close to 70. 20 years after most have gone through menopause. That study was flawed in that the average age should have been close to menopause. Of course you could get heart issues giving a 70 yr. Old woman hormones 20 years after going through menopause. Look at the WHI study closely.
Thank you for this video Angie. I went through menopause at 49, I started on HRT right away because I was going insane! No sleep, no patience, no strength every symptom of menopause hit me like a ton of bricks.😬 My skin became intolerant of almost everything I had used for years, my hair fell out, I gained weight (it was awful). The HRT took about 4 months for my body to fully accept and adjust to but like you I don't intend to ever go off of it.❤
Your videos are a life savor. Prior to seeing these I thought I’d have to suffer. I went to my OB ready to ready to argue. Much like your OB she was reasonable and prescribed me a combo oral pill. I was not excited she did not want to prescribe a patch. She said she sees less break through bleeding with the oral and encouraged me to try it. It makes me nervous taking it. However, I was desperate and started it. One week in and I can finally sleep! From make up to Menopause Angie has our back.
Thank you for doing these video’s. I started watching Dr. Taylor and was shocked and so many times keep nodding my head. I feel like no one really educates or talks to women about this. I felt when I did ask you get the line “this is natural”. She talks about diet and exercise and all the hormones who knew. You are your best advocate.
Thank you so much for making this video! As a 40 -something woman I really appreciate your open honest discussion of a subject I feel does not get enough attention from our medical system.
Angie, thank you for this video. I too, am 57, and have osteopenia. My mother (80) has full blown osteoporosis and has had multiple falls/fractures so I got my first bone density test in 2020 and got this diagnosis for the first time. NOBODY told me that HRT should even be considered when found this out in 2020. I had another DEXA scan earlier this year to see if my bones were worse, and even tho I have been lifting weights for 20 years, I STILL LOST MORE BONE. Finally went on HRT in March after consulting a GYNO that is a MENOPAUSE SPECIALIST and am hoping this, exercise, nutrition, will help me not be destined to my mother's fate! I have been thinking this for months, that DR TAYLOR should be listened to by all women over 50 to see if they should further their own knowledge and look into HRT before it is too late! Thank you
Angie, I can't thank you enough for sharing such detailed information on your journey with menopause and the resources you have accessed to inform yourself. I have had a very similar experience with symptoms and responses from GP's ! I learned of Dr. Taylor from your channel over a year ago and have been trying to stay current with the information she shares. As an RN, I could not agree with you more about being informed and in charge of your own health-especially as it relates to menopause. I've dipped my toe in and out of HRT not ever really feeling like I've gotten any benefit. It's time for me to talk with Dr. Taylor and get a plan in place! Thank you again for your willingness to share your experiences. You are doing this Hot and Flashy community a HUGE service!!!
I watched this when you first published and back again after now hitting menopause and bumping around the youtube to educate myself. I’ve changed physicians once already and prepping to advocate for myself. Thank you for being here for all of us.
Thank you for this frank update. 🙂 I had been watching Dr Taylor on your advice and finally saw my Dr about six weeks ago. She gave me Estrogel and I feel SO much better. I was having 20 or more hot flashes daily and constant extreme night sweats and this had been going on for a couple of years. After about three weeks on the Estrogel, I feel normal again. It’s amazing. I’m so happy that you helped me to consider that there are options. ❤️
Although I'm not in this phase in my life, I'm still watching because regardless if we want to pay attention to it or not, life happens and before we know it we're wishing we would have paid attention 😊
Well first you start gaining weight. Brain fog you wont believe, knowing somethings not right. Then your periods go haywire. Period tries to happen in 1 day, not 5. Scary. Cant leave your house. Docs no help. Take an aspirin or 2, and it will slow it down so you can finally leave the house. Then it stops and no one can prepare you how bad hot flashes are. Nauseous, headache, hot flash you need to rip your clothes off. Then you start with urgent feeling to pee out of nowhere. It's not your muscles are weak. BS. ITS LACK OF HORMONES!!
You are very wise!! When I started the perimenopause journey, I was pretty sure I was dying of some terrible ailment. I knew things were changing but didn't connect many of the symptoms with the start of menopause. My doctors wouldn't help me connect the dots either as they would only treat me for one thing at a time. It took me nearly 2 years of being miserable and filled with anxiety to finally connect the dots and realize it was hormones wreaking havoc on my body and brain! Once I did, it helped me tremendously. But no one talks about this stuff and probably because most people probably don't connect their odd symptoms with perimenopause, they just take medications to treat them.
