I am luck to bought one, because of your video, merely a few hundred Canadian dollars for my 2023 Christmas gift. Even the condition is not as good as yours, I am quite satisfied already.
Wow! The part when you're filming the watch and the tree, the leaves in the background look like glass, never seen anything like it. What a great lens.
Thanks for sharing.
WOW! I didn't know that this lens is such a gem. Thanks for sharing the history and samples. Keep it up! I would love to see more videos like this..
Thank you for your kind words!
We purchased a Vintage Zebra Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 16 blade portrait lens Canon mount from Roman, It was in mint condition. The 16 blade modification works perfectly. No grease on the blades, no fungus and no dust in the lens. The lens looks and functions as if it were brand new. Roman is a master craftsman! A ten star experience.
Merry Christmas Roman,

Thank you Tom and Lindsay for your kind words! Much appreciated!
Another nice feature I'd like to add: With the aperture stopped down to 11 and beyond, it can even produce some really nice aperture stars, which I experienced to be not too common for other CZJ lenses. It's a joy to use!
yes, it is!
Thanks for sharing the lens with us.
Thank you Dirk!
One day I'll own that lens. But for now my Helios 40-2 will have to do.
Thank you for all those information about this beautiful lens 🎀
On vacation about 20 years ago, I found myself in a camera store in St. George, Utah, one morning. I noticed a shelf of old cameras set up for display, and particularly an old Exakta VX with a 75mm 1.5 Biotar mounted. I asked to look at it, and noted that its aluminum build left it prone to body marks. I later called a friend who was collecting Exakta and recommended that he see if he could buy the camera; he did. Knowing how cheap he can be, I think he paid not more than $150 for both body and lens.
He was lucky! Now the prices are starting from $1000, and this is only lens....
This is a nice and highly desirable lens. It shares the high built quality of Carl Zeiss Jena lenses from the fifties. I was wanting it for years, but the skyrocketed prices put me off. In fact over the years I have collected nearly all CZJ lenses in M42 mount from the period, including rarer specimens, but this one is still lacking : insanely expensive for my wallet.
Beautiful photos and video :)
And Pachabel's Cannon as background to the samples was sheer perfection... great video buddy, many thanks.
It's one of my dream lens, cool
Zeiss is the BEST EVER!
Yup😍
This is one lens that I wish I can get my hand on but can’t afford
Great video
This channel should hit million subs soon
Thanks again 👌👌
Thank you for your kind words!
I bought it in a set for $300. Inc. Sonnar 300mm f/4, Tessar 50mm 2.8, some exa camera, a bunch of filters, m39 adapter, another adapter (which I don't know what it's for) and a macro ring. sweet.
lucky man
My dream... Amazing lens!
yeah and very expensive as for vintage lens
Very nice review. What a beautiful lens.
It really is!
beautiful! stunning!
I like the video test. How did you accomplish that? The biotar was mounted on a video camera? What video camera did you use?
My Sony A7 is able to record a video. The footage is from it
Спасибо. Молодец. Есть художественный и музыкальный вкус, уважаю. Ну и в фото-технике и процессе тоже знаешь толк. Нравятся твои работы.
Спасибо братан!
Pablo Nonpicasso has
What kind of convert ring did you used to connect to the sony a7
M42-Nex adapter
@@RetroFotoHouse one question . where could i find or search vintage lens convention or events in the east coast ? ( i live in nyc )
Is it possible to convert exacta mount to M42?
yes, but you need a metall cutting machine
Nice info and review but I didn't see a notation of what lens you were actually using for the tests. I think it was the fat version that you were holding before them, but the video discusses all 3 versions so I thought there might be comparative footage. I only have the exakta fat version and I always wonder, do I need the others? !
Well, it is difficult to gather all version of this lens:) I was talking about Fat version of Praktina B mount lens.
Which cameras fit this lens? I have one in great condition just want to want a camera that fits it. Maybe contax g1 or g2?
it depends of lens. Majority of them have exacta mount, some-m42 and sone Praktina B. I've even seen rangefnder coupled with L39 mount ones.
Have you compared this lens to helios 40/40-2? For how much is it better?
Yes, i did. Biotar is better
What mount is the Biotar?
originally it was in praktina B mount, i've changed it to M42 standard
I found an expensive Biotar in Exacta mount. It is in a shop for CLA. Looks like version 3. I want to mount it on Nikon F. I dont know what adapter to buy. I dont expect that I will get infinity.
try to find exa exacta-nikon f adapter
Located in US Biotar 75mm/1.5 for ARRI PL is for sale here www.ebay.com/itm/324017722499
Be nice if you could do a comparison between this lens and the Helios 40-2. Since no one has done it before.
I woud like to, but actually i do not have a biotar lens to make a comparison
@@RetroFotoHouse Maybe test the Helios 40-2 with the new version Zenitar-1C.
I have this wonderful lens. The problem is that I want to clean and lubricate it myself. Would you make a video? It will be the first and only! It's worth the effort.
Hi! No, i'm not planning to make such review, it is not recommended to open this lens for novice, it is quite tricky build inside
@@RetroFotoHouse Thanks for the reply! I will heed your advice.
Oh no not my GAS again
Hey man, awesome videos. I have JUST broken my мир-38в 65mm. I would love to send you a video or photos, I desperately want to fix it, i’m having so much trouble putting it back together, screwing it in and getting the aperture bar inline... any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for commenting something not relevant to this video.
