That's really weird you said that, in '87 my uncle gave me the tinker model Swiss Army Knife, I was 10. Carried it with me almost every day until I was like 35, f*cking lost it picking grapes. I'm on my 5th replacement Tinker at the moment.
17:20 I found this knife while hiking thru Europe. It was stuck in a rock. It's nice but I found that by pulling it out I became king of Switzerland, which is a bit more than I bargained for.
I don’t really have an EDC, but I fully agree Victorinox pocket knives are a life changer. I have three of them and one of them is never more than a few meters away from me. I use them all the time!
Thanks for the video! After having suffered a disabled stroller axle, a flip flop malfunction, and a severely broken toe nail at a theme park some 25 years ago, I began carrying a tool to assist with repairs. I use my Swisschamp and Rambler daily. From small auto issues, tightening door and spectacle hinges, removing sharp objects from boot soles, or simply trimming fingernails, these tools are not afraid to work and easy to maintain! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My favorites are: - The Deluxe Tinker: My personal EDC for about 5 years, it's compact enough to carry in a pouch and has the three tools that I use almost daily: the scissors, the phillips screwdriver, and the very underrated pliers. - The Tinker Small: Basically the tiny version of my Deluxe. Although the 84 mm format is only slightly shorter than a regular 91mm Victorinox, it makes a quite a difference when you carry it in your pocket. - The Bantam Alox: Not only it's gorgeous to look at, but it's so slim that it fits inside my wallet! The combo tool is quite useful. I carry it wherever a full-size knife is not discrete enough. - The Outrider: The best knife in the 111mm range and the best knife for hiking or any outdoor activity. The locking blade is great for more heavy duty woodwork. - The Rambler: A perfect keychain knife for people who don't want to carry a knife! I've gifted this one countless times.
I will admit, I’ve at times felt jealous of the deluxe tinker. I carry a fieldmaster and love it, and while for some occasions I would love the pliers over the saw, there have been those few times where the saw has saved the day! I also used to carry a rambler on my keys. I recently swapped it for a mini champ. I wanted to try it since everyone seems to talk down on it and I’ve liked it so far. For the minimalistic style, I prefer the rambler. But this lives on a ring with ~10 keys so not too noticeable.
@@JohnDoe-xo7ggThe Fieldmaster and Huntsman are fantastic, but in an urban setting I've never had the need for a woodsaw. They're perfect for hiking, though.
My favorite SAK is the German army SAK. I was given one while attending the German Bundeswehr mountain school back in 1982. The combination saw, bottle opener, can opener, and both flat head and Phillips screwdriver is genius! I added the Firefly ferro rod and waxed tinder to the cork screw. I also drilled a thread size hole in the finger opener on the awl to use it for sewing. Whenever I go to the field that's the knifr I have with me.
My EDC at work is the alox mini champ, it's small enough to not intimidate people, can easily go on my key chain and an underrated tool that's possibly my most used is the hook blade on it, you can easily cut open pallet wrap, cable ties etc. without fear of damaging the goods in it.
Agreed mate, it's super useful. I've got the torch / pen version and use it daily for everything from opening packages to repairing guitars. Indespensable
Does your champ gets dusty/dirty? Like it comes slightly oiled, and over time it it picks up small buts from pockets. I'm curious if in long term it can affect knife sharpness...
@@ApxuBbI Dirt alone doesn't affect sharpness, although Victorinox Swiss army knives are meant to be cleaned and the blades themselves sharpened from time to time. They will get dull from use, it's to be expected
I actually just recently donated my SAK Huntsman to a foreign supermarket worker to aid in his daily work tasks. It is probably the oldest SAK that I had owned. I do like the SAK Cybertool, but being in engineering, computer & electronic repair, & appliance repair, I have soo many small and large portable kits/bags, and duplicates of these in my home and Truck, that getting the Cybertool was never a needed option. The 2 remaining SAK knives that I still own are the SAK SwissChamp, and WorkChamp XL. I bought the latter in Zurich, Switzerland some 2 + decades ago, but honestly would have to say my #1 choice is the SwissChamp. For starters, it is street legal here in Queens, NY, USA, and fact is I like the more versatility and that it has a magnifying glass. (getting older and my eyes aint what they use to be, and I like additional means to start a fire) I use to like the SAK Gentlemen knives, but I guess one could say I outgrew them when I started taking on large 'Jack of all Trades' tasks. Great video, and quite interesting on seeing your personal choices.