Thanks a ton for doing this video. I so strongly feel like women are under-informed or misinformed about menopause and what the short-term & long-term health effects are. I'm 49 and just starting my research in the past 4 months, mostly due to your channel and the information from Dr. Taylor. Thank you for being an advocate for women taking control, educating themselves and managing their own health care. It's something that needs to be said......and repeated often.
This is a wonderful video and I hope it helps a lot of women with their personal menopause journey. I am 75 and almost didn't watch thinking "this topic doesn't apply to me." But being a person who craves knowledge, I started listening and am so glad I did. I have a daughter and daughter-in-law who are approaching 50 and will soon need this kind of information to make their own healthcare choices. I will have some info to share and resources they can go to. Knowledge is everything. Thank you.
Thank you so much for discussing this topic. Because of you, I started watching Barbie Taylor & educated myself on this topic. I am currently on HRT & just like you said, “ I feel like myself again “. So true & I cant thank you enough Angie!!
I'm sure HRT is a great option for many women. My mother & I went on it because for osteoporosis, HRT disease, & NO family history for BC. I, unfortunately got BC. I'm in remission & doing great. My mother also developed BC but passed because it traveled into her brain. I then took the BRCA test thinking we missed something in our history. Negative test. I am now very careful not to chemically change my body's natural hormone balance in any shape or form.
I have had good experience with HRT, AT 39 I had 5 crushed vertebrae,3 months after I had a baby, from there on I was on Fosamax and others for 15 yrs, later started with a bioidentical patch, later the compounded cream etc, I see a naturopathic doctor who checks my blood every year, had to have mammogram etc. I am 74 yrs old and for a few yrs now I am prescribed a minimal dosis but makes a different. My skin has aged, I think, better than that of my contemporaries. many times ppl don’t believe my age. And I may say that thanks to you I have learned a lot about skin care, I am using all the serums you recommend, Curology, NewFace etc, my skin is healthier. Thank you for all that you do for us, you are a blessing
This topic scares me so bad and I appreciate you talking about it. I worked in this area and I still don't know a lot! This is something I still need to figure out
First puppies are the cutest!!! . I wasn't proactive in my 30's with a total hysterectomy with no HRT. So I have many things wrong with me physically, even 2 years ago having spinal fusion from the bottom of my neck to my tailbone is metal. So ladies of any age plz be proactive. Great info Angie!! Hugs to you :)
You've just saved many women from years of delayed treatment! I understand your solutions may not be for everyone but the pointers on how to communicate with our own physician is helpful.
I'm 61 now, went on BioIdentical hormones pretty soon afterward. It needed a little bit of tinkering and adjusting, but it's been great and I've never looked back.
Thank you Angie! Last year I was miserable- like you I was confused and felt like i had nowhere to go. By chance I heard you mention Dr. Barbe and immediately started watching her videos. I was floored by what I learned, I too had a consultation with her, one of my best decisions in 2019. I am now on HRT, sleeping again and secure in the knowledge that I am doing the right thing for me.

THIS IS the best video on this subject of Menopause on the WEB! altogether- I have had this exact journey- and had to educate myself as well a my Doctor, and had to find the right Doctor who listened to me and was willing to work with me to find the right HRT balance of Estradiol to Progesterone -- we know what is going on with our bodies better than any doctor can project onto us -- DON"T GIVE UP! Makes such a huge difference in the quality of the life that we have here!!!
Angie, I am definitely in this same timeframe of my life. I'll be 55 this year and I don't sleep nearly as well as I once did. It's driving me crazy, the night sweats, my hair is thinning, etc., and I've been delaying consulting with my PCP. THANK YOU so much for this valuable information and your motivation. You're the best. :)
Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm 52. I think I have been on HRT for about 5 years. My gyno keeps trying to talk me out of HRT. I actually went to my annual appt last year and asked for an adjustment because I was having issues with heat intolerance. She said they don't do that but come back in the fall when there is cooler weather and see if I'm still having an issue. My mother had a heart attack and I couldn't get back there because I became her care taker. Later I went to my PCP for a check up and come to find out I have Graves disease and that's what was causing the heat intolerance. Being on HRT actually helps too because there is more bone cell turn over in people with a hyper thyroid and/or Graves. So my gyno who treated me like I was nuts not only could have mentioned to see my PCP to find out what else could have been going on, could have made my health even worse. I explained that in my next visit and she just looked at me like she was dumb founded. Then tried to talk me out of HRT again. I'm going to bring it up with my Endo this month. I'll see if he can take over that HRT prescription. My gyno keeps mentioning the dangers of breast cancer and HRT. I think she's stuck on it and I really didn't appreciate her making me feel like I don't know my body well enough to know something is wrong. I'm going to check out the video's and maybe do a consultation with Dr. Taylor. I have a feeling I'm going to have to switch gyno's because even going in there armed with information doesn't seem to help.
