engineer gaming!
my teammates pc's the picosecond we start a push:
rip Windows 7 Steam.
Yeah, can’t believe they patched it so late though lol
@@8-BitHacker You can still patch it to still work but TF2 won't launch and most games won't have cloud saves or workshop working.
i got it working
@@8-BitHacker it still works if you install an older version of steam. there is a github page somewhere on the internet that explains everything
@@Marzsala it all still works for me
i don't know why
I first played TF2 on an old Dell laptop. I remember my first quickplay game was on Suijin - I played engineer, but had a solid 1-2 FPS so I just built a nest outside spawn.
That why so many engineer build sentry outside spawn they have 10 fps but still enjoy the game
29:05 That medics hat is probably worth more than the pc
LMAO
Finally.
TF2 for N64.
Is it concerning that this is almost exactly how my laptop runs?
Pyro was designed for PCs like that
This should be a new form of challenge. Trying to intentionally play games on the WORST settings possible and on the worst hardware possible.
Almost like how with some emulators you can watch Shrek on a goddamn gameboy
Ese es mi dia a dia
To think that I used to play on somewhat similar specs such as this is wild. I forgot the CPU I had but I for sure remember that I had a Nvidia Geforce GTX 240 and 4 gigs of RAM.
Not wild at all. The system requirements went up because of all the unoptimized hats and maps, and the player count went from 24 players max to 32
Game used to look and run way better
@@Megasaphire i miss playing for the first time on my first laptop. 20fps and couldn’t be happier
@@humanharddrive1 I think masterconfig have an option to disable all hats, with that it can probably running more smoothly
@@all4ornoth1ng75 you're right, sadly the game file size ballooned because of all the hats and seasonal maps so much that it's not even funny anymore
Ultrakill fans trying to play tf2:
+ NICE SHOOTIN', TEX
Nah needs fewer polygons
ultrakill runs slower than tf2 on my pc :(
You can play the game with lower settings, someone on youtube made a video with the lowest graphics possible to the point it's barebones. Like you leave just the geometry and players, in theory with this, it could work on a older machine!
How come you didn't crank down the renderer to dx8? You can probably get up to 20 FPS. I'd love to see a vid of that as a sequel to this one lol.

if you're wondering: the latest Steam release uses a version of Chromium Embedded Framework that is not compatible with Windows 7/8.x, which is why the UI refuses to display

Looks like they removed the -no-browser option last year as well... God I hate how many programs just run ontop of web browsers nowadays, this is so dumb.
I tried on my grandfather's toshiba laptop from 2006.
Celeron 900, gma 4500g and 2gb ddr2 i think.
Since windows 7 steam is dead, i tried on bodhi linux, with the ultra low mastercomfig at 640x400.
It ran very similar to yours, i played many matches and ended up first in a doublecross, so it can be done.
I still feel like the PC I ran TF2 on back in the day was worse.
yeah it ran on better architecture and an extra gig of ram (instead of your 1, there were 2) and ran windows vista back when it was still supported.
although maybe I'm just getting things wrong and you're talking about the CURRENT worst PC that could still hypothetically run TF2
Yeah, The current worst was what I was aiming for. I bet in 2007 this pc would’ve been able to run TF2 pretty well
@@8-BitHacker I'm just fondly remembering my PC screaming as I boot up TF2 for the 800th time.
(The specs of that PC was something like Celeron 420 or 450, 2GB of DDR2 ram, NO gpu, and a mechanical hard drive that probably wanted death every second.) That dell inspiron had an option for a gpu, but uh...
we got the low end one.
i've actually had almost this exact same configuration as a kid, worse times
the type of pc spy mains with a 4090 think they have
The music getting louder as the panel comes off is a great joke.
this is how the oldschool kids played tf2 back in the day
still better than my pc 😢
That's how my game looked back when I played in 2015, except I had a lot of screen tearing too. Can't believe I played 1500hrs on that shit before upgrading.
sick and funny video man! keep the work up. Merry Chrismas
I used to run TF2 on an I3-2130 and ATI HD 5670 with 4GB RAM. It ran butter smooth on mostly max settings. I bet that same build wouldn't even get 35FPS today, and the game looks worse even.
reminds me of when i tried running this on a Pentium back when i knew nothing about computers. i got a slideshow experience.
edit: actually now that i’ve watched this video more, it reminds me of trying to get that same pentium rig running like a decade later after the tf2 memory. i got windows vista up and running with a bunch of drivers i transferred via sneaker net, and then i tried installing windows 10 which unrecoverabley broke the os. i still plan to fix it up as an XP rig.
I first played on my brothers Chromebook for school 💀
Man's from the future got that geforce 6200 while im stuck with a 40 series
I had that too but integrated graphics form on my first own PC from 2006 lol.