In the smaller size, I have the Rambler as an EDC/keyring knife; and it's great for around town as it is too small to worry anyone. In the medium range, I have the Spartan (old), Huntsman (very, very old) and the Swiss Champ (new). I bought the latter as my Huntsman dates from 1984 and the main blade has lost the grind from many years of sharpening. The Swiss Champ is too large and bulky for a pocket knife (my mistake as I was told this), so I have recently bought an Alox Farmer X. This is a great knife and UK legal (as pointed out in Jon's video). Very happy with this as the wood saw and scissors are my go-to tools for camping. The Swiss Champ now sits happily in my on-bike motorcycle tool kit.
For some reason I used to always think these knives always came with that corkscrew, which is worthless for me. Then I discovered the Tinker and I was sold! I use a Phillips screwdriver all the time. I have had a tinker in my pocket for something like 40 years.
@@donrichter3523 yup and is bit weak. the backside phillips on the Tinker line (and derivatives) is only good for light use, it's very easy to loose sight of the torque one is applying if a screw is a bit tighter and over torque it, there for damaging the pin and liners. i stole that from a reddit user
My favorite larger format is the Master Craftsman. Probably the reason that it was issued for Astronaut carry. Alas, it is discontinued…. I carry mine in a belt sheath…. Every day I have a climber in my pocket…..a poor man’s compact….cheap online ..you can get them used for half the price of a compact and usually even less…. The compact is, unfortunately, quite pricey for what you get…but very nice…. The Climber is one layer thicker, has same tool set if swap out for plus scales…except the combination tool is replaced by the standard can opener and cap lifter which works better as a small pry bar and snaps at 90 degrees. I agree that the most useful tool on any SAK is the scissors…..thank you for your videos!
I’ve heard you mention uncertainty about the “parcel hook” on a couple of videos now. There is one very specific use in my work life for which the parcel hook is indispensable. The parcel hook is the perfect shape to fit in a very specific slot on the floor of the transit bus I drive and grab the manual release latch for the wheelchair ramp. Obviously, I don’t use this every day, but rest assured that my trustee wanderer with its parcel hook is on my belt whenever I climb into the driver seat of a transit bus. IMJ this kind of exemplifies, the application of the multitude of tools offered on any Victorinox. On the one hand, there is what they designed initially to do, on the other hand there is what it winds up doing and how useful/helpful it is two people in their daily lives.
I had a Climber, which I loved and, sadly lost. Replaced it with a Huntsman, with which I am very pleased. For work, as a groundsman, I use a Handyman, which is just perfect. I would always recommend the SAK. Well made and last a lifetime.
I always carry the Explorer. I know it might be a bit bulky for some people, but it put it in my jeans pocket and never seem to notice it. I've used every tool on this knife and have carried out many different tasks. The in-line phillips screwdriver is by far the best configuration. In my opinion, it's the most comprehensive SAK that is still small enough to be carried every day. Build quality is superb.
Same here! It fits perfectly in that coin/waych/fifth pocket in jeans and chinos. It shares that space with a small sanitizer bottle and stands upright. I feel naked without my explorer.
My EDC is the Victorinox Tourist. At 84 mm it’s easy in the pocket and has everything I need. Its really just a smaller Spartan, which is their most popular knife. Being legal to carry in the Uk, I never leave home without it.
I love my Hercules. It has bigger saw and lockable knife blade which makes things easier to cut through things. It also has a pair of sharp scissors, nifty pliers whre I superglued a nail file and the usual can opener, bottle cap lifter and corkscrew at the back. Yes, it is heavier and heftier but such a small price to pay for the model's usefulness. Been in my backpocket, even in my long-runs for the past 12 years!
I saw a video recently about many ways to use the tools on a SAK. The corkscrew was used on soft wood in the country as a handle by just twisting it into the wood.
The one SAK I can't live without is my Victorinox 0.6463.T2 Folding Pocket Knife Nail Clip 580.... But on the hunt for the perfect camping / hiking one for camping tasks... But for edc.. The 580 is a must for me
Victorinox accepts suggestions… every year I ask for either a Cadet X or Bantam X (and I’m not the only one!). 84mm alox is the perfect size, but a SAK just isn’t complete without scissors. Great video, as always.
A hole world would open up, if there were 84 mm scissors. The Bantam X would be awesome. Pretty much a even more compact Compact. I hope that the 84 mm scissors will come back.
