Thanks! You saved me from a lot of frustration in the installation of SWS. I really, REALLY, appreciate your help.
wow you really saved me 10 years trying to figure this out manually!!
I just donated to both Reapack and SWS. It wasn't much money but I wanted to try and help them or these guys out. These are great add on's and they made them free which I have used for a while.
same here. student but 5€ for both each is better than nothing
Man, you are freaking amazing! Thank you! NO wonder my Reapack wasn't working! I put it in the directory I pointed preferences>VST to in the paths section. I didn't realize the dll needs to be in my user plugins. I'll try that, and if it doesn't work, I'll comment again so you all can help me further.
Another video with great tips, thank you for your work!
I knew it was possible to export in h.264 from Reaper, but I've never taken the time to figure it out. Thanks to you video, I now have that option available, and I'm so excited! Can't thank you enough!
Correction: It is possible to export h.264 mp4 in windows, you just have to type *.mp4 file extension at the end of the file name when selecting the "QT/MOV/MP4" format!!! Not obvious! However i found that the video codec setting at 100% is only about 4Mbps @ 1080p/30fps. If I set this to 300%, then this gets to about 8Mbps, which i believe is right for youtube, etc. All very counter-intuitive, but hopefully can save others time investigating.
awesome!! thanks for the tip
This was super helpful! Thank you!
Always brilliant man. Thanks so much for your channel
Thanks so much! Really helpful info as always
THANK YOU, I was trying to get the SWS extensions to show up in Reaper for hours, and this finally helped me get my mac to accept the software. 🙏🙏🙏
how you did it im having trouble with reapack
same,extension muneu doesn't show up@@nimrodpascal8362
Very helpful and clear, thank you kind sir.
Another really useful video when you are transferring your Reaper setup to another PC.
Great video, thank you !
thanks for the Tutorial, i've been using REAPER for a few years now & didn't know about the Video Extension etc., sometimes it's difficult to follow the instructions as the screen is a bit blurry, one cannot always see where one has to see click in the initial menu to get from A to B. anyways, my REAPER installation did have a little more in the vlc field under Preferences, i kept it that way. also, the User Plugins folder was not empty. once i installed the SWS there was a message about a conflict with something in the User Plugins folder, i deleted the old files, re-started REAPER & the meassage was gone. i wasn't happy about the old file deletion after all, created a "Backup" folder in the User Plugins folder, reinstated the old files & moved them to the Backup folder. re-started REAPER again to make sure it wasn't gonna touch the Backup folder, it worked so far. now i just have to test the Video options a bit.
Thanks Bro, nice one.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you so much, It works.🤣
thank you !!
I was getting super annoyed about FFMpeg, it was not showing up even though people made it look so easy. Thankfully, your video actually showed all the steps.
Remember peeps, shared ffmpeg. Not the other one. That threw me.
the fact that it's not even the same folder on windows and mac took me 5 years to figure out. All the instructions were wrong
Imagine that, exactly the right video at the right time! Thank you! 🙏 Win10 to install this in a Portable Install? The .exe wants to install on c:\
must be pointed to the main Reaper on your portable drive. I pointed it to the (example) F:\Reaper. Works just fine, nice and easy on WIN10.
hello, thank you very much your contributions are incredible, i'm a new reaper user and i'm doing a static mix and, everything is fine, but when i do the same static mix in cakewalk by bandlab it is heard with more body and more present, the question is that i use a plugin called bitter to determine the bits, and in reaper it tells me in the level scale about 64 bits and in cakewalk 32 bits, I don't know why it is the same in both, what I would like to know is why the difference of sonority in reaper is heard better for my ears, more balanced and defined but in its turn thinner and less fat, your answer would clarify my understanding and I would appreciate it in my soul, thank you.
Thank you so much! Everything was great. You should just update the FFMPEG link.
New video on ffmpeg two weeks ago
@@TheREAPERBlog Haha thanks idk why YT recommended this one first in my search. I also laughed when I heard that you won't really need it for mac. I should have never paused the vid and searched for the link lol Thanks again I just found your channel.
Do you have a list of or download version of good cycle actions or a place where I could go to download some?
I am an audio guy only, no video - will these extensions do stuff for audio? BTW I'm subscribed and think your info is great! Thank you!
I created a color for "Guitar" in the extensions and it Colored tracks with "Guitar Lead", "Guitar Rhythm" etc but not Guitar alone. I inadvertently typed in a space after Guitar and it took a while to figure out what I did. Fuzzy Logic perhaps.
good
Gold 4:18 🎉🎉
OK. But can you help me? I can't deal with sidechain channels. Let's say I make a sidechain from kick to bass on virtual channels 3-4 and make a sidechain from lead to pad on channels 3-4 too. Will the kick affect the pad or the lead affect on the bass? Or are these 3-4 virtual channels unique for each message? Thanks!