Such valuable info ! I’m so thankful I live in Cleveland and went to the Cleveland Clinic at first signs of menopause and got on HRT ! Good luck on your journey Angie !
I also live in Cleveland and go to the Cleveland Clinic, but my doctor initially suggested antidepressants! After I asked if that would prevent heart attack, dementia, and osteoporosis, she reluctantly prescribed HRT but at half the dose that Dr. Taylor recommends and said HRT won't protect your heart and "it doesn't work that way". Argh!
@@Donna_345 This is EXACTLY what we are up against!!!! WHY are doctors REFUSING to treat women with THERAPUTIC doses???? I'm so frustrated. I want my hormones back...
If your doctor is open to therapeutic dosing of estrogen and has treated you....could you please give a name? Women are desperate for a doctor who knows how to treat menopause appropriately.
so informative! women have been and still are in the blind about menopause..not just hot flashes and no periods!!!! I am 50 and have regular but slightly different periods and have had two benign tumours removed from my uterus in the past year and a half. I really appreciate you sharing your journey and whilst I will probably have a totally different journey to you, I feel like I have some info and some choices available to make things easier. I did the natural childbirth thing and wanted to do the natural menopause thing, but now I realise that there is so much more to the big picture and it is up to me to try and work it all out and not just go with the flow. Thank you!! Thank you!!
Thank you! I LOVE my HRT. I’m still having to mess with my progesterone, but having my brain and libido back, is so worth it. We all need to be our own patient advocates. Fantastic video.
Lou Lou, I am seeing a doctor that uses a compound pharmacy and injects a pellet that dissolves over time. I get both estradiol and testosterone. “SottoPelle” is what he has studied and has used for over 30 years. Do your homework, but getting a consultation was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Thank you SO much Angie!!! I've been struggling for about 13 years with night sweats (SOAKING!😒), but it seems since 2014, everything changed. Mood, sleep, energy, my period, everything!! I started watching Menopause Barbie a few months back, but I really need to set aside some time to really delve in. I've been on and off bio hormones (always had negative effects with hot flashes or sleep), had biopsies, on antidepressants and antianxiety meds. I've given up. But I need to do something because I can't keep going on like this. It's completely ruined my life. So I thank you once more for putting this information out there. It's given me the push I needed to get back in the game and get back to claiming my life back! Here I come once again OBGYN. 😊🤗🤗🥰🤗🤗
@Lyrical Miracle , Hey I wanted to see how you are doing with your symptoms? Did you consult with Dr .Taylor (menopause Barbie) how have things turned out for you? I want to consult with her but I’m so burned out with doctors and the very overwhelming and multitude of opinions I get on over load big time. In did go to Dr. Taylor site and immediately got overwhelmed with a 17 page documentation amd a 5 day window to get all the medical information she needs. I have over 10 years of medical just for hormone treatments that haven’t helped to balance me. I’d like to know if you consulted with her and how it went. Thank you for any insight . 🙏
I went to my Dr yesterday for HRT, I’ll find out something when my blood work comes back in 5 days. I had a full hysterectomy 22 years ago. I’ve been taking the depo estradiol shot once a month, due to me turning 60 in July she told me I had to get off of it so. She lowered my dose last month and I didn’t sleep the 1st week brain fog is aweful so this is why I went to see A HRT Dr. I pray everything works my way. I don’t feel good and I definitely don’t want any diseases! Thanks for your video!
I can’t thank you enough for this video Angie! I just had my follow up appt with my gyn doc yesterday about how my HRT treatment is going and we decided to increase my estrogen level. This morning after watching you I clicked on the link to the podcast and learned so much! I truly appreciate your willingness to share your personal experience publicly so that we can educate ourselves to better know our bodies and how to live healthier, happier & longer. You’re the best!!