My fav is the Fieldmaster with the screwdriver, customized with a red clear plate on the top and a blue clear plate on the bottom side. Love it. Nice video👏🏻🍀📸
It’s so hard to pick favorites! Ultimately it comes down to what tools you’ve been using lately, and which ones you already carry. For example, I always go for the knives with pens because I don’t carry a dedicated pen, but for people who do carry a pen, this becomes much lower priority. On the other hand, I’m fine using my phone as a flashlight most of the time, so I don’t seek out the flashlight models. Let’s all just agree that Swiss Army Knives are fantastic =)
You can always pick your favorite (atleast the one with the tools you like) and buy plus scales for the pen, i have the huntman but doesnt come with pen, pin and small eye glass screwdriver, so bought them seperate to make it more urban friendly not just for outdoors
I'm a big fan of the Victorinox Cadet. It's just slightly thicker than the Bantam, but the separate can opener / bottle opener and the nail file make it much more versatile.
@werb42 I do have a Victorinox Trekker in my backpack and a Farmer Alox in my messenger bag. The Cadet is in my pants pocket because it's so small. I considered carrying bigger knives around, like the Cyber Tool L or the Ranger Grip, but those were just too bulky. The other three are enough for me.
@@BrokenCurtain Thats a pretty great collection there, the Farmer has been my EDC for 15 years now, also a big fan of the Hiker. A few years back I found a One Handed Trekker with a non-serrated blade collecting dust on a Snap-on truck, and purchased it simply because I'm still not sure this model officially existed. Kinda starting to see a pattern I guess, lol.
Watching this, I went to my kitchen to check on my 1970 Elinox 4 bladed SAK Pioneer. It's been with me camping, business trips, bicycle touring and now kitchen duty so I can keep an eye on my old friend. Got a later Elinox Farmer and a Elinox 1 speed. All three fit in an Altoids tin. File off the hand-killing key ring. I miss the crossbow in the logo.
@@JonGadget thanks for replying, I’m a EDC lover myself and have a small YT Channel with some videos on wallets and key-organizers. Victorinox Reviews coming soon 😁
iv had the classic sd for the last 5 years. been very good. and just replaced it with the nailclip 580. has the nail clipper scissors file and small knife. and also just got my first 91mm swiss champ. i cant stop looking at it.
Its hard to pick a favorite. I have a bunch and I carry different ones every couple of days. I know that imo, when it comes to outdoors stuff like with camping, the Handyman, Ranger, Outrider, Farmer, or Hiker are my go to SAKs. My wife bought me a Ranger and I love it. I like having pliers, but the Ranger doesn’t have any, so I usually carry the 5in. Knipex Cobra mini pliers in my pocket with it. Here recently, I’ve had problems with the alternator in my car, and I haven’t gotten it fixed yet, so I’ve been using those pliers to disconnect the negative on my car battery so it doesn’t die for the last couple of weeks hahaha. But if you want all of the tools on the Ranger model, plus some pliers, just get the Handyman. 👍🏼
I have a few Swiss Army Knifes and their all extremely good but in my opinion my 91mm Ranger is the one that tops them all - A Huntsman with a file and chisel which I find, personally, are extremely useful and makes the perfect Huntsman even better whilst still not too big like the Champ.
Jon - appreciate the thought process in developing your list (targeted for the EU rules and regulations). My take on the list for USA: 5. Hercules (111mm) - belt sheath / working outdoors. 4. Explorer (91mm) - medium weight pack knife. 3. Pioneer X (93mm) - carried every day in my small Topo bag either in my pack or cargo pocket. 2. Midnight Manager (58mm) - on my Keychain everyday. 1. Evo S-14 (85mm) - carry this knife nearly every day in my pocket. Honorable mention: 6. Slacks or jacket pocket - 74mm Executive. 7. Cybertool (91mm) - doesn't rate higher because I prefer a Letherman with bit kit for EDC screw driver.
Great rundown! I'd love to see a fixed pocket clip on the slightly too big/slightly too small Alox range... Of the 91s, I'm a huge fan of Climber and Explorer. The lens is useful for fire starting, as is the Phillips on the Explorer. The climber is pared back and practical. Hutssman is great, but I don't rate the saws as especially useful in the outdoors - a serrated rope cutter would be more useful (especially on Mountaineer). Compact is a great minimal option. I'm scarred by a not having a corkscrew once on a date, so I always carry!
6 months ago I got a SAK Midnight Manager for my keychain. It has everything that the manager does, plus a flashlight with a battery that can be easily replaced. This is going to be a permanent part of my keychain set. I use it all the time.
