I was given a Champ by my kids, for 30th Birthday (as far as I can remember) - now at 71, this knife has followed me on 4wd adventures, fishing, working all over Australia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Tonga. I has carried out emergency repairs on numerous cars, electrical work on construction sites, delicate survey instrument repairs in the bush, gutting and skinning game animals while hunting etc, etc, etc.
Now, I still use it daily for the usual tasks and because of side affects from Cancer and Chemotherapy, simple paper and packet cutting. I have trouble even opening a chocolate wrapper (no strength or feeling in my fingers, so the knife is used to cut open everything).
My father always told me "you get what you pay for" - the Champ was very expensive at the time, but I suspect over 40 years constant use, it has worked out far more reliable and far cheaper than buying new "knock-offs" every few months.
Love your channel and really appreciate the effort you put in to all your videos. 😁☝
Now I am 73 years old and my VICRORINOX CHAMPION is from 1973 and even originally belonged to my father, who also used it every day!
This was sooo painful...sooo bad... I wouldn't give that knock off to my worst enemy
You are a man with a good heart! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What's worse is that by Victorinox lookalike standards it's actually pretty good, but was only made better than usual because they're normally sold as a actual counterfeits.
There's countless $1 generic "Swiss army style" knives out there that are much much worse and practically made of soup cans, they can get away with it because they never have to fool people.
It seems that a lot of the better or even decent Chinese knives and multitools tend to originate from unsupervised manufacturers who can only bother upping their quality to make passable counterfiets.
Ganzo , sanrenmu, Enlan, and kizer..etc all got started with counterfiets and most of the better cheap multitools stem from counterfeit Leatherman waves.
@@TylerSnyder305 Btw Kizer, the real Kizer knives, are really good. Got a few myself. They also harden the steel MUCH better than i.e. Civici.
@@CyberBeep_kenshi " real kizer " they are the ones who started off counterfeiting others, I'm not saying they're being counterfeited but I wouldn't know or care if they are though.
@@TylerSnyder305 i don't know. I just know current quality is very good
The old saying “you get what you pay for” definitely applies here. I would much rather pay for the quality of the Victorinox knife.
Great video Felix!
Thanks a lot for your comment!
Yeah. The only reason that I'd use it, if I knew that any knife will be ruined during a tasks or over a specific time period. Also, it is good for light duty use, like grabbing things...but it broke, so I don't know.
NEVER trust to the Chinese quality, ALWAYS trust to the Swiss quality. This video is the solid proof for it. Thanks man.
Thanks for your feedback!
Thank you Felix for this wonderful comparison! I always wanderd how those chinese products compare to the original ones and now we know why is it so cheap!😅
And you are the reason I bought an original Mountaneer among all of the other options (producers). I love it and thank you!! Keep up the good stuff!! Ciao!
Thank you so much for your comment!
I've never trusted knock-offs. Your video shows why. Thank you for this awesome heads-up video!
Thanks for your comment!
If I'm being honest, I come here to hear you talk and absorb you're positive, cheerful way of educating us all. Love your channel!
The Comparison intro is awesome, it's like an 80s TV Cop Show.
Great video, we all know clones are for clowns!
Thanks a lot for this wonderful compliment!
A deal for the real one. I found one for $106.99 USD but it has free shipping. I gave Swiss Champs as graduation gifts to my nephews through the years.
Hello David. Thanks a lot for your interesting comment!
Hi Felix
I just bought a champ yesterday but mine is Victorinox lol
Love it like I do all my Victorinox
Also love watching your videos every Friday
Keep up the good work!
My first SAK was a cheap knock-off of the camper. The saw was not even a saw, it just had rounded teeth in a single row and the reamer just like the one you got. The blades were ok for light duty and the only thing that worked well was the scissors. The body ended up opening like yours did, but it did clip back in... merely. It was really designed as a pretend toy IMO.
I learned my lesson: If my life might depend on it, I buy the real stuff and pay the big bucks or wait for a genuine sale..
Thanks for your honest feedback!
Sounds like your “saw” was the fish descaler
@@1988dgs I think that's what it was... but it was so rounded I doubt it would even work for that.
