If you think Ian Gillan had some pipes on this song, you need to hear him sing "Child In Time"
Too true a great song.
The live version
Live from made in Japan.
Make sure it's a video from the 70's.
or Lazy, that is another classic
Jon Lord - greatest organist in rock history. And a blistering solo from Ritchie Blackmore
Ritchie blackmore was the first name in a band with Dion.
I think that says enough
Well, certainly one of the greatest
Back in the day , you bought the album, which was art , took the record out played it both sides start to finish over and over , met your mates at the pub and talked about it arguing about the best tracks , Brilliant, and you had albums all the time from purple black Sabbath zeppelin and lots more , tribute band all girl , called strange kind of woman there absolutely brilliant lots of there stuff on RUclips. Enjoy 😉
Hes def on the Rushmore with Emerson and Wakeman
Rick Wakeman on Line 1 for you.
the best band ever
Ian Paice. A complete monster who NEVER gets his due. Kia kaha \m/
The best to ever pick up the drumsticks
You're not wrong mate. One of the greats. I always thought he was highly regarded but perhaps I'm just an old cunt. Haven't listened to this track in years and it still kicks.
@@jason2768 he used to get a lot of respect back in the day. no too much now
He gets his due from those that matter.
The effing tempo he creates and locks into, is beyond belief.
Everything about deep purple is just perf. Pls do child in time, pls plsss. Deep purple in rock was one of the albums that marked my childhood.
Is my favourite also. Older than me but a timeless perfect best of rock.
Purple was my first intro to rock music.
But what about Fireball? Did classic Deep Purple start with it? Although I really like both the 1969 album and the Concerto for Group and Orchestra ...
It is fantastic to watch people reacting to rock and roll that I loved as a teenager in the 70s. Deep Purple, one of my favorites.
in the early 70's they were part of the 3 bands known as The Unholy Trinity. the other 2 were Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Any song on their album Machine Head is excellent.
And you forgot to mention, and still standing as the last of the unholy trinity..Deep Purple.
I dunno. I was around then, and I don't remember them being called that until recently. There was Hawkwind, Uriah Heep, Edgar Broughton, Ten Years After, Free and others, not just those three. All in the earlly pre-punk 1970s. Mid 70s saw even more rock bands, metal and otherwise.
@@LynneConnolly but it was Sabbath that the genre of heavy metal was termed especially coming out of Birmingham were all the factory's were heavy metal industries
@@LynneConnolly Pink Floyd
Yes, we know that they were. News! Im here to edjucate young people....
You must watch the 1970 version of Child in time....you wont be disappointed Wolf Hunterz...
But from the made in japan album!
Made in Japan version
Ya lets do it
They were a fantastic band. Probably their best album.
I must say Live in Japan is still the best album...
I'm going with "in rock"
Deep purple the grandfather of Rock!🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥
I was lucky enough to see this band about 9 or 10 times - three times with this line up. still, 50 years later, some of the best gigs of my life.
Me too
deep purple - child in time (live 1970). one of the best live performances ever
Even at 64 I am still a fan rip Jon Lord.
I'm 56 ain't it good to know you were part of purple and Zeppelin
Im 65 brother,always will be a fan........
I'm 70 and still rockin'.
Am I the youngest here??? Obviously yes,because I'm 53 y.o 😜
Anyway, Jon Lord was my musical and man crush.when he died,I cried the same way like I cried when my father died.
@@ellielittlecutegorgongirl708 he was also into classical music.
Deep Purple was the first concert I ever attended. The Machine Head (the album this song is on) tour, in Phoenix, in '72. Memories!
I'm taking a stroll through Happy Town, AKA the comments section. I'm home, amongst my peeps and we all love Deep Purple together. 😁💜
Great performance
Great musicians
Legendary band
POOR camera work
DEEP DEEP rabbit hole with these guys!
Lots of great tunes mentioned here
The best band in the history of the music. Been fan of them since 1979
What a bloody banger of a song, love my hard rock
As a kid I always smashed my head on the table, headbanging on this song...ouchi ouch 😜😀
Leebay That's exactly what it was called at the time, the term heavy metal came a few years later.
fun fact, during an interview they were asked how they wrote songs and Ritchie Blackmore jammed a riff and Ian Gillan started singing over the top and they came up with this masterpiece in about 10 minutes
..on the way to a gig in Portsmouth and they opened the show with it.