My first knife was a SAK (I think a Manager?), but for a long time I never really had one after that, at least not that I carried at all. Then I randomly was offered a Pioneer Alex with Copper colored scales and a red shield, and it had no bale loop or eye on it. That was the one that finally did it. Not having the bale loop or eye made a world of difference for me, and it has been in my back pocket for years since. I know it is a relatively rare version of the Pioneer, but it works so well for me I can’t go with another one if I wanted to. Been in the washing machine a couple of times when my wife grabbed my pants and I had not checked the pockets yet, and been used for everything from opening a package to putting together a desk for my mother last week. I have a ton of knives that cost 10x or more what it does, and none of them get put in my pocket nearly as much!
I dont carry my swiss champ but its usually in my glovebox or desk drawer. Its saved me countless times. Usually small repairs, tinkering, and the pen! My other is the camper which IMO is perfect for camping! Cork screw has come in handy for myself and others.
Nice list! Actually I prefer the Climber over the Huntsman for urban EDC, I can't remember I would have ever needed a saw in an urban every day situation
I've had a Camper for 15 years and It's been great but today I would go for a Climber, I used a saw three times max. But I also agree with Johnny, small scissors of Classic SD are great and I would like to have them on a 91mm.
I have both: Climber in Crimea(excellent for EDC there), Huntsman in Kamchatka(forests, parks everywhere, I use saw very often when walking on park with my dog). For other tasks I'm using Classic, Swisschamp, Trailmaster one-hand, Sentinel one-hand, Workchamp and GAK. This is my set of Victorinox knives. For hard use I have some other knives and LM Surge...
1:44 I carried one for years on my key chain, very useful, after it broke I opted for a slightly larger nail clipper version which actually has a fully functional nail clipper, as a handyman you sometimes break or tear a nail and small scissors or (even better) a nail clipper AND scissors + a nail file can be a life saver combined with tweezers to remove small metal splinters.
I've carried the work champ for 11 years. Recently replaced it with a newer version as I'd taken out the screwdrivers and scissors. I thought I was going to regret buying it after watching this vid, but alas it remains my daily carry with pride. My reason for carrying such a beautiful knife is that I'm an Arborist. I've managed to securely cram a pen in there also! Great video
@@clintwestwood3539 it's certainly pocket sized. 11cm long and sits just under 3cm high. The blade is 9.5cm and locks. It feels great in the hand and with the shape it's quite grippy.
@@JonGadget I do think so too. I’m looking at something to use while working but I don’t like plier based tools because usually the implements are short and not very good quality. Also I like forged pliers rather than casted like all multi tool plier based are (forged are stronger pliers and more capable).
Great list. I believe we have a bit similar view of things. Top list of tools definitely is 1. Scissors 2. Knife 3. Tweezers the rest will come depends of use. My top list as I don’t have all will be the following: 1. Rambler + signature scales = DIY Manager 2. Cybertool 3. Swisstool X 4. Huntsman 5. Handyman 6. Climber 6. Soldier 1976 7. SD classic 8. Executive/Bantam 9. Piknicker 10. Spartan
I prefer the Alox Cadet for my pocket carry. I also chose a Fieldmaster for my bag kit (very similar to the Huntsman). SAKs are fantastic bits of kit, and I can't recommend them enough.
Having owned and used and travelled the world with Victorinox knives for many years here are my thoughts on the value of various tools for EDC: Scissors: useful (fingernails, labels, medical tape, loose flesh) Metal file: useful (fingernails, cleaning corroded terminals, getting rid of edges and burrs and generally making things fit) Magnifier: useful (reading small print, pulling splinters) In-line Philips screwdriver: useful (it's a very good screwdriver) Pliers: useful (small nuts & bolts, untying knots, much better than the flimsy tweezers for splinters) but add a lot of bulk Wood saw: useless (works well but who ever uses it?! Just go find a smaller twig for your fire) Fish scaler: useless for non-anglers (and anglers should carry a proper tool). My favourite EDC knife is a modded Swisschamp (wood saw and fish scaler removed). IMO Victorinox needs to come up with a better replacement for the corkscrew, and they also really need to work on their LED game. Possibly both together?!
