Cleaned or Polished ~ that 1897 Morgan (4:18) was harshly messed with and deserved a DETAILS grading at the very least. Tbh, I'm surprised you even sent that one in to be graded. Those scratches, regardless of the cause, make it an ugly coin.
I assume you mean 1897. No Morgan is an ugly coin. Some have just had harder lives than other. I have them in hand and I cannot see what would be considered cleaned. They are polishing marks. Doesn’t mean there is something somewhere on the coin that was cleaned and I’m missing it but when you ask them why it was framed details they just tell you “our graders didn’t leave any remarks” why not point out the cause? We will see what ANACS thinks. And if a coin has a variety that I think will be attributed I send it in. Cleaned or not.

You need to teach yourself a lot better on how to grade coins. All of the coins you sent in I would have never ever sent to PCGS. And your sending 1987 NICKELS to PCGS, what a waste of money.

If you think that is bad I knew a guy trying to sell a 1987 toned cent MS 63 by PCGS on Instagram for $60 ! He got mad after I pointed out he made a bad decision sending that coin in for grading and he was trying to get back grading costs and proceeded to insult me and even troll my posts for awhile. Last I seen before I blocked was he knocked it down to 50. Cent had really nice toning but I get plenty of nice 80s toners just roll hunting.

I can see being upset about the lack of attribution for VAM’s, but in my opinion, all of them that were graded as cleaned were cleaned. Look closely at about 2 o’clock on that 1885-O right behind Liberty’s head at about 5:58 to 6:02 of this video, as an example. I think those fine scratches there were what they identified as being cleaned versus the scuff marks in front of Liberty’s face. The customer service you described, though, was horrible, and I understand why you’re done with them.
Could be but I’m sending them to ANACS and we will see what they say. These aren’t even the top ones I had concerns about. That’s another video. I don’t like getting details grades of course but my bigger issue was the lack of VAMs attributed. Again, ANACS should help me figure that one out. They give ALL the attributions instead of only certain specified ones.

Alot of coins have issues but shouldnt be punished for it entirely and barred from a straight grade. Especially when you are looking for variety attribute.

IMO if someone doesn’t damage the coin then who cares if it was cleaned or not. The one I see as cleaned here was scratched and I can see that but I really think the other two had die polishing marks and the grader was inexperienced.
@@rockysramblings You're missing glenn's point. A coin is definitely damaged when lines (as you want to call them; I call them scratches) are left on the surface of the coin via polishing. And polishing is a form of cleaning. Imho, sending any scratched coin in for grading is a complete waste of money; and b*tching about it afterward is a waste of time.
@acousticshadow4032 Rocky is stating the "DIE" was polished. Not the coin. The over polished die then transfered the polish markings to the coin. Completely different than polishing the coin.
Literally at 0:13 and I can clearly see the 1897-S, 1885-O and 1883 are polished to kingdom come. Edit 4:21 1897-S dude... C'mon. That's unmistakably cleaned. As for the VAM, PCGS and NGC charge extra for VAM attribution, did you pay for one? If so they need to refund that fee. Also I'm genuinely surprised that 1883 didn't get "harshly cleaned", that thing is just awful.
I have never submitted coins until back in November when I was at a coin show in Chattanooga. I submitted them to ANACS. I had been waiting to for a while between the 3. I decided to go with ANACS and not NGC or PCGS because of the price, long turn around, and you have to join their club crap. I have began to believe that a lot of the things you hear bad about ANACS is probably from the other 2. So I went with ANACS.
Yes i believe the same. PCGS is considered the best because they branded themselves the best. They’re in it for the money. ANACS seems to be in it for the hobby. I usually wait about a month for my orders to come back but it has never taken more than 2. But I submit through mail. Not sure if it would make a difference since you submitted at a coin show.
Holder with large 3 Ears or Four Ears is the Ugliest Holder in any Coin Grading Company because you can not see the whole part of the Rim and Edges vs the Accugrade Holder that you can still count all the reeded vertical line of a Dime Planchet.
Looking at the trueview for the 87-P nickel, it clearly isn't full steps. PCGS was correct. ANACS may have different (lower) standards. The steps are really "chewy" and need to not have any marks or interrupts which yours clearly has. For the Morgans, did you check the box and pay $20 for the variety Attribution? If so then you can call customer service and they'll pay for shipping both ways and add the attribution. They don't do it for free. If you didn't pay, then you don't get the attribution. The 97-s is cleaned. If there's any hint of cleaning, they call it cleaned. PCGS made the right call.
That’s funny cuz they have given me steps before on a coin that had damage on the steps. So right there they are showing a pretty major inconsistency. Also your definition of full steps is not what they say is needed for full steps. Yes I did pay for variety attribution. I’ve submitted over 100 coins with them and spent $10,000 in grading fees in 2022. I know how to submit the coins. I wouldn’t say ANACS has lower standards. PCGS just has a big head. These are not the only issues I’ve had with them. Watch my video I have linked at the beginning. These are just a few of the coins they wouldn’t take back. And with no reasoning either when I point things out to them. They just refuse to.
@@rockysramblings There's may be exceptions or mistakes out there by PCGS, but the PCGS definition for FS says "Any major disturbance or interruption of these steps or lines, whether caused by contact, planchet problems, or another source, will result in the coin's not being designated FS." And what I see in the TV is major interruption of the steps. Wish I could post a graphic here. As far as Morgan VAM designations, it's true that PCGS only recognizes certain ones and if they don't recognize it, it probably doesn't add any extra value. But if you are paying for a service (attribution) they didn't provide (you weren't clear that you selected this option in your video, I had wondered if you had simply left a note), PCGS will correct it at no cost to you. It's not about whether a company does or doesn't make mistakes, it's about how they handle those mistakes. I get that PCGS CS is hard to get a hold of, I have experienced that myself and I'm disappointed they haven't gotten better yet. However, there's a reason why coins PCGS holders sell for more than those in ANACS. It's like complaining about the best restaurant in town having long lines are being hard to get a reservation at. You just deal with it or find an inferior one.
@rockysramblings - You are correct on two things. PCGS does tend to wield a bit too much power and arrogance. But they are stricter. Rare exceptions exist, but in general they are stricter than the others.

