Not only do I still have my 3DS copy but I also bought the original one for the Wii less than a year ago. That was before they announced the HD (Switch) Port.
Like “Donkey Kong World”. Based on Super Mario Odyssey. Donkey Kong and the kongs travel around the world, bumping into not only the jungle, but different places like islands, forest, modern cities, and maybe kingdoms. To spice things up, he might even bump into some cameos (maybe cameo Islands, besides or more than just the Mario series at least). The DK crew can even be involved for the finale.
I would’ve preferred a straight port at this rate. Even if it meant DKs fuzz is lost, it’s unbelievable how you can make a wii game look worse than it did on 3DS.
What bothers me most is that why the hell new version does not use more polygons on Switch? Game's enviroments still look blocky and even enemies are not rounded -up.
Because that's on a whole other level. This is just an HD reamster, not a remake. It's A LOT of work to make new character models. It creates new problems that need to be solved, and so on and on.
One thing I really dislike in remastered games is the "retouched" lighting. The artists wanted the game to look a certain way, redoing it goes against their original vision
I hate it when they do this, and it hurts games that have a dark artsyle the most, demon souls remake suffers from this the most, so does dark souls remastered to an extent
Gamecube used Realtime lighting (max. 100 Mio Rays/Second). 3DS uses realtime lighting (max. 100 Mio Rays/Second). WiiU can use both simple lighting by GPU (no RT), but it can also use an own custom realtime lighting engine (approx 10 Billion Rays/Second).
How did they manage to make this look WORSE in some aspects? And why can't they get GC & Wii remasters to run at 60 fps on Switch hardware?! The GC came out in 2001, and the Wii was basically just a slightly improved GC. It's crazy they can't manage 60 fps on a simple remaster, let alone remakes like Paper Mario TTYD. Switch should have zero issue with that. Even worse, they have the nerve to sell these games for *FULL PRICE?!* Pass.
The reason why those games don’t run well (like most switch games) is because the switch is underpowered af. People tend to forget just how horrible the switch hardware is.
@drewa4235 Braindead reply. This is a Wii/3DS game. The Switch can run games such as Luigi's Mansion 3, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This is merely a case of a poorly done port that doesn't even come close to utilizing the Switch's capabilities. Stop talking like the Switch can't run a 3DS game at 1080p.
Bro Remasters and remakes are completely different, GC and Wii remasters should be able to run at 60fps but the reason TTYD doesn’t is because it’s a remake, It doesn’t have the same source code and the game looks way better so of course it wont run at 60fps
@@corey2232 If TTYD was just the GCN game upscaled, I would have agreed with you. But the game has Origami King-like visual fidelity (not quite on the same level, but almost). I think it's fair to expect the game to run like this, even though I think they should have prioritized frame rate for the remake. This is more likely a case of setting a different priorities, rather than incompetence.
60 dollars is pretty wild to ask for sice thos was one of the games they re released as a Nintendo select game for 20 dollars later in the wiis life, and on wii u it was also 20 dollars on e shop. So now magical its worth 40 more dollars than before.