I’ve been carrying a pioneer x for more than a year now and it’s really been great. Very useful, especially the scissors and just a joy to look at and to have… :)
Agreed, I lost mine a while back and the Classic Alox on the keyring is doing most of the things now, but I just missed the Pioneer X so much I ordered a new one. I'd love it even more if it had the combination tool instead of the bottle opener and replace the can opener with a small blade from the electrician. Then again they probably don't want to make the perfect combo so you wanna get many different ones instead.
Have to agree with the Compact. So useful, and easy to carry. Suppose I should be grateful to the jerk who nicked my long-serving Cadet. Caused me to look around for a replacement and very happy to have found the Compact.
I’ve been carrying the electrician alox for a while and I love it. I wish it had scissors, but I also carry a classic sd alox as well, so that helps me out a lot
I found a very rare Executive with stainless steel scales in a tobacconist shop in London 15 years ago. It was brand new “old stock” of unknown provenance and they had only one. The Executive is my favorite model; it’s compact with scissors, screwdriver, two blades, file and nail scraper and a unique orange peeler sawtooth blade with a fine flat screwdriver head. It also has tweezers and tooth pick. Chuck Yeager said it’s his favorite knife. In combination with a Four Sevens titanium Preon it was my EDC for years but now is my nail care tool. I used to have a collection of small Vic’s with stainless scales.
My absolute favourites as in proven for my day to day and line of work vary between the Huntsman and Fieldmaster. Classic SD or Rambler are great as gifts.
When I bought my Manager it came with both the tweezers and the toothpick though you can only fit one into the knife at a time, the other remaining in the box the knife came with. I also have two Champs and it is a very useful tool (one is a permanent resident in my fishing tackle box).
Totally agree with your choice of the compact, it’s the version I carry for the same reasons & it’s superb; mine also has the pin which was supplied with it. The blade sharpens easily & takes a very sharp edge; a perfect EDC.
I bought the Manager after seeing your Micro Urban EDC. It came with a toothpick that could be swapped out for the tweezers for those who prefer the toothpick (like me). I also found another use for the corkscrew on SAKs - I used to have a car on which the lug covers on the tyres had to be removed by inserting a small metal tool into a hole in the cover and then pulling. I lost the tool, but my corkscrew did the job!
my ultimate favorite victorinox mt is the Champ, it has all my needs, it had a pliers which is enough for me and made my leatherman charge stay in my room😅, i had a knipex xs anyway.. .very suitable for my everyday work❤️
6:55 Usually, you are quite meticulous about details. This time though, you didn't mention the 'Female Hex drive 5 mm for D-SUB conectors' on that bit driver. It came in handy for me in the office go tighten those screws seen on either side of VGA ports.
do people still use those connectors! yes, I was being careful about video length with 8 knives to discuss - there is a dedicated video on the channel for the Cybertool
Have owned my original SAK Champion for 45 years. It has been all over the world with me, and has whittled tent pegs in the USA, sliced black bread in Scandinavia, opened beer and wine in multiple coutries, and even hotwired my car on one occasion. Been lost and found a number of times, and now kept safely on a lanyard. Has been back to Victorinox twice for service/rebuild. By daily user for work is the Forester. Easily accessible, locking main blade, very useful flat screwdriver, and saw. Larger than standard makes it a comfortable knife to handle. Blade lock and size makes it an illegal carry in the UK, as the law assumes any person carrying a knife is some sort of hooligan. As my general tool kit includes an axe, folding saw, several Stanley type knives, as well as quite a few sharp chisels, I would hope that any policeman stopping my vehicle would realise that I have quite a choice of possible weapons before resorting to the SAK for essential self defence.
I like your choices and reasons for them. For me personally, I guess I don’t mind carrying a large knife. I’ve carried a Huntsman now for several months as my first SAK and I don’t find its 4 layer size to be too large at all. I’m actually considering stepping up to the Ranger just to gain the file, and I believe I’d still carry it in my pocket. I’m even looking at the Handyman as well.
@@Ryomichi I just got the Ranger. Found it on sale for $37 plus tax. Had to grab it. At first I thought it was a bit chunky and heavy compared to my Huntsman but after I carried it for a day I stopped noticing that so much. It really is a lot of tools packed into a small space and I’ve already added the straight pin to it also. Now I just need to upgrade to the plus scales to get the ink pen and add the mini screwdriver to the corkscrew for a fully loaded out knife!
I carried the huntsman for a few years, but then got the Swisschamp, it's a lot bigger but is always with me. Although the main knife somehow opens more difficult than my huntsman, I will carry it for the extra tools. Mainly for the ruler on the fishtool, but the pliers and the file are very useful as well!
