    Well done in difficult circumstances Hils, the shot of her leaning to the curve at Wellingborough was brilliant 👍

      Thank you, Roger. There were lots of people out to see her, so a bit of a juggle trying not to get too many people in the way. Filming through the fence at York was a bit of a challenge too! 😊 Hilary

      MrSpaceman1111 glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I was relieved that guy pulled the child back too. Although, they were behind the yellow line, little children need to be so much further back than an adult. I used to be scared of speeding trains that passed right next to the platform when I was little. 😊 Hilary

    Its a pity the media haven't given any coverage of the retirement of this great train like they do the Flying Scotsman. Thank goodness for people like you and RUclips great video.

    Who ever puts their fingers in their ears when that magnificent sound and vision passes them. Wimps!!!

    • @hilsthetrainlady4683
      @hilsthetrainlady4683  3 года назад

      I think the guy at the beginning is actually holding a camera rather than covering his ears
      🤔 The small child with him does seem to be trying to block out the sound though. 😊 Hilary

      Difficult for a child with sensory issues that mean the slightest loud noise sets them off into meltdown. Took my son with some ear defenders. It meant he could experience the magic but still be safe and calm

    It was a sad but dignified end to an illustrious career for this magnificent Gresley masterpiece.I shall truly lament her passing in to retirement. she deserves it at 83 years of age.It was as though we were witnessing her last few breaths,with the black cloth hanging from her cladding.Goodbye old girl,we shall miss you.

      That’s lovely, William, and you are spot on. It was rather emotional seeing her at the end. I do feel for her crew and all those who have kept her in mainline condition. It’s the end of an era for them too. 😢 Hilary

    Seems the crew like to keep their cylinders dry, with the cylinder drains constantly open. Quite noticeable all around.

    • @michael32A
      @michael32A 3 года назад +2

      Looks more like the gaskets at the front of the valve chests (where the outer two valve spindles come back out the chests to drive Gresley's conjugated valve gear for the middle cylinder) were leaking to me, with the steam then billowing around the void ahead of the cylinders where the valences used to be making it less obvious where the steam was coming from.
