  • The school resource officer accused of failing to confront the Parkland shooter who killed 17 people faces trial. Scot Peterson is charged with seven counts of child neglect and three counts of culpable negligence for the 10 victims killed by the shooter on the third floor of Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School on Valentine’s Day in February 2018. The Law&Crime Network’s Jesse Weber discusses the upcoming trial with Peterson’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh.

This Officer dedicates his entire life and may have to forfeit his career over something OUT of his control. I'm conflicted on this... Sitting from the safety of my armchair, it would be very easy to claim I'd be a hero and run inside a building into a haze of bullets from a high powered long rifle. However, the truth of the matter is, that I have absolutely no idea how brave I would have been and whether I'd have had the sheer level of courage required to enter a building and stop a deranged mass shooter with a high powered rifle against my simple 5 chamber Smith and Wesson revolver that I've likely never even practiced using at the local gun range much less in a deadly active shooter scenario. So are we charging people for cowardice? That is the question I guess, as no amount of training can predict exactly how a human being is going to react in the actual moment. Very shaky legal grounds for sure.

  • @Alfa-mb5es
    @Alfa-mb5es 10 месяцев назад

    Having listened to this, I'm impressed by this lawyer. The facts presented by him and the trial paint a very different picture to the knee jerk reaction after the shooting.
    The fact that footage shows kids on the 3rd floor of the building could not even hear shots on the 1st and 2nd floor is very telling that it was near impossible to tell where the shots came from and that entering the buildings would have done no good.
    The radio transmissions also show he didnt know where the shots were coming from. He was clearly giving his location, not the location of the shooting - as cops are typically trained to do. They report theyve heard shots, and then report their location so responding officers know where the first cop is and that its the vicinity of the incident.
    The amount of witnesses with wildly different testimony as to where they believed the shots were coming from also proves how difficult it was to place the shooters location.
    Very glad the jury came to the correct verdict on this, and its clear they deliberated thoroughly on it. The Sheriff tried to use Peterson as a scapegoat to save himself, and it shows.
    I feel very sorry for Peterson, but I'm very glad he was found not guilty.

It is by far the largest school in our whole city and it has a very unique layout. I went there everyday and I still was confused sometimes what building is where, which room is in what what building, etc. and right next door is a middle school too then to make matter worse, there is a highway overpass. Directly next to the school. On top of how big and open the school is, they also built more since I graduated. The building the students were killed in is a newer building. His only guilt would be having to live with this, all this other stuff was unnecessary.

      ..it is useless for anyone to know where he himself is at. *It has no logic.* It would just create _unnecessary confusion_ in locating the shooter!
      Peterson radioes “possible shots fired, 1200 building.” Cut-and-dry to me.
      40 secs later he repeats the same thing “WE ARE TALKING of the 122 building! IT’S GOING TO BE [future tense] the building off of Hornburg Road.” *Why on earth now does he need to repeat his location* [uselessly] *twice* ??
      ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. Petersen & his lawyer are very obviously lying to us here.
      Furthermore if he thinks shots are coming from the field then why doesn’t he go to the football field? He’d probably have seen it completely open and no one there!