@@rickt151 Hello Rick, Hope you and your family are in good health. I have used my friend's Huntsman and I'm planning to buy it as my first SAK. @@1OneMinutePlease hello there, we're blessed to be in good health and I hope you are in the same situation! That indeed looks like the bigger brother of the huntsman, which might be a good option, I personally don't have any 111mm knives, but seeing the price I would consider if you want the extra length or if you want something lighter like the Huntsman or something feature packed like the Swiss Champ. The problem being that the Swiss Champ has gone up in price a lot over the last 5 years, otherwise I would definitely recommend that. Now it's more a choice of the size+weight vs the features I would say. And what are the intended purposes of the knife, is it the only tool you carry or is it complementary to some other tools? The Swiss Champ would in my opinion be a better standalone tool. I don't know if this was of any help, but I would consider these things as well as the price of course. Greetings from the Netherlands
I love the Rescue Tool. It fits easily onto my belt and I trust it. It's one of those, "won't leave home without it" tools, only becasue of what it's capable of doing.
@@arnoldcohen1250 That defeats the purpose of having a specific tool for the job, the inside corner of the can opener could remove the insulation almost as easily.
For me the Cybertool has zero rivals. Always in my pocket for a decade, helped me with home work, electronics, modding, repairing, hacking, you name it. Took monster beating, I sharpen it up and it is just there, to save the day. Perfection.
My number one is huntsman. It has a good selection of tools that you may really need in special situations. For me, the most important are blades, saws and scissors. Thanks for the presentation!👍👍👍

I bought the latter in Zurich, Switzerland some 2 + decades ago, but honestly would have to say my #1 choice is the SwissChamp. For starters, it is street legal here in Queens, NY, USA, and fact is I like the more versatility and that it has a magnifying glass. (getting older and my eyes aint what they use to be, and I like additional means to start a fire)
I use to like the SAK Gentlemen knives, but I guess one could say I outgrew them when I started taking on large 'Jack of all Trades' tasks.
Great video, and quite interesting on seeing your personal choices.
Had a huntsman for 25yrs. 1 and only knife. Love it.
The huntsman is my preferred one as well, it's brilliant.
The corkscrew is for holding the 2mm screwdriver!
I hate the backside Phillips because it never seems to reach the screw I need to get at.
I don’t mind bulk( actually I prefer it) so I carry a Swiss champ on the daily. Love that thing!!!
Why I like the Cyber Tool and getting one the pliers and scissors.
You actually answered my burning question. Was wondering what the bigger version of the Huntsman is. I inherited one from my Grandpa years ago.
Bantam Alox is a fantastic piece of kit. It's so useful that it's become my go-to edc. The combination tool and blade line-up is an absolute winner
Thanks for the great feedback Robert
The Victorinox Cybertool L is the knife of my choice. I'm a tech-engineer and the functions are great
I always carry the Explorer.
Great to hear, the Explorer is a great option 👍
Same here! It fits perfectly in that coin/waych/fifth pocket in jeans and chinos. It shares that space with a small sanitizer bottle and stands upright. I feel naked without my explorer.
My first SAK was the Explorer. I bought it in 1969 and it works as well now as it did when it was new.
The 580 is a must for me
I have become addicted to your videos and every one ends up my buying so much stuff from Amazon ! Thank you so much. Brilliant.
Thank you for the kind feedback 😊
Thanks for the vids! we need a vid. on SAK preferred sharpening options and maintenance.
Super Tinker is absolutely the best one. And if you want to carry something a little bit heavier then it's the Deluxe tinker.
i just got a super tinker a few weeks ago and ive already been using it every day, its amazing
Yeah, I am strongly agree author skipped absolutely top and number one is Super Tinker
Champ is my EDC
Nah
Old Wenger 91mm Ranger and much newer Victrinox Ranger and recently an Alox Pioneer.
Wish i had the Farmer though!
About half of my knife collection is Victorinox. My top 5 would be, Rambler, Farmer, Adventurer, Bantam and Hiker.
Victorinox accepts suggestions… every year I ask for either a Cadet X or Bantam X (and I’m not the only one!). 84mm alox is the perfect size, but a SAK just isn’t complete without scissors. Great video, as always.
I find compact scissors to be useful enough that I carry small folding dedicated scissors.
A hole world would open up, if there were 84 mm scissors. The Bantam X would be awesome. Pretty much a even more compact Compact.
I hope that the 84 mm scissors will come back.
