  • Dell Optiplex lineup is one of the most popular and well known business PC lineup. Adored by offices, school, big business as well as startups.
    I discussed differences between Dell Optiplex 3000 5000 and 7000, in Micro (Tiny ) Small for factor (SFF) and Tower size.
    These PCs come with Intels latest 12th Gen i3, i5, i7 and i9
    I tried a detailed review as well as performance comparison of older PCs like Dell Optiplex 3080.

    Extremely comprehensive and superb technical video 👌👍. Thanks for sharing. I am looking for a refurbed but robust and reliable dell optiplex mini pc. I want following specs
    1) intel i3 8 or 9th gen or more
    2) 8gb ddr 4 ram
    3) Nvme plus as much as sata ports possible -
    4) highest usb 3.0 ports possible
    5) USB type C ports
    6) windows 11 office licenced
    7) rugged build quality
    8) less tdp cpu (low power consumption )
    8) good power supply
    Can you pls suggest suitable model. Offcourse it must be available as second hand, used unit here in india. All I could see is dell 3040 models.
    I think these specs can be found on full desktop model but pls suggest any model in small form factor.
    Thanks again. Keep it up. My best wishes

      Hello,
      Thanks for watching. I don't have much knowledge of Indian market but if its similar to your neighbours like Bangladesh and Pakistan right now then based on your preferences Dell 3040/50, HP G2, Lenovo M700 are good choices. Personally, I would rank HP>Dell>Lenovo for performance.
      At this rate pretty soon markets should be flooded with next gen Dell 3060/HP G4/Lenovo M720Q. These offer a huge performance jump so I would say just wait.
      Although I can't exactly tell how quickly this transition will happen. If you have friends or family visiting UK, it's a good idea to get these from UK market as these are incredibly small and custom won't bother with 2-3 pieces..

      Thanks a lot for quickly replying. 👌👍🙏
      Here all three models are available ( dell micro, mini and sff ) as well as HP elitebook g2/ g3 and thinkcenters. But based on one of my repairer friends suggestions I am preferring dell over lenovo and hp.
      Your video is lot of informative. I think I should prefer Dell 7000 series family. I want to use this pc in my office frontdesk where I want to connect multiple devices like scanner, printer, mobile phone and pen drives so need multiple ports. Also most of the older generations pc's and laptops have M.2 ngff or proprietory ssd slots. These M.2 sata ssd's are not available so I want pc with latest nvme pci express slot and sata ssd slot so I can have enough storage.
      Thanks a lot

      I see, 7000 might be overkill. I sell them for £600 but they are actually £1200 then after customs it can be quite a lot of money. Having said that if you are on unlimited budget then right now 7000 is one of the best you get. The next generation has been released but not mainstream yet.
      With whats available (older models) in your region except for 3040 all of them have Gen 3 x4 M.2 NVMe so no problem there.
      If you want Gen4 x4 then you must buy Dell 5000 or 7000.

      I have a friend in UK, I am checking customs and shipping charges as I want to buy from you. I will prefer optiplex 7050 or similar 5000 series mini pc or vostro if you have ( I need max USB 3.0 ports, Nvme +sata, gen8 cpu support and type C port as basic requirement.) Whichever model you recommend ( I will prefer best build quality, good psu and reliability over performance ). Total quantity is 7 units initially which may increase afterwards.

    I prefer the series 4 optiplexes when most things weren’t proprietary and they were easily upgradeable and fixable. Plus you had 2 5.25 drive bays and a standard ATX motherboard

      I thought like you too, but the Micro's power supply brick are also used on their laptops and cost like under $30usd and can be found anywhere. I agree stay away from their SFF line that uses hard to find and expensive PSU.

    Hello question if i buy my own i7 core and add a custom psu to the optiplex 3000, would it work? Or is it bios restricted?

    Hi, for the micro versions I have heard that the 3000 is much quieter in terms of the fan compared to the 5000, are you able to confirm if this is correct? Thanks.

      Thanks for the confirmation, I just got a 5000 micro and the fan does seem to be more noticeable than previous 3000 series I have experienced which is a shame

    • @mhtechuk1769
      @mhtechuk1769  10 месяцев назад +1

      Put them under stress, 5000 sometimes have slightly louder fans. My guess is that they use higher wattage PSU (90W to 130W) and therefore able to maintain slightly higher clock speeds. 3000 series come with 65W which I think barely enough to have peak performance for long.
      These CPU can maintain much higher TDP than 35W if OS allows.

    • @AP_Guest
      @AP_Guest 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@mhtechuk1769
      Thanks for that information, I assume that the 3000 will still run fast even with the 35W PSU and there won't be a big difference in performance?
      In my opinion I do prefer quieter machines as I find the fan noise a bit annoying so I may end up swapping out my 5000 for the 3000 instead because I don't really need the USB-C port plus the 3000 still has four USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port which is handy as not all monitors have a displayport connection.

    • @mhtechuk1769
      @mhtechuk1769  10 месяцев назад +1

      If you prefer quite machines get 3000, or even Lenovo. Not sure if you noticed but 3000 is much cheaper.
      Having said that, my recommendation would be to try out as may be with your usage it may not get loud anyway.. If you downgrade to 3000 you will not get Gen 4 SSD