However I can't forget when I went to a show, pulled out some coins and the guy was eating a sandwich and started to pick them up without even wiping his hands off. I grabbed my coins and never sent anything in. The market still does not like Anacs maybe in a few years.
@@rockysramblings I'm a step fanatic, and all guidelines say all steps (5 on older, 5 and 6 on modern) must flow completely unobstructed, with no gouges, marks, weakness of strike.... A full step nickels is likely one of the very first 300 or so struck from that particular die. One look at a full details nickel, you'll understand why they are so hard to obtain. The die weakens on the reverse dead center, just left of center one earlier Jeffers. Take your time when pressing the issue, you don't know as much as you think, but it's cool. Everyone has a little confirmation bias, and we see what we wanna see. PS; two sets of eyes are way better and useful than one set. Even if one set is slightly crossed or tilted. Just no gouges!

This was tough to watch damn. First of all I 100 percent guarantee Anacs will call those last 2 Morgan’s cleaned. The lines dance in all different directions which indicates cleaning not polishing lines. I seen lines on the devices as well. Send in crappy coins get crappy grades Second that nickel looks too mushy on the left side for full steps and certainly doesn’t have 6 full steps to qualify for Pcgs. Oh and don’t waste your money getting images from Anacs they are complete trash. They literally look like someone sat it on a desk and took a photo of the entire slab and coin with a IPhone 8
I have one coin in with them currently to test their images because i enjoy posting the images when showing the coins to my subscribers. So I will see how that turns out. I’ve already had them crossover a “cleaned” coin from PCGS that regraded as MS62DMPL. So not saying they’ll all be that way but I’m pretty damn happy with ANACS so far. They’ve graded about 50 coins for me so far.
Bro, that 1897S looks heavily cleaned. There's a big difference between die polish marks and cleaning. The polishing was done on the dies, so the "scratches" will be raised, but when its cleaned the lines are scratched into the metal
I’m aware but thanks for the info. I did send two of these disputes cleaned Morgan’s to ANACS. One ANACS agreed was cleaned. One came back MS62 DMPL. Can’t remember which coin tho. I’m gonna make a video sending in all my cleaned PCGS coins to ANACS and see what comes back. Well, the ones I have suspicions of anyway. Theres several I have that I was naive about when I first started sending them.

On your submission did you check the attributes box? You have to pay for it. PCGS use to put attributes on a libel like ‘ Bugs Bunny’ but now you have to specify you want attributes.
I have watch quite a few of your vidieos and you think have a variety on every other coin you handle. So do you think your right or the top coin grading company in the country? Challenge you to send those exact coins to NGC submitting them as varieties and see how they come back.