This assumes that the game is in active development and trailer material is recreated anew for each subsequent trailer. The game could as well be finished for months and the trailers are just using different footage from different stages of development.
Who is doing that low-quality port already? Completely shameful. Nintendo needs to do more quality-checks for their games with some of their affiliates, it's been going down a dangerous slippery slope lately.
OST quality has nothing to do with the developer. But with the sound harware you have. Switch hardware is BAD for music. 3ds had a GOOD sound hardware, just like Wii and WiiU.
@SmartZero-f8e "3DS has good sound". Yeah, sure. How is the Switch hardware even bad for music? I don't get it. If you go by the speakers, they're still miles ahead of the ones the 3DS models use.
I'm really hoping this is all just out of date footage. This is my preferred game of the Retro DKC duo and I've been waiting for a definitive release for a while free of motion controls.
I played the demo for Peach and that’s all I needed to play. I played Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon on the 3DS and it was alright, but I couldn’t stand the mission based structure of the game. I get they did that for quick pick up and play sessions, but let me explore the damn mansion without having to restart every 20 minutes.
At 6:38, remember that the new trailer for the Switch version (where the Kongs now look less furry), was released only by Nintendo UK. Meanwhile, the old trailer was also released by Nintendo of America, so maybe that has something to do with the Kongs’ graphical downgrade between the 2 trailers, but I’m not certain. I certainly hope the graphics in the U.S. copies of the game end up looking the same as they did in the original trailer, but I won’t get my hopes up until I know for sure.
Other than the water on the beach and some lighting effects that got fixed in the newest trailer, pretty much every graphical change I've seen from this port either looks better than the Wii version or at least doesn't look objectively worse to me.
Seems like they didn't wait for someone to capture all the footage on the most up to date build and used stuff they had on hand from older stuff considering stuff being out of wack inbetween shots if I was a developer on this I'd be livid at the marketing team for the inconsistency
Honestly if the game has all the content the Wii and 3ds versions had and looks better the majority of the time I am alright with it as me as a dk fan just needs something and though I wish it was a new game I am hopeful that a new dk will appear on the next console instead of another remaster like dk hd or tropical freeze
So the games industry trend is to redo old games but worse? "Experience the same thing again but not as good and pay double the price!!! Get yours now"
@@Sairiui At least in TTYD's case it got a bunch of small refinements and even some new content, frame rate aside. Meanwhile I don't even know what happened here.
Because the comparisons show different changes. More importantly, why would Nintendo put older changes in a newer showcase video? Shows they don't care about quality control..
Hmm… very mixed… I will say we have no idea when this footage was taken. It could have been a week ago or a month ago. So they still have time to fix things, just not a lot. We have about 75ish days before launch, so there running out of time. I would say there at least aware of the problems now, but I’m not even sure that’s true with the fur textures being downgraded this time around. There’s only a few graphical issues I have with the game now so hopefully those are patched up
This was one of my favorite 3DS games because it's so dam good and I wasn't used to DKC when it dropped. I'd never played one yet. Kirby Triple deluxe is another Good one.
Yes, it looks bad, but I've seen people here compare it to Sonic Colors Ultimate, which just, no. This remaster is nowhere close to how horrendous that game was.
The forest lighting improvements give me hope that this stuff is just in an unfinished state, and it will be improved for release. But in case it isn’t I’m definitely holding out until comparison videos come in. This is the only DKC game I haven’t completed so I want to experience it right.
All I really want is a remaster of the "Country" trilogy, sort of like they did with Sonic Origins. Still the original games, but widescreen and HD. If not that, then a brand new game. I'm getting really tired of playing DK Returns.
My thought process on the water is that they made those changes because the Switch is absolutely terrible with transparency when it comes to performance and how it visually looks even compared to the Wii and GameCube. Hopefully the water on the beach level is improved at least somewhat by release though.
It's not really just the Switch, transparency means you have to render each pixel where it's used multiple times. Though for the water it seems a bit weird, given that the same look can be achieved without transparency. I think it's just unfinished parts being shown too early.
So rumors say Nin is asking for 3rdparties to do remasters but can't remaster their DKC 1, 2 & 3 SNES in HD. I would love to see the graphics in UE5 2D with real time lighting etc. Definitely a miss opportunity.
Believe it or not, I’d prefer if the SNES DKC games stayed as 2D sprite games. I think that the 2D sprites going for a 3D style is a staple of the SNES games and adds to the immersion and the art style of the original games.
@@kingjiy2778to be fair , the original dkc trilogy are sprites of 3d models , everything in that game is basically a 3D model but due to hardware limitations they had to make sprites of the assets cause the console couldn’t do 3D ( other than 3d trickery like f-zero , mario kart , starfox ) so a part of me would love a version where they get the original assets or make something look like the original models and just show how the game would have been made if the console could handle those models
Sorry if this comes across as obvious, but the graphical issues likely stem from the possibility that this is an HD port of the 3DS version, not the Wii version. If they had to remaster the Wii version, then they would have had to import the 3DS levels into the Wii version and then overhaul the visuals. Meanwhile, remastering the 3DS version with all of the content in tact means they just have to give it a spit shine. Unfortunately, this means they have to fix some of the 3DS blemishes that weren't issues on the Wii, hence some of the problems like the water and framerate. (Maybe, idk entirely what I'm talking about, but this is just my theory)
This is why emulation is still so prevalent. You pick an old game and boot it up with higher resolution and better effects (if you use something like ReShade). This company doesn't even do the minimum effort to sell this Remaster and yet they charge 60 USD for this... I'm not gonna pay it.
Imagine if you could play Donkey Kong Country Returns for $20 in HD with no missing effects in its original, intended visual presentation. And the best part is, YOU CAN PLAY IT TODAY! That’s what you can do with Dolphin Emulator. And you can buy a used copy of this game for Wii like I did and then backup your copy to your computer by easily homebrewing your Wii.
I don't care too much about those little details and is not because I'm a conformist. I'm getting it because I always wanted to play this one and love DK, but probably they are gonna fixing it when it gets release. I hope so!
Since the first trailer, I’ve always questioned why this remake doesn’t have the graphics of the Tropical Freeze remake. It’s genuinely one of the best looking games ever and I really expected DKCR HD to follow in its footsteps. In my opinion, with the way the graphics are looking now, I’d even say that (and this is a *very* bold statement) the Wii version looks better. I don’t know what it is, but the whole game just looks very flat to me, even with the better resolution.
Donkey Kong once again getting the shaft. . . there's zero reason for this game to look worse in any capacity, especially at a premium $60. It's sad because this game really is fantastic.
@benmalsky9834 It's not nitpicking. Nintendo is a multi-billion dollar corporation and Donkey Kong Country is a beloved franchise - there are zero excuses for things to be this way. Let's also consider there already exists an official HD port of this game that doesn't have this sub-standard fidelity that was region / platform exclusive, not to mention dolphin emulator exists as well. Yes, it's cool we're getting the extra 3DS port levels in this release but I'd rather the game be polished quite frankly, and it's a slap in the face to price it at $60 when the game has already been re-released before AND wasn't even $60 brand new any of those times. You call it nitpicking but I say people like you are settling for less. Metroid Prime Remastered makes this port look bad and greedy and that's just the reality of things.
@ I honestly hate how bitter you are. You should really lighten up and actually ENJOY games for once instead of complaining here on RUclips all the time.
This is all “fog wall in Dark Souls Remastered looks worse” level stuff. Barring some catastrophic set of bugs that make the Switch version objectively worse, this stuff is luckily all immaterial.
@@Sairiui The Pokemon games on the Switch had significantly bigger issues, especially Scarlet and Violet. TTYD also looks 10x better than on older consoles, (nor was it twice the price,) so that's also a completely different scenario. This is clearly just a lower effort release, which I don't particularily care for, but it's not even remotely comparable to being a broken mess like some Switch Pokemon releases.
Nintendo knows these half assed ports sell like hot cakes. Why would they put in any effort when they know Nintendo drones will buy it anyways. The only way Nintendo (or really any company) is going to change, is if they are forced too.

