Highlander is for people that like to main spy and sniper full time. 6s is for fast paced gameplay. A lot of newer players and casual people hate 6s cause they can’t play the way they usually would. The point of competitive is to be as competitive and try hard as possible. The basis of 6s is to be fast and engaging and to set the skill ceiling as high as possible. A lot of people forget about HL and hate on 6s cause there’s no spy gaming XD
I never liked 6v6 because it is very different from the casual game, in other games casual and competitive are almost the same, there is almost no variety of maps and modes, that's why I prefer higlander because it is much more similar to casual and gives you much more freedom
When people hear the term 6's, they ONLY think of the number and not the format, mostly due to the terrible implication of Valve Competitive. People often fall under the notion that the game is a rock-paper-scissor style game where certain classes counter another, which is implied by the use of the "specialist" classes in Casual. I feel like it would be a lot more easy to gear people into formats if we view the general base of TF2 being a "Sandbox FPS", where people choose what they want to play with the classes and weapons they want in a format and game mode they want, rather than the mosh-pit that is Casual TF2. 6's isn't the only format, nor is Highlander, people just need to find their niche doing what they want instead of leaving it to a matchmaking system to put people with different interests in the same game where they shouldn't belong. Thanks for listening to my disorganized rant.
The only thing 6s needs is a timer change. 10 minutes to capture one point in a format that moves as fast as 6s is far too generous imo. I think if the timer was lowered to 7 minutes it would preserve the stalemate-breaking aspect of 6s while cutting down on the larger stalemates. Of course, I say this as a spectator, not a competitor. I could be totally off when it comes to actual match strategy. Edit: typo
You're on the right track, with incentivization. The way that Trad 6s remedies stalemates is by having a 30 minute game timer alongside the round timer. Incentivizes the losing team to initiate plays and the winning team to hold.
I want to get into competitive 6s, but i'm kinda afraid of two problems: 1. I think my English knowledge is pretty good, but when it comes to live communication i'm lost for words and suddenly my vocabulary just disappear from the face of the world. I know that i could join a team of my comrades, but it's kinda pain in the ass to find one, majority of teams speaks on English. 2. I'm afraid that learning callouts, rollouts, practicing with team and playing scrims, pugs, mge and matches would take a big chunk of my time that i don't have much to begin with. But i'm so tired of casual and it's ovepowered weapons like short circuit or vaccinator, bots, randomness and sniper dominance, so i'm on a crossroad
I'm glad you do! But Valve Competitive is not Traditional 6s. The equivalent of Valve competitive in a league format would be Non-Restricted 6s in RGL, which features no weapon bans or class restrictions. If you look at the map pool for that format on RGL, you'll notice more map variety, such as more payload maps. Some could argue that that is because the league is trying to vary the map pool, but I believe the reason why they included payload would be because offclasses, now more powerful with no weapon bans, play significantly much better on Attack/Defense modes compared to 5cp. if you check out this rgl nr6's INVITE (aka professionals) finals match: (ruclips.net/video/TrwE_2MI_w8/видео.html ), the maps chosen are Koth viaduct and payload upward, much better fits for Engineer, Heavy, and Sniper, which are more prominent in this match! Stay tuned for a future video on how valve could fix valve comp where i take this topic a bit farther!
Nice video! You should really try to not blur the screen for such long periods of time tho, since it can make the video a bit hard to focus on (absolutely no pun intended)
Really, the whole intentionally keeping off classes in the offclass role is why I really believe valve shouldn't be balancing the game around competitive. Most of the op weapons won't get unbanned until they are weak enough to never be used anyway. So all it results in is that, instead of being weak in 6s and viable elsewhere, now classes like pyro, spy, and heavy, are weak in every gamemode, when they used to have options that let them compete with the community-chosen generalists (puffn'sting, ambie, GRU). If something is deemed anti-competitive, but is important for a classes viability, comp can always just ban it. On the flip side, casual folk have no way to evade strategies that are broken in casual, but fine in competitive. These include kritz+battalion's backup, uberphlog, and engiestacking(even without the wrangler). I think that in the 2015-2017 timeframe, valve falsely believed that weapon bans were being done purely because the strength of the weapons were too high, without any regard to whether their design is fun or not, and based their decisions around this faulty assumption. There are also many MANY casual players who also have this assumption. They are often quite confused, and pass along their uninformed beliefs on how comp tf2 works.