My journey is almost exactly the same. I have had two biopsies and a DNC. There were no problems except u explained bleeding. My doctor was refusing to write me a new prescription for HRT. She even told me she was prohibited from giving it to me after the age of 60, which I will hit this year. I reached out to Dr. Taylor and she told me to find a new doctor who is a member of a professional group of doctors in North America who are experts in Menopause. I found a new doctor within the same system and she wrote me the new prescription. Like you, it was for the 0.375 dosage with 100 grams of oral progesterone. I have gone through Dr. Taylor's information and really want to get back to the 0.050 dose. This video has armed me with something to suggest to my ob/gyn. It sounds like a perfect solution because I haven't been keen about having the oral progesterone have to be processed by the kidneys. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this information! I found your channel years ago when I was searching 'menopause' and while I love your other content and am a loyal follower, THIS is so appreciated. I haven't yet found the right doctor (recent move) and combo of HRT, but because of you, and Dr Taylor, I feel empowered to speak up for myself. I am so grateful for your tenacity in research and willingness to share with all of us - THANK YOU!!
Angie, thank you for posting. This past week I discussed starting HRT with my doctor. I’m on year post menopausal, and was trying to manage without HRT. Big mistake! Thankfully, my doctor is a strong advocate for HRT. Just took my first dose today!
Same story and situation for me. I am trying to figure out what to take. I’ve been managing this (unsuccessfully) on my own for quite some time and have decided to go the prescription route.Thankfully, I have no health issues or history of anything. Have you found something that is working for you?
Thank you for recommending women educate themselves. I am 60, been in menopause for 13 years. I requested a bone density test when the hot flashes started in my mid 30s. I already had osteopenia in both hips! I was able to reverse it and today have no evidence of it. I'd like to add one tidbit of information, just in case you haven't run across it yet - vit K2. I know you are a researcher, so I'll let you discover why it should be apart of your health program, if it isn't already (especially since heart disease runs in your family)
What did you do to reverse osteopenia besides K-2? Its amazing you reversed it!!! Also what type of k-2 I eat Kale and Spinach etc. I have low level osteopenia in lower lumbar spine, also 1500 mg. calcium vitamin d and 300 mg. of magnesium daily. Thank You
@@jennieoh8543 I followed a program called Save Our Bones. The author can get a little off on the deep end with some things, but overall is what I did. The K2 M7 is a major piece of the puzzle. In addition, I have cut out all sugars and follow a low carb way of eating. At 60 I have no evidence of bone loss.
Thank you ever so much! My story it's similar to yours but although I'm older then you I luckily started to get HRT early enough. Recently though my ob-gyn retired and when I started bleeding a couple of months ago, the new ob-gyn told me to stop HRT - which I did - and to get a uterus examination. As soon as I stopped HRT I thought I was literally loosing myself... as you so well described. Once I had the exam - which was reassuring, cancerwise - I called my old ob-gyn and she immediately suggested that the bleeding was caused by lack of progesteron (the dose that I took for almost 8 years was not enough any more...) and told me to resume HRT immediately. Just as well! I'm back to HRT since three days and I already feel better. As I have also genetical high colesterol (it runs in my father's family) and a serious history of hearth attack on both side of my family (and no history of breast cancer) I know I certainly need HRT and, just as you were saying in this precious video, 3 years ago, I intend to go on forever...
Yay for being a menopause warrior! My first doc put me on the lowest dosage but kept pushing me to wean myself off within 5 years. I did with the fear she instilled in me. She moved away so I told my next doc what I needed and he did not question me. (I had had a consultation with Dr. Taylor and was armed) Loved this important video update and love you Angie!
You are a Goddess!!! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your journey and all the IMMENSELY important information for all of us! I have all those factors in my family tree and fortunately no apparent breast cancer risks. I'm currently dealing with my dad and his progressive dementia, his mother died at 85 suffering for several years with Alzheimer's. I can't tell you the fears I have for myself. I'm 48 and will definitely be discussing this with my Ob/Gyn ASAP. You are a true hero to me, THANK YOU.❤❤❤
I had a full hysterectomy at age 47 and was not on hormones until 10 months later when a full blown panic attack came on along with moodiness, muscle fatigue, sleeplessness, and hot flashes! I found a doctor that prescribed me bio identical hormones. It took some tweaking of how to get it into my system, but found out there are pharmacists that will custom make hormone compounds, and I take 1 pill at bedtime. I will never be without! Thanks for sharing your story!
I, too, watched Menopause Barbie about a year ago. I recently had my consult with her and, thanks to her,I knew what I needed and how to get it from my doctor! Hallelujah! I am doing great and am so glad you’re under her advisement, as well! Thanks for this update! Can you please share with me the actual brand of estradiol you’re on?
