Just to make you aware, the actor playing Dumbledore, Richard Harris, died shortly after filming this movie, so he will be portrayed by a different actor, Michael Gambon, in the next film, and the each of the remaining films in the series.
It really amazes me on how many reactors to this franchise never mention it. I wonder if they even notice. For me, I preferred the first one. He used to be a singer. He had a hit with MacArthur Park and Weird Al Yankovic parodied it with Jurassic Park and made an awesome clay mation video for it.
@@melissacampbell2648He was a great actor who also sang in the film “Camelot”. He also appeared in “Unforgiven” (as English Bob), and “Gladiator” among many other movies. He was a good friend and drinking buddy of actor Peter O’Toole and they were both very witty in interviews on talk shows. I happen to love his version (the original one) of MacArthur Park, by the way.
Quite unfortunately I might add
The "I didn't know you could read." Line from Draco Malfoy was improvised by Tom Felton during filming.
Great improv
@@SofaandChillthe part where Jason Isaacs says about Harry being around to save the day and Harry’s response was improvised by Isaacs and Radcliffe.
The movies get darker and more intense as Harry gets older!! Awh can’t wait to see yous react to the next ones!! They get better and better
Hi Vanessa, yeah we have heard that they get darker and more serious! looking forward to them
@@SofaandChill I'm very interested to see your sons reaction to darker films, as I think he was my age when the first movie came out. Great reaction gentlemen.
Salazar wasn’t as simple as some may think. The histories go far back to when people were being murdered & other crazy things between muggles & the wizard kind. He was actually desiring to create this place to not just be a place of learning & curating knowledge but also a fortress against intruders! It’s a longer history that goes into several articles & channels showing this. This was to protect the children and all of wizard kind.
SOME of the halfbloods long ago were used as pawns and essentially moles into the wizarding communities. Even back then; sure, not all hit the ROOT of the judgment upon halfbloods & Muggleborns.
Those like Lucius are practicing a tradition that was once noble that had stronger roots & traditions. It’s so far from that now that most families have fallen into mania. But not his wife. His wife is very cool & is only protecting Malfoy and teach him the ways of that realm and how to act and behave etc etc. He’s more like his mother & loves his mother! she grew up in the Black family tree & her original tree was related to Ravenclaws and had to change their name to something else to keep the line alive. Also. The basilisk was for that reason alone. To defend against intruders & infiltration; perhaps even to weed out LEGIT moles who were bringing danger to wizardkind. Salazar also was the only one to match Rowena Ravenclaw’s mind and originally they were to be betrothed. But ended up with Godric! ❤️
When I first watched the first two movies i thought they were ok. When i watched the third one I was all in. I started reading all the books. When the last book came out I was a 30 something year old waiting in line at the midnight release at the bookstore surrounded by kiddos. Lol. I’ve since read all the books multiple times, watched the movies over and over, and listened to the audio books at least 4 times each. I was actually listening to The Half Blood Prince when your video popped up on my feed.
SAME!! I'm looking forward to the series coming in the upcoming years. It will be nice to see the way they adapt the story from the books, the actors chosen and the fact there will probably be more uses of magic overall. (as CGI and effects only have been getting better with years.)
Congrats on being sorted into Hufflepuff! Hard working, loyal and fair. 🤩 (also the best common room location - by the kitchens!)
Haha, I kind of wish I was in Hufflepuff now :)
The books explain it so much better than the films, but this is something I see a lot of people reacting to the HP movies ask; "Why does Harry keep going back to his Aunt and Uncle's House every Summer? They're such terrible people!"
The answer is; He has to. It's part of the magic that keeps him safe from the Dark Wizards until he is of age and can perform magic (and protect himself) outside of Hogwarts. Wizards under 17 are not allowed to perform magic outside of school.
Can't wait for you to meet my favorite character in the next film. All i'm saying is, take him seriously!