My '71 Chevelle was MY Highway Star. She was marvelous. Musta played this song 1,000 times through my Pioneer Supertuner and my Jensen Tri-axels.
Yes! Finally, someone did the BEST version of this song. From their Made in Japan album, one of the best live albums ever!
non, LE MEILLEUR !
Sad that music and video doesnt belong to each other. Music is from "made in Japan" as you said but the video material is from a tour in Scandinavia.
I prefer the Nobody's Perfect version. Made in Japan is overrated compared to Nobody's Perfect.
@@TayR0C The problem with "Nobody´s perfect" is that it is partly overdubbed while "Made in Japan" is 100% live.
nope, its from Copenhagen 1972
This is Mark II lineup of Deep Purple: Jon Lord: keyboard, Ian Gillan: singer, Roger Glover: Bassist, Ian Paice: drums, and Ritchie Blackmore: guitar. Both Ians and Roger are only members from this lineup are playing today as Deep Purple. Ritchie has his own band. Jon Lord died some years ago. I am glad that both of you are reacting some classics that influenced today's bands. More please.
Jon Lord is a big influence for genres like Progressive and Power Metal Bands. He was amazing!!!
you have forgotten the Mulle on the drums Sir Ian Pace he was there from the start,
@@remcovandenheuvel1315 I have mentioned Ian Paice, thru out all the lineups from Mark I to IV, he is the original. Mark IV is both Ians, Roger, guitarist who replaced Ritchie, Steve Morse, and keyboardist who replaced famed keyboard legend, Jon Lord, Don Airey.
I was lucky enough to see Ian, Ian, and Roger live in 2004 with two other guys.
The best line up
This is REAL music.
Deep Purple - Child in Time Live 1970
Uh, not from made in Japan? ..ooook...
Child in time live 1970 tv performance is straight 🔥
I've heard the album version of this song many times, but never a live version. This is one of my favourite Deep Purple songs, they are all rocking especially Jon Lord on the keyboards. A classic.
Mark please listen to Live in Japan it's better than the Studio version, Enjoy the experience,
The audio is the album cut from the Made In Japan album. The video is actually of a different performance that someone did an excellent job splicing onto the audio track.
This is a made in japan(live in japan) version. It's a historical album!
70's no filters no nothing just pure talent
This record changed my life
DOUBLE SHOT OF MY BABY'S LUV YA YA YA ! ! THE song ends with a Super HIGH note ☝️ and the lead guitar player preceding, WOAH AND WOW SUPER SUPER STAR SONG HIGH WA* S ✝️ A R
from the album 'machine head' - it was in every rocker's collection including mine. 19 years old in '72 and i was headbanging to this before anyone knew what headbanging was ! great times
Child in Time live 1970...best rock performance in history
Richie Blackmore's guitar is so good. This Band was special. Love those 60s and 70s Classic Rock Bands.
rock history ! Our times music would be nothing without their influence from the past
whenever I lay down to rest, I'll think back in time. Born '66 I was raised with the best music humans ever made. My first vinyl had been ABBA best of, BUT my second was . . . MADE IN JAPAN ! :-) Since that day I know where I belong to and I don't regred a single day of it.
This is one of those songs that when you hear it in the car it makes you go 80.
Robert, if I had all the money back from the speeding tix I got playing this song through an Infinity sound system while driving, I'd be rich today.
Awesome reaction! "Child In Time" by Deep Purple is a must.
Deep purple GEANT🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍👍👍
Saw Deep Purple live at the NEC Birmingham in the 80s its the best concert I have ever been to. Their supporting band was Bad Company absolutely brilliant.
Oh my, what a spectacular live performance! I think i will watch this video maybe a hundred more times. Also the reaction was awesome, thanks.
Said it before, saying it now - "Highway Star" is the ULTIMATE song for high-speed driving.
You sound surprised at Ian Gillen's vocals - which means you need to do much more Deep Purple. Gillen is a powerhouse like no other. Deep Purple is probably the mightiest band ever - I rate them above Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin together - and now you know why. And why are you not familiar with Deep Purple? Ask anyone you know who plays the guitar, and they'll tell you that the very first riff they learned was "Smoke On The Water". This is like a Metal band not knowing "Paranoid" or "Whole Lotta Love".
