I came here to write this exact thing. This is why I rate players up untill the 2000 more highly than modern day players. Perfect pitch,boots,ball,no fouls and scientific/medical advances. People like best,Maradona,pele etc. Would absolute destroy defences today.
As much as I can can get frustrated with modern day football being too 'non tackle' I would hate to return to a state of play where our most gifted players can get this kind of treatment every week.
Yes,but now it's become a ' Non contact Sport'! Quality Defending is& was meant to be ' Part& Parcel' of& the whole essence of the game! Without the Physicality,it has turned it into ' Reality TV' Football'( which is what we see today) and a very expensive one at that! Back in the day,these players cared about the Team & the badge & not just the ££££! Like Georgie Best,he had become one of the most recognizable faces in World football& was living the 'Playboy lifestyle' but regardless,when he stepped out onto the field at ' Old Trafford' ( Hung over or not,with little sleep) he still put a shift in & showed the fans that he cared about that ' Red Shirt' of Man U!
Really astonishing to see the thuggery George had to suffer at the hands (and feet) of lesser players, simply because they were so jealous of his talent. I love the way he used to hand them the ball after they'd kicked him, as if to say: "you want it so bad, here you are! I give it to you!" Thanks for a great video. 😎

Because he wasn't better than Messi. Messi as the best control on a moving ball I've ever seen. He makes complex dribble patterns seem simple. Skinning 3-5 players surrounding him on a nickel & dime. Factor in, the greater pressing on the man on the ball in the modern game, & that makes what he's done even more incredible. There was more spaces back in Best, Pelé, Maradona, era to work a dribble magic or make timely passes. Like everything in life. Things evolve.
@@johnpacino007 Sometimes games don’t evolve for the better in terms of watching a sporting spectacle though…The fact that for instance the modern game has greater pressing on the man with the ball and not giving so many spaces by closing them down means that the game is not so entertaining to watch because it has so much less continuity of movement….Like in Men’s tennis it is not as exciting as it used to be because nowadays there is more emphasis on the power serve to win quickly with less inventive play with players running to the net to improvise and win using unexpected skill shots.

My dad played against him when George was about 15...i believe it was a youth international game. Dads words (to my mother) were; "I played against a lad tonight, not a pick on him, but has the potential to be the world's best.
I remember seeing a full length photo of Best wearing just shorts taken after a match and he was literally covered in cuts and bruises from head to toe.

Every British player was a lesser player compared to George.
There are a lot of very brutal tackles and challenges in those clips, in today's game, most, if not all of them, would be red cards.