We most certainly will Paul :)
ohhhhh merlin you didnt say that hahhahaha
You both hurt my soul a little and made me laugh. Good job marauder!
belive me, all harry potter movies are fantastic
We have loved these first two...onto the next :)
From the third movie on words there's a different actor for Dumbledore I believe it's Michael Gambon. The actor that played him in the first two passed away shortly after the second movie was released.
That's why Hagrid isn't supposed to do magic. 16 year old Tom Riddle/Voldemort framed Hagrid for Myrtle's death when he was 13 and in his 3rd year at Hogwarts. Hagrid was expelled and his wand snapped in half.
Wands are almost impossible to repair. Usually you just replace them when they start getting worn like the wand Ron was using that was his brother Charlie's old wand. Charlie had gotten a new one and Ron was given the old one to use to save money when he started school.
In the book the basilisk is only about 20-30 feet long but they wanted some big old monster for Harry to fight in thd movie. Aragog was described as being a spider the size of an elephant by comparison.
41:24 the exchange between Harry and Lucius was ad lib. Jason Issacs (Lucius) thought he'd trip up the inexperienced child actor with that line *"Let us hope Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day."* but Daniel Radcliffe just popped back with the most Harry Potter line ever *"Don't worry I will be.".* It was so good that they kept it in the movie.
You’ve made it through the first two movies! Setting up the wizarding world and giving exposition on Harry and Voldemorts history. Now things start to get crazy from here on! Target audience is now for teens. Darker. Scarier. More complex plots. Some people say it becomes more horror than anything else. My favorite book was the 4th, but unfortunately it might be my least favorite movie. Too much to fit into 2hrs. I’m excited to see which are your favorites! They’re all pretty fantastic from here.
Same on the book and movie opinion
I LOVE WATCHING HARRY POTTER REACTIONS YAAAAY
YAYYYYY hope you enjoyed it Vanessa :)
I love that you are watching as father and son. It feels like I'm witnessing a bonding experience before my eyes :) Your dynamic is so wholesome to watch as well. Dad speaking more and always inquiring about what's next to happen, eager to see what his son thinks of it while Son is intently following the story, making sparse but fun comments when something piqued his interest. Also, these movies are amazing and I'm sure that you two will love them. They are in a complete leauge of their own, no other movie series is like this one! The set design is some of the best and most expensive/complicated the world has ever seen. If you enjoy this series enough, I would recommend you to visit the Warner Bro's Harry Potter Studio outside of London. From a fan's perspective it was a really amazing experience. Obviously, another recommendation is to read the books, but I'm sure that you know that already :) I am currently on book 3, which so happens to be, in my opinion and many others, the best film! So I am very much looking forward so seeing your reactions to The Prisoner of Azkaban!
What I heard and I am from the East Coast U.S.A. is because of the meaning. Here a philosopher means someone smart and they went to college and we think someone well educated. Here a Sorcerer is someone with magical abilities. They changed it because they thought it would sound too boring for children to want to go watch.
Just a fun bit of knowledge since you guys are also currently going through Star Wars Rebels. The actor playing Lucius Malfoy in this movie series is the actor who is also voicing the Grand Inquisitor in rebels.
Very wholesome to see you experiencing these movies together for the first time, but dude, please let your kid figure out a few things on his own too...it's a kids movie, made for kids like your son,. Adults like you can easily understand / predict what will happen next, but it's not so obvious to kids, so it kind of sucks when you just tell your son everything that will happen...you keep telling him, "oh it's a big snake", "they're going to find a big spider" "It's moaning myrtle"etc..." It's a magical mystery / detective story, so I imagine it robs him of part of the mystery, suspense and magic when you're just spoiling the whole plot and telling him everything that will happen....I'm glad you like the films, but the kid's experience should come first, as they are made for people like him.
Agreed. But the funny thing is; she didn’t want to make the first books for kids but to get published they forced her hand and so within her books she wrote in a way that showed various forms of sarcasm and whatnot to show there was an underlying story that she wasn’t able to lead with. But hey. It worked out to a huge benefit both for the future books and the movies ❤
But hey. I’m glad he has a present father who’s interested in doing things with his son. Like. Holy heck. Wish I’d have such memories on video king after said father passes away if he’s mortal.
