    The lead guitarist, Tony Iommi, invented heavy metal. On the day he was due to leave his factory job to be a full time musician a work accident sliced the tips of some of his fingers off. He thus had to change the way he played, producing this heavy sound. The beat created came from the iron and steel mills where he lived in Birmingham. The giant heavy hammers from the mills could be heard across the city with this heavy rhythmic thudding.

    • @Watching4Fun_
      @Watching4Fun_ 4 года назад +4

      Just to add a little. Tony's fingers are very sensitive so he has to tune his guitar lower than normal so the strings don't bother them. In a normal E tuning the strings are rather tight and can cut into the skin if your fingers are not accustomed to it. This is why it is so hard for guitarists that are just learning to play, to get the sound right. Because they are not playing with the same tuning.

      That is pretty brainless. Those who make statements like that and agree with it, use but a minute fraction of their brains ability to actually think. Metal was coming, with or without Sabbath. LED ZEPPELIN had already infused the sound into some of their songs. DEEP PURPLE did also. What you feebles want and wish are not the same as what actually is, and in this case what was SOON coming. Led Zeppelin influenced the metal that came soon after.

    • @markuse3472
      @markuse3472 4 года назад

      @Cryptic Hippie Not so. For me, not influenced by pop culture stupidity, it Iron Maiden and Metallica who "perfected" metal. Again: what Sabbath did was sound darker. What Zeppelin did was influence all that that was to come. But also Sabbath. But from what I have seen and read, it is Led Zeppelin who was first influencing all the hard rock (of all forms) that was to come. Lyrics and imagery have NOTHING to do with metal and it is totally like pop culture foolishness you saying those two are vital for what metal is : metal is the sound. There are plenty Love/Relationship metal songs. Do a speed metal song about love, peace, uplifting, whatever, it IS going to be metal. Lyrics and image are stupidity to be labeled a reason for metal to be metal. Led Zeppelin were the first. But pop culture is obviously your real source for an education so go figure.

    You talked about production, I think today production takes the place of what then was raw talent and energy, they invented the sound everyone try's to mimic with production, and they did it with 4 guys and a couple of amps, mikes & P A ,just my opinion though, they invented METAL!

    Bill Ward the drummer beats those drums like they owe him money....... At this concert they moved from one song to the next, non-stop... At one point everyone went off stage and Ward kept on playing. Maybe they had to pee...??? They came back out and continued the show. It was just unreal how good it was. Ward along with the others set the bar, so to speak. At what a rock concert was supposed to be like. Plus the sound! They were first in several areas of this style of music!!!!! One of the best shows I ever went to.........

    Tony Iommi lost the tips of two of his fingers in an industrial accident. So he had to detune his guitar about three semitones so the strings didn't hurt his damaged fingers. Amplifiers became 100w and 4x12 cabs were invented. Tony came up with killer riff after killer riff.
    Result: heavy metal

Tony the guitar master is missing his finger tips on his right hand. Yes the hand he frets the guitar with --- does not matter!!!!! One of the best shows I ever went to..... EPIC...... Yeah it's true, every rock and roll band after Sabbath, copied as much as they could of Sabbaths sound, vocalizations and lyrics to one degree or another in order to become and have the success of anything comparable to Sabbath's status as Heavy Metal gods that they've become in the minds of any and all head bangers of today, yesterday and beyond!

Ozzy would sing any bollocks When they were happy with the song geezer would write the lyrics