@@Killersnake432 brother the joke that he has a rtx 40 series, while the 8 bit hacker has a geforce 6200
@@RiveryJerald Yes I know it is...
That is ane of the most druaga1 intros i he ever-seen
To think my first laptop used to run the game like that at similar settings
If you use Mesa LLVM pipe for windows, you should be able to use an even worse video card since Mesa LLVM renders opengl on the cpu instead of the graphics card itself.
Then you use WineD3D for windows to convert dx9 to opengl so the Mesa LLVM pipe can render the game on the cpu. All you need is the most basic display adapter you can find.
Try a really old cirrus logical card from the 90's...
Happy holidays everyone
I remember playing TF2 on a 2.4ghz Celeron D system with an 8400gs. It was truly awful.
@@DragonsIayer182 Ive got a 1.1GHz Celeron (?) and it's awful to play even 2fort hahaha
I literally cannot fathom how he got it running on THIS, yet I can barely run it on my laptop
If running TF2 on the worst PC is possible, then you must run! Bill Gates said that, and I'd say he knows a little more about running on the worst PC than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor.
Then, he used his computer money to buy two of every PC on earth, and then he brought them onto a boat and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a LAN party!
Unless it's a server farm!
Love the video. Nice audio work and its overall great work. Keep it up!
Tener 4gb de ram DDR2 es impresionante, buen video. Mis respetos
tu eres el sujeto?
MF I have not seen a Kingston SSD in YEARS. Holy FUCK.
Bro still here
masterconfig was most responsible for the low quality textures and such. I'm curious if it would run with even slightly higher graphics
this is literally every one of my teammates when i play
we got doeshotter v2 before gta 6
I remember playing TF2 on my mom's hand me down 2010 macbook. It was horrendous
this reminds me when i used to play on my old XP machine - would queue up into a match, then i'd finally load in multiple minutes after the match start lol
Man takes me back to playing the game on my own absurd potato of a machine ha, I remember I'd play in a tiny window to try and eek more frames out of it
Is that a freekin MFM hard drive in the top bay? This reminds me of when I used to run this on a MacBook Air, with the fans screaming at full and the corner too hot to touch, never got my earbuds sadly…
It is a 1.5GB Micropolis 5.25" 50-pin SCSI Drive from 1989, I'll probably do something with it in a future video, so stay tuned for that!
Is that a Thermaltake Mozart TX I spy around the halfway mark and beyond?
Indeed it is! That’s my main rig
@@8-BitHacker Mozart TX mainrig brofist. Are you using the ITX side as well?
Yeah! I'm not using the ITX side since I don't have a powerful enough Power supply to handle 2 motherboards. I would do it if I did have a beefy PSU and had a use for a second motherboard in my case
@ I'm using it and the drive bays up front for a fileserver. FlexATX (Recommended) and to a lesser extent TFX formfactor PSUs will fit inside that area of the case, although it's dependent on the layout of the ITX board, and it wont be properly mounted like the main ATX PSU above it. There's also the fact a good quality high power FlexATX or TFX PSU is expensive relative to how much power you're getting out of it. An SFX psu *might* fit on that side of the case but finding a spot to put it will be a challenge.
There's also the Phanteks Revolt-X which can power two systems independently but apparently its a less than stellar PSU and they're not made anymore.
On a sidenote, dont be like me and try to cram in a water cooling loop into that tiny area. Its certainly *possible* as the 92mm radiator and 3d printed 92-80mm fan adapter can attest to, but I still wouldnt recommend it. Now the rest of the case? Have at it; the top fan cluster you need radiators that are exactly 120mm wide (HWLabs, Corsair XR5/7s, and Freezemod make suitable radiators), the HDD cage can be pulled for a reservoir and/or another radiator, and while in theory you can install a 360mm radiator up front, 240mm is the practical size limit without modding the case and requires a short video card for clearance.
"Hey buddy, I'm an Engineer."
Lets go your back! 😭🙏🏾
why did they have to remove steam for win 8 and 7 😭
@@brokenliterally Because it's a 15 year old OS and you can't support everything forever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Because capitalism or something idk
@@brokenliterally Waste of resources for Valve
Forced stop of support from Microsoft
Mainstream audience being stupid like a bunch of sheeps and upgrading anyway with no care if it's better or not(Tho Win 10 do be really good and I don't think I'll ever have an incentive to willingly update from it) (and because tbf Win 7 wouldn't most likely run a lot of modern tech and shit)
this reminds me of my old computer. it could barely run tf2, all textures seems to be bugged asf and go like 5fps with this setup.
intel pentium e3200
2gb ddr2
dg31pr mobo
long time then i got the chance to put a gpu, radeon hd 6450. the game was finally playable. :b
cool vid btw, it reminds me of myself years ago lol
Any reason why you went with win10 specifically? You could have used a lightweight GNU/Linux distro like Debian, which still makes a 32-bit version of the operating system.
bro gets more frames than me half the time
I feel old now
22:16
We have the same exact HP keyboard.
