EXPENSIVE Wreck! Dump Truck vs Hospital

  • EXPENSIVE Wreck! Dump Truck vs Hospital. I'm back working a wicked wreck job with none other than Dave. Let me start off by saying if you know what company this is, please don't comment it. It took me a very long time to carefully blur and edit out the company logos and license plates and I would like to respect the owner's wish to not have their logo shown.
    With that out of the way, I really enjoyed overcoming the challenges we had to face on this one to cause no further damage. The dump truck was not only loaded, but it had a trailer with equipment on top and was pretty much kissing the wall. Using brute force with no finesse or game plan would have done much worse damage to the medical building or the truck itself.
    Winching this straight back would have been horrible, as the front axle was destroyed. The passenger tire was broken and the rocks and mud would have made it get stuck more or turn into the building. First step was to tackle each unit separate. First the trailer, then the truck. By doing them one at a time, we were able to carefully get them out into the street, where they were then each towed separately.
    We're known for working super quick which is why even my rollover videos are short, but this one is one of the longest I've posted so I can really show you guys how much care and thought goes into a big crash like this. If you guys are liking the longer content and different angles, let me know by subscribing and dropping a comment so I know to keep it up.
    Don't forget to head to www.pepestowla.com/shop after the video and grab your cool Pepe's swag to represent your favorite tow company!

    Credit must be given to whomever lashed that trailer. That equipment didn't budge an inch. The force of the stop is very evident in the load shift in the truck bed.

    • @EyeMWing
      @EyeMWing 11 месяцев назад +33

      Even if the auto insurance won't (and it probably will), the corporate general liability will - it's some kind of construction business, so 'a building got fucked up' is definitely in the risk analysis - but they're going to have a *LONG* list of requirements to remain a customer. Trainings, random screens, etc.
      The damage here is just curtain wall. The 'pillar' that's busted out is just cosmetic - the actual structural pillars are set inside the building a foot or so (you can see one through the windows alongside the dump truck). That's why the building manager is getting windows boarded up, not waking up a structural engineer. It's gonna suck to get fixed (especially if those finish panels are no longer readily available) but it isn't dangerous or anything.

      @@charlesroer972 At 0.400 even Archer wouldn't be conscious. Depending on the driver and whomever he may have been working for, there may not be _any_ insurance. (you'd be shocked to know how many people drive around without insurance. and without a license, for that matter.) The building's insurance will almost certainly pay for repairs, but they will go after anyone they can to get any of that money back. (I've been there. Too many times.)

Lots of landscaping damage from the dump truck and the trailer but there was no way around that. You guys are so precise. If street view is to be believed, it's kinda weird how he got himself into the gap between the trees and the building. I'd assumed the road opposite lined up, but it looks like the angle on the building actually closes the gap. Even if you come steaming down the right most lane you'd be more likely to end up into the trees, or partly turn and plow solidly into the building.
      Unless this was a while ago, there are other tyre tracks across the verge into the grass on Streetview. So this junction must leap out on people!
      A question from the UK. Are big truck crashes super common in LA, because googling cdump truck hits buildingc have me lots of results far worse than this one?!

The camera angles were great, and I am continually amazed at how well these cameras do in low-light situations, as well as handling the spread between the dark areas and the massive amount of light the trucks throw out. This is exactly why we rigged the way we did, especially now knowing the front axle was jacked up. Winching it back and having the truck catch that rebar or do more damage was an absolute priority to avoid

    • @EyeMWing
      @EyeMWing 11 месяцев назад +4

      No. That is a curtain wall, which is nonstructural. The actual loads are carried by columns spaced a foot or so inside the outer wall (sometimes attached to the outer wall with drywall just to make them not look weird). You can see some of the structural columns through the windows as the 'thick' ones.
      Obviously you don't want to do more damage to the curtain wall, because curtain wall is still a wall and thus expensive, but the absolute worst that can happen is ripping the facade off the building, and you'd have to try a lot harder to do that.

    • @Murph9000
      @Murph9000 11 месяцев назад

      @@EyeMWing I thought it looked like it had taken out a bit of the column too, but I could be mistaken. We didn't really get a good close up look at the damage to be sure.

    When you asked-was he ready--"Dave stays ready" Nice clean job-having the equipment and the knowledge makes a big show on the public-even though going to be a bunch to tell you how to do something.