Just go to any coin show and any smart dealer will not want or sell ANACS graded coins there always over graded and there value is horrible, if I happen to somehow have a ANACS coin I always break it out and just keep raw. We dealers can't stand a ANACS coins...
Yeah I’ve heard that as well but are you gonna believe them no matter what? When a quarter is labeled a nickle? As a collector when I pay for a variety that’s obviously there and they don’t attribute it, it’s a waste of money. Then you gotta fight them to correct it. They want you to resubmit and pay them double. I had to fight with them for 2 months to correct the mistakes they made. They’re horrible. Buy the coin, not the holder.
These are accurate grades and I'll tell you why: 1987-P 5C: This coin that you think has FS does not, but it's really close. Can you count five steps? Yes. However, the first two steps have chatter on them, in which they will not give you the FS designation because of that. Great coin, i must say, but they just didn't agree. Morgan dollar varieties in general: You have to label what varieties they are so they double check in the notes while creating a submission. That way, they know what variety they should pull up first to see if it is or not. I don't know if you already do this, but just in case. 1885-O: I half agree with you? But, that does look like cleaning to me as well. It looks heavily artificially chattered, like it's been sanded in some places. 1897-S "Polished die": That is cleaning. When they polish a die for a Morgan dollar, they do NOT do it that harshly. You rarely see a morgan dollar that isn't cleaned with that harsh of polishing marks. PCGS knows what they're doing.
You are not the only one getting screwed by PCGS. I sent in 5 conditional rarities and they didn't give one stamp designation ( Full steps/ Full bands, etc) Sent 2 in on new order without the error designation. They got the stamp designation but they lowered the grades!!! Gonna call today to complain. How can a Jefferson nickel go from Ms 66 to Ms64 in a month!
You should complain! They need to know that they are screwing up big time and they either need to train their guys better or get rid of the ones causing the problems if they want to maintain their so-called best in the business status

Yes. Phone and email. I had to take pictures with a microscope to prove to them that they were wrong about a variety and it took me two months for them to resolve some of the issues and get my money back for other issues. I hate them. I use ANACS

@@rockysramblings So I basically wrote an article when emailing them, demonstrating with pictures how they screwed up and did not give me my variety designations (and I used other coins from PCGS' website to compare and prove it). Their response was something that appeared scripted and was about "grading" - which is not what I am taking issue with, I am taking issue with variety designation. I assume this is what they did to you. I guess I will have to call them.

Hey I am not big fan pcgs but you must know anacs graded coins will cause you to lose money and those coins will not bring same money as pcgs or ngc and next thing you found out is only the major varieties increase value most Morgan dollars have some type van or die crack strike thru but it does not increase value unless big variety good luck with pcgs maybe try ngc you buy some nice coin I would try ngc before anacs or see if you can send into CAC grading but you think pcgs tight man o man CAC is worst good luck
You have to pay the $18 for a variation to be designated. PCGS will not give one otherwise. You could send in a 1955 double die Lincoln cent and if you don't pay the extra amount you will have it slabbed as a 1955 Lincoln cent with it's grade only.
I know. I paid for it. In fact, if you don’t receive a variety they are supposed to only charge half the fee, but they charged me the full fee. After 2 months of arguing they finally gave me half the fees back.
I don’t know which is worse. When I sent in my coins to grade at NGC, I usually had to wait 4-6 months. They always charged me 200-300 more than what I had calculated. I suppose to get discount on coins grading because I bought the most expensive membership, they acted like they can’t do basic math like add, minus, multiply etc…They charged me for coins that they claimed “scratched “ without capsulate them. I was going to try PCGS, but just not very attractive to the look of the slabs. When I store them, they fitted awkwardly. Watching this video brought back memories I had to deal with NCG. The customer service was awe full. I did that to discourage people calling them. I found a bunch of CC Morgan dollar coins in the attic of the house my brother bought . I need to grade them.
I have heard good things about NGC but ever since this happened to me I have used ANACS and been very happy with them. I’d be interested in those Morgan’s you found if you want to part with them 👀
How much do these clowns rip you off?? If you Americans knew how to correctly grade a coin, you'd be using the proper British standard - no need for all this MS this, MS that CRAP! Thanks for sharing because I was going to go to CAC for grading but now I'm not. Also, I had a 1921s Morgan Dollar that was already graded by ICG at MS66 and I took it to PCGS and they bumped it all the way down to DAMAGE and AU. I lost $12k dealing with PCGS and now my coin is only worth about $27. I think I will go with ANACS or NGC. I will definitely stay away from PCGS and CAC unless I'm just getting a sticker from CAC to go along with ANACS or NGC grading.
I don't care what anyone says about my following comment(s), but here's how I see the hobby. I say ALL grading services is a bunch of B.S., EXCEPT for verifying if an item is genuine or counterfeit. I could care less what 'grade' someone would assign an item of mine is. It's my opinion that collecting ANYTHING should be a fun and educational hobby, not an avenue where one tries to play 'the crack out game' of seeing how much money they can make. All this nit-picking of 'precise' grades, all of these coin varieties that one needs a high power magnifier, or, a microscope to see a minute difference in details to me is a waste of time and causes a lot of confusion to many people. An error on something like a 1955 double die cent is significant, an 'error' on something like the 1995 cents that was so minute is just not worth it to me to get excited about. I truly believe that the advent of grading services have created a lot of division in the hobby as well as artificially pushed up prices on a lot of things. When I began collecting in 1968, most people were busy putting together complete sets (or as best as they could complete them) and not worrying about how high their coins would grade. They were happy if they could buy (or, if lucky, find) coins to fill their albums and later upgrade, after learning more about the series they were building. For a long time now, there seems to be competition for having 'the best' and these grading services can and do occasionally change their standards on certain coins. ("Gradeflation") When PCGS and NCG came on the scene, the intention was that coins would be traded like stocks----every coin grading a certain grade would be the same---an MS 65 1881-S Morgan dollar was an MS 65 1881-S Morgan dollar and was worth x--amount. That never happened as those MS 65 1881-S Morgan dollars with the same grade could have a much different appearance and have different values, causing confusion to many people. I also recall one or both of those companies in the late 1980s initially refused to grade coins after 1964 because at that time coins after 1964 were considered too common. With speculators looking for the perfect MS 70 or PR 70 grade and the companies looking to fatten their profits, it was too lucrative for them to resist not grading any coin (or note), so they changed their policy making any item is open to be graded. I know and don't care that some or all of my above comments will anger some people, but, sorry folks. Unfortunately, I don't find collecting to be much fun when I go to shows and hear almost nothing but "How high a grade is it? What's it worth?" I understand that business is business. I'm not saying that it's wrong to go for the "big stuff", but I am concerned if the future of the hobby is to grow, we need people who are interested learning about the history of our currency, not just the financial picture. I encourage beginners to read as much as they can and start collecting at the bottom working their way up. With experience, they can later upgrade and hopefully make fewer buying mistakes. Making mistakes happens to almost everyone. As the old saying goes, "Knowledge is power". Good luck to all.
No offense taken on my end. My only reason for grading is because I got a registry going and it’s fun to compare or “compete” with others online and also it’s a nice way to know the value of my collection for my kids some day. I don’t intend to sell my collection but it is nice to know the value. But in general I agree with you. Just let it be fun. Unfortunately PCGS has stolen some joy from me but it will pass and nothing stops me from getting excited about new coins 😁