Matter of fact, I'm using it to type right now.
And good job on getting the game to work.
You can do worse; I used to play this sucker on an athlon 64 on xp with 1.25gb and a 2400xt back in 2009, and I played the History Channel Kumagames Vietnam game which was source based on an HP Pavilion DV5000 with a mobile P4 and a 128MB mobile geforce. I guarantee you someone can get this sucker working on a Pentium 3 and a Voodoo with enough ini tweaking
3dfx cards are wayyyy too expensive for me at the moment, but I'll probably make a follow-up video where I run it on windows 7 since I found a way to do that after I posted this video.
@@8-BitHacker Hats off to you brotha, it's fun to screw with old stuff, but the market's gone pretty nuts for it lately
I have a Mac home computer from 2004-9 running with a bootcamp version of windows 7 and it still runs better then a lot of computers today ( just the fps is 30ish)
Reminds me of my first windows 98 pc i put together with spare parts
This man solves practical problrms
This series was one of the most unpractical things I've ever done to receive a comment like this lmao
You could run tf2 without steam by creating a shortcut of hl2.exe and typing -game tf in the target field
Of course you won't be able to join official servers I'm sure the server browser won't work other then that you need to get the some files like direct 9 and others things to be able to get into the game in the first place
Nice, keep it up man
I'm amazed it worked on 32-bit windows, considering tf2 switched to 64 bit. Must have a legacy version.
I was surprised as well honestly
I got it to run on a 13 year old laptop, granted it took ages to load
I used to play TF2 on Intel atom with nvidia ion (2 gb ram)
Try to find the worst pc that can run it on arch pup, cachyOS, gentoo, or other linux distros that run well on low-end pc.
Thing is, if I were to do this on Linux, tf2 requires a 64-bit Linux distro to run since bots on tf2 used 32-bit Linux to bypass VAC. I learned this through a bit of research I did so that’s why I didn’t bother doing it. Good suggestion though!
@@rch5395 gentoo can't game, lmao
maybe overclocking the gpu would help but it just doesn't matter
this is giving me Bringus Studios vibes and I love it
why not linux and lower hardware with that ? (like a clean asrch install + pentium 3 1,4ghz and 756mb RAM)
for cloning you could use the dd command on Linux.
Im curious how this would run on linux. Would it even have vulkan drivers in order to run it with that?
TF2 on the PS1:
Question; how well does Team Fortress 2 Classic run on this?
absolute cinema
So this is how you get PS1 graphics on TF2 without installing that one mod, huh?
finally, team fortress 1
runs better than mine
Dude really? Steam bugsout on win xp- win 8.1 due to so-called virtualbox that you can disable by editing steam launch parameters in the .exe file
You could've ran it on linux and use way less RAM on the operating system. TF2 natively runs on linux.
By a technicality, it can get worse.
Since all TF2 really cares about is SSE2 support, any Pentium 4 can work. Including the Willamette 1.3, the first and slowest P4. So slow in fact a decent Pentium III is faster.
Since all TF2 really cares about is dx9 or even dx8, the GPU can get so much worse. I used to “run” TF2 with an integrated nForce 6150, and so theoretically you can use something as bad as a 64 bit PCI Radeon 9250SE, or the infamous GeForce FX5200. Both cards are bad but the Radeon has the distinction of being DX8.1 only.
great video
now try with l4d1
Still not bad as my old laptop
Can it run Crysis?
can you not use SteamCMD on older systems?
I'm pretty sure I ran tf2 on a pentium III
I remember my first time playing the gamo on mine gt210
Try getting it running on an athlon xp.
My laptop runs even worse tf2 that i can't run it at 30 or more lol
tbh, I've got worse.
1.48 AMD E1-1500
8GB DDR3 (2x 4GB)
500GB SSD
Intergrated graphics
Ubuntu 22.04 (I think)
lmk if you want to see me try
I think mine was worse, since it had a Pentium 4 506 2.66GHz CPU released earlier than your AMD, 4GB DDR2 RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce 7200 GS 256MB GPU.
The only bad thing is: Integrated Graphics and maybe the processor.
@@8-BitHacker Yours is older, but trust me, that E1 he has is truly worse. It has scores similar to those in the early Duron range despite being a decade and a half newer, and usually came in pre fab soldered boards and insanely low range laptops. Popular in eastern european low end prebuilds. It’s worth investigating
29:15 Bro it looks like your playing old Rainbow Six game

"Hey Hackers, 8-Bit Here!"