Similar story here. My first was a knock-off (I realized looking back) of not-so-bad usability, but it eventually broke (I think it was the corkscrew). But it was fit as an introductory toy or something of the sort. After that my father gifted me a proper Climber, that I have until today, 28 years later.
Thank you for this video. Loved it. Have not laughed so much for a long time. The knockoff is useless and the your reactions were priceless. Thank you for your awesome videos. Huge fan. Love your sense of humour in addition to all the useful insights and tips.
As my old dad would say Felix " If its too good to be true then it isn't true " and you get what you pay for.
Felix, thanks for putting yourself through all the pain of having to go through that piece of scrap metal and plastic. I've got and had many "SAK" over the years. I never got that model, but I definitely knew the outcome would be that. Of the few counterfeit ones that I have been gifted with, I would not even put in my pocket for use. They have ended up in a junk drawer or in location for them to rust away.
Thanks for showing us this one,, I've just ordered 3,, they look like an absolute bargain, can't wait for them to arrive,, 👍👍
I can see that wood saw snapping in half becoming quite the injury 😮
Danke für deinen netten Kommentar!
Great comparison Felix! Another quality video. As others have said you get what you pay for.
Glad you did this because we’ve all been thinking out loud, how it really compares…😊 I was laughing with you.
Thank you very much!
this was actually really entertaining to watch lmao! great content!
I bought a knock-off by mistake many years ago at an Army-Navy Surplus store (long before the internet). I didn't realize it wasn't Victorinox until after I got home and compared it to my authentic SAK. It looked just fine but performed like %&*#!!! I still keep it with my surplus gear as a constant reminder to never buy cheap gear again!
Thank you for doing these videos🙏
I really respect your thoroughness in all your videos. It inspires trust.
Vertrauenswürdigkeit.
herzlichen Dank!
I know you were joking about it being a toy, but it would make a horrible toy because with all its instabilities, it still has edges that can cut and points that can pierce, and that makes it even more dangerous for a child than the real thing.😱
You are absolutley right!
As a Swiss guy I knew the result before looking! Only from looking at it you see it sucks from A to Z... swiss army knifes are just the best multipurpose knives you can get!!! Thank You Felix!
Greetings Felix. I hope the people who were thinking of buying the knockoff watched this excellent video. The tool market is polluted with this kind of trash. Dangerous and useless. Thank you for the post. BTW, the tweezers, very funny, sad, but funny.
Thanks for the great review(s)!!
Thanks for watching!
Hi Felix: I enjoyed your comparison of the two knives. Years ago, at a “flea market” I bought a similar cheap clone of the “Champ”. The Chinese makers had even copied the SAK cross on the side. I bought it for $CDN10 even though the lady wanted $CDN25. Sales were slow I guess, but I would not have paid more to check out this piece of junk. It was pretty bad. The blades were dull. I was pretty apparent that the steel was cheap and the tools had little strength. I think if I had tried the corkscrew on a bottle of wine it might have snapped off. In your example the corkscrew bent. Anyway, with my curiosity satisfied I gave it to the child of a friend (with his blessing) knowing that the dull blades were probably only good for buttering toast. The other simple tools would have been fine for his needs. But the scissors sort of worked. Your description of it as a toy was perfect. The young fellow was very happy to have it. Ken
Hello Ken. Thanks a lot for this wonderful story!
Dear Felix thank you for your videos
I remember receiving a knockoff as a child. I thought it was way better than my grandpa's beat up old Victorinox knife as mine had scissors and a bunch of other useful tools. Fastforward 10 years, as my grandpa's knife was going strong and mine was basically unusable. I now have a Victorinox and have found they basically last forever :)
Thanks a lot for your interesting story!
Loved the video.
Thank you very much!
I received a Champ with the belt case from my company several years ago. My every day carry is a Huntsman, but if I out hiking, camping, or fishing, I also bring my Champ. The case Has a lot of good extras and is worth getting.
"I don't have a rockwell tester, but i have a file"
That was epic 😂
😂😂😂
Dear Felix , You are the best Victorinox blogger on the Internet! Thank you so much for the great video ! 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for this wonderful compliment!
good, thorough review
Thank you very much!
Great video Felix! People need to know that Chinese bargains are not what they seem.
Good comparison video Felix , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thanks a lot Michael!
