    Okay, I'm only five minutes in, and I'm tearing up. You are, without a doubt a pure gift to us women. From the minute I saw you on Dominique's channel, I was drawn in! As if I had known you somehow for years. Thank you, from the bottom of my menopausal heart for sharing your passion with is. It's clear that you want to help us, for you to take the time to answer (in detail, many times) guiding us along...my menopause, my way. I love you! Thank you, Dr. Barbie!

Thank you so much for investing in yourself this way. And just so you know, I teared up as I read your message.

      I was in a health food store buying a product for myself you talked about. The man was interested to know to tell women look you up on you tube. I am under S. E initials . I have a funny cat face pic. I messaged you on face book. It is hard to want to open up sometimes on here cause of ridicule or negativity. I just opened up to someone on here and glad to know she is a lot like me.

    I just started HRT for perimenopause. My doctor prescribed Estradiol alone . I was having horrible symptoms going as far as declining a job promotion due to being unstable mentally. Long story short, after watching your videos I found that I need to take Progesterone as well to protect my uterus. I messaged my doctor and she immediately ordered Prometrium 200mg. She should've known 😕 Thank you!!

      Yes, she should have known.
      But, if you get this menopause education I deliver here, I can assure you that you will know 90% than most doctors. Menopause is THEE most neglected topic on Earth. There is no education on menopause in medical school. And 4-year Ob/Gyn residency programs devote only 1% of the 4 years to menopause.

      2mg E and 100mg P nightly -
      I keep having periods every two weeks that are awful and tons of spotting in between. I went to my doctor again and she said she could double up the P to 200 and take it for 14 days then stop P to regulate a period. Other option was lower the E to 1mg.
      Please help! I don’t know what to do and the doc seems to not be certain what direction we should take either!

    There’s a lot of misinformation here: vitex does not contain progesterone, but acts upon pituitary to influence LH , thus stimulating progesterone production.
    Wild Yam is a completely different plant, nothing to do with the yams sold in store! 😂
    It contains precursors to estrogen, progesterone, Dhea & testosterone ( and probably many other hormones) . How it works in woman’s body it’s a bit of a mystery, but I suspect it balances whatever is needed. Even though it’s officially claimed wild yam has to be processed in the lab in order to turn diosgenin ( hormonal precursor ) into progesterone. I was have been using wild yam for years to balance my body and stop PMS, it worked like magic! Perhaps my body would turn it into testosterone forts and then make progesterone from it, just like it happen later in our bodies (we actually make quite a bit of testosterone as a raw material for other hormones).
    Prop 65: any root from a soil
    not specifically tested for lead or mercury will bear the warning.

      Hi can I take Dhea and a progesterone cream at the same time?