We are the same age and while I have not had the same menopause experience as you I do NOT think there is enough conversation amongst women about menopause. Thank you for this very helpful conversation. You are the best
Angie, that was so incredibly helpful. I’m 53 and a purest, so never thought our new that post menopause really had all these effects....which I am feeling. Brain fog, putting on a little weight in the middle (never a problem before) and the list goes on. I will be checking out your links and educating myself. Thank you for addressing this issue!!
They are finding that women in their 80's that were on Fosamax are breaking their bones. Of major concern, when they fall they are breaking the Femor Bone (one of the largest and strongest bones in the body). Definitely do your homework on Fosamax. I will not take it.
@@donnawashburn1638 I worked in nursing home settings for approximately 17 yrs. I saw many ladies taking Fosomax and they had terrible side effects, such as jaw degeneration, broken bones including ribs, legs, and spinal vertebrae. Often, after a fall or broken anything, they would become guarded and immobile, this caused many cases of pneumonia and consequently many deaths as a result. Definately seek an alternative to Fosomax!
Thank you so much! My doctor said no hormones and here’s some Lexapro. Just rolled into menopause last month (1 year no period). Trying to find another doc that will treat me individually.
Thank you, this is great! I am going to a new OBGYN next week because I have been going through perimenopause for a few years, I sleep like total crap, I have a sleep app and my sleep average is 4.5 hours of sleep. I am so groggy when I wake up and I have no motivation to do much. I do force myself though as best I can. I crave sugar like no other! So thanks to your info I will explore more and see what I can educate myself with before going to see her. Take care!
Thank you Angie for this video! I needed this information before going to see my doctor next month. Thank you SO much for all the hard work you put into your videos, they are always stellar. I have learned so much from you! ♥
Great video! Thank you for sharing. Dr. Barbara Taylor is The Menopause Guru! I watched all her videos and got her book, have a consultation scheduled with her and am very excited and hopeful. Every woman deserves to be at her best and we all need to be educated properly about Menopause ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing this important info. I'm 61 and like you was unaware of the implications of estrogen deficiency until I watched Dr Taylor. My late mum had heart disease, osteoporosis and Alzheimers ! I have been on hrt for the past 3 months but have been having some light bleeding so my gp is not happy, especially as I was so late in starting the treatment. I may well have missed the 'window of opportunity' and would encourage all your viewers to not make my mistake. Like you, I requested a bone density scan and found that I have osteopenia in my hip and spine in spite of a very active lifestyle with lots of exercise and my gp has now prescribed calcium and vit d pills! I really love ALL your videos and have learnt so much from you. Thank you, Angie for working so hard to consistently deliver top notch videos for us. You are terrific!
Thank you so much Angie! I listened to the podcast when you recommended it before. It's shocking how much bad information is out there. I'm going to finally make my appointment to get on HRT as soon as I finish here.
GOOD FOR YOU for advocating for yourself. It’s shameful the suffering that the medical establishment is just fine with having us endure. Astonishing. We all need a master class (doctors included). Thank you for educating us and sharing your journey. ❤️❤️❤️
l've been on HRT patches since perimenopause at age of about 48-49.
May I ask which progesterone are you on??
Great to hear from women who have been on HRT for a long time! So glad to hear you are doing so well!
Do you take testosterone?

Happy to hear you are helping your partner!!! Smart man...
Your such a good husband.
I just discovered and bought a neck fan. It looks like headphones but fits around your neck and blows cool air upwards. Amazing.
Thank you for supporting wife. This is hell on earth for so many of us. 🙏

Angie you are an angel to do this. I'm a registered nurse who went through menopause about 13 years ago.
I'm curious if you went on HRT? I'm 57 and still have some things going on in post menopause. I'm seeing a menopause specialist through NAM.
Hi Terri thx for sharing Are you still using divigel .25mg? Any negative side effects? Do you use progesterone as well? Thank YOu
@@kettymanno7256 I take progesterone orally and don't have any side effects with it.
@@AngieHotandFlashy sadly, so true 😪
So true, so true!!!
Thanks for sharing
Great information here. I went ahead and found a doctor that specializes in HRT. I am peri menopausal and ready to go on HRT asap. I knew she was the right doctor because when I asked for HRT she showed me her estrogen patch. In my family all the ladies have had heart problems. Love your channel so informative.
What is your estrogen patch dosage? Do you also take progesterone, if so how many mg's?
Dr. Taylor made a comment in one of her videos “make the rest of your life the best of your life.” I really like that.