Hey Felix! these are all wonderful videos, and for us Victorinox fans, this is really important and interesting. When will bushcraft come out? Harsh bushcraft, as we love! 🤘))) Thank you for your work.
👍🏼
Thanks a lot for your super kind comment!!
Awesome vid 👍
Thanks you very much!
I purchased my Swiss Champ at a Victorinox shop in Switzerland about 30 years ago (I think it was in Basel) so 100% sure it is an original.
Thanks to you I ALWAYS keep my SAK sharp with the nail file
Fantastic...thank you!
Hallo Felix!Super Vergleich!
They also did some comparsion and tests in China too. But they started with the corkscrew. All the wine they got came with screwcaps and since they are very efficient, it was not allowed to go to waste. EVERYTHING worked out fine.
What people will go to to make a quick buck. Thanks for the comparison man. Been a silent viewer for ages and i just want to say I love your videos. So creative and bring me closer to my own (genuine!) Swiss Champ haha
One thing though man, do you think you should blur something in the beginning of the video? Internet safety and I don't think people should know that. However I'll leave it to your judgement, just pointing it out in case you didn't notice.
Keep doing what you're doing man =)
Thanks a lot for your hint!
I carry a Victorinox "Huntsman" perfect for all my daily needs, never fails me. A screwdriver would be a nice addition tho"
Thanks a lot for your feedback!!
Then the Fieldmaster could be the perfect model for you. It has the same tools as the Huntsman, except for a Philips screwdriver instead of the corkscrew.
If you still need to open wine bottles, I believe Felix shows how to do it w/o the corkscrew in one of his older videos ;-)
@@cheesymogul Thanx for your reply. I actually use my corkscrew mainly for untying stubborn knots. Most of the wine I can afford has a screw cap, a Philips screw driver could be handy, but most of the screws I encounter are Robertsons, (square driven) the screwdriver I want is the one that fits into the corkscrew, an added nicety, I've been searching for one. I'm in Ontario, Canada,
@@TonyNicholls-gi9le i got the corkscrew screw driver separate as a replacement part, they can be found on line but your sak supplier may help you, im in uk
@@outlaweduk Thanx Mate, I'm originally from Wimbledon.
Thanks for the Video ❤
Dankschön!
That knockoff though….🤢🤮
VICTORINOX for the WIN!!!
Thank you for an honest and great comparison Felix!
If it’s too good to be true- it isn’t true.
Thanks a lot for watching!
WOW!
Great testing, excellent video, glad I go for the one and only Victorinox:) HA!
Great video.
Thank you!
Very good my friend ...Just how it IS...congratulations ....Victorino até whay up
At least it looks like what was advertised. This can't be expected with Wish 🤣
Thanks for your funny comment!
Yah, those are the worst scammers. Especially watches. Or probably everything. Just crazy they are allowed to show ads.....
There is only one (swiss)champ.
Thanks Felix, great video as always. 👏🏻👍🏻
Well that was pretty funny. I enjoyed your expressions of disgust. Phooey indeed! I now appreciate my Champ even more.
paper test in school: study a lot and answer questions within given time.
paper test in this channel: cut paper with knife.
I love this channel
Thanks for your hint!
I was just trying to make a joke, not hinting anything😅Sorry for causing misunderstanding
I really love your content!👍❤
Awesome knife (I will not comment on that silly copy) I had a Champ for years and made a really nice leather sheath for it. It unfortunately was stolen, when someone broke into my car. Now I carry the Tinker with the pliers.
Mm I think I did very well, I got my Vic Swisschamp with black scales for just £58 with free next day delivery! That comes out to just short of 65 Schwyzer Fronken, or 72 USD. But seriously it never crossed my mind to consider a knockoff of this or any other Vic model, I've seen vids of other knockoffs where the tools can be bent and broken off with a finger and thumb. I already had 9 SAKs before buying my Champ but still I'm very impressed with it! It is not at all too big for comfortable daily EDC, it fits snugly inside the 5th pocket of my jeans and I don't feel it at all as it doesn't move around or bump against me like that. It will last me forever, maybe I'll have to change the scales in a few years to keep it looking great. The crazy thing is that nowadays a Leatherman Squirt PS4 costs £50, so I paid just £8/$10/CHF 9,- more for my Champ which is 10 x better. Even the small pliers on the Champ are better than on the Squirt because when in use it fills the hand so you have more control and reach. Absolutely fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone. Even if you pay more than I did it's still well worth it. Gruezi aus England.