When The Beatles and The Stones hit, Jon Lord looked at their guitars and said "so what - an organ is MUCH louder". And then he demonstrated exactly what he meant. Technical note - that organ in the background in your videos can have just as nasty a tone as Jon Lord's - do what he did, skip the Leslie and jack it straight into a 100-watt Marshall stack. Try this experiment, if you dare. (Oh, please dare, please dare ! )
My pedal ALWAYS goes to metal when this song comes on! For 42 years.
Vocalist Ian Gillan played Jesus in the original version of Jesus Christ Superstar
The album is AMAZING!
And he also was lead vocalist on Black Sabbath's "Born Again".
@@SLAYERSWINE1 I absolutely LOOOOOOVE this album! Have it on CD and vinyl
@SmokeRanch I see what you did there lol
That's in the film, before the film there was an album
This is from there legendary live album made in Japan.. The video you were watching was from Copenhagen Denmark 1972..synced quite well I might add-check out child in time Live from this same album Best guitar solo you’ll ever hear and amazing screams by Mr. Gillan.
There are no bands like that today The best real rock is fucking amazing!!!
Seen deep 2 times both in 1985. Perfect strangers tour and the Texas jam Dallas cotton bowl. This is my favorite deep song. Keep on rocking my friends
there is a story about this song, that they were on a tour bus heading to a gig and a journalist asked how they wrote songs and someone picked up a guitar (I assume Ritchie Blackmore)and started strumming Ian the vocalist started singing and Highway Star was born they played it that night on stage
Wow I didn't expect it haha. Good choice guys
In my opinion they are at the same level as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
Great Reaction Deep Purples best line up , Vocals Ian Gillan , Lead guitar Ritchie Blackmore , Keyboards Jon Lord , Bass Roger Glover , Drums Ian Paice .
Got in to purple in 1970 while at school, so introduces me to rock that also introduced me to a host of bands like humble pie, Savoy brown, uria heep , Jethro tull , blodwyn pig etc
DEEP PURPLE the Best forever
This band live are untouchable!
I agree that you reacting the most influential classics is just great. Keep on that road once and a while. Most of the bands that we see playing hard rock or heavy metal today do know that these are the guys that made them buy the bass, guitar or drums. In addition to "Highway Star" I also wished that you react on "Painkiller" and "Sign of the Southern Cross" but they were blocked. Hope we can find a way to see you react those classic songs too. Best wishes, Aslak from Finland :-) Stay safe, stay healthy!
Taking me back to high school now, you two are. Man the seventies just had some of the best music!
I remember in 1974 being 15 yrs old going to CAL JAM I and watching DEEP PURPLE PRETTY MEMORIZING THEN TOO! Remember ABC's IN Concert series televised with KLOS Broadcasting Simultaneously!
Just saw Deep Purple last year for the first time in over thirty year, and honestly Ian Gillan can still bring it.
Audio is obviously from the Made In Japan album, video from a gig earlier in the year.
If Ritchie Blackmore wasnt one of the biggest asses in music. He'd be on everyone's top 5 list of greatest guitarists of all time.
He's awesome. And he knows it. He also lets everyone else know it, too.
Ritchie fucking Blackmore one of the best guitarists ever! watch him go!
Too bad the person filming didn't film him while he was soloing or Jon Lord.
yeah all 20 seconds of him
@@richardsuarez2146 your mum did not mind moron
@@MsGeoffh I meant the dumb cameraman only filming Ritchie for about 20 seconds .not the timing of his lead or anything. You got mad huh? Blackmore is God. I do like the way u stuck up for him tho
You really should check them out doing “sweet child in time “ live, Ian’s vocals are amazing thanks 🙏
One of the best live albums ever, Made in Japan, I bought this new in 1972......
Ian gillan one of the best vocalists EVER. Man could he ever scream. Such high notes. Jon Lord one of the finest keyboardists. Roniie Dio and the other guys aren't too shabby either.
That’s Ian gillan on vocals..Dio was an unknown in 1972.
That Ritchie Blackmore blows me away every time I hear him
I recommend Made in Japan best live album of all times you must listen to that masterpiece! from this band
The greatest lineup in rock! Jon Lord, keyboards, Roger Glover, Bass..Ian Paice, drums, Ian Gilliam, vocals and the one and only Ritchie Blackmore on Guitar!
Love you both, so awesome that you're experiencing these classics, epic channel 🤘
Still to this day,one of THE BEST songs to play while cruising down the road
Definition of heavy metal!!