I use ICG . Fifteen dollars per modern coin. And if you live next to them like I do I just take it up there and drop it off. No delivery. They take them right there at the place. And they have good grading. My first grades were all 67 and 66.
i truly believe PCGS hires people who doesn't know how to grade coins...because you either get "cleaned" or " questionable color" even if the toning was natural 😳 and the rest...LOW GRADE ... PCGS 👈 is just a waste of our time and MONEY that's why i switched coin grading service.

I suspect you are going to be disappointed. Those Morgans aren't going to get a straight grade. PCGS offers a list of the varieties they recognize on their website. I understand the frustration, but it takes time to train the eye. Grading is tough. Cheers!
I typically use the app. Their CoinFacts app lists lots of varieties so I was led to believe they were recognized. I’m not sure why they would list varieties and pricing to those varieties but not recognize them. It’s a totally random list too. Some contain pics of coins they’ve graded and the population but others don’t. It would be nice if they’d leave a note or something on the ones they have listed but don’t recognize. If I was a syndical man I’d say they did it for a reason. Say, maybe to get people to send in more coins and pay for attribution. As far as none of them getting a straight grade. Of the three, one is definitely not cleaned IMO. One is iffy and one is definitely cleaned. Maybe I’m missing something but the lines are polishing marks on those two. The other one looks great and I have no idea why they considered it cleaned. I’ll believe what ANACS says. I have too many reasons to not trust PCGS which many I go through on that other video I have linked at the beginning.
Have spoken to former graders that worked at PCGS, and they just laughed at the grades i got. You have to be a Big auction house to get correct grades, They just tell these infants what grade and varieties the coins are. Kissing ass so they can get a future job with them
Anacs is known to be better for errors, varieties and attributes. For extra they’ll even research your coin if you don’t already know what’s going on with it.
Yeah it’s only like $2 or $3 more to have them research it. I pay that even if I think I know because some varieties are so similar you could submit it for it but be slightly off and miss it. It’s worth the little extra.
You sir are correct, clearly it was an amature looking at those cleaned coins. You sir need to get a nice 16 power glass, it will help you bunches. Yes the customer service is terrible plus when you get to someone it usually is not someone who can help. Hard to get a real person until you email.
If you’re talking about the front steps then you’re wrong. If you’re talking about the steps on the side of the monument then PCGS does not require the side steps to be full. I’ve gotten the FS attribution on several coins without the side steps.
I don't think pcgs ever recovered from the big covid epidemic! It seems everyone is having issues with pcgs, I'm personally considering cacg from now on