I downloaded the VLC video player installed and run the app it sounds great and the video was not choppy very smooth now when pointing to reaper to use it I restarted up Reaper and now I see video but not hearing any audio help Thanks
I have a .wav file track I've recorded a long time ago but I lost the DI track. What I want to do, it`s to convert that file to a DI in order to change ( amp, Fx...).
I installed VLC, Reaper says path not found under "show available decoder info". How do I change the path?
In my browse of the comments below, I don't see anyone mention that the FFMPEG site has shut down. I did find mention on forum.cockos.com of a set on OTTverse:
ottverse.com/ffmpeg-builds/
I hope this is okay.
I'm having trouble getting permission to use the sws extensions on a mac with catalina; I've tried changing permissions and using "sudo xattr -d" but nothing seems to work. I also tried dragging it into the "Developer Tools" section of Security&Privacy ("allow the apps below to run software locally that does not meet the system's security policy").
Edit: nevermind, finally found the checkbox to "open anyway" in Security&Privacy settings.
Is it possible you can show how to do this in linux?
Searched and couldn't find the exact thing to make it work. I'm scoring to film. I have the video with embedded audio on track one. How do I get it to ignore play rate changes and play at its original speed no matter what I change the play rate to. Thanks for any assistance!
Will ffmpeg allow me to import m4a files?
Edit: it did, if anyone else was also having trouble with that
How to instal portable reaper on mac os?
Is reaper compatible with HAP video codec ?
Thank you! Reaper не импортировал mp4 видео файлы выдавал ошибку "Could not import 1 of 1 items" помогла установка VLC плеера.
how do i know if im not installing malware when importing all the respositories from the reapack respositories list and github?
can this pith be used on chromium?
My computer says that it doesn't have a program to use the reapack when I tried to open it???
Having serious problem the dmv file only has a dylb file in it and doesnt have any component(s) or anything to install reapack >:( trying a lot to get this figured out
Hi,"ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds" cannot be opened. Is there any other place to download this plugin? Thank you very much! It would be even better if the official can integrate this plug-in, which is basically a must.
I don't know if this is a potential issue in Mac as well, but I had a hard time finding out the cause of sync issue when an external ffmpeg lib was installed. Have a look into forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=232960 and be cautious.
I don't know if anyone can help me but, I updated my mac and now my sws extension doesn't work. Downloaded it again, followed the steps, but the extensions window won't show up. Any advice???
Hi Jon! Really thanks for your video.
I have one question!
In windows Instalation:
. The files that I should put inside my user plugins folder are all of the files which are inside the SHARE folder, even the .exe ones???
including the 3 ".exe" files are 11 elements, doesn't it?
Until Now, I used to uses only five of them.
- avcodec-xx.dll
- avformat-xx.dll
- avutil-xx.dll
- swresample-x.dll
- swscale-x.dll
Thanks in advanced!
javi.
don't need the exe files
Thanks John. My Extensions drop down menu does not show all the detail you have. i only show a REPack subfolder with the manage repositories /synchronize drop downs.
maybe it was previously edited? Try opening the menu editor, find "Main Extensions", click reset, reset current menu/toolbar to default
I don't recall edditing it but, reset didn't change anything.
Re-installed SWS and it's fixed.
Sorry, this is a bit off topic, but where can we find those interesting audio treatment tiles on your wall, just over your right shoulder?
Acoustics First Art Diffusors.
@@TheREAPERBlog OH my, but that was an incredibly fast response. Kudos to you, sir.
8 hrs gone and I can't get any of this to work on my windows machines. ReaPack gives you a dll but doesn't install it where it belongs like every other reaper download seems to with windows. I've tried putting it in every FX folder and nothing works. It doesn't show up in SWS extensions.. Is this a reaper/ mac only thing? Are there simple VST dll versions of the of the available JS scripts if I want to blow off or get around ReaPack? I'm just trying to get JS "midi gate" and i don't care about all the other stuff. Thanks.
...why dosn't reapack just come built into reaper or sws extensions?
No result after copying SWS- as well as Reapack-file into the user-plugin folder on my Mac with BigSur 11.6. Nothing. Any idea???
Did you right click on the REAPER.app and Open?
Anything in security preferences?
@@TheREAPERBlog i have the same problem, right clic, open package, but I don't find the folder UserPlugins
@@pvrigna open reaper, Options menu, at the bottom 'show reaper resource folder'. In there is userplugins folder. Quit reaper before making changes there.
you just have to create the folder. thank all for help.
Installed Sws-extension and there is no Extension option for me. Any ideas? I installed it in a valid folder (otherwise I wouldn't be able to click next button) and checked if sws file added to UserPlugins and it is there
I'm having the same problem. Reinstalled them all and still no extensions tab. Did you ever figure out how to fix it? Google search is leading me nowhere.
One question. I'm on Windows. I see there is now a 4.2.3 version of FFMPEG...did you specify 4.2.2 because it was the newest at the time the video was made? Or are there bugs with 4.2.3, and I should use the older version. THANKS!
BTW I had to search for user plugins it's under AppData/Roaming/REAPER for non-portable installs.