Uff, ich bin erschüttert. Die Pinzette war der Oberknaller🤪😵🥴🤮
Leider keinen Cent wert. Danke, dass du dir das für uns angetan hast und wir das sehen konnten😉👍
Sehr gerne und liebe Grüsse
Excellent video. You provided much good information about the Victorinox quality.
0:26, oops 15 times less, cannot be mathematically computed. Any number times another number, other than one or zero, will always produce a larger sum never less. Thus, properly stated the Victorinox is 16 times more expensive would make mathematical sense. Or, one could properly say the fake SwissChamp is 1/6th the cost of the real Victorinox.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Thanks for your post.
I bought a knock off swiss army knife from a well-known chinese website.
I only opened up the tools using an aid as i have soft very short nails,, 2 broke off.
🤣🤣 Thanks for your interesting comment!
Nice video, thanks 🙌👌👍😊🙏🍀
Thanks a lot!
O lado positivo dos produtos chineses é que eles sao excelentes para mostrar o que não deve ser feito.
Parabéns pelo vídeo!!
Felix, Good video. You get what you pay for!
Exactly!
Got 5 Vic. Knives, never disappointed me !
Gran video 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks a lot!
I've got the Swiss Champ (7 layers) and the XLT version (10 layers). The magnifying glass on the Swiss Champ is at the correct distance when the knife is laid down and something is put under it to magnify, but on the XLT that's 10mm thicker, the magnifying glass sits too high up to focus - it's certainly a design flaw and the magnifying glass should be at the distance where the hex tool is. The extra 10mm on the XLT only adds the spatula (useless), two more small blades (not needed) and the hex tools - which is the only reason I got the XLT, it has the hex tools! It's weird how much thicker it is when it only adds 4 more items. Even the back of the normal Swiss Champ has _every single thing_ the XLT has and the XLT doesn't add anything extra to the back.
I just know the Swiss Champ, sorry. But thanks a lot for your interesting feedback!
@@FelixImmler The one that seems to make most sense is the "Cybertool L" 🙂
Happy Friday Maestro Felix, I had a good time laughing at this video of Chinese made junk!
Oh dear me! It is embarrassing how bad it actually is. I have a couple of imitations but I'm sure they are not that bad. Maybe use the metal magnifying housing and put Victorinox lens into a custom SAK but although the money was badly spent on the knife it makes an entertaining video. Excellent as usual my friend
Great video Felix,
When it comes to Swiss Army Knives, there is no substitute for a Victorinox.
JT
Thanks a lot for your honest feedback!!
Old Wenger SAKs have similar quality to a Victorinox.
I got a knock off of a classic SD and the quality was exactly like the one you tested, but surprisingly the nail file is very good for fingernails, very aggressive, so I basically payed almost 7$ for a nailfile!
I bought my 2nd Swisschamp ca 28-30 years ago after I lost my 1st one in a train. It got some ‚battle scars‘ - the bottle opener is bent a bit from using it to pry open something; the scissors spring is bent and the toothpick is stuck… but hey its MY knife.
Danke Martin!
Interesting test always go with the original!!
Thanks a lot Mike!
Hallo Felix, ich war schon bedient als ich die Schneiden gesehen hatte. Was ist das denn für ein pfiffiger Schneidwinkelmesser den du verwendet hast?
Sorry, das weiss ich nicht mehr...
You get what you pay for. At least the knockoff does not use the brand name and the price is reflective on the product itself.
Its those fake ones that copy 100% like the original SAKs with branding/packaging that are concern. Many thas for sharing your videos 👍
Yes thta's true!
Hi Felix, in your view, is the Swisschamp EDCable?
No.. my pocket i to small :-D
Bought a replica champ decades ago now, the tools were ok but it fell apart at the seams. You really do get what you pay for.
Thanks for your feedback!
Hilarious! Thanks Félix 😅
Thanks a lot!
"Now the magnifying glasses: The transparent one is the Victorinox."
That was too funny. Didn´t see that coming. Even for a bad knock off that´s a WTF!
