I know that some people will see these things as "nitpicks", but for a $60 dollar remastered we expect nothing but improvements in almost (if not) everything from the original game. Also, I know that the normal consumer won't look out for these problems because all they want is a New Donkey Kong game and this covers that perfectly. Either way, problems like these should be improved or fixed, but that doesn't mean is an awful product overall. We want this to be the best because we love DK.
Every downgrade is awful. They were either porting it one to one with no quality control, or they simply couldn't port it and didn't bother to find a way to make it happen. I hope they fix these things like the other improvements made.

Honestly Im quite happy with this, as someone who couldn’t enjoy the wii version because of the controls and couldn’t properly play the 3ds version because of how tiny the characters looked in that screen this port seems like the best of both worlds. I love tropical freeze and this game is shaping up quite fine.
The only problem is that as they are charging $60 for this remaster, the minimum expected is that it would be equal to or better than the original versions. That's why these graphical problems are so annoying, I doubt anyone would create problems if it only cost $40 like the Pikmin ports.
I paid $50 for this when it released on Wii, paid $40 when it was ported to 3ds (I traded that away later), paid $20 when it was made available digitally in the wiiu eshop and paid $20 when it released as a Nintendo select on the 3ds eshop again to give it another chance. Im not saying price isn’t an issue but my point is there have been multiple ways to enjoy this game at various different price points for years, everyone knows the only reason this game is coming out is because of the Donkey Kong amusement park expansion so this is more of a premium release cause not a lot of people care for this game specially when tropical freeze already exists and is way better than returns. Definitely do not feel pressured into buying it.
it's obvious this is a port of the 3DS version and not the Wii original it's unfortunate that they didn't do much to touch it up but the main reason why this game looks worse in many aspects is only because the game is a port of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Its really interesting seeing the differences but this is a pretty fast platformer, ill be too focused on not jumping down a pit to notice these things in motion.
I'm convinced that the version of the game that has been used as the base is the 3DS port rather than the Wii version. It explains why things are downgraded and aren't quite working as you'd hope. I also find it so strange that the opening cutscene still has the expected hair on his wrist, yet the in-game model doesn't! I mean, surely the people developing this can see that? I'm still keeping everything crossed that the final version will have fixed most of this.

DK Country Returns first on Wii, later on 3DS and now on Switch so DK Country Returns has returned third time what's insane! Feels like they're getting footage from several different builds hence why the fur was gone in one trailer then back in another. It's really weird. But I think, since they're charging $60 for this remaster, the nitpicking is warranted. Remember the Metroid prime remaster was $40 at launch and that had so much work put into it, it may as well have been called a remake.
Right now I'm more focused on DK64 release in the NSO+ I hope next week that something can arrive after the 2 Tetris games, maybe a Rare-DK Bundle or something
The fact we have both control styles (motion and Button) on a bigger screen and the TV will make this the definitive way to play for me for sure but I can't help but be a little disappointed at the graphical issues. Like... has anyone compared the disappointing downgrades to the 3DS? Is it possible THAT is the version serving as the base and the cause of all the downgrades?! Like, that would kinda make sense right? Less particle effects and stuff WOULD make the game run better on 3DS right?
Dude, at this point, I feel like we’re just beating a dead horse. All we are doing now is just nitpicking such meaningless stuff. The game looks perfectly fine even when compared to the Wii version.
I'm starting to think that this version is working from the 3DS version and updating the effects has been somewhat trickier. Since if they were pulling from the Wii version, I suspect maybe the transition to HD would have been smoother.
Maybe they're using that version because reworking the 3DS levels would have been harder to implemente to the Wii version. This all speculation. But who knows. We've seen Bandai Namco having issue with porting Tales of Symphonia and no version outside of the Gamecube one ever ran at 60fps.
Like we all know at this point that this isn't a remske of a wii game. It's a remake of a 3D game, which happens to be a remake of a wii game. Can we just all accept that fact and move onto comparisons with the 3DS version? This isn't rocket science, Nintendo is remaking a 3DS game rather than a Wii game. Why are you still comparing this to the Wii version?? It’s the 3DS version they are making HD
As I mentioned in the first video, it doesn't appear to be based on the 3DS one. And even if it was, it doesn't matter as this is positioned as an upgraded port, which the Wii version was always the superior looking version
Not gonna pay $60 for a remaster of an inferior version of the game. The Switch version needs to be the BEST version or it's just a waste of time.
This game still looks great and I will buy it Day 1

Why don't they wait until Switch 2 so they can use more powerful hardware?
Pretty confident the are remastering the 3DS Port and not a remaster of the Wii version. I am curious if you redid this analysis and compared it to the 3DS port, I imagine it would be much closer to that.
7:18 the water isn’t the big deal to deal with, I mean looks pretty good I mean as some confusing, who it looks.