Nintendo should REALLY needs to make a Super Brand Newest Donkey Kong Video Game.
Agreed
An open world with all the kongs like 64
_Super Brand Newest Donkey Kong Video Game_ (2025)
Like “Donkey Kong World”.
Based on Super Mario Odyssey. Donkey Kong and the kongs travel around the world, bumping into not only the jungle, but different places like islands, forest, modern cities, and maybe kingdoms.
To spice things up, he might even bump into some cameos (maybe cameo Islands, besides or more than just the Mario series at least). The DK crew can even be involved for the finale.
@ And with King K. Rool in it.
Might be intentional art direction
Because that's on a whole other level. This is just an HD reamster, not a remake. It's A LOT of work to make new character models. It creates new problems that need to be solved, and so on and on.
That would make it a remaster not a port
@@ordersquid38that would make it a remake
This game is being worked on by forever entertainment in case you're wondering.
Tropical Freeze is on sale this weekend, don't miss out.
Amazing game!
It’s better Han this game anyway
I liked the darkness on Wii. The lighting Retro used was the same in Metroid Prime 3. I hope they fix some of these issues like the waves on the beach
Game comes out in 4 weeeks...
I just stick to my Wii for this game.
This is just aimed specifically at you, but those who never played the original game.
Do you understand what it means to make things accessible to the newer generations? That’s the beauty of things like this.
@@benmalsky9834 I would rather buy a Wii for my kids. Newer doesn't always mean better.
@@SairiuiBuying a wii and the original is literally cheaper 😭
@@drewa4235 You comment doesn't have logic. Wii is very weak in comparison with Switch which is capable of running Doom 2016 and Eternal.
People will be like: "This is fine! Take my money!"
They should give us the entire dkc show as a separate application when you buy it as compensation.
Compensation for what? As long as the game is still fun to play, that’s what matters.
@@benmalsky9834 Compensation for looking like trash and still charging full price.

@NathAnarchy45 It does surpass the Wii. In resolution. Hahahah! And ya get the 3ds levels and it's 60fps which the 3ds version wasn't.

Honestly if the game has all the content the Wii and 3ds versions had and looks better the majority of the time I am alright with it as me as a dk fan just needs something and though I wish it was a new game I am hopeful that a new dk will appear on the next console instead of another remaster like dk hd or tropical freeze

@@RJS2003 Why is frame rate even so important for a turn based RPG?
I'd say having twice the processing power per frame would be an okay trade.
How do you know the second trailer isn’t using earlier footage than the first in some scenes? Things like that have happened in game trailers before.
Even that game was fine in my opinion.
Even that game was fine in my opinion.Like with Sonic Colors, the game itself is still great, and that’s all the matters.