this video succeeded in making me feel like the 6s meta is completely self referential and incoherent. Every decision for the balancing of 6s basically boils down to "because we like it that way and we domt want the other classes to be good." its a shame thats how meet your match decided to release.
Honestly that ending surprised me. The rest of the video seemed to be showing how traditional 6's is a format where off classes are unviable because the community implemented a bunch of arbitrary weapon bans
I wouldn't say arbitrary as the reason to why the weapon bans exist. It's because those weapons usually are very frustrating to fight against or cause the game to slow down alot.
this is the reason why i don;t like 6s, it focuses too much on 4 classes and one type of meta with a lot of weapon restrictions i don't how people like it it seems like a bread eating contest whoever eats the bread fastest wins, you aren't enjoying eatig bread anymore you are just gulping that bread like a total moron, at least in highlander and prolander there is a lot more stuff avaible to you sorry to disapoint you but 6s is just a boring ass gamemode
Understandable, it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm sure that the strategy and diverseness of Highlander and Prolander is much more appealing to the average tf2 fan. Be that as it may, I will have to highly disagree with you that 6s is boring. Trad 6's is the most fast paced, skill-focused, and intense competitive format TF2 has to offer. There is no greater feeling than the intensity of a well executed push, a destructive bomb, or just even the freedom of movement and combat, something you don't generally get with prolander and highlander because of slow and anti-movement classes like heavy, pyro, engie, and sniper. Soldier, Scout, and Demo provide some of the deepest mechanics of all of gaming, are extremely flexible and maximize the fun out of getting better at them. Also, you aren't restricted to those 4 classes. Both scouts and soldiers have the ability to switch to an offclass when the time calls for it, like defending last or changing tides with a critical pick (via sniper and spy). TF2Center is the only big competitive venue that i can think of that restricts these offclasses. Sure, the meta has stayed the same, but you can't attribute it to the mode itself, there legit has been no update for the past 4 years. And let me tell you, i thank the stars for every weapon ban there is in 6s, because if in a match I had to meet a Disciplinary action whipped Natascha heavy on mid, with rocket/bullet resistance from a vaccinator, with fists of steel, I'd probably never touch 6s.
It's always hilarious that pubbers who don't know shit about 6s or even TF2 who are always the loudest whiners. Nobody is stopping you from running your favourite class, pyro, in 6s. In fact, pyro has less weapon bans than any other class in 6s and you could run two pyros. Prepare to get absolutely destroyed by demos and people eventually offclassing as heavy, though. And imagine comparing 6s to highlander lmao. Highlander is literally cancer if you don't play sniper. Literally all my heavy, pyro, and engie main friends preferred 6s after playing for a while. Nobody I know who plays highlander genuinely enjoys that shit gamemode other than sniper and spy mains. Imagine thinking a sniper 1v1 with 16 useless side characters is a fun mode. Also imagine that you're literally class restricted to one class the whole game, so you can't even switch classes in a class-based shooter (lol) And you're acting like 6s players don't know how to play sniper, heavy, or engineer when chances are they'll absolutely destroy you on those classes. I've destroyed my fair share of overconfident casual sniper pubstompers and I'm a medic main.

Nice insight dude. Sandbox fps might just be my favorite new term. That was an amazing rant!
3:22 oh boy I felt that disappointment
6:27 great use of random crit clip right there
Of course, you gotta flex those random crits when you can!
my man you're generally underrated. you're vids are currently helping me get into comp.

this comment aged extremely well. not being sarcastic at all b4nny config has honestly been way better for the game
Objective: play 6s
Obstacle: Finding a local 6s lobbys
this video made me want to play tf2 again

have u tried it yet?
asparagus
To be fair I actually really enjoy 6s payload on valve comp just wished valve gave reason to people why should play competitive matchmaking

I kinda agree with the casual guy ngl
Nice video! You should really try to not blur the screen for such long periods of time tho, since it can make the video a bit hard to focus on (absolutely no pun intended)
I was trying to put focus on the graphics on the front. I did wonder if the blurred gameplay would be distracting. Thank you for the feedback!

Terrible take that makes it so obvious you've basically never tried 6s and are just repeating the opinions of others.