4.2.2 was newest at the time of recording. Damn the whole website is different today only a month later.
The blog post that goes with this video has screenshots and more info.
The REAPER Blog yeah I was able to get it going. I appreciate your constant efforts!
How to remove the default toolbar in track panel? Because I need the toolbar only at the top of my main window and in track panel how to remove it?
Cannot. You can change it to an empty one though.
Hi Jon, I hope this is not going to be much of an awkward question, but.. I managed to install all the extensions - sws and reapack - and _none_ of the reapack scripts actually work. I made everything according to the guides and whenever I run any of those scripts (for example one of xrayms randomize scripts), I get an error like this: "Warning: @import could not open '../Functions/spk_slider_class.eel'
X-Raym_Randomize take pitch (normal distribution with GUI).eel:142: 'm.slider' undefined: 'mean = ( m.slider(20, 20, 6, m.val, -12, 12, gfx_w - 30, 0))'
" --- any ideas where the problem could be?... I am new to Reaper and to all the scripts by the way. thank you!
pretty sure that's saying "spk_slider_class.eel" is required and not installed. I don't recommend scripts individually as you often run into these dependencies. Just install all of ReaTeam repo and it should work.
@@TheREAPERBlog thank you! you was right, when i "bulk-installed" everything at once, everything is working perfectly :)
I didn't get the window that was supposed to open once adding reapack to userplugins does that mean it didn't work?
U need extension
@@iamhandsome4291 I figured it out in the end thk u
My Win 10 x64 doesn't have a "UserPlugins" folder as described at 03:07, where should I extract the FFMPEG to?
My mistake, I had to find it manually in CMD first as C:\Users\gpsho\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\UserPlugins
I sure wish the Windows examples were shown on a Windows machine
i didn't own one at the time. The website has more details on this topic
I think I found the issue on windows there is no FFmpeg.dll in the shared ffmeg we downloaded. If you look in C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\Plugins you will see that there is a dll called FFmpeg.dll. I am looking for that file to put into the user folder. Look in the bin folder you downloaded it's not there.
Correction this is the file avcodec-58.dll and it need to be int the root of C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\UserPlugins not in a folder.
Just copy all of the shared files from the bin folder to your C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\UserPlugins

With a Mac just use homebrew to install FFMPEG. Homebrew knows where to put stuff on its own, no need to fuss around with it manually
edit: another thing I've just seen: chances are that all you need to do is create a "lib" directory in your user's home directory and put the stuff there. I still think that homebrew is the preferable solution
Yes homebrew works too, I tested that. But I thought all the other stuff Homebrew installs would be off putting.
@@TheREAPERBlog Sure, I just thought I'd mention it for those who already use homebrew
I installed Reaper 6.13 on a new 2020 imac and installed VLC 3.0.11.1 but the video viewer option is missing from Reaper preferences / view (command V according to your video) and doesn't visually play any video placed in a reaper track. You can hear it but not see it. Where is the (command v) option? - can you help?

Should be alt/option + V
cmd v is paste
@@TheREAPERBlog Option V does not work either. There is no video option in the reaper View menu
hi, the link for the ffmpeg link is not working any longer, any other links ?
updated here ruclips.net/video/AWSum2b_Wcg/видео.html
Is it possible to encode with H265 somehow ?
VLC standalone can do it but if reaper is using VLC i don't get that option strangely
no way yet, the options aren't implemented
btw VLC is used for decoding, and FFMPEG or AVFoundation is used for encoding.
@@TheREAPERBlog Thanks for the clarification about H.265. Also that VLC was only used for decoding is new to me. Hopefully one day Reaper will be integrated with handbrake that would be the best i think.

hi Jon, this link is dead : ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds could you provide another FFMPEG ressources ? I'm using this one, it seems to work : github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds/releases
in windows what is the path to copy the FFmpeg files
In Reaper go to Options/Show Reaper resource path. TheFFmpeg files go in the UserPlugins folder.
@@wwall01 THANK YOU lol
From Midi Man above - the files you downloaded in the bin folder (the .dll's) need to go into the root \UserPlugins folder from the resource path. If they're still in the bin folder, reaper won't see them.
@@dsbassman4184 In my bin folder they're not .dll for some reason? They're just .exe? I placed it to the userplugins folder and I think I did it right, but the h264 extension isn't there.

If you want to install SWS through ReaPack, so that all your REAPER extensions are managed via ReaPack, and if you’re running macOS, here’s a workaround for you: github.com/leafac/reaper/raw/master/sws.xml
Just go to Extensions > ReaPack > Import repositories…, then paste the URL above and install the package.
Sound of grown man crying… can’t get the ReaPack in my plugins folder. SWS went in easy, my new Alienware m18 doesn’t act exactly like either of the videos I’ve watched on this. You make great videos tho.
I'm not aware of any Windows install issues. Should just go to the same folder as SWS, then restart reaper.
too long too complicated