  • @Luna_and_Miles
    @Luna_and_Miles 8 лет назад +57

    I'm 55 (56 end of April), and my peri-menopause started at age 49. I still had periods through my 53rd year, three and four months apart. I went 1 full year with no periods at all, then suddenly had one, a normal 5-day period, with mild cramps and normal
    flow, then again another one the following month. Two normal periods after 1 full year without them! Argh! I've now gone over a year with no periods, so I guess it is "official" now that I am in full-on menopause. I have never had hot flashes, but I had everything
    from headaches to extremely dry skin (even hives for one month), and mood swings, to what I called "peri-menopausal rage" where I felt intense frustration and tension.
    The worst symptom for me though is the one I have had now for over a year, and
    that is a weird sort of tinnitus, with an odd back of the head fullness, and ear
    fullness. I ruled out all other causes, saw doctors, and there is no problem
    with ear wax, no ear drum damage, no hearing loss. It is just an odd head
    fullness with a sort of "hissss" sound. It feels more like a hyper-awareness of my auditory nerves, or an over-excitability of my auditory nerves. I feel it more than hear it.
    I cannot afford to go to a doctor for Bioidentical hormones, which I would prefer, so I treat myself with plant-based hormone cream. When I started peri-menopause, I used Progesterone cream (Emerita brand), and it made me feel better. It calmed down the bloating, the painful cramping, and headaches, and was even a slight mood-elevator. It even helped a lot with the beginning of vaginal dryness. Same day I used it, I was "back
    to normal" there.
    After about 2 years though, about age 51, 52, my body stopped responding to Progesterone cream, so I stopped using it, and used herbal and vitamin supplements, and flax seeds, Evening Primrose Oil, Black Cohosh, and Maca. (none of which seemed to do anything). From age 52 to now (about 3 1/2 years), I have felt steadily
    worse. I look older in my face. I have more pronounced nasolabial creases, which depresses me, and I have had hair thinning since the onset of peri, although it has plateaued now, and I am no longer losing hair, it is just still thinner on top.
    The ear/head congestion/tinnitus thing is the worst symptom. I would gladly take any of the other symptoms over this. I am also exhausted, and I actually miss having periods, and miss feeling like my "regular self." Now and then there is that "going crazy" feeling, but I attribute that to tension and generalized anxiety. Through my own research (because my doctor is no help), I thought I would try Estriol cream (emerita brand), but only a tiny bit, less than 1/8 teaspoon at a time, and only twice a week. I use Progesterone cream too, but every day for 3 weeks, then take one week off of both creams.
    I will try this regimen for at least two more months, for a total of three months, and see if there is any change. But I sure wish I had a way of monitoring this with a health professional. Sad that it is not affordable to everyone. Oh, I also eat a vegan diet, and eat fermented soy, so that's another reason I think I only need a tiny bit of
    Estrogen. (sorry for the LONG comment! I just thought other women could relate to
    my story)

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 лет назад +15

      Tell me, F.B., is there a reason you're opposed to taking estrogen? You've hardly mentioned it in your comment, and it seems very obvious to me that it's the answer to all your concerns and symptoms. I'm not talking about phytoestrogens, which are so weak they do very little. I'm talking about a pharmaceutical estrogen (many of which are bioidentical - most patches, vaginal rings, sprays, gels), for which your insurance will pay.
      Would you consider it?

    • @Luna_and_Miles
      @Luna_and_Miles 8 лет назад +4

      Hi Menopause Barbie, thank you for replying to my comment :)
      Well, I talked to my GYN about it, and she would not do bioidenticals for me, said she has no experience with that, but would prescribe the pharmaceuticals - but it still is not covered by my insurance, so I'd have to pay out of pocket. I would, but I thought it was dangerous, a cancer risk.
      I hoped the botanical creams could be used in larger doses, if they were not doing enough. Is there any benefit to doubling or tripling the cream dosages? Or is your recommendation just to do the pharmaceutical estrogen? I thought Estriol was the "safe" estrogen to use.

    • @Luna_and_Miles
      @Luna_and_Miles 8 лет назад +2

      I also felt safe using the Estriol cream after reading this (since I was self-diagnosing and self-treating):
      www.virginiahopkinstestkits.com/estriolhormone.html
      I'm more confused than ever now. I thought I already was using real estrogen and progesterone. What is the difference between a bioidentical estrogen and a phytoestrogen? I think I would have to go to a pharmacy outside my area too, for the bioidentical hormones, because my nearest one, the one assoc w/ my medical group, does not have the bioidenticals there. sigh :(

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 лет назад +22

      It's all a matter of opinion ... yours! Here are the facts: Estriol is bioidentical regardless of whether you get it from a compounded pharmacy or as a pharmaceutical product. The compounded products are more expensive, not as routinely covered by insurance, and possibly weaker. The pharmaceutical estradiol comes in many forms and is much more predictable because it has to undergo FDA approval.
      Most of women's concerns about cancer risk due to estrogen are so far off from the facts that it's shocking. I'm assuming (if you're like most women) that you're referring to the risk of breast cancer. the fact is that no one knows if estrogen causes breast cancer. We just don't have evidence that it does, but can't prove that it doesn't.
      The thing that you (and all women) should be worried about isn't breast cancer. It's heart attack. Here are the statistics: Breast cancer kills 1 out of every 29 women. Heart attacks kill 1 out of every 2 (yes, two) women. So why is everyone running around afraid of breast cancer?
      If you can afford it, I think you should get whatever you prefer even if you have to pay for it yourself. People spend loads of money on Alternative & Complementary products and plastic surgery, but balk at spending on medications. If you want a bioidentical form of estrogen that your gynecologist will prescribe, just ask for one that consists of estradiol or estriol. Most of them contain estraDIol rather than esTRIol.
      Estriol is the weakest of the estrogens. That doesn't mean it's safer. It's just a little different in its chemical structure. The Alternative & Complementary world promotes estriol as safer. The traditional medical world doesn't make such a distinction.
      Another alternative is to find a gynecologist who is comfortable with compounded estriol.
      I believe that peace of mind is everything. I want you to get what you want.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 лет назад +21