Fun fact about the weasley rescue, in the books harry trunk and most of his things are locked in the cupboard under the stairs so the twins go down there and break in to get hsi things and after teachs harry how to do that
They do get darker as the series goes on. Even the Warner Bros logo gets darker which is a really nice touch
i can't wait to see your reaction for the next Harry Potter movies
We can not wait to see them :)
The films get more serious as they go on, I'm glad yall are enjoying this so far!!!!!
Nice reaction guys. "Don't worry, I will be" was an improvised line by Danial Radcliffe and not in the actual script.
That is actually really cool by Daniel! great improv
41:14 This line was improvised by Jason Isaacs, and immediately, Daniel Radcliffe improvised this back. Amazing acting from everyone
As I've heard they changed the name from philosopher stone to sorcerers stone simply because film makers thought that children more likely would watch movie with word sorcerer in the title rather that philosopher hahaha
Could this be the best Harry Potter film? Could’ve say, but it’s one of my favourites 👌🏽
You asked the reason for the first book/movie name change. The American publisher, Scholastic, thought we Americans wouldn't understand "Philosopher's Stone" so changed it to "Sorcerer's Stone."
Thry changed the name because they were worried some audiences might not understand what a philosopher was. So in Britain it's "Philosopher's Stone" and in America it's "Scorcerer's Stone".
From a Google search: "Why did the first Harry Potter book change its name to Sorcerer's Stone instead of Philosopher's Stone? Scholastic changed the name because they didn't believe American children would buy a book with the word Philosopher in the title and thought emphasizing it was about magic would help market the book."
I like your reactions, do not misunderstand me, but i suspect the daddy knows more than he is actually saying. Some glimpses to the camera, some comments, some on-point questions. He said he did not look up anything in order to avoid spoilers, yet he knew that there was an extra scene. 🤭
Maybe he is a Ravenclaw in disguise! 😅 But loving the fact that both of You are enjoying the movies together! 😊😊
That's the feeling that I got too
Same impression here. On the whole, I think the father-son dynamic is still too unbalanced in favour of the former, who possibly doesn't realise it himself. Hopefully this will improve as Lewis matures but for now I've the feeling his Dad takes up most of the space. Still following them because all the same, they make a fine duo.
the comments told him there was an extra scene, it’s not that hard to figure that out
The first two movies are classic. Let your lad learn it is bad to borrow the car without permission ;-))
So excited for the rest of the movies!
Us also, can not wait for chapter 3 :)
The next movie is EPIC, I can't wait to see your reactions.
We have heard the next is a huge fan favourite, really looking forward to it
Enjoyed this video very much, and looking forward to seeing you watch the later movies as they get more dark and intense.
"I wonder what Azkaban is like?"
Don't worry, you'll find out next movie.
We can not wait
I read somewhere that they changed from philosophers stone to sorcerers stone because they though American children wouldn’t be interested in a book about philosophers.
I'm so excited for you to see the next one "The Prisoner of Azkaban". It's my favorite!
Us too Kim, we have heard great things about it and it seems to be a real fan favourite!
There's a bit in the third movie that's a nod to Shakespeare's Macbeth. No MAJOR spoilers, but I think you'll enjoy it.
Same.

I love that you guys are discovering this series together. It's beautiful, timeless, so so much fun, and absolutely filled to the brim with details. So always be paying attention to the little details. A little background on Tom Riddle (non-spoiler). Riddle himself is a half-blood, his father was a muggle (also named Tom Riddle) and he always resented that especially as he grew into this "pure-blood ideology" while at school. Riddle was actually raised in an orphanage, he never really knew his father, which possibly contributed to that resentment, but he always felt very out of place around the other muggle kids. So when he eventually goes to Hogwarts as a student he started getting deeper into the ideas of blood purity and sort of developed this alter ego version of himself that would completely separate him from his muggle father and started becoming Voldemort, that's partially why he changed his name, he tells Harry this in the chamber. So in some ways, there are these similarities between Riddle and Harry, but Harry obviously developed with a very different mindset than Voldy. The books are amazing and I can't recommend them enough, the 6th in particular goes very deep into Tom Riddle's backstory, and the movie skims over a lot of it so if you want to go deep into the Voldemort story I'd recommend reading the books.