I will not talk about their service, there seem to be some real problems at PCGS. But in this case - their grading is absolutely correct. Anybody who insists that these Morgans where not cleaned should switch to some different hobby. Or he/she will lose a lot of money.
I like all these points as well. I have two orders submitted. One on its way back. I’m sending in more tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll appreciate how much they make from me haha.
The nickel should have gotten a FS designation, but arguing grades is like arguing balls & strikes with an umpire. Sucks but you're better off cracking it and trying again than arguing over it. If that's by design or not is personal opinion... That 1897-S and 1885 both look cleaned. Even if not, would you put that in a straight graded holder if it was your name/reputation on the line? I wouldn't. Not trying to be *that guy* but takes these lessons and learn from them. I will give you their variety attribution was (is?) severely lacking for a while. The grading has seemed fairly consistent though. I love ANACS as much as the next guy, but you're going to lose at a minimum 25% of the value on a Morgan vs one in a PCGS slab. Literally any other coin is fine, but Morgans are their own bag and PCGS rules the roost for the series.
I know those Morgan’s look cleaned but under a loop they sure seem like polishing marks. I’m not sure how someone can clean a coin right up to the edge of the device and not follow through the devices. If it’s their reputation they worry about just because it’s not a “pretty” coin then they aren’t doing their job. Their job is to grade. @@rockysramblings It's no sweat of the balls of PCGS to give you a shit can grades on your coins. They use accounts like yours as a dumping ground to keep their "tough" grading statistics up. Coin grading is an opinion, not a science. Their new increasingly infamous grading label is "questionable color". Yes it's a questionable and it part of what they are being paid to answer, not leave it floating in the air.
Well, I heard PCGS graded coins are preferred at the Auction houses, but at the end I am not sure. Cleaned coins appear to lose value at the grading places.
You should try taking a junk coin and dipping it in that stuff and doing your cleaning/polishing and then put the coin in a holder and record any changes that happen over the next few days. I’m curious to know if that stuff continues to affect the coin Negatively even after it’s been rinsed. Perhaps it soaks in a little bit and continues eroding to cause “the haze”.
I’ve sent coins in for grading after cleaning them to both ANACS and PCGS and they’ve come back straight graded and still look beautiful in their cases many months later
Don't feel bad they got me for big money and said my coins were conterfit and when I got them back had them checked they were real they were checked out and they were real..
Same with PSA crap, they think they have the world by it’s balls. But once we all change different story. It’s only because they sell better then the others. That’s the only reason why people use them. It’s not because of the true views unless you are apart of the few. Grading companies need to be held accountable!!! The problem with ANACS is their reputation and weak grading standards. About 1 to 1.5 grades lower 99% of the time for their modern era bright yellow holders.
Attribution Fee is Added if they See it. It is the responsibility of the owner of the Coin to pin point your Varieties such as Crack Die. Clash Die. Doubled Die, etc.
@@SMOOTHL33 FS should be designated without paying extra. Sad part is when you talk to support you get two different answers. But every grading service designates it without having to pay for the designation. It’s basically part of the grade. Same with PL and DMPL

The prev post from pennyondime said "pinpoint your variety" so didnt know if that meant the exact variety had to be listed. I thought thats what the extra fee was for, for them to verify which variety it is. I called cust service, waited over 2hrs, for the guy to tell me a diff answer every other sentence. He even told me vouchers are same timeframe as economy when their site says 15 business days. This was last yr btw.
8:10 personally, sending your Morgan for a non valuable VAM to ANACS, rather than keeping it in that PCGS you'll be losing value on that coin. NOBODY wants ANACS coins. I typically won't even look at an ANACS coin... Unless i think i can crack it and send it to PCGS for a better grade, but thats rare.
I’m just a small channel but I’ve had ALOT of people tell me how upset they are with PCGS. When I called to complain about my order there was 85 people in queue. Usually it was around 12. They’re screwing up big time.
If you’re big on varieties you should try ANACS. I don’t have anything bad to say about NGC but ANACS will identify ALL varieties. They aren’t variety snobs like PCGS. I don’t think NGC acknowledges all varieties either but I’m not 100% on that.
PCGS has branded themselves as “the best” and people believe it. I’ve been using ANACS for a few months now and I’m very happy. The grading is the same but they cover more, are cheaper and faster. It’s just what people have been persuaded to believe.
The only thing I dont like about PCGS is they have a price guide that Heritage Auction uses to give you an approximate value hey are auctioning. So, PCGS gives the coin a grade and then gives a value in their price guide. To me, that is a conflict of interest.

