First-time viewer. Seem like the RUclips algorithm recommended this video to me. I love the commentary and how you walk us through the process from untested to tested. Takes me back to when I was repairing and refurbishing systems. It's an art that I'm glad that's alive and well.
A low-profile AMD video card for a Hackintosh option: a WX 4100, which is supported on MacOS Sonoma. Note: the low-profile RX 6400 GPU is not Sonoma compatible. The VisionTek RX 560 is low-profile and Sonoma compatible, but is more expensive: ~$182 on Amazon currently. Intel GPU's also not compatible. A low-profile RX 6600 is mentioned as being available on a Japanese web site. However, it's downclocked from 2400 MHz to 1200 MHz & only 50 W power, to prevent overheating.
Thank you Guy's so much ! I will greatly think of traveling from Ashland Ky to your store someday ! So I can spend the money to help your store plus to help KY !
I feel that you should do something where you invite a couple of people to your office and run a competition where whoever builds the most gaming capable dell optiplex in 1 hour either wins it or you could sell it to that person for an insanely low price
everytime i watch these it makes me want to actually order some parts to finish the 10+ pc's i have sitting in my garage, i have stacks of old parts ive salvaged from throw away ewaste i really should get some finished and make something back on them
I have a Optiplex 3070 that I upgraded the gpu on and used for my first gaming computer and streaming pc for a long time. I just upgraded and built my own pc but the Optiplex treated me good.
They have a whole lot of life left in them. I ran one with a 4th gen i7 as my home server for forever and a day. I referb them any time they come across my desk
I don't envy you having to figure out upgrades for those SFF systems. Having just upgraded two Optiplexes (an i7-7700 and an i7-4790), I could go the rest of my life without having to deal with Dell's greedy proprietary designs. Those weirdly shaped PSUs (even in the mid tower) and motherboard power connectors take things from planned obsolescence to forced e-waste. (I've got an HP that wasn't any better in the non-standard parts usage.) Also, hot swap means you can change it with the power on. The trays you're putting those SSDs in are toolless design.
you can put in a lian li sff psu in those dells ihad a hp sff with a lian li sff power supply 6700k 3x62mm chinese rad and a rx 6600m with waterblock vertically mounted just dremeled a hole in back of the case
The problem with these PCs is the amount of proprietary parts they have. But not only PSUs or connectors, they are also picky with the RAM modules installed. Sometimes "el cheapo" can be "el expensivo".
I'm loving these videos, but I'm wanting to do a budget build for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. It would be helpful if you could just comment on whether or not the will be fine on lower resolution screens.
@@ToastyBros I certainly don't do this on the scale you do, and I had to stop during COVID and get a PT job to make up the income. Often I'll even include a webcam. My sons are both 10, and they are both happy with their 3rd gen i5 Optiplexes and GTX 750 Tis. They won't be much longer, but there is still a market. I love my Lenovo m920s sff 8th gen i7 and I put a rtx 4060 LP in it and RGB in the front panel. Little powerhouse it is. I dremeled the drive bay to fit the GPU.
Yeah, those Lenovo SFFs are seriously tight. To my knowledge, the only cards that could fit within those spaces without any modifications are the GT 1030 and RX 520. Too bad, since by the layout, there's actually enough space for a bulkier LP shroud there, just not for the length. So to fit a longer GPU, the only way is to cut a piece of the drive bay.
could you guys possibly do a dirty cheap end build for ghost of Tsushima type hardware when it releases? Before having two kids and having a ps4 I lived on that game for years, now the little ones are a bit grown and I was thinking of building one again as I used to build them when i was in late teens/early 20's, now 43 :)
A similar system on eBay goes for about 300 to 350 these days... with the reliable refurbish and Toasty Bros warranty, and also the better than average GPU (Most on eBay have a gt 1030 in it) I'd say 369.99 perhaps would be a good place to land.

I keep hearing conflicting views on this, obviously they benefit from Rebar, but they literally showed footage of it running smooth in this video. Could be application specific (trying to run 2024 AAA titles) or the A310 specifically could just be weak enough that it doesn't really need the resources Rebar provides? You'd expect a 10-20% loss of performance anyway running on 10 year old hardware, just as long as it isn't freezing or stuttering. It is actually the RX6400 that eats it in older builds since it only uses 4 PCI lanes, which in PCIe 3 builds is pretty narrow and in PCIe 2 builds (most of these Optiplexes for instance) it is crippled.
I'm a chair guy and the hbada..is missing a crucial gamer feature. COLLAPSIBLE armrests. Also missing massage and heat and cool 😎 🤪 i meaan..for the priceee
nice .. not sure if this is a 9700 or also lower tdp model but the full fat one surely could run a low profile 4060 if the PSU if enough power from the psu is available ( usually you can convert power for the cd drives and hdds etc into power pins for gpu ) and then if the psu has the available wattage. There definitely is enough space for a 2 slot card in these sff optiplexes and a little breathing room too ..

Nope
Most of them don't. We have had some luck with a few but even without it, see the benchmarks at the end, the gaming performance upgrade is worth it
