Shmee150 Absolutely Incredible Head to Head Review I think it's awesome that Autowelt let you drive both gens of 911 Sports Classic and I definitely agree that they aren't worth the 100k extra and I think you should definitely get a 992 Carrera GT3 or GT3RS along with a 718 Cayman GT4RS
Wow, seeing both Sport Classics side by side really highlights how much has the 911 grown over time, also, I'm more a GT3 kind of man than a Turbo kind of man but this Sport Classic feels so special ❤️
I've always wondered something. Where does Puppi go when you switch back to handheld mode? Does she go hang out wherever you are or does she follow you in case things go bad. Here I realize she was in the car obviously, but I've always wondered if she gets to drive the car too, or does she go hang out somewhere and wait.
@@Shmee150 how much input does puppi have in direction / production / scripting etc of your films? Does she give you feedback of stuff that does / doesn’t work? And do you both have a rule about not talking shop when you spend so much time travelling together?
It’s great to see a new reincarnation of the Sport Classic. My only reservations are the new wheel pattern and the new shade of grey, but it’s still a great modern icon of the Porsche brand. Thanks Tim!
I love the 992 Sport Classic…definitely add one to your collection as I’d like to see one used regularly, especially some journeys through some beautiful countries
@@docpj9665 yeah, I’m aware, thanks. In case you missed it, I was clearly pointing the other commenter to a spot in the video (if he’d actually watched it) that answered his question. I have to admit, as a recent purchaser and owner of a 997c4s, I was sitting quite smugly watching when you said we would be surprised by your choice. I was convinced by your smile and body language you’d have chosen the 997!! You were beaming driving it and seemed less engaged in the 992.
@@docpj9665 since you’ve mentioned here as well as in a direct reply to me elsewhere, please enlighten us all on this statement from Shmee where he’s “not willing to put up with the chitty way Porsche UK play games, etc…..”? That and he’s mentioned countless times in the last couple of months that he’d love to add a GT4RS to the fleet so not sure what you’re on about with the no Porsches in the near future thing.
100%. I would absolutely love to see a Porsche 992 heritage TARGA 4S that would be incredible and the sport classic would be brilliant as well so it’s at the festival of speed which was brilliant. Thank you so much for your videos. hope you had a brilliant day.
That has to be one of the most beautiful versions of the 911s this year for sure, but I am old. It is nice to see the critical Shmee in this review though.
Porsche is really proving out here that they are the Ultimate Enthusiast car maker. What an amazing car. Flat 6 turbo manual RWD. Nothing to dislike about that.
Tim do you have a list of every car you’ve ever driven? I’d imagine someone could put one together through all of your videos, and that would be amazing to see given your experiences with friend’s collections and brands.
I think Porsche’s limited heritage 911’s don’t offer much in terms of performance for the price tag , and a price tag that high isn’t justifiable to me for the lack of performance and power.
Have to agree with Tim here. Clearly this car is meant for the Porsche diehards, but to anyone else - the premium over something like the GTS, it doesn't offer as much bespoke items as it should for the price IMO.
The Sport Classic is fairly unique. They took the Turbo engine, toned it down so the manual transmission could handle the power and so they didn't need the side vents.
Agree with Tim. This is a huge cash cow for VAG! Overpriced for what you get. Wait two years and a similar car with this engine and RWD Turbo will be available for us mere mortal plebes at a significant discount when the 992.2 arrives. It’s VAG’s M.O., lol.
Tim, I watch every video you post on RUclips because I see how genuine you are about how you feel about every car. Very diplomatic, but honest and direct. I like to see you succeed and get a bigger garage. No one posts video like you do. Thank you for great content. I was in Swiss last January and went to Zermatt to ski. I got two tickets driving from Italy l to Switzerland but I saw the road you were in was much more beautiful than the autobahn I used. Can you share the area or the side roads you used. Thank you.
Tread carefully with the 911 Tim, be aware of woeful interior build quality issues. I have a 992 Turbo S from new, it has taken a year to eradicate the annoying interior squeaks and rattles esp regarding the driver's seat which if you are slightly plump (as I am) WILL squeak badly under acceleration/cornering. I have the full details of fixes etc if you experience the same. Hopefully not!
Shemee, Enjoyed your back-to-back review. I just looked at one from our local dealer this past weekend. Beautifully done, inside/out. Of course it was already sold. What surprises me on this 992 Sport Classic and considering it's price (not to mention the crazy dealer markup, as much as double, on these pre-sold units), I wonder why Porsche did not build these as Normally Aspirated with a 6-Speed manual. With all the carbon fiber that IS used in the car, could had been a limited edition Sport Classic 992R, just saying. Perhaps you're right, it intension is to be a "clinical drive" 911 Porsche.
This is the first time seen you be critical of a car. Well done! Not every car you should review can be perfect. Even though the 992 is amazing but limited availability and MSRP does not justify the value.
For me the best Porsche is a standard 992 Carrera. It just has all the heritage, the design, the nice engine sound and for the daily usage, it drives easy as an Audi A4. Of course the Sport Classic looks fantastic, but it’s just to expensive and exclusive for daily driving.
I think you somewhat overlook what options the price includes. There are very few options. I spec'd one up with only 5k in options, whereas I normally spec 20-30k on regular models. Of course, I guess it depends whether or not the standard spec really appeals. Then there's the fact that you have a unique powertrain and body shell, etc, and you're never going to lose any money, rather you are likely to make money. Consequently, I don't think it at all surprising that all 1250 were pre-sold. IMO, the GTS is more overrated than the Sport Classic. As always, YMMV, and that's okay.
Stunning cars, especially the 992 Sport Classic. So glad I didn't spec the annoying 'Lane Assist' option on my 992 GTS. A similar system is annoying enough on my wife's car.
C’mon Schmee…you prefer the 992? Really? I saw that smile emerging as soon as you got properly underway in the 997 😁. Didn’t see that in the 992 drive.
The Sports Classic would have been my favorite 992, but the Dakar was made, and the 911 Dakar is the coolest 911 I have ever seen, I would have the Dakar over the Sports Classic.
The only time I saw I a sport classic was when I test drove a 997 in a similar colour. I said “I’ll take it, but that one over there, I prefer the colour” the salesman’s face was a picture. “Sir, that one is £250,000 this one is £25,000”. My face must have looked a picture. That’s when I started looking, and really learning about Porsche models.
Greta review! While I would love one of these, I completely agree with the analysis except I’d go for the 991 GTS. I recently drove a 992 GTS and a friend has the 991 GTS which I think I prefer. The 992 just feels a little too big and too boring in some way.