      This is an article written from the Alternative & Complementary perspective. It's not a matter of right or wrong. The fact is that your ovaries produce more than one type of estrogen. 80% estriol, 10% estradiol, and 10% estrone. When your ovaries stop producing estrogen, you can replace it in a variety of ways. It's all a matter of preference.
      The article makes it sound like estriol is all good and estradiol is all bad. That's not the case. As with most things, nothing is perfect, and there are pros and cons to everything. I think you should try one option, and if it's not adequate in improving your symptoms and preventing the long-term health risks of having no estrogen (heart attack, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's Disease), try a different one.
      The difference between bioidentical estrogen and phytoestrogens is huge. The strength of a phytoestrogen is only 1/100 to 1/1000 as strong as human or pharmaceutical estrogen. Bioidentical estrogen is somewhere in between because it isn't as regulated as pharmaceutical estrogen. Phytoestrogens are not strong enough to protect your heart, bones, and brain all by themselves.
      If you haven't watched these videos in order, please do so. I explain all of this very clearly, and I don't want you to be confused.

You know we have something in common "travelling around" so frequently. I am glad you finally settle down in your home country. The most difficult moves this time. I am in the early stage of my menopause. Lucy,
      Welcome aboard to "Menopause Taylor University." You'll find that if you start at the very first video (going by the number after each title), you'll understand absolutely everything. And you'll be shocked at what you didn't know, and delighted that you now do know.
      Each video builds on the last. It's just like school: You had to learn the alphabet before you could read. And nowadays, there are so many overwhelming misconceptions that women mistake as facts ... that you just don't know what you don't know.
      I respond to all comments here on RUclips daily. So, I will answer all your questions ... but I'll also know if you aren't watching the videos in order. (I'm like your mother. I have eyes in the back of my head!)
      And if you need me to help you tailor anything to your personal situation, you can schedule a one-on-one consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME any time.

    Dr Barbie thank you. I've been going through the progression of your videos in sequence from the beginning (as you suggested after I watched some of your more recent ones). Half way through this video tutorial I replayed it as was processing some of what you shared at the beginning. I, I think most of us are like little sponges soaking in all the information you share. Yet as the chameleon was affected by the color of the tank background I feel as we watch you more & more .....I'm rambling my point is we're affected by your passion as well as news. I hope that your no longer moving each year to a different country will be a happy change in your future. I don't want to pry and forgive me if overstepping as I'm a stranger after all but concerned for your relationship . That's my thought as somehow my heart tugs a little for you. I will finish watching this tutorial.
    Being years & years post menopausal I wish I had all this information before I was even perimenopausal. I've shared your videos & RUclips channel with my sister, my daughter and with my young neighbor. You are not only an educator for us but you live your passion. I'm learning so much. Though I'm way past the window for HRT I want to learn more about how to balance my lifestyle with wellness not just a goal but a daily practice. Thank you!!

