About me:
Hi, my name is Theo Mutesa. I was born in Rwanda, but like many Rwandans, my family fled the country in 1994 and we eventually ended up in the Netherlands. That is where I grew up and lived for the past 20 years until 2019. That’s when I moved back to my motherland to follow my dream of opening my own gym and help contribute to the development of Rwanda.
If you would like to support me and/or my business here in Kigali, please donate to my crowdfunding campaign.

I love how you do your research to lay the foundation
This video is very informative and shows me a different perspective than other people who vlog about Rwanda. It brings more depth and knowledge about the Rwandan society. I like how the people in the areas outside of Kigali don't really use that much cash because cash has no intrinsic value. If the powers that be deem the value worthless then you can't do anything with it, maybe use it as toilet paper. We should all keep this in mind. Don't depend fully on cash. Go back to basics and try to be self sufficient. Grow your own food, own your own land, harvest energy from the sun, and obtain your own water supply.
indeed, well said
👍🏼 that’s Godly wisdom, this content open my eyes to Rwanda culture and people. I totally understand, can’t wait to get there.
@@theoisback please i really need your help because i want to come to visit rwanda 🇷🇼 please how can I meet u please
Great video, who else is watching this video in 2023? I agree with everything you said as a Rwandan who's been living and working here for the last 10 years, and it is still the case even now. You earned yourself a new subscriber.
I too, am watching this in 2023
Thank you so much for that compilation Theo.
I am a Rwandan living in the USA at the moment, and I agree with those statistics because I worked in Rwanda for 6 years before moving to the USA.
Comparing and contrasting life in the USA and Rwanda has helped me mature, and appreciate what it is like to live in financial scarcity and abundance.
The is so much to learn from both countries, they are both rich and poor in their own ways.

hey theo, first time commenting, but not first time on this channel. i just wanna thank you for everything and being ur authentic self. even from ur videos i could see u re a good guy, plain, easy. hopefully one day, i meet you. bless u brother
I appreciate that! thank you for your comment
I can't wait to visit
Well done, thank you.
I was especially curious about people in the tourist business, the people I'd be interacting with.
Thanks Theo for your excellent, well researched breakdown on the subject matter. I have subscribed as I've seen lots of your other wonderful videos and continue to learn from them/you. You deserve a lot of respect and kudos for what you are doing. I hope that you are still safe and hopefully your gym business can survive this pandemic. It really is a phenomenal sacrifice to up-root from a stable "normal" job in Europe and do what you are doing so I truly wish you all the success in Rwanda. If our plans over the next year or so come to fruition then I'd love to meet you in Kigali for a chat. I'm an Athletics coach and its one of the things that I would like to perhaps pursue in Rwanda (lekker, lekker !).
thank you.
I hope to make it to that level as well 🙏🏾
Excellent very well done. Thank you
Glad you liked it!

You are a fantastic guy, thank you for this informative and well organized summary! Hope now the business goes better. Is there a community, a website, group etc. for business possibilities in Rwanda?
Great assessment. Coming from accounting I have seen local salaries etc and can fully support your research and presentation. Of course there are always exceptions as well.

