- Being creative whether it's painting sewing, story writing, modeling, or furniture art. All can contribute to having better or improved mental health. This video does not claim to have all or any of the answers however it does encourage you to be creative and talks through all the reasons why creativity is so important for everyone's mental health. I hope this video inspires you to do a small project if for no other reason than for some of the benefits discussed. I make a simple Das Clay owl from every day easily found items in this video I hope you enjoy

I repainted a peddle car. When I finished it I stepped back from it..and I cried with happiness. I was so pleased and proud of it. And still am. I see it every day it's in the corner of mt living room.

I went from being a very fit equestrian loved my horses ,to having severe copd , i agree immersing yourself doing craftwork takes your mind off things for awhile, love the little owl ❤❤ merry Christmas lel and martin xx

Lel and Martin... it is not a coincidence that I received the notification for this video today. It is devine intervention at its finest and I will explain why.... this holiday season will be the first since I lost my oldest son to his 2nd battle with cancer. He was first diagnosed at 16 and not expected to live to see his 17th birthday. He beat the odds for 21 years when the cancer returned and took him from me shortly after his 37th birthday. I have been severaly depressed and crying for weeks now. I have felt paralyzed in grief unable to do anything but cry. I started binge watching your videos and TODAY I forced myself to start a furniture project inspired by your wall flower projects. I started feeling better... better able to cope with my grief since my brain and thoughts were occupied with the creative process. Again, not a coincidence. Thank you both for all you do while sharing your creative process, insight, and inspiration to us! It truly does make a difference. Martin, I just watched your video and I loved it! Loved your term "under carriage" too! You did a great job! Thank you both and Happy Holidays!
I am so sorry to hear about your son, it shouldn't happen to a mother. I am glad you have discovered creativity, I too am finding consolation in creating. I too recently started binge watching this channel and it is helping me. I am estranged from my 27 year old son, his fiance has emotional problems and she has turned him against me. I was allowed a 30 minute visit with my 3 small grandchildren today, I didn't know till yesterday that I would see them for Christmas. Amazon keeps bringing me lovely moulds and stencils and paint and stuff and I am happy when I am using my imagination crafting ❤️

Oh Mandy that's a very incredibly sad situation, and you must feel helpless. I'm very sorry that you will not be seeing them over Christmas.
Crafting and being creative doesn't change this situation or your daughter in law and her actions. However for a small amount of time those craft parcels from amazon will give time out from the impossible situation you find yourself in.

I'm with you I don't believe it's a wonderful time for all at Christmas. And what a truly hard life you have now coping and managing loss, of your beautiful son. Loss is everything it's wondering how to put one foot in front of the other when you just don't want to move. I'm so sorry and I have no words to help you heal. Other than please you can message me anytime.
I've spoke before about my dad's death the two years I nursed him dying from cancer, he faded in front of my eyes. I had never been so close to anyone and creating.... Making and painting and of course my lovely marty made it manageable marty got me straight back into painting and it kept my sanity. I know how to feel less and for longer just by painting.

@@MadebyMarley Thank you so much Lel. It is exactly as you say. Today's video was a reminder to me of what my son would want me to do. He was always very good at redirecting his Mother when she was taking a hard left to anxiety and worry town! He always got me back on track to faith.

The owl is so adorable!❤❤❤ I love owls because they are so mysterious! And it’s amazing what you can do with clay outside of how we furniture folks typically use it. So many options! And you are so right about creative projects and your mental health. I think I am blessed to have something I enjoy doing because it definitely helps me make it through the days. Especially because I still work and just to push life down for a while🥰
Yes cassandra I think people like us who do creative projects as a job are very very blessed as we get all the good dopamine vibes..... Well Intill it goes wrong then it's another story x
Thank you for addressing mental health...I'm going through a divorce and just had the absolute worst week of my life, no happy holidays for me this year. I try to keep the future in mind but not feeling well enough to see a happy future.
When you create you inspire us Lel and Martyn, can't tell you how much your encouragement means to so many of us. So thank you again for you both being inspirational and supportive of our mental health and how to work through them through crafting and LETTING GO...maybe just for a short time, but a healthy mental break. Yes crafting can help, however it doesn't minimise the pain and sheer stress a divorce can bring. It's probably very difficult to imagine why you were together in the first place. I'm so sorry for you and I do think a pause from stress while crafting gives us a short while when we are not feeling stuffed full of adrenaline and stress.
Hopefully a new chapter begins for you in 2024 a time of rebuilding and getting your confidence back..... And a chance to move on x x

Sculpting onto furniture is fun, but I started using Apoxy Sculpt because it's really durable. Koi fish legs to start. Yes, reaching creative flow is amazing. 😊

I agree Martin, I can remember working in a pottery class for weeks and then the teacher put your project in the kilm with a dozen other peoples projects and one would always explode, and you never knew exactly what color the glaze would be. After watching this Lel, I remember how satisfying sculpting is. I just found out that I got an apartment, so I'll have my own space again in January. Thank you for sharing this with us. BTW, I did face painting for my great grandgirls 8th birthday party on Thursday, will I woke up with a cold last night, those buggers got me again, aw but it was fun. Christmas Blessings to all. We all have someone who is tricky, who can effect our mental health.
I think I try not to expose myself to my tricky relative for to long a periods, I use my other family members as buffers and we agree to take turns. We also fill the person in question full if wine ha ha ha then they calm right down.

I just finished decoupaging 54 Easter eggs. They were done with napkins that I cut up. I have been completely engrossed in doing them since Jan 7. The week prior we had a death in our family and then a big wedding on the 6th. My father had an overnight stay in the hospital because we all caught a cold being around so many family members. The eggs saved me in a sense. I am preparing to paint a large buffet and wanted to just see if I could do it. I needed to cut and “paste” something. Next I will try stenciling. So far everyone who has recieved a set of eggs has loved them. I’m happy about that… just the act of giving something handmade for a change. This channel did that… got me started and made me think I could do it.
Toddy you can do it, you have got this. The eggs although monotonous probably did pull your mental health through.... I'm so sorry to hear about all the sadness, but I'm sending you all my love and thanks for your kind comment

Hi Lil, Evelyn from Peru. Yes I´m home and now with Covid, But OK. I was an executive in a 900-employee company. With many hats, and responsibilities, eventually it led to sever Fibromyalgia. Through the years of therapy and disability, I found that, yes creativity helped me relax and not concentrate on the pain I was having. I re-invented myself and found I was more creative than I knew. Handcraft is definitely a way to release the tense muscles and mental stress.
Yes it truly does relieve mental stress, poor you I can't believe you now have covid. Here's to you having a better year of health in 2024 x

Merry Christmas hope you have a lovely day. I love doing my crafts, i make boho jewellery aswell as paint, but when i need to do something thats not for sale i do something around the house, just for me and my family. I dont suffer from mental health problems but i have a family member that does , that needs constant reassurance, she gets very stressed. She likes to write, when she can concentrate and when children and time allows. So your write just find what gives you joy.
Yes your very right, like you I tend to have pretty good mental health however I have my days.
And I just create and make and enjoy doing..... I wish you and all your family a wonderful happy relaxed year ahead.

I just watched yesterday’s video. Great!! You are so intuitive and inspirational, Thank You! You seem to know just what we need to see and watch with every new video. Yesterday I got into my flow and spent about 3 hours playing with my new IOD molds and Das clay ( my Christmas present to myself) a much needed break, time spent with just me. Thanks again for your teaching and reminding us of what art is supposed to be and who we create for.