“Has he put the ring on or something?” Love it!! 😹
The thing about the Harry Potter books is that the author, JK Rowling originally wrote the series for adults. It was the book publishers that decided to advertise it as children's books. If you read between the lines of the story you will see it is a satire. First, one has to understand that you the reader are looking at the story through Harry Potter's point of view as he grows up throughout the years at Hogwarts. In the first book and movie Harry is 11 years old so you see his world from his 11 year old mindset and maturity. But as he grows up and begins to understand things more and more the story gets darker and less innocent as he matures with age.
The reason I call the books a satire is that many of the stories deals with racism of a different kind and political corruption. Dobby might be a house elf but nevertheless he is a slave just the same. There might not be any racism in the wizarding world against people of color but there is racism against wizards who do not come from pure magical families.
Harry doesn't see the horrible similarities between the wizarding world and the muggle world at this point because he is only 12 years old during The Chamber of Secrets. To a certain extent he is still an innocent little boy and is not mature enough to comprehend it all to the fullest extent.
🏰🧙♂️🧙🏻♀️🧒🪄⚡️📚📽🎞🖤
Harry doesn't really mature though. Harry never examines why Voldemort and the Death Eaters think there shouldn't be mixing. He sides against them for only emotional reasons. That is a child's way of thinking. Mixed blood produces more squibs, therefore less witches and wizards, as that practice continued on the magical world would be all but lost as fewer and fewer would have any abilities. A non-mixing stance is best for both wizards and muggles.
I can’t wait for more 😊
They will be here soon, I promise :)
I heard that they changed the title of the first movie to help sell it to an American audience. The American version is scorceror's stone.
The snake that has poison but also can kill with its eyes is terrifying AF, thankfully the kids in this movie/ book were lucky, except Hermione because she knew what she was facing against, to have something that reflected the eyes of the Basilisk.
Great reaction and I'll wait for your reaction to the next movie, you will know why Azkaban is the worst prison of all times.
Sir Nicholas likely got in front of Justin. Since he knew he couldn’t die again, he probably knew he’d be saving Justin’s life.
@@Powerranger-le4up ???
I really enjoy watching the two of you react to the Harry Potter movies together. Great father/son activity! Fun to see it for the first time again, through your eyes. I do however find the blanking out of the video with the 'Harry Potter' title/logo VERY distracting & frustrating. I understand there is something with the copyright, but, couldnt tthe logo be a bit transparent or only partially block it out so we can still see what part of the movie you are watching along with you? ....Just a suggestion.... Thanks guys! Carry on with your fun reactions otherwise.
I recently finished your BoB reactions and I LOVED your BoB reference about needing "Airborne artillery." 😅 ❤
When are you posting the next Harry Potter reaction? Looking forward to it, love both your reactions, so nice to see you enjoying it both together 😊
Lewis get's back from Spain tomorrow so will be watching the 3rd 1 in the next few days :)
New subscriber from India! I loved you and your son's reaction to the 1st one.
Thank you so much, really appreciate your comment! Which is your favourite one?
@@SofaandChill The one you're gonna watch next! That's where the series really takes off! 😀
That "look at your tail" giggle from Moaning Myrtle is hilarious.
Sorcerer's Stone / Philosopher's Stone They changed the name from philosopher to sorcerer for us Americans. Publisher's thought American kids wouldn't want to buy something that had such a boring word as philosopher so they switched it to sorcerer because that sounds more exciting.
I gotta admit that i think they made the right call. i might not have picked up the first book if i thought it was about a Rene Decartes's pet rock lol.
