People need to be reminded once in awhile who the architects of metal truly are, Black Sabbath of course. They shocked the world with their ferocity and could take the metal bands of 52 years later to school to this day. This was music on a different level from a different world. The world is still feeling the effects of Sabbath today and look at how relevant this song is today as it was back then. This is timeless music with virtuoso beast musicians in their area of expertise. There will be no band in the foreseeable future like Sabbath.

Great reaction!! Okay, I was born in 1960, and was lucky enough to have an older brother that showed me great music. I believe the drums back then did NOT bounce the drumstick back like modern drums, so the drummers had to hit harder to be heard. And there was no heavy metal back then, we just called it all rock. And groups back then seemed to have important messages they wanted to get across, and passion to do so. NOT just to make a buck. Maybe that's the difference, because I still find the best music came out in my youth, and that is still what I listen to today. Very few modern groups are to my taste.
Just imagine living in a time when the current groups producing new albums included Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Who, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple and many many others. And albums only cost $10 or $20. Same for concerts!! I've been to 30+ concerts, never paid over $20 CDN.

Having been born in 1962 I grew up listening to this stuff. Yes, pink Floyd, deep purple, Jethro tull etc. Also, take into consideration that the double kick peddle hadn't been invented at this time. as a drummer of over 40 years I think that the double kick is over used these days. Modern rock can't hold a candle to the stuff that was being produced back then, and all without the technology bestowed upon us these days.

Nice reaction to the song. 1970 wasn't just about the Beatles. Hard rock has been around since 1968. Led Zeppelin's first album was released that year, and Deep Puple made hard music. Jimmy Hendrix created tones on the guitar that no one had ever heard before. Black Sabbath fell into this class of bands.

@@jackalope5589 It's true Led Zeppelin were far more versatile and wouldn't even want to be called a heavy metal band. Black Sabbath also played hard rock, because the term heavy metal for a genre of music only existed since the late 1970s. I was referring to the Beatles comparison. There has long been harder music, but at the end of the sixties even the Beatles delivered a really hard number with Helters Skelter, which was also covered by metal bands.

I always thought Animal from the Muppets was based on Bill Ward. The picture of him playing on Volume 4, with his hair flying, beads of sweat going everywhere, hands raised in the air and using the backs of his sticks. Just raw power.

An otherworldly performance makes up for Ozzy ablibing the lyrics with mixed results. No doubt they were in total beast mode here. Bill Ward crushes the drum kit! For anyone who loves this song, listen to the studio original to get the true lyrics and an immaculate mix. They also do a great live version of War Pigs for their tour for The End, great sound and mix. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶

I think this was before they'd recorded the song for the album and Ozzy was still messing around with the lyrics. It does have my OCD screaming at him to get the words right though, lol!

Ozzy did okay for most of the song but that last verse was unrecognizable. Does not matter, though, because he made up for it with the tremendous energy and passion he put into his vocal performance

@@dathorndike4908 Yes, early version of War Pigs before the album release, I prefer them doing it at the California Jam 1974, better overall performance by everyone.

I was 16 when this came out. One Friday afternoon my buddies and I left school at lunch went over to our rich friends house because the stereo was awesome. I smoked weed for the third time in my life, got wasted and my friend put this album on. WOW!! Good memories.

This gig is credited with the invention of headbanging. Geezer and Ozzy are equally credited, but this is where it is formally known as starting.

YES, I love Sabbath!!! They were super good back in the day. Jon, That drum kit is fearful Bill Ward would return & beat them again. He works them over like they owe him money... When I saw them there were NO pauses, none. At one point, Ozzie, Geezer, and Tony left the stage. Bill continued to play. From one song into the next one! It was the mid-1970's when I saw them.. Wait until judgement day comes....... I think they were in their early 20's when they did this..!!!! With out any doubt, one of the best concerts I ever went to.. Can you all imagine?

  • @mikebunner3498
    @mikebunner3498 Год назад

Jon you asked what did those drums do to you. At this point, Bill is just warming up. At 3:40 something they pick it up a bit. Sabbath kicked butt & did not take prisoners. You two will see....... ENJOY!!!!! I saw them in the mid-1970's. They ripped our heads in two. Non-stop rock for the entire show. I may be off a little, but I think they were in their early 20's in this video...
My favorite comment ever was these days Ozzie can barely string a sentence together. Yet when he sings you can understand him. May I suggest you all locate & watch Sabbath's NIB. Also you all would like a female cover band. They are Black Sabbitch..... Check them out!

The Beatles released "Helter Skelter" in 1968...Ozzy said that song inspired him.
As did "Revolution ", also by the Beatles.
Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968.
Jimmy Hendrix was doing Purple Haze and playing his guitar with his freaking teeth in the 1960's.
Great reaction but you need to study Rock history 😄

How are you a "metal band" and have never heard Black Sabbath? I know, your not a metal band. ANY SELF RESPECTING METAL BAND would know Sabbath, since ya know THEY FUCKING STARTED METAL!!

  • @mr-wx3lv

1969-72 were probably their heaviest years, after that, the band changed their sound a little. But this is just classic, raw energy rock. It doesn't come any better...

Love your enthusiasm, but don’t get out over your ski’s. Sabbath was absolutely great, but first you must remember they were relegated to fm radio which was an echo of a shadow what it is now. Almost exclusive underground stations playing to tiny markets due to extremely weak signals, so you didn’t hear them with the other groups you mentioned. Also, while they were early metal, they were by no means the first. Ina-gadda-da-vida was out 2 years before War Pigs. Matter of fact, the Beatles (that you blew off) are credited with what many people consider the first “metal” song in 1967 with Helter Skelter. Also, since fm was such a niche thing that most radio’s could not get it.