One of the best bands of all time. John Lord a master on the keyboard. Blackmore a true artist on the guitar. Ian such a masterfull drummer. The whole band was so amazing. Check out the entire Machine head album. You won't be disappointed
Jon Lord keyboard, Ian Pace drums, Roger Glover bass, Ritchie Blackmore lead guitar and Ian Gillan with the vocal pipes, no auto tunning, all live, one shot to perform at your best!
The video is from a show in Copenhagen, the audio is from Made in Japan. Old mashup but it works and it rocks!
these guys they love it the rock and roll music !
That's what I'm yelling when I'm flying down the highway...I'm a Highway Staaarrrrr...... Next should be "Space Truckin"!
You can now check "Listening to a Hammond organ connected to a Marshall amp" from your bucket list. :D
Fun fact: The audio for this clip is from the live album Made in Japan (one of the best live rock albums ever made), but the video is from a concert in Copenhagen on the same tour. I believe I heard Lars Ulrich say that was the first concert he ever went to. You can watch the whole Copenhagen concert on RUclips
Yeah the video is edited down to match the audio. The intro in Denmark is a lot longer. And Blackmore's solo is very different (not his best to be honest)
If you heard the Copenhagen one Gillan says in the beginning of this song this is off our new album Machine Head which is going to be released next month and it’s likely to be our opening song .
My favourite version is from "Nobody's Perfect" which came out in 1988. Best live album along with "Rock In Rio" by Iron Maiden in 2001
The keyboard my goodness and that final scream!!!
Deep Purple was probably the first band I fell in love with. I was just a 70s kid. And like the first romance and the first girl I kissed .. it was unforgettable. The big LOVE was yet to come in the form of Led Zeppelin IV.
I still rank Deep Purple as one of the five most important musical experiences of my life. I even got to see the original setting in 1984 after the release of Perfect Strangers. Cheers 🍺
That Perfect Strangers tour rocked. I saw them at The Cow Palace in SF.
Ritchie Blackmore looks so young and can he ever play that guitar. He and his wife have a band called Blackmores knight. Check it out. Godd stuff.
Wolfs greetings hunters ... travis and Suzi my name is fher am from Costa Rica I really like the music of his band ... and I also recommend listening to their song "FREEBIRD" live version of LYNNEAR Skynner August 21st, 1976 ... this song has particularly the most epic guitar solo in music history ... I appreciate them taking into account my recommendation not will regret it .... they are very fond in COSTA RICA ... BYE....👍👍👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
I promise you will never witness a greater Keybordest then the Legend John Lord..
Rest in Peace your legacy will live on forever.
While you guys were up in the sky waiting to come down to rock your asses off, we were ... well, rocking our asses off. YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Tight; flawless.
Ritchie Blackmore Ian Gillan Jon Lord Ian Paice Roger Glover..excellent musicians and knew what rock is really about! Deep Purple was great
Oh, yeah, I recognize this song. It's so-o-o groovy!
loved the reaction, tnx guys. richie blackmore is my hero, he is on such a lot of classic records, and on even less classic amazing albums..
Love you guys !! Rock'in to vintage Deep Purple !! Me too...
Deep Purple is one of the most spectacular rock bands and Highway Star great song, rock lives in us !!
Saw DP in open air venue at night...Memphis Overton Park Shell...1971........was unreal,Cactus opened for them......About 72 degrees on a cool Spring nite......Crowd was about 4000 people......It was sheer bliss.......What a show
of course you do you wanna rock as you should! just do it!
Don't you just love how the camera shows the singer flipping his hair instead of Ritchie playing that awesome solo?
Look, it doesn't matter when where or what year you hear ANYTHING from MACHINE HEAD, YO MIND GONE BE BLOWED! I was born in '59 I know of what I know, LMBO
DEEP PURPLE, purple is the colour of royalty and they were and STILL ARE the ROYALTY OF HEAVY METAL!
Absolutely the best
I love that song!!!!!
Ian Gillan on vocals. He also sang as Jesus on the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar
Classic rock metal deep purple🤟
Legends. Helped to start it all in my world of playing.
They are still touring in 2023 with three of the original members and still rocking!!
Looks like the wolf hunters just got SNARED.
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Lede Zeppelin = hard rock.
This song kicks so much ass, it kicks us into the next century!!! One of the first Speed Metal songs ever created!
You’re faces!! Always priceless. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🤘🏼🤘🏼