Indeed a good way of demonstrating why a knock off is a knock off! May I suggest you to buy 'soft grips' for your vice? That way you can clamp the item properly without damaging it. In case of the Chinese knock off it doesn't matter though ;-)
Holy moly... I expected bad stuff.. but this... 😱
Hello felix iam looking for a bit of advice i recently bought a Swiss champ my fist SAK since i was a child i tried to sharpen the large blade and have made an arse of it do you know of anywhere i can buy a replacement blade thanks
Sorry, i can't help you. I would ask on facebook "Custom SAK Group"
спасибо за интересный и подробный обзор! Но было бы интересно узнать из чего сделаны пружины и лайнеры на китайском поддельном ноже. Можно ли их использовать для кастомизации оригинала ?
No
When the saw broke and the pliers bent as well as the corkscrew you didn't do a follow up with the victorinox , don't get me wrong, I wouldn't try to do something with my swiss champ that it wasn't supposed to do, but it wasn't exactly the same test. To be fair I wouldn't expect a 6 euro/franc etc to perform anywhere near as good as a 100 euro model, but as a first knife for a clumsy child who is probably going to lose it or a cheap friend who always gets you crap presents, it's perfect.😂 On the plus side the tooth pick probably works.
I've bought a SAK from Lidl which "Made from German Steel" After I used it, I understood why the buyer was so discouraged to use it in the description that the only thing missed from the package that "This is only for decoretation purposes" Nonetheless, limitedly but a few tools works on it, (and I really mean few) but its good when you do something which you wouldn't hurt your other tools on)
I never regretted the 60 euros (in terms of today's money) I spent on the Swiss champ 26 years ago, on the contrary I would regret the 6 euros of the Chinese fake knife, this doesn't even work as a toy...
Thanks for your feedback!
So it looks like it's good for mixing epoxy, opening a can of beans and soda pop. Then discard. Hey, I was wondering if you might have any Baers in your family. My grandfather on my mother's side came from a line of Baers in Aargau.
I laughed so hard when you pulled out the tweezers! Lolol
😂 Thanks a lot!
Regrinding or sharpening isn't a huge deal, correcting poorly fit implements is, but the real deal breaker is the softness of the metal.
👋🔥✌️Hello, Felix. Very good 👍👍👍!
Thank you!
Felix I learned valuable lesson knock off was same issue as for genuine article was too big pulled trousers down I had alot of tools I didn't use so I buy genuine article and 2 layer knife only I get to use all tools on thinner knife 🇨🇭👍🇬🇧🐾🦊
Thanks a lot for your comment!
The question I am approaching this with at 4:04 is “would this knock-off suffice as a single extended use tool? Something that could be placed into an old steel Bandaid box survival kit, a small zipper pouch or more modern French mess tin size PSK?” Those who are preparedness minded but a few steps removed from obsessive may find value in an under $15 USD tool that can be placed, forgotten and yet will answer the call for numerous survival applications in a 2-4 day incident? Getting stranded in a dysfunctional car. Getting lost on what was planned as a day hike. Capsizing a canoe 20 miles into the bush and having to trek out. We shall see….
Yes you are 100% right!
I had such a laugh when you pulled out the tweezers - ha ha! But seriously, that knock-off could be a real safety hazard - you could injure your hand or fingers if a tool failed during use (like the saw did). You should now send it back for a warranty claim :-)
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Love it how you forget to talk english whenever shocked by the chinese hightech-tool! Danke Felix
Wow, my swiss champ si 27 years old my dad bought for me, lot of scratches bit still works
The swisschamp is exspensive, but i have worn my everyday for at least 15 years by now, ever since i bought it, and it is worth every single penny.
I need a shirt with Felix dissapointment "aiy yai" so bad..
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Dominic!
i was bought a Swiss army knife off my daughter for my 50th birthday I'm 70 this year and its still going strong and used every day. don't buy cheap rubbish knives if you want them to last.
Felix, I strongly think you were way to hard on that Chinese knock off. I believe it should of been used for what I think it was made for, and that is a display piece only. LOL Another great comparison.
I was given a knock of sak when as I was a boy and it left me with the impression that all sak’s we’re junk, 30 odd years later i bought a Victorinox and realised how much i’ve been missing out.