This is great.. very eye opening ...makes me wonder how people can afford the rents I see on other RUclips real estate videos
They just absolutely can't!! It is not made for rwandans.. 😕
My thoughts precisely, but I understand the logic behind such pricing.
The housing I've seen marketed online in Kigali, is even more expensive than housing in the Diaspora. However, one has to keep in mind, when considering relocation, the cost of housing in Rwanda, in relations to what we're used to paying in the diaspora, includes lifestyle upgrade, security, accessibility, proximity, opulence, and more.
So in essence, when you rent a thousand dollar home in Kigali, you're not only paying for a place to sleep and simply call home; rather, you're paying for a lifestyle of 'Status, Dominance and Affiliation.' If this is not what one is after, you can certainly find much cheaper accommodations, if your 'ego' allows it 😉 😅👏🏿
those houses are generally unfordable for the majority of Rwandans
well said ❤️❤️❤️
Correct - those real estate videos are unrealistic :)
Thank you
You're welcome
Yes it looks so good👍🌈
Such valuable information. Thank you, very much. Your content is informative and well appreciated for someone such as me; I'm looking to invest in Rwanda by opening a service-based business in the following year, God willing. I currently live in North America, and I am conducting my own research on what to expect, economically, once I'm in Rwanda. This video was helpful as it gave me perspective from within.
As far as the wealth aggregating metrics is concerned, I applaud the government of Rwanda for implementing such a simple, but worthy system. It is good for the people, it is good for businesses, both national and foreign investments. It truly is valuable market research.
oohh nice.
good luck the work ahead, exciting times
Thanks for sharing. Very necessary when you talk about the repatriation diaspora.
Appreciate
Lol! Great video! Theo, I'll be visiting Rwanda next week for two weeks. I'll be coming in from the virgin islands. Any opportunity to meet up? Love the channel!
V.I Massive!!! 🇻🇮
sure , im available
Nice video
Thanks!
Great video, that part in the beginning is very insightful. I'm a big fan of your process for getting the information, cost of living videos in general are decent but going mentioning UBUDEHE and the informal economy side of Rwanda is something that I doubt others have done and it's information that for someone else could be very difficult to find out.
I'm reading a book called Seeing Like A State by James Scott right now that talks about this process of the state formalizing all that information that we (in western/"first world" countries) basically have interiorized and assume default, like names, land divisions and land registry, or currency, but that pre- big state centralization attempts in the modern age (1700s onwards) weren't as universal as they are now, and it does mention how there's this vision that he calls "High modernism" that wants to make everything legible (in order to collect taxes, basically, but also because of this vision of scientific order) that collides with the inherent illegibility that is rural/premodern society, where agreements such as the ones you mention are much more common. For example, working land and getting paid in food, but also other types of agreements such as co-ownership of land by several families that coordinate in exploitation based on rules that they know, like seasonal or based on natural parameters, but that cannot be reflected in systems such as "land registries". And these kinds of agreements, and this illegibility have been lost , and they were systems that worked well for those inside, but high modernist visions/urbanization and in some countries (like Rwanda), colonization imposed by force other foreign systems that are legible and work scientifically for the purposes of the state, but that don't capture how they were previously organized, leaving gaps in society
ooh wow, thank you for your comment. That sounds like an interesting read.
Cool video bro
Request to make a full detailed video on taxes in Ruwanda
Kind regards
Sure 👍 I will think about it
well done theo, this is really good information, can you please do a video on income tax, how the government tax working forks especially people from the diaspora who have registered a business or a company in the country?
Sure, I will look into it
Very valuable information based on facts. Other diasporans are telling just a part of the story!
@Theo, Love The Channel Bruh, I love Seeing The MotherLand, Mother Africa & Look Forward to coming there one day & Meet My African Brothers & Sisters Ya Dig? 100

Dang, I'm poor in America but I would be well off in Rwanda. I make about $3000 a month in the US which is dirt water mud poor in America.
Thank you for great video you should tell the people what kind of business can we do in rwanda I am living in England but originally from Turkey thank you for videos man 🙏
you can do anything you want
@@theoisback good answer lol
One thing I dont understand is how can someone have no land at all in they own country ? I Bealive we can do better than that and make this social ecomonic balance fiarly ,cz come on live in Rwanda with 65k per month is basically living with nothing. And I dont bealive that living here is cheap at all for the range of wage Im seeing now. But we still have a long way to go,and the leadership it's going well,so we can make it better with continuous hard work and adjustment.Great ved again. Thanks!
Hi Theo, I would like to meet you when I visit Rwanda. We are still not allowed to leave Australia at the moment but hopefully it wont be long before we can travel freely. Cheers mate.
ooh really. yes, you are welcome
Great content Mr Theo👍👍👍
thank you
Thank you very detailed. I’m watching this in June 2023. How are things going for you more with your gym? Have you or would you consider taking on a partner?
Hi Theo, your info is always on point, thank you so so much.We are planning to visit early next year. Could you get some info on shipping ( all categories, vehicle (all types) house hold stuff etc ) just in case we decide to retire in Rwanda. Thank you in advance. Am learning the language, you are a very good teacher.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 🇯🇲/USA semi retired nurse. We can’t wait to meet with you for counseling.
Why would you ship all that stuff to retire in Rwanda? go and visit and see for yourself. All you need is your car but if you can afford to buy another locally it is even better although a bit more expensive. Also, make sure you OWN your home when you move to Rwanda with a small land for your own food. You will save a ton.
@@lydian5762 do you have a you tube channel?? Because your info is fire and on point! Thanks a million 💖👍