In my opinion, the biggest challenge I have w/ the TPG's...is the inconsistency and the inability (for coins I've submitted to them) to follow through with their definitions of PL, and their inability to consistently apply the grades: I've seen so many w/MS 63's and 4's on web sites for sale...yet I compare them to the MS 62's given to my coins...and I want to cry. How many times do we see, (ugly, dull and grey) Morgans in 63 and 64 holders - and I'm sitting there w/ 62 and a mirror (to 24 inches) and no PL and the much lower grade. Ultimately, I'm hoping that the GRADING ISSUE, eventually goes to a NON-PROFIT, DIGITAL GRADING SYSTEM. And these (for profits) are out of the picture.
Yes I paid for the variety attribution. The inconsistency is something that drives me nuts as well. Even on the CoinFacts app you can compare coins with the same grade sand vastly different conditions. I was just looking at Indian cents yesterday and they’ve got some 67’s with big gashes in them, but I guarantee mine without any marks on it and barely any wear will come back a 63-64. It’s extremely frustrating
NGC has always been a tick harsher on Morgan's but they are half the time in grading turn around. CAC hasn't disappointed me on just my one order thus far. PCGS took my $275 a year for years but when they lost a 16 coin order and blew me off they lost my business too. Stephanie Sabin hasn't done anything to improve the customer experience. I feel ya.
The customer service is garbage. At some point I’m gonna do a video going over my customer service experience with them. The last order I did with them took 6 months! I was starting to think they lost my order.
I enjoy anacs anyway . There a fantastic company that's been around for a long time . Only reason there not a top tier is because they haven't kept track of all the coins they have graded . But they grade very well and fairly .
I do wish they had an app like PCGS to look up the coins and pics as well as a coin registry, but I’m sure that stuff costs a fortune to develop and maintain.
I’ll have to check it out if ANACS disappoints. But honestly I haven’t heard anything bad about ANACS. Just some people preferring the “prestige” of PCGS. 🙄
I am not a fan of any of the grading services. I believe a person should buy off experience and knowledge. PCGS Doesn’t have good customer service for the simple fact of…… I will put it this way it’s like owning a coin shop and you have people on a daily basis that come in and swear up and down they have a $10,000 coin and you have to find a way to gently let them down to let them know they don’t have one but they’re still going to call you a thief and a liar because they don’t really have the knowledge. I think that’s why customer service is so bad at these companies is because if they listened to everybody, they would never get anything done and they would be talking to brick walls and most cases because let’s face it slabs are for uneducated people who don’t know what they’re buying..
Yeah I understand that. Being a business owner I get it. But the way they go about it is pretty bad. They pretty much say if you disagree, send it in again, pay for the reconsideration fee and maybe you’ll get it this time. They turn their “alleged” screw up into a money making scheme. After fighting with them for 2 months, they finally took back about 7 of them and of those they agreed with me on 5.
I sent five 1964 Kennedy half dollars to PCGS for grading. I had these for 40 years before I deceided to send them in. I have never cleaned them. All five came back as cleaned. I'll never send anything to PCGS again.
I agree, the phone call center is Mickey Mouse and the supervisors are no better. They care less about small guy, they want large dealers and coins MS64 and above.

However, now that PCGS and NGC are both owned by hedge funds who care nothing about the hobby, their reputation is becoming crap, which is good. I hope they both go down and take CACA with them.
I agree that their service isn't great. That said, you need to temper expectations when sending in ultra moderns like that 87 nickel. The coin needs to be spotless to get top pop. Im eager to see what anacs says.
I’ve heard that before about the modern. Doesn’t make sense to me that they’d grade them at a different standard. Shouldn’t a 66 be a 66 no matter the type of coin? But I’ve seen it as well. Im planning on submitting my GSA slab i feel i got burned on just to strictly varify if my suspicion of my coin being cleaned in the slab to be true. I don’t use PCGS anymore. I whined about the grades on some of my older vids but this video and the PCGS hate vids are the last orders I ever will do with PCGS. Well, almost. Anyway. They may have been good at one point but they are trash currently. They have screwed up so many things. I’m not saying the grades, I’m saying billing, varieties, wrong labels, etc. this video is around 6 months old or so. I went through 2 months of arguing through emails with them for them to finally give me money back for over charges and correct wrong labeling, classify varieties, etc. I will continue to complain about them so that people don’t waste their money on this company. I personally have been loving ANACS. I haven’t used NGC, but I can’t imagine them being as terrible as PCGS. I will do a comparison video soon. Thanks for watching. Hope you stick around.

I understand your frustration. You send them in hoping mainly for designations or varietys. I have to wonder if a coin comes back details do they then not allow varieties? Either way word is being spread load and clear that PCGS is in a downward spiral.
They do give varieties on details coins. They gave them to me before. It may be with these ones that the total lack of clarity on which coins are recognized by their Variety snobbery is why they didn’t issue me any variety. It doesn’t make much sense to me why they would list some varieties but not all varieties and then out of those few varieties, they don’t detail which ones they recognize.
Under 1897s, even though they didn't grade it, they still deemed it AU. So if you don't get the variation you want with the next grading, you'll be out a lot of grading money for an AU coin.
There VAM is what I was looking for. I sent it to ANACS. They’ll give the VAM whether it’s a TOP VAM or not. From now on I’ll send to ANACS and if it’s something worth more money I’ll then crossover to PCGS.
I've submitted to pcgs and all my submissions were sent back as fake. I then sent them to anacs and all got the grades I expected. It was 2 soverigens and 3 german 10 marks all gold and one of the best grading company said they were fake. Ya PCGS had failed again and again
The Jefferson is just not FS. If you can see all 6 steps at only an angle you aren't going to get full steps at from the TV you showed, you can see 2 areas on that last step that's missing a small portion.

