  • Alex will share some of her favorite works by Salley Mavor. Salley is a unique textile artist who creates figures and scenes from textiles. My Bed, Enchanting Ways to Fall Asleep around the World, is Salley's wonderful children's picture book. It took Salley about two years to hand stitch all of the illustrations.

Loved the Sally Mavor video! As a retired preschool teacher, I love this combination of fabric art and children’s literature ❤

I got to see the "My Bed" exhibit in Carrollton, Georgia this fall. A-MA-ZING!!! They played a video of how Salley created her works of art for the book. Even the non-quilter friend who went with me was impressed.

I saw Sally’s exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell. Awe inspiring, amazing, incredible work!!! What a gift she has😊 The miniatures are just magical! If an exhibit comes to your area, I highly recommend seeing it!

In two years, Sally completed an entire books worth of art. In the last two years, I just finished two simple wool kits. Both are Christmas themed and I didn't finish until January. I'll never be able to do the book worthy work, but I am highly motivated to attempt more projects. Thanks for the inspiration!!

If you get a chance you need to see her work in person! My Bed picture boxes were displayed at The New England Quilt Museum in Lowell last fall. The Southern Vermont Art museum had any more of her pieces, including My Bed. Pictures and videos don’t really capture her exquisite work. Sally spoke at my local guild meeting. She is a very lovely person. Thank you for sharing her work.

This show reminded me of work that my English teacher required when I was in high school. For extra points we could make a 3D project illustrating a poem and a character. I created two farmers using techniques that resemble hers. The farmers were lifting stones to build a fence i.e. Good Fences Make Good Neighbors by Robert Frost. For my character I chose Jane Eyre by Emily Bronte and sewed a tiny little brown dress and created a hairdo of the times on a tiny little doll I had. Salley's work really resonated with me.

There was a display of her work at Highfield Hall and Gardens at Bebee Woods in Falmouth, MA, a few years ago. If you think her work is amazing here, you would not believe what it looks like in person. There is just no way to describe the detail. Well worth seeing if you get a chance!!

HE means High Effeciency which actually means it uses less water. You can have a huge tub, but it only uses a minimal amount of water (this is mandated for new machines ostensibly to reduce water use). The reduced amount of water can mess with the proportions of detergents needed, that is why they make some detergents that specify He on their labels. You need to make sure your machine will fill with the appropriate amount to match with the amount of synthropol you are using in order for it to work properly.

I own a 570QE and I love it because all the feet and throat plates fit both the 770QE and the 570QE. The features are the same and there is no problem going from 770QE to 570QE in my brain. Made a big difference in my purchase. I owned the older version of 570 and it didn’t have the same features. Drove me crazy so I sold it and bought one that was compatible with my 770QE. Hope this helps in your decision .