I love the way things in the movies shadow or foretell other parts in the movie and even connect the movies. For instances, When Dumbledore asks Tom Riddle if he wishes to tell him something and Harry can see he gave the same response; When Hermione fixes Harry's glasses in a first encounter with Harry from the first movie and when Harry tells about sicking a snake on Dudley from the first movie. As you go through the movies you will see premonitions about later movies and earlier movies being referenced. It forms a nice cohesiveness.
Yay! New channel reacting to Harry Potter! I’m here for the ride!!!!
love your reactions guys really trying to enjoy them! Thank you!
ahh this movie scared me a lot when I was younger! the scenes in the bathroom always creeped me out and the Basilisk freaked me out too
It was funny to me that you said "they put a bit of height on them all" as if the kids didn't just actually get taller due to filming the movie a year later lolll
The American publisher (Scholastic) thought that having the word "philosopher" in the title would harm book sales, so they persuaded JKR to allow the change for that market. Having done so, the movies had to follow suit. This meant, among other things, that the actors had to record their lines twice whenever the Stone came up in the script. :-)
R.I.P. Robbie Coltrane. It truly isn’t Hogwarts without you.
You guys are adorable wish i had a father son relationship like that
I love that you guys watch these together, I can’t wait until my son is old enough to be able to sit and watch them with me. Great reaction lads, can’t wait to see what you think of the next ones
Harry's mistake with the wording landed him in a place called Knockturn Alley. Located right off of Diagon Alley; this place is dedicated completely to the dark arts. Not a place you want to be seen......unless you practice the dark arts...heh
They changed the name for the US because people could relate to and understand Sorcerer better than Philosopher.
So, in regards to the name change in the States: Bloomsbury published the books in the U.K while Schoolastic did it for the U.S. Schoolastic made a number of changes to the first 3 books to make them easier for American kids to understand like changing things like sweets to candy and jumper to sweater. The title of the 1st book was one so to make it sound more magical. They stopped making changes for the 4th-7th books due to demand from their readers which has created what is to this day the funniest thing around Harry Potter. Not a movie spoiler: Americans largely don't know that a punt is type of small boat so in book 5 when Filtch was punting the students across a magical swamp most Yanks thought he was kicking them over 🤣
Ahh right, thanks for letting us know my friend!
Another awesome reaction, been looking forward to this! Shit biscuits and shittin' in the bed pet are on there way, man. I'd call Azkaban the beginning of teenagerhood, and the bridge from childhood to young early adulthood.. Things get 'serious' ;) .. can't wait
Random but I can't wait for you guys to see how different Neville looks by the last two films😊
That's intriguing! does he have growth spout?
@@SofaandChill Ohh yes
I LOVE watching you two react. It’s so sweet to see a father & son bond like this. ❤ So that you won’t get them mixed up & get unintended spoilers…
Here are the rest of the movies in order:
#3: Prisoner of Azkaban
#4: Goblet of Fire
#5: Order of the Phoenix
#6: Half Blood Prince
#7: Deathly Hallows (part 1)
#8: Deathly Hallows (part 2)
I don't think it's possible to mix them up when release dates are clearly visible on any watching platform, give them some credit they're not that dumb. 🤔
@@_Professor_Oak I was just listing them as the father was saying something about which title was next. I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing. I wasn’t insulting anyone just being interactive but thanks for “putting me in my place” it’s made this experience sooo much more enjoyable. NOT
Dobby is freeeeeeeeee
So happy bro :)
Non-spoiler answers to your questions/comments made in the video:
- I've heard that the name for Philosopher's Stone was changed to Sorcerer's Stone in the States because the word "Sorcerer" makes it more obvious that it's about magic; they didn't want kids thinking it was about philosophy and therefore being uninterested.
- Ahh Dobby, our favourite little sh*t lol.
- 13:01 Lol, I think you got mixed up there. Ron's family are the Weasleys, not the Dursleys. And as you'll have seen from the rest of the movie, the youngest is called Ginny.
- 23:09 Well done figuring it out that early, most reactors I watch don't make the connection between the voice and Harry being a Parselmouth right away.