@@brawndothethirstmutilator9848I am a scissor freak. My Klein electrician scissors ✂️ r always in my truck at the ready. Don’t need sak scissors.
The bantam is an elegant looking little tool. Great for a gentleman carry.
Just bought my first Swiss army knife: a bantam alox. Love it.
Agree. Victorinox is the best compromise for every day use. Love it.
Compact it's my favorite too
My fav is the Fieldmaster with the screwdriver, customized with a red clear plate on the top and a blue clear plate on the bottom side. Love it. Nice video👏🏻🍀📸
My top eight:
8. Pruner
7. Bantam
6. Ambassador
5. Rancher
4. Explorer
3. Climber
2. Combo of (alox Classic SD and Waiter)
1. Compact (We agree)
My EDC for the last 26 year has been the Victorinox Executive.
i have been carrying victorinox for almost 50 years. my first one was the tinker. my current one is the huntsman on my belt.
Mini champ and tinker and huntsman for our doors are mine
My EDC is and probably will remain the regular minichamp. The amount of utility packed into such a small knife is impressive
Yep, I use it all the time even the orange peeler lol
Very useful. I would add waiter (waiter plus) to the list.
Compact is also my everyday cary. Great!
I have been carrying this model for about 20 years. I love it versatility.
I'm a big fan of the Victorinox Cadet.
It's just slightly thicker than the Bantam, but the separate can opener / bottle opener and the nail file make it much more versatile.
Yup agreed, I love the nail file! So useful
The cadet is a fantastic secondary knife and unbelievably easy to carry. I have 3 of them and 1 of them is always in my back pocket .
The cadet is my favourite, it's thin and light and has a lot of useful functions
You won’t go wrong with any Victorinox they’re all great.
One of my favourites for edc is the Walker.
My daily carry is the SAK Spartan. Love it!!
I have the Huntsman and Explorer. I like them both, my first Victorinox Swiss Army Knife's.
Another vote for the Alox Cadet here. Fits perfectly in the front pocket of my Alpaka Zip Pouch. Love the nail file, use it all the time! 😂
The farmer x is my edc..became a beater this past few months and it never disappoints..
Any Swiss Army knife is better than no knife .
Amen!!! 🤠👍
Jetsetter: 😭
Legend saying legendary things
Real
Turns out 😮
Huntsman rules for me and a corkscrew is great for tight knots and some wood work
My EDC which I change every day is the Compact, Pioneer X Alox and Alox Minichamp. They are all fantastic!
good to know
@@JonGadget thanks for replying, I’m a EDC lover myself and have a small YT Channel with some videos on wallets and key-organizers.
My take on the list for USA:
Honorable mention:
6. Slacks or jacket pocket - 74mm Executive.
7. Cybertool (91mm) - doesn't rate higher because I prefer a Letherman with bit kit for EDC screw driver.
also great well thought out options 👍
I have Victorinox Pioneer for 15 years now....its My EDC knife... Still good as the day i bought it👍👍
Great rundown!
Correction: Like said in the video, it doesn’t have the tweezers. It might be a bit bulkier, but it is still a super small package IMHO.
Hard to pick a favorite SAK have a nice collection happy with all of them.
I have a ton of knives that cost 10x or more what it does, and none of them get put in my pocket nearly as much!
thanks for sharing - as you say, hard to beat
I dont carry my swiss champ but its usually in my glovebox or desk drawer. Its saved me countless times. Usually small repairs, tinkering, and the pen! My other is the camper which IMO is perfect for camping! Cork screw has come in handy for myself and others.
Nice list! Actually I prefer the Climber over the Huntsman for urban EDC, I can't remember I would have ever needed a saw in an urban every day situation
Usefull as a seat belt cutter
I have a *Huntsman* because they come in a variety of colours and are often on a sale that makes them cheaper than the *Climber!*
I pretty much alternate between the Climber and the Huntsman for EDC.
Personally the Explorer is my favorite EDC. Always in my pocket.
I love the alox scales, but no tweezers is a big no for me.