I already owned this in Wii and DS. No friggen way I'm buying it on Switch too.
2025 the year of the Donke
@ yeah that’s true. Perhaps it’s just a work in progress scrolling texture that will look a lot better in the final release.
So rumors say Nin is asking for 3rdparties to do remasters but can't remaster their DKC 1, 2 & 3 SNES in HD. I would love to see the graphics in UE5 2D with real time lighting etc. Definitely a miss opportunity.
Source?
Remake, not remaster.
They would be sick if they looked just like the renders Rare made, before they had to scale them down for the SNES
I wish they at the very least added new content so this stuff wouldn't be as bad
You can now play all the 3DS exclusive levels at 60 fps

This is why emulation is still so prevalent. You pick an old game and boot it up with higher resolution and better effects (if you use something like ReShade).
This company doesn't even do the minimum effort to sell this Remaster and yet they charge 60 USD for this...
I'm not gonna pay it.
Same.
what did we learn?
the budget always goes into the big nintendo games.
Dolphin Emulator is a pain in the us to set up the controls for games that don't support the classic or GameCube controller.
"Tropical Freeze _remake_"
tropical freeze switch wasnt a remake, the game was just cross gen between wii u and switch.
But there were no new trailers released, is this still the same trailer from six months ago?
Nintendo UK/Europe posted a general DK trailer yesterday which had new footage
I think they just made the port HD of the 3Ds version
Yep. They’re comparing it to the Wii version which wasn’t even the base for the remaster. Thats likely the reason for lots of the graphical issues.
That's what I'm thinking as it has the 3ds levels.
I never played this game in the wii so I'll wait to play in the switch 2 with better graphics
Donkey Kong once again getting the shaft. . . there's zero reason for this game to look worse in any capacity, especially at a premium $60. It's sad because this game really is fantastic.
He’s not “get the shaft” if one of his games is coming back. You are all just nitpicking while the gameplay is the most important part.
@ In my opinion, how the game looks does matter as much as how it plays and how fun it is.
@ It IS nitpicking because you’re just like everyone else how says that graphics and appearances matter over gameplay and fun factor.
You mean like the Pokemon games on Switch? Or if it ran at half the framerate than older consoles for twice the price just like Paper Mario TTYD?
@@Sairiui The Pokemon games on the Switch had significantly bigger issues, especially Scarlet and Violet.
TTYD also looks 10x better than on older consoles, (nor was it twice the price,) so that's also a completely different scenario.
This is clearly just a lower effort release, which I don't particularily care for, but it's not even remotely comparable to being a broken mess like some Switch Pokemon releases.
Honestly a lot of this feels like nitpicking considering the average player likely wont notice or care about these details.
Exactly!!!!
That's what i've been trying to say, but do Nintendorks understand NOOOO
even if players dont notice, the game looking worse than it did over a decade ago is an objective downgrade that you don't need to defend
People will notice if a game that used to run at 60 fps now only runs at 30 fps for twice the price.
Nintendo knows these half assed ports sell like hot cakes. Why would they put in any effort when they know Nintendo drones will buy it anyways. The only way Nintendo (or really any company) is going to change, is if they are forced too.
This guys straight nit picking. It’s an unfinished game trailer. And most the stuff you won’t even notice without having the original to right next to the remaster to compare.
I’d rather a had remake of the original DKC games and the one on the N64
*You're looking for flaws everywhere, but if you didn't have a constructive idea for the episode, it's hard to blame you for that. Nintendo produces top-quality games, and if there's any blurriness, it means it was meant to be there.* LOL
The point is that a "remaster" priced at 60$ shouldn't be looking WORSE than its wii counterpart
In the original you can see the giant DK statue is holding a Wii remote in the remake you can see the giant DK statue, is holding a red joy con
there’s a face hidden in the background trees at 2:48
it’s spooky
I don't see it.
Imagine Mario Galaxy 2 with seizure inducing glitches like what happened with Sonic Colors Ultimate.
0% of these items would have been noticeable or immersion breaking. Weve gone from splitting hairs to splitting microbes.
It would be cool if the DK statue changed what color Joy-con it's holding depending on what joy-con you have. That would be an excuse for $60

I hope it gets delayed to fix some issues.
I never played this game so the nitpicks won’t matter to me but this remaster could certainly be much better
