STITCHIN' HEAVEN: THIS IS OUR STORY

  • Stitchin' Heaven opened its doors in October 1996 in 1000 square feet with 600 bolts of fabric. Deb had left her corporate job so that she could spend a summer with Clay, her 10-year old son, and when the time off was not granted she did the most logical thing and quit her job. This led to the family moving to east Texas to raise emus. They purchased 200 acres in Hainesville just outside of Quitman/Mineola and built a home. The emus never happened, but quilting did as Deb opened her quilt shop.
Stitchin' Heaven was featured in Quilt Sampler magazine in 2000 as one of the Top Ten Shops and grew through the years by diversifying to classes, events, quilting cruises, and Block of the Month programs. Today, Clay and Deb contribute the success of Stitchin' Heaven to the simple fact that they listen to their customers.
Today Stitchin' Heaven is located back in Quitman after a short 7-years in nearby Mineola in a new 17,500 square foot multipurpose building, a 9500 square foot retreat center, and 6 cottages. The 45K square foot warehouse/office/event center is scheduled to open in spring 2022.
    This is the story.

This is the best story i have seen in a long time.. i live in Quiman Ga.. we dont have nothing here.. i am 70 and have wanted to have a shop.. but i dont have the means and feel very defeated. Coming across this has been a hilite of my day. I have 30 tops.. but dont have the means to finish. But as long as i have a few scraps.. i will have a quilt. I also have over 300 cross stitch items . My goal was to open a ready made or stitch or quilt to order shop.. Give to someone in need.. Give back what God has blessed me with the talents to do..
Again this such an awesome story...God bless you..

I thoroughly enjoyed the story of how your company came to be. I love that you chose a very small East Texas town to plant the footprint of a company that literally reaches the whole of the quilting community here and abroad. I sincerely congratulate you, Deb, for your skill and expertise in growing this company so exponentially over the years. Looking forward to what is in store for Stitchin Heaven and, I am delighted to be close enough to visit anytime I want!

Wish I had heard about this company yrs ago. I am Canadian/American and live in Fort Lauderdale. Fluent in both French and English it would have been an honor to serve uni lingual Canadian customers and offer services in French if needed for a company such as this one. You guys are one in a million and I wish you the very best! To have survived the pandemic and all it entailed is wonderful, the outlook and goals of this company is to be admired and is a life lesson for many others who are fixated on profit to the detriment of their customers contrary to this company who put her customers first and grew beyond belief!

Wow! Living proof how fast someone can get to where you are with everything. Very happy for all of you. Now, have you thought about just putting in a hotel? I haven't checked for the nearest one, but I bet you would stay full. P.S.-"East Texas".... Born in Port Arthur in 1955. Grew up between there and Baton Rouge. My mother was born in Nederland in 1924! I have lived different places, left Brenham for Baton Rouge in 2019... But Texas has my heart (even though I do love that Colorado beauty, where I had a view of the mountains from my bedroom window). I love what I think of as "real Texans." Love "our" attitudes. Just like your business. I can't wait to learn more. Thanks for all!

Today I watched a video on cleaning/maintaining a sewing machine. That was followed by a video by the same man as he made a quilt in one night as a random act of kindness. Both were really great to watch. I wondered where Stitchin' Heaaven was located. Next video to pop up was this wonderfully done video all about your shop/mega-business. Most surprising was the location! Thirty miles from where I live! I couldn't believe it. I will be visiting soon.
Congratulations on you success. And prayers for your continued growth.

What a story! I've never really wanted to live anywhere than where I do, but Quitman, Texas sounds like the place for me. LOL Congratulations on all you've done and achieved. My mother was a seamstress/dressmaker, but I did NOT have any interest in sewing at all. A very frivolous girl in my twenties (we won't go into that!) But one day I had an epiphany and realized I could be much more productive for me and my community than I'd been. Mom took me in hand (just smiling alllll the way), gave me a sewing machine and the rest is history. Thank you for sharing your story. Take care and Hugs from Canada!!

My daughter has no desire to sew but I'm hoping when she has children and moves back to Canada in 2022 that some of my quilting journey will rub off being in North America again. The world may be vast but the quilting community seems like one big village.

I just discovered you this week. Your YT channel was recommended by my watch history. I stayed because of the cute lives and the cow! I really want to see the cow in person. Now I have your shop and Missouri Star Quilt to visit, you both are now on my crafty bucket list. I want to see what the retreats are all about, those look like fun. I just want to say. I'm a Hispanic full tattooed girl and almost every quilt shop I go into I get treated like dirt, it's pretty bad when I have to cross my fingers that the employees will say hi and be nice. Please don't let me down when I DO get to your shop. I will be going hopefully by next year :) I'm a nice person, truly I am and I just love to quilt and I want to spend lots of money in your shop LOL :) All I'm asking for is, please don't judge a book by it's cover. :)

Please come and visit we would love to have you and will welcome you with welcome arms and possibly throw fabric at you 😉 no fingers to be crossed when visiting, quilters come in all shades and patterns and we love all. If you ever need a place to stay, we do have on campus cottages available (not for sewing), you might want to look into trying a retreat with us:)

Because of its closeness I can't buy my fabrics from you. Plus with extra shipping costs it just doesn't make sense. I wish I could visit but I can't as not permitted to fly any more so the web has certainly helped bring your store to me.