I like the Handyman over the Champ. Seems more practical and slightly thinner! Cheers!
makes sense
I do like to carry the waiter. Love the combo can and bottle opener
Your reviews are amazing. I started using the key smart and it’s a game changer for edc
Good to know 👍 - thanks for the feedback
I've carried the work champ for 11 years. Recently replaced it with a newer version as I'd taken out the screwdrivers and scissors. I thought I was going to regret buying it after watching this vid, but alas it remains my daily carry with pride. My reason for carrying such a beautiful knife is that I'm an Arborist. I've managed to securely cram a pen in there also! Great video
How big is it? I always see people saying that the workchamp is way too big and scared me from buying it
@@clintwestwood3539 it's certainly pocket sized. 11cm long and sits just under 3cm high. The blade is 9.5cm and locks. It feels great in the hand and with the shape it's quite grippy.
work champ has a great tool selection - locking knife rules it out in UK for general carry - but very good choice I think
My top list as I don’t have all will be the following:
1. Rambler + signature scales = DIY Manager
2. Cybertool
3. Swisstool X
4. Huntsman
5. Handyman
6. Climber
6. Soldier 1976
7. SD classic
8. Executive/Bantam
9. Piknicker
10. Spartan
some great options there - thanks for sharing 👍
I prefer the Alox Cadet for my pocket carry. I also chose a Fieldmaster for my bag kit (very similar to the Huntsman).
SAKs are fantastic bits of kit, and I can't recommend them enough.
Having owned and used and travelled the world with Victorinox knives for many years here are my thoughts on the value of various tools for EDC:
Scissors: useful (fingernails, labels, medical tape, loose flesh)
Metal file: useful (fingernails, cleaning corroded terminals, getting rid of edges and burrs and generally making things fit)
Magnifier: useful (reading small print, pulling splinters)
In-line Philips screwdriver: useful (it's a very good screwdriver)
Pliers: useful (small nuts & bolts, untying knots, much better than the flimsy tweezers for splinters) but add a lot of bulk
Wood saw: useless (works well but who ever uses it?! Just go find a smaller twig for your fire)
Fish scaler: useless for non-anglers (and anglers should carry a proper tool).
My favourite EDC knife is a modded Swisschamp (wood saw and fish scaler removed). IMO Victorinox needs to come up with a better replacement for the corkscrew, and they also really need to work on their LED game. Possibly both together?!
great well thought out feedback - thanks for sharing
I’ve been carrying a pioneer x for more than a year now and it’s really been great. Very useful, especially the scissors and just a joy to look at and to have… :)
Totally agree!
I have been carrying compact at least 10years. Made video about it 9years ago. Still the best.
I have one too and really like the short blade - ask you say, no scissors....
@@JonGadget the short blade is the reason I got it.
Great to hear - thanks for sharing
@@JonGadget Noted.
Roy, I'm in South Africa. I'd like to have the blade on my Pioneer replaced. I've Googled but had no joy. Where did you have yours serviced?
The huntsman is my favourite too I am going to get the compact next in blue ! The corkscrew is very useful for the outdoors due to untying nots
Good choice to step up you. Personally I’m carrying Leatherman multitool.
But I had looked up on the Outrider online, It has mostly the same tools but in bigger size.
From your experience, which will you pick for usability and VFM ?
Best wishes,
From India.
I keep my victorinox tinker on me every single day and I absolutely love it.
The Compact is the one I carry all the time. Must get one of those ferro rods!!
I love the Rescue Tool. It fits easily onto my belt and I trust it. It's one of those, "won't leave home without it" tools, only becasue of what it's capable of doing.
The combo tool and pen on the Manager are incredibly handy👍
The wire stripper on every SAK I own is totally blunt.
makes a great fire starter thought with mini ferro rod
@@JonGadget As you said in the video, but surely you filed an edge on it first ?
@@arnoldcohen1250 That defeats the purpose of having a specific tool for the job, the inside corner of the can opener could remove the insulation almost as easily.

Why is there never any mention of the Victorinox Executive which is my EDC? A gentleman's pocket knife, for sure.
For me the Cybertool has zero rivals.
Always in my pocket for a decade, helped me with home work, electronics, modding, repairing, hacking, you name it.
Took monster beating, I sharpen it up and it is just there, to save the day.
Perfection.
Lovin the rangergrip 61. My new favourite edc. Fortunately here in Canada we can have locking blades.
Rangergrip 55 onyx black! My favourite edc
Thanks for the recommendation for the Key Smart clips, they work very well 👍
let's go, daily compact squad! manager or midnight manager is on my list too.

I am also infected bye them…❤
I use the 'parcel hook' to remove camping pots by the handle, out of a fire.
good use-case
After using Victorinox for over 50 years I dare say the come close, but never first. I found the ultimate EDC in a Swiza D04. Lock blade and Phillips screwdriver can't be beat.