PCGS could best be described as being like a public utility. Like the gas company, the Post Office, the cable company.
Cleaned or Polished ~ that 1897 Morgan (4:18) was harshly messed with and deserved a DETAILS grading at the very least. Tbh, I'm surprised you even sent that one in to be graded. Those scratches, regardless of the cause, make it an ugly coin.
I assume you mean 1897. No Morgan is an ugly coin. Some have just had harder lives than other. I have them in hand and I cannot see what would be considered cleaned. They are polishing marks. Doesn’t mean there is something somewhere on the coin that was cleaned and I’m missing it but when you ask them why it was framed details they just tell you “our graders didn’t leave any remarks” why not point out the cause? We will see what ANACS thinks. And if a coin has a variety that I think will be attributed I send it in. Cleaned or not.

If you think that is bad I knew a guy trying to sell a 1987 toned cent MS 63 by PCGS on Instagram for $60 ! He got mad after I pointed out he made a bad decision sending that coin in for grading and he was trying to get back grading costs and proceeded to insult me and even troll my posts for awhile. Last I seen before I blocked was he knocked it down to 50. Cent had really nice toning but I get plenty of nice 80s toners just roll hunting.

I can see being upset about the lack of attribution for VAM’s, but in my opinion, all of them that were graded as cleaned were cleaned. Look closely at about 2 o’clock on that 1885-O right behind Liberty’s head at about 5:58 to 6:02 of this video, as an example. I think those fine scratches there were what they identified as being cleaned versus the scuff marks in front of Liberty’s face. The customer service you described, though, was horrible, and I understand why you’re done with them.
Could be but I’m sending them to ANACS and we will see what they say. These aren’t even the top ones I had concerns about. That’s another video. I don’t like getting details grades of course but my bigger issue was the lack of VAMs attributed. Again, ANACS should help me figure that one out. They give ALL the attributions instead of only certain specified ones.

IMO if someone doesn’t damage the coin then who cares if it was cleaned or not. The one I see as cleaned here was scratched and I can see that but I really think the other two had die polishing marks and the grader was inexperienced.
@@rockysramblings You're missing glenn's point. A coin is definitely damaged when lines (as you want to call them; I call them scratches) are left on the surface of the coin via polishing. And polishing is a form of cleaning. Imho, sending any scratched coin in for grading is a complete waste of money; and b*tching about it afterward is a waste of time.
@acousticshadow4032 Rocky is stating the "DIE" was polished. Not the coin. The over polished die then transfered the polish markings to the coin. Completely different than polishing the coin.

Most Morgan’s don’t actually have die polish lines. I don’t recall ever seeing a 97s with them. Now a 80s or similar yah it’s common
The 1897s looks like it was clean with a wire brush to me .and I’ve been doing work in Morgan’s for 40 yrs.

Some die marks give that type of look showing lots of tiny scratches. Older coins had planchet scratching prior to minting.

I have never submitted coins until back in November when I was at a coin show in Chattanooga. I submitted them to ANACS. I had been waiting to for a while between the 3. I decided to go with ANACS and not NGC or PCGS because of the price, long turn around, and you have to join their club crap. I have began to believe that a lot of the things you hear bad about ANACS is probably from the other 2. So I went with ANACS.

Holder with large 3 Ears or Four Ears is the Ugliest Holder in any Coin Grading Company because you can not see the whole part of the Rim and Edges vs the Accugrade Holder that you can still count all the reeded vertical line of a Dime Planchet.
Looking at the trueview for the 87-P nickel, it clearly isn't full steps. PCGS was correct. ANACS may have different (lower) standards. The steps are really "chewy" and need to not have any marks or interrupts which yours clearly has. For the Morgans, did you check the box and pay $20 for the variety Attribution? If so then you can call customer service and they'll pay for shipping both ways and add the attribution. They don't do it for free. If you didn't pay, then you don't get the attribution. The 97-s is cleaned. If there's any hint of cleaning, they call it cleaned. PCGS made the right call.
That’s funny cuz they have given me steps before on a coin that had damage on the steps. So right there they are showing a pretty major inconsistency. Also your definition of full steps is not what they say is needed for full steps. Yes I did pay for variety attribution. I’ve submitted over 100 coins with them and spent $10,000 in grading fees in 2022. I know how to submit the coins. I wouldn’t say ANACS has lower standards. PCGS just has a big head. These are not the only issues I’ve had with them. Watch my video I have linked at the beginning. These are just a few of the coins they wouldn’t take back. And with no reasoning either when I point things out to them. They just refuse to.
@@rockysramblings There's may be exceptions or mistakes out there by PCGS, but the PCGS definition for FS says "Any major disturbance or interruption of these steps or lines, whether caused by contact, planchet problems, or another source, will result in the coin's not being designated FS." And what I see in the TV is major interruption of the steps. Wish I could post a graphic here. As far as Morgan VAM designations, it's true that PCGS only recognizes certain ones and if they don't recognize it, it probably doesn't add any extra value. But if you are paying for a service (attribution) they didn't provide (you weren't clear that you selected this option in your video, I had wondered if you had simply left a note), PCGS will correct it at no cost to you. It's not about whether a company does or doesn't make mistakes, it's about how they handle those mistakes. I get that PCGS CS is hard to get a hold of, I have experienced that myself and I'm disappointed they haven't gotten better yet. However, there's a reason why coins PCGS holders sell for more than those in ANACS. It's like complaining about the best restaurant in town having long lines are being hard to get a reservation at. You just deal with it or find an inferior one.
@rockysramblings - You are correct on two things. PCGS does tend to wield a bit too much power and arrogance. But they are stricter. Rare exceptions exist, but in general they are stricter than the others.

