About me:
Hi, my name is Theo Mutesa. I was born in Rwanda, but like many Rwandans, my family fled the country in 1994 and we eventually ended up in the Netherlands. That is where I grew up and lived for the past 20 years until 2019. That’s when I moved back to my motherland to follow my dream of opening my own gym and help contribute to the development of Rwanda.
If you would like to support me and/or my business here in Kigali, please donate to my crowdfunding campaign.

You are not alone Theo. Moved to Rwanda from the UK and can't complain! I will be 2 years in Rwanda also this May.
aah nice to hear.
I like the genuineness of your character and so interested in Rwanda..Greetings from Russia .Just keep it up .
Thanks for watching from Russia
In comparison to other You Tuber's evaluation of Rwanda. Your assessment/opinion is fair and balanced. People can respect that.
thanks
I am from Brazil and have no relations to Rwanda, but I would LOVE to go there and I LOVE Paul Kagame. One day I will be there working out in your gym :).
yeah, looking forward to that day
You are welcome brother
Great observation about people not totally keeping it real with Rwanda. Base on all that is going on and after visiting Dar Ex Salamm and Zanzibar, my wife would rather move to Tanzania. The tax thing is huge, but we want to help either way by supporting the government and local businesses.
@@adamkofi5683 Yes, dangerous for those who are corrupt, have genocide ideologies, those who wish bad for Rwanda,...
If you're one of them, you'll for sure be in trouble with him.
@@adamkofi5683 Well, we see where you're coming from. Good luck.
I want to be surrounded by trees and vegetation and land to crop my own food. I plan on being 100% independent from money. We have to teach our people agriculture so we can thrive during situations such as covid. If one can produce his own food, know how to filter water, and build structural stable housing then they are rich in knowledge that should be taught and passed down to the youth. We have to start a circuit of practical survival trades over the western mindset. I do not want Rwanda or African nations to be anything like the west in modernization. We must learn to create our own success with nature. Personally, I like the Tanzania model of not closing down their businesses. Unfortunately, now that Dr. Magufuli has gone to the great beyond, I hope the essence and groundwork that he laid out for his people to maintain freedom and independence thrive forward.
Much respect from Morocco, I hope the best for Rwanda and I wish all immigrants in developped countries from Rwanda will be back to build their own country.
I hope so too 💪🏾🇷🇼

I think we should support the made in Rwanda products. When I moved, I could preferred made in Rwanda to promote the economy. This is better if you want a great Rwanda

