    About me:
Hi, my name is Theo Mutesa. I was born in Rwanda, but like many Rwandans, my family fled the country in 1994 and we eventually ended up in the Netherlands. That is where I grew up and lived for the past 20 years until 2019. That’s when I moved back to my motherland to follow my dream of opening my own gym and help contribute to the development of Rwanda.
If you would like to support me and/or my business here in Kigali, please donate to my crowdfunding campaign.

What I love about my country is how actually easy it is to get the citizenship. I am born to Rwandan parents in Canada, and applied for citizenship when I went to Rwanda for the 4th time (1st time since I had reached the age of majority). I went to the NIDA (National ID Agency) located in Kimihurura with my parents' Rwandan ID card, my birth certificate and my passport, and was granted the citizenship within 48 hours!! And I had only paid 500 Rwandan francs (less than $0,60 US). Anywayyy, my country rocks big time

Ohh yeah, it's very easy. Especially if you come so well prepared like you did.

    • @annickumutesi1337

Yes so true. As long as you have one parent who is Rwandan, you're automatically allowed to have your citizenship. We also have to say about the free visa if you're a Rwandan diaspora travelling with a foreign passport and a rwandan ID. Even if it's the old one,as long as you can prove your rwandan identity,it's free.

I'm a Kenyan-American design/urban planning student with dual citizenship and am so inspired by Rwanda's development in the last few decades. I want to invest in building/hosting airbnb type spaces and encourage tourism travel to all of East Africa, but especially Kenya and Rwanda. I am doing this with various African American partners to encourage my philosophy of the Back to Africa Movement. I had no idea, through option number 3, citizenship could possibly be an option.

I was born in Canada and am a Canadian citizen; my parents were multi-generational Istanbul Turks. I've commented on another or your videos that you speak to me too and I share your feelings for my ancestral land, and I understand when you speak of Rwanda. I visited Istanbul back in 2015 and developed the fantasy that I would like to purchase a home in one of the northern suburbs on the Bosphorus on the European side and live back in Istanbul as a real Istanbullite. However, the political and social events that have happened in Istanbul and Turkey since then have made me change my mind completely. Coupled with that, the Istanbul that I really "know" is the one my parents left behind in 1957, and that Istanbul is long gone. My point to all of this is and I'm assuming you have Dutch citizenship and a Dutch passport and if so, don't ever give them up. If travelling is still important to you, that Dutch passport will still open doors for you the Rwandan passport will not. My Canadian passport allows me easy entry to so many places worldwide; Europe for example, which my friends with Turkish passports cannot enter without a visa. I understand your feelings towards Rwanda and "fitting in" (believe me I do), but never, never, never lose your Dutch citizenship!

For gay marriages, if you come from a country that allows civil gay marriages, then it is considered in Rwanda. What they care about is the official marriage certificate. As always thanks for great information Theo👌🏾

A question for you sir. It looks like the Netherlands restricts dual nationality. Did you have to give up your Dutch/EU citizenship when you moved to Rwanda full time? Thanks!

No, I fall within the exception category

But it takes long years to get the citizenship.
I'm working on going to Rwanda to study Law and I may stay there.
Can the Presedant give you the citizenship?

Hi Theo. I saw something faulthy on your map. I saw my country Suriname( middle country in the Guyanas on top of Brazil) coloured black meaning dual citizenship is totally prohibited there. That's not true . There are many surinamese people who also got Dutch or American citizenship.

  • @daughterofthe_king_of_king2802

i had just gone through the Rwandan immigration website and they quoted 3 years for a non rwandan married to a rwandan spouse. in your video you said 5 years. can you clarify that?

    • @theoisback

Yes, it has been changed to 5 years as of 2020.