    Dear Dr. Barbie. Thank you does begin to express what you do for us, you are a gift, truly. Here you explained that wild yam root is actually estrogen. The manufacturers of one of the creams you show in this tutorial (the same one recommended by my gynecologist as a progesterone supplement) says "This progesterone is derived from diosgenin; a steroid sapogenin extracted from the tubers of Mexican Wild Yam Root. One pump provides 20mg of USP progesterone." Does this mean it is really estrogen?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад

      With herbal products, you NEVER know what you're really getting.
      That little word "extracted" means a lot more than you can imagine. It means that the estrogen was removed from the Wild Yam and then chemically converted into progesterone with all the chemical & chemical reactions required to do so, just as with any other synthetic product. Why women assume such products are :natural,: I'll never understand.
      But, the truth is that the entire vitamin, mineral, supplement, and herb industry is entirely unregulated. So, they can get any product (maybe Wild Yams, maybe not) from anywhere and combine them with anything (fillers, substitutes, contaminants), and sell them to you without having to divulge any facts. That's why these products don't come with any accompanying literature.
      If you want me to help you personally with any of this, just schedule a one-on-one consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME.

    Doctor Barbie. (Am I alone in thinking that that actually sounds SO strange)? Anyhow, I was thinking the other day about the impact of all of your menopausal videos and the fact that there really is no-one like you on the entire worldwide web. So, this educational forum and the impact you can make globally from it is staggering particularly when we consider that before you came along and shone a light on the menopause - there was precious little on the topic on the web. Hello Dr. Menopause Barbie!Thank you Thank you. Thank You for being you! You are a brilliant doctor and educator! Your tutorials have come along just at a time in my life being that I am 52 and just received my FSH (40.6) last month. You are almost as great as Botox at this point in my life...just kidding....you are invaluable! I have watched all of the You Tube videos in order and am still a little confused per this #37. I still have all of my female plumbing and am currently using all botanical supplements (Estroven, Vitex, and Cayenne). I am confused as to what I can use after my ovaries go out of business when it comes to progesterone. You stated that Chaste berry will no longer work after ovaries shut down. Since I am much into the botanicals, is bio-identical my next best option when it comes to getting my progesterone?
    I cannot wait to see your next educational topics! Keep up your fabulous work!!!!!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +3

      Oh, I'm so sorry if I confused you. You CAN use Chasteberry after your ovaries go out of business. You can use it indefinitely if that's what you want to do. You'll find Chasteberry in all sorts of forms. You can continue to use all your current options. Be aware that, over time, as you move farther into your menopausal life, that these herbal remedies may stop working as well as they do now. That's because, being that they're herbs, they are very weak. You may find that you need higher quantities or that you need something stronger. It just depends on how your symptoms evolve.
      Also, be sure you recognize that no herbs will prevent any of the long term diseases associated with menopause (heart attack, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's Disease). So be sure to get educated on what you need to do to prevent those, too. It's all in my book. And if you can come to one of my seminars, do so. Just go to my website, where you'll see the dates. Because you're 52, you're going to need to get this education faster than you'll be able to by watching one RUclips video a week. I've made sure to provide educational tools for every timeline.
      I applaud you for taking control of your health!

    I used chaste tree and blackcohush all thru my perrymanipause and continued thru manipause and now it’s been 5 yrs post.
    And I never had hot flashes.
    But I do have insomnia and 5 yrs ago I got hypothyroid.
    And now I’m looking to do bio identical pallets and or patches prescribed.
    Question Dr. did I do something right because I did not get the hot flashes because I was using the herbs.
    This is reassuring because I have used herbs instead of prescribed cream and patches so have I done something for my brain in my not too late to do the hormone so I can prevent Alzheimer’s heart disease and heart attack

      This is precisely the kind of thing that warrants a consultation, which you can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. Thus far, none of the management options you've used is capable of preventing heart attack, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer's. In a consultation, I will tailor everything specifically to YOU and find YOUR best options.

    I just stumbled on your channel and have been marathon watching your videos. I am 49 years old and had a total hysterectomy in April 2014 so I still have my ovaries. I think I’m peri menopausal. After my hysterectomy I was still going through pms symptoms and understood I was ovulating. Nothing really changed but in the last year I’ve been having night sweats, hot flashes, low libido but recently I’ve been been experiencing extreme indigestion and acid reflux and it is intolerable and with my research I found that the enzyme in your stomach also decrease with age! Great! (Sarcasm) I’m not a big fan of pharmaceuticals unless I’m up against a wall. I had a good friend die of an aggressive form of estrogen-fed breast cancer when she was 54 after using using creams that contained estrogen which she rubbed on her breast to alleviate peri menopause symptoms. She had no family history although her daughters later tested positive for the gene. Ever since then it has terrified me to even consider estrogen creams or HRT. I try to alleviate my symptoms naturally and homeopathically. I eat relatively healthy (flexitarian and eat mostly plant based) take ashwaganda and black cohosh teas and supplements and l-glutamine to rebuild and protect my stomach lining along with probiotics and fermented foods! Would you recommend anything else I could do?