Good info. My brother.
Your African American brother here👍🏿
Thanks for watching brother
Thanks for the info Theo. But Kigali was FIRE before COVID lol Btw the part in the ppoooooool 👀🥰🥰
hahah reallyy
When did happen i never had that
No.14 is a harsh reality
Many still argue that there’s a big difference between clean-well organized city infrastructure and the actual living standards in terms of income per-capita.....but all in all, may we realize that fantasy of the most developed African country
Thank you for this video I really appreciate your honesty which completely contradicts the narrative that’s being put out there. The truth has not put me off coming instead it’s made me better prepared. A lot of the videos coming out regarding Rwanda makes it out to be Africa’s Dubai which clearly it may become but just not yet. another thing you mentioned which I was so happy you touched on was the after effects of the genocide on the youth for something so horrific to be pushed under the table and to says it’s be dealt with just like that, which a lot of RUclipsrs have commented on is extraordinary. I still believe Rwanda is a beautiful country but your video has made the country more real instead of surreal you have a new subscriber and I look forward to following more videos. This is a job well done now I have a better understanding of the country still a lot to learn but along with that comes empathy and realistic expectations.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Indeed, my content is meant to share information for people to be well informed and make their own plans.
@@tyronewatanabe6724 your loss it’s a beautiful country
@@tyronewatanabe6724 playing who or what. I meant everything I said. Rwanda is a beautiful country but from where it has come to where it is today is amazing. I have been drawn to Rwanda for sometime but something did not feel authentic about the narrative considering it’s history this man has made Rwanda more interesting by being authentic. The information he has given makes Rwanda more African and not because it has problems but it fits better into the narrative. Rwanda is rising like the rest of Africa it has problems but they will eventually be fixed.
Great video. Heavy rain like those aren’t often though, But It is bad in rural due to poor housing and weak infrastructure
Yeah Very true
@@theoisback im from Guine Bissau, live in Germany before in Amsterdam are you from Ruanda?
Well, you finished with a bang! That #14
yegooo
Alles goed Theo ...
jah zeker. met jou?
Ok dit heeft geholpen. Dankjewel
graag gedaan
I spent most of my life as the poorest of America- so poor I could not even afford to leave. Now that I see your chart on Rwanda I wish I knew years ago that I would have been able to live a decent life on the income I have. I hope to visit the country one day I have read so much about it and I have admiration for President Kagame and what I feel is his earnest efforts to help his country.
Admire him but don’t show political interest or openly criticize/challenge his ways....
Am waiting for a bold Blogger to do a video about what happens when you try to act/speak like a Democrat🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️
When I come back I need to look for you to break down good practices of Kigali!
A few things here are a bit misinterpreted!
yeah, no problem.
5:09 I didn't understand what you were discussing. Did you say 'staring' ? Thank you for the video.
Yes, "The staring in the streets... it never stops"
Glad you liked it :)
@@theoisback Oh Wow! Now see I am have been an expat in Asian for the last 6 years. I had hoped that if I visited Africa I could blend in and the staring would be non-existent. That is the hardest part of being a tourist or visitor in another country is being made to feel like an foreigner or that I don't fit in. ) . ;
@@SEdwards1000 Yes I feel you. However, there is no bad intent with the staring. It's just curiosity to strangers :)
Good podcast.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great information! What are the areas in Rwanda that are affected by floods?
usually areas that are down near valleys
Just returned from a Rwandan pilgrimage to see The Our Lady of Kibeho shrine. Very clean country, everything seems to be efficient. I liked your succinct presentation, but I wish you had been more expansive on some of the topics, eg, the impact of the genocide on the young people today...
Hi theo i am an African living in Sweden but not from Rwanda but love your videos thanks really for showing us the real side of Rwanda i hope to visit there one day cause i love Rwanda
aah you are welcome. see you in Rwanda someday
I love your passion Theo.
You inspire me a lot.
I would like to meet you when I come to Rwanda.
Secondly, I have passion for education. How easy is it to start a school in Rwanda?
Thank you.
Well, starting a school and teaching are two different things. But it's very well possible here.
Hey Theo, I’m your new subscriber, I’m an American and I live in Pennsylvania, can you please tell me what the popular of Kigali?
Hi, welcome. the popular of what?
Pole for the gym dude. I used to follow. wondered whahappn
yeah. it's too bad
I am moving soon too and I didn’t know for the taxes or the staring and how bad the weather was 😨BUT I want to come anyway thank you so much
You got this! You will be fine
Rwanda 🇷🇼 has one of the most beautiful whether in Africa. I am from Gabon and is very very hot 🔥 sunny whether. While in Rwanda is a genuine beautiful cool fresh whether like Mexico city kind of whether 24 degrees to 29 is really beautiful for me. In general East Africa have great wonderful weather compared to west Africa. Glorious weather sunshine ☀ year around.
Weather wise it is not that bad. Actually Rwanda enjoys one of the best climate in the world.. Rarely above 28 degrees and below 18 degree.. Welcome to Rwanda
@@bong2020able I was talking about the rain but I enjoy the rain 🙂it’s better under 24degrees than 2 degrees 😅
I’m quite sure you will have a different opinion when you get there... for all I can say is there is nothing to be worried about Rwanda’s weather specifically rain. It happens on rare occasions just like any other calamity.
I watched this ur video because of the president of Rwanda 🇷🇼 Paul Kagame... I love him soo much... Love from Ghana 🇬🇭....
The staring Bruv!!! The staring is the one thing I cannot get over with.
Not an issue..as opposed to Europeans, Africans have no problem staring in general when they see something or someone unusual to them not only in Rwanda.
yeah, i'm still trying to get used to it 😅
believe it or not, i suffered the same in Austria and Germany. I got out because of the staring and racism. They dont blink the whole time.
As as an African of Togolese and Congolese descent I am super proud of what Paul Kagame has accomplished for his countrymen.
yeahh, thanks
As an Burundian Tutsi I would urge you to order and read the book "Do not disturb" by Michela Wrong. The only problem with leader of the army Kagame is the economy. It is based completely on the illegal import of Congolese natural resources, obtained by his militias in the East of Congo. Once that flow is halted, Kagame cannot remain in power as he is too dependent on the export of illegally obtained goods.
The fact that he is a Tutsi leader fits within the historical political frame, but let's not forget that the Tutsi only are 15% of the countries population. Against a 85% Hutu population. And that the Tutsi minority reign was the main reason for the genocide. Although the Hutus still remain a poor majority without branded leaders (they still are 'disappearing' in Rwanda) within the countries borders, they have a lot of foreign back-up from runaway leaders in exile.
And there still is the Interrahamwe (mainly located in Congo) and even some remnants of the Impuzamugambi roaming the border areas. As soon as Kagames grip on the economy loosens, which is likely if the Congolese make a push (this event should be more than likely if Kabila gets his third term as 'president' of the RDC) in the East, the Hutu militias will once again march to Kigali.
Even when Kigali becomes an African major player, the ethnic inequities and the oppressing reign of Kagame will lead to once again a major bloodbath. This can only be prevented by Kagame himself, if he would make way for some political opponents. Which he isn't likely to do. read yoruself up on Seif Bamporiki, Patrick Karegeya, the singer Kizito Mihigo, and many more. They are all dead.
You are right my guy the Rwanda we know on internet is 100%different from the real Rwanda .most of Rwandans are starving
Hello Theo do you live in Rwanda currently or Europe?
Can you say how long it took to get your gym equipment shipped and what company you used? How port did it go to and how did you get it to Rwanda? I know that's a lot of questions, but some people need shipping information. Thanks.
It's a lot of information indeed. Book a consulting session, and I will gladly share everything in detail.
My dad is from Rwanda and my mum from Uganda but I desire coming and settling in rwanda how I dont know
i really love your dedication I want to be fit as well hopefully I can join your gym as well , anyway just became vegan recently do u please know where i can get plant-based milk and other products
aah welcome to the club. Plant based milks can be found in simba and other supermarkets easily