- 31:22 and realising Aragog was talking about Myrtle! You're on a roll haha.
- Lockhart gets sent to a wizarding hospital called St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, which was found by and named after a wizard called Mungo Bonham. Lockhart became a permanent resident of the Janus Thickey Ward on the 4th floor, which addresses unliftable jinxes, hexes, curses, incorrectly-applied charms, etc.
Loved your reaction. Looking forward to more. ❤❤❤
So are we! Can not wait for the 3rd movie
Please get to movie 3 as soon as possible! The next movie will show someone that's very dear to Harry, and who has been trapped in a prison until this movie. Plus something will be revealed about this person, and a secret about the Potters' deaths will be revealed. Enjoy it!
You'll find out more about Azkaban in the next one, it's one of my favorites, along with the fifth one
Oh so i shouldn’t mention Hagrid turns into a fairy princess? (Obviously it’s a joke lol)
hahaha I will find it hard to get that image out my head now Catherine :)

Very well done, Sir!
I love how kevs voice is now si big haha
Many people have mentioned that the next movie has a very noticeable shift in mood and target demographic. But what a lot of people don't mention is that the next movie is where the series starts to have a unified plot that builds to a conclusion in the final movie, whereas the first two are "stand alone" movies that are self contained. The rest of the movies' plots aren't tied up neatly, but many loose ends are left. In my opinion, the 3rd movie is where the series truly "begins." Have fun.
Theses movies keep getting better and better mu favorites are order of the Phoenix and prisoner of Azkaban witch is the next one your gonna be watch

I watch it with fun and Joy. GREAT reaction you 2, as Always😀
My house is Hufflepuff too.
And a little Ravenclaw/Gryffindor.
dont know if someone said that but the change of title in the first one between states and Britain (rest of the world) is because when the books came out in 97 the american publisher feel like "Philosopher's stone" may throw the american kids away like was a boring book sooo when the movies came out they follow the book because the American audience was familiarized with that title and not Philosopher, in my country was always philosopher sooo piss me of a little hahaha (the chance i like the og)
It's was changed from Philosopher to Sorcerer for American Audience as Americans wouldn't understand Philosopher as much as UK Audience.
😂 I can't believe so many people get confused by the different title for book & movie 1. In America, the word "philosopher" would not be associated with magic by any kid under 10, & frankly even many high school seniors. The old definition of the word wouldn't be likely to come to their attention until adult/college reading material. To a kid the word brings to mind history lessons that mention Socrates & such. In other words: boring! They would see the title, not even glance @ the synopsis on the back & move on wondering how the bookstore employee could have put a boring adult history book in the kids' fantasy fiction section.
Basically, good marketers know that you need to "speak the language" literally & figuratively of those you're trying to sell to. An example of failed marketing in recent history: You may have heard the story, but maybe not, about the car called a Nova. In English it's a type of star, so they though it was a cool name for the new model. Then nobody who speaks Spanish would give it a moment of consideration when car shopping. Why? Because in Spanish "no va" means "it doesn't go". 😂
Great reaction! My fave Harry Potter movie 😁

Philosopher stone is org. and except of usa every where in use.

From what I have heard the name from Philosopher's Stone to the Sorcerer's Stone was changed of a marketing decision in American publishing because "they" didn't think the name philosopher would resonate with American children. If you Google or Bing the name philosopher it comes back, " a person engaged or learned in philosophy, especially as an academic discipline." Well, this doesn't exactly relate to wizards and magic for us dumb Americans.
Basically it was decided “philosopher” would seem too educational somehow? So that is why ours was changed to sorcerers stone i think it was an unnecessary change
Philosopher stone is the English version sorcerers stone American they are both the same
So glad to have you back for Movie #2. I can't wait until you see the 3rd movie. It is many people's favorite. It's definitely in my Top 3. #Hufflepuffrule
They changed the first one from Philosopher's Stone to Sorcerer's Stone because they thought Americans are stupid and wouldn't want to read philosophy... they might not be that far off though...