      I have no product to sell you, and I have no angle. I just give you the facts. (And I'm the only person I know of who's doing anything of the sort.) You'll find that the videos build on one another in terms of knowledge. Everything should make sense.
      I teach you to tailor the information to YOU so that you can make the best choices for yourself. I'll give you statistics so that you can weight the importance of each factor and prioritize accordingly.
      I welcome you to my channel, and just know that I'm here to help you. I respond to these comments here on RUclips daily. And if you go to my website: MenopauseTaylor.ME, you'll see articles and other resources that will help you.

    Postmenopausal since 2017. Will be 60 soon. Bad lungs (need transplant) and put on Prednisone for lung flares over the years (along with not able to exercise as much as I used to, not eating right or right portions, etc.) caused large weight gain. I had hormones tested and have been diagnosed with "unopposed estrogen" and just now told that fat cells, adipose fat, releases estrogen. I never knew that! I've lost 33#'s so far but lots more to go. Still have uterus. Having a day or less of postmenopausal bleeding every few months. Have had to go, for years now, for ultrasounds (to check for cancer) and have had to have several d&c and Hysteroscopies every few months it seems as well.
    I don't have enough progesterone yin to balance the estrogen yang... And I can't lose weight fast enough to stop the effects of the excess estrogen. :-(
    Two ob/gyn specialists tell me I need added progesterone. They also told me not enough studies/no fda approval for the bioidentical progesterone cream I've asked for and want (not the synthetic kind they want me to take), yet they want to do IUD of progesterone (which I don't want - can slip, fall out, perforate uterus), oral pill of progesterone (which I do not want - causes weight gain, ugh, and affects breasts, which I've already had problems with), or one doctor was so rude as to say since I'm not using my uterus any more, he said he'd just "yank it out." My uterus should be asleep. It's tired now and wants to shut down, like my ovaries have, I'm told, but because it keeps getting flooded with excess estrogen, it goes, "hello! Let's grow something!" And since it can't "grow a baby," they are concerned it will grow cancer. Valid point. I do not want to have my uterus "yanked out" because it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. I want to fix the estrogen problem without doing things that might cause me to gain more weight (hello?!?) or perforate my uterus and make me have to remove it in the end when that's not what I wanted in the first place. Advice? Please and thank you!

      I guess my question is:
      This video is so very valuable for me but how do I figure out if bioidentical cream IS ok for me, and how much of a dose I need since my Drs won't help. They said, "FDA not approved and no guidelines that say for x weight and height, you take x-dose." I'm scared to just take on my own as I have a lot of health issues, but something needs to happen and I can't just not do anything. How to determine dose and if ok to do? Thanks!

    Hello! I am 42 and have had normal periods through my life. However, 2 years ago they started getting wonky where I would have sometimes 2 cycles in 1 month. My gynecologist did uterine biopsy, Trans vaginal and abdominal ultrasound. Everything was perfect. I was told due to my age that Perimennapause can cause irregular periods. It's going on 3 months now and I haven't had a period at all and am experiencing hot flashes. I respect your knowledge and would like to know what would be the best for me. I have started incorporating 1/2 cups soy nuts daily. I follow a whole food plant based diet as well and have for 12 years now. Thank you so much 🙏

    Now i am often treated the same.

Your information is most the times pointed to those that Have All there lady bits.But I and do many I know Have No Lady bits because we were advised to have full and complete removal because of Endometriosis problems. Such as I had and was in early Menopause at 50 so did so. The affect of balancing with all the hormones is Quite confusing as most info is for others Not in mine/ our situation..