Thank You Angie for mentioning Menopause Taylor, she is an menopause encyclopedia! With real information not hype!❤
Although I'm not in this phase in my life, I'm still watching because regardless if we want to pay attention to it or not, life happens and before we know it we're wishing we would have paid attention 😊
Lindsay, you are 100% correct.
Same here. Angie is so informative, I always feel educated when I watch her videos.
Girls watch Dr. Taylor's videos that Angie suggested. She explains everything!!!
Hi Angie
Please provide another menopause video. Have there been any changes since? Love your video. You have put my heart to rest!
Thank you.
I'm so happy you watched Joan! It's such important information and I hope your daughter and DIL appreciate how much you love them! xo ~a.
Great video, I adore Dr Taylor, she has taught me so much!
she's freaking expensive! My ND is half her rates and I feel great! No pellets no oral hormones all bio-identical.
@@MannyWC She's not expensive for a doctor! Plus all the FREE information she gives us without trying to sell something is unreal!
@@MannyWC who do u go to
I have had good experience with HRT, AT 39 I had 5 crushed vertebrae,3 months after I had a baby, from there on I was on Fosamax and others for 15 yrs, later started with a bioidentical patch, later the compounded cream etc, I see a naturopathic doctor who checks my blood every year, had to have mammogram etc.
This is something I still need to figure out
I’m so grateful I found this today. Beyond grateful, really. Thank you.
I am 60 and just started BHRT.
Omg thank u for sharing this info. Everything you said resonates with me. Going thru the same exact thing. You have given me hope!
Which HRT did she prescribe for you? will she prescribe the natural/compounded HRT?
You’re a mentor for women: different ages. Thank you. I’m very blessed to have found you! What a beautiful woman (inside and out). You’re changing women’s lives in many ways. ❤️

wow very powerful messages in this one, thanks a million for your sharing's.
Angie, Thank you for your honesty and your willingness to help others by talking about your journey! Sending you much love from Texas!
Get rid of that doctor. You need to be supported not embattled with your medical care provider. Good luck.
Argh!
Donna Sue I live in Cleveland also , gonna have to look up HRT, what does it stands for
@@Donna_345 This is EXACTLY what we are up against!!!! WHY are doctors REFUSING to treat women with THERAPUTIC doses???? I'm so frustrated. I want my hormones back...
Did your doctor give you a theraputic dose??? So many just give a minimal amount...and that will not help with a lot of the health related issues.
Thank you!! Thank you!!
I can’t thank you enough for bringing this topic to us. You are a gift. Thank you thank you thank you.
You absolutely must do a one on one with meno Barbie!
@Lyrical Miracle ,
Hey I wanted to see how you are doing with your symptoms?
This was such a helpful video! Bless you for sharing!
Kris Zuppan thank you!!
@@KKZFrog Thank you for your reply
Kris Zuppan also it is important to take vitamin D
Taylor and was armed)
Loved this important video update and love you Angie!
Thank you so much for making this video! I need to definitely change my doctor
Forgot to say I’m 54 1/2!
I recommend watch liz Earle menapause bec of her i new what iwanted.
KEEP THIS VIDEO UP THERE!! THANKS ANGIE.
Angie you mentioned going on Fosamax. Do some research on that first. There are a lot of nit so great side effects. There are other options.
They are finding that women in their 80's that were on Fosamax are breaking their bones. Of major concern, when they fall they are breaking the Femor Bone (one of the largest and strongest bones in the body). Definitely do your homework on Fosamax. I will not take it.
Ah, thanks all for the insight on Fosamax!!
@@ginni333 yes im married to a dentist and fosamax does terrible things to the jaw and teeth.
All really interesting- wish some of you mentioned which alternatives to investigate. Will do research.
Wow. Thank you for this. It was eye opening for someone in the middle of this menopausal mess.

Such a great informative video! Can you please do an update for 2022? Are you still on HRT? Thank so much!
Thanks so much for sharing your story Eleanor!
Thank you so much Angie! I listened to the podcast when you recommended it before. It's shocking how much bad information is out there. I'm going to finally make my appointment to get on HRT as soon as I finish here.
I enjoy Dr. Taylors videos, very informative. 5 years till you're a senior citizen.
I adore you. I am watching you now to know what I need to do in a few years. You make me feel empowered. Thank you.
Yes! Empowerment is the goal!! xo ~a.
GOOD FOR YOU for advocating for yourself. It’s shameful the suffering that the medical establishment is just fine with having us endure. Astonishing. We all need a master class (doctors included). Thank you for educating us and sharing your journey. ❤️❤️❤️
And OMG, those puppies! ❤️🐾