Mr. T, nicely done!!! I plan to visit Rwanda 2022 and! with plans to move to Kigali sometime in the near future. 1. Would you recommend any other city besides kigali?
2. Any worries for security issues for foreigners?
Ty!!

1: I would recommend Musanze or Karongi.
2: No security issues here :)
Just like saying things i didnt know before moving to Europe, The cold wheather, Racism, gun violence, working really hard like 3 jobs to survive to mention but a few.
Exactly
yeah, you should make a video of that.
Which european country are you living in ?

and im not Rwandan but i will make a good wife with a happy live out there insha Allah

Thank you for your honest feedback. I am definitely looking to relocate to Rwanda from the United States. I was curious to know if you can go into more depth with respect to your opinion that Rwanda will not become a first world country anytime soon. Thank you, and I look forward to visiting your country very soon!
There still many steps ahead. For example, the majority population of Rwandans are not keeping up with the fast technological improvements that are ahead.
Your content is amazing! I was wondering if you could make a video concentrated on banking in Rwanda as a foreigner and for Rwandan people. You are a MAJOR inspiration for me
thank you for the video idea, I will look into it.
I really like your humble opinion about what means rich, and who is poor. I am a german, growing up in Norway, beeing poor my self here. But for others I would definitely be rich. My German family think that I am rich although I rarely can eat two or three meals in Norway since everything is so expensive. I did live together with a guy from Etiopia and one from Mauritania here in Norway, so what they told me is that in their countries once a person get rich, he have security and hanging Gold necklaces around them, distancing themselves from poor people. I think I am lucky growing up in a humble enviroment where also rich people don't show their riches and stay pretty normal. I don't think northern European lifestyle is the best, it definitely have negative sites too, but this humbleness is very important I think. Nobody benefits if someone show how better and wealthier they are from others.
Hi man, I have a question, I know it's supposed to be gone but informally is the "distinction" between hutu and tutsi still present in rwanda in some forms ? Or is it totally gone ? If present how does it looks like ? Thanks.
it's totally gone, and actually illegal to make that distinction, unless you are talking it in past terms/history .
@@adamkofi5683 are you a rwandan living in rwanda ?
@@adamkofi5683 true, if it's illegal he won't say what's forbidden. So you are rwandan not living in Rwanda, are you a hutu ? Why are you scared ? Do you have something to do with the genocide ? How old are you ?
@@adamkofi5683 if you don't live there how do you know it's "well and truly alive" ? How do you think it manifests itself, is it by the way people look physically ? Are they noticing and differentiating using people's physical features like face and other things ?
Great information Theo!
Glad you think so!
@@theoisback I too hope to visit Rwanda again when there's no lockdown this time. Would love to visit your gym and get some personal training too. Your story is awesome! Great job going plant based. My family and I are about 75% plant based. Rwanda is a great place for vegans it seems. Lots of great fruits and vegetables
@@hesire6893 yes, its easy eating plant based here
Thank you for this! In your opinion, are people accepting of foreigners (other Africans) moving there?