However I can't forget when I went to a show, pulled out some coins and the guy was eating a sandwich and started to pick them up without even wiping his hands off. I grabbed my coins and never sent anything in. The market still does not like Anacs maybe in a few years.
@@rockysramblings I'm a step fanatic, and all guidelines say all steps (5 on older, 5 and 6 on modern) must flow completely unobstructed, with no gouges, marks, weakness of strike.... A full step nickels is likely one of the very first 300 or so struck from that particular die. One look at a full details nickel, you'll understand why they are so hard to obtain. The die weakens on the reverse dead center, just left of center one earlier Jeffers. Take your time when pressing the issue, you don't know as much as you think, but it's cool. Everyone has a little confirmation bias, and we see what we wanna see. PS; two sets of eyes are way better and useful than one set. Even if one set is slightly crossed or tilted. Just no gouges!

This was tough to watch damn. First of all I 100 percent guarantee Anacs will call those last 2 Morgan’s cleaned. The lines dance in all different directions which indicates cleaning not polishing lines. I seen lines on the devices as well. Send in crappy coins get crappy grades
Second that nickel looks too mushy on the left side for full steps and certainly doesn’t have 6 full steps to qualify for Pcgs.
Oh and don’t waste your money getting images from Anacs they are complete trash. They literally look like someone sat it on a desk and took a photo of the entire slab and coin with a IPhone 8
I have one coin in with them currently to test their images because i enjoy posting the images when showing the coins to my subscribers. So I will see how that turns out. I’ve already had them crossover a “cleaned” coin from PCGS that regraded as MS62DMPL. So not saying they’ll all be that way but I’m pretty damn happy with ANACS so far. They’ve graded about 50 coins for me so far.

Bro, that 1897S looks heavily cleaned. There's a big difference between die polish marks and cleaning. The polishing was done on the dies, so the "scratches" will be raised, but when its cleaned the lines are scratched into the metal
I’m aware but thanks for the info. I did send two of these disputes cleaned Morgan’s to ANACS. One ANACS agreed was cleaned. One came back MS62 DMPL. Can’t remember which coin tho. I’m gonna make a video sending in all my cleaned PCGS coins to ANACS and see what comes back. Well, the ones I have suspicions of anyway. Theres several I have that I was naive about when I first started sending them.
They are big on "questionable color" at pcgs. I sent something in 20 days ago, and all they did so far was marked received. Is anyone quicker?
ANACS is usually quicker and fairer in their grading. PCGS is too quick to label any line as cleaned.

On your submission did you check the attributes box? You have to pay for it. PCGS use to put attributes on a libel like ‘ Bugs Bunny’ but now you have to specify you want attributes.

You must not have watched the video. I was fine with PCGS on many orders. But they fucked up big on my last orders and their response to me is not what a good company should do to a customer that has dropped $10k on them in one year. It's funny! I have around 4000 silver coins. Mostly junk silver coins and none of it is in a slab. I live in Switzerland and slabs for coins are very uncommon in my country.

am an artist and have alot better trained eyes than any of what so callled grader i can engrave a coin so we work to regulate sue them and demonstrate i canget more than 50 peupuls just familly and friends who is intersted
The subjective coin grading is flawed. A new grading method with AI is needed for coin collectors.
PCSG ms62 is less than it's worth the cost. You get what you pay for
Just go to any coin show and any smart dealer will not want or sell ANACS graded coins there always over graded and there value is horrible, if I happen to somehow have a ANACS coin I always break it out and just keep raw. We dealers can't stand a ANACS coins...

They want you to resubmit and pay them double. I had to fight with them for 2 months to correct the mistakes they made. They’re horrible. Buy the coin, not the holder.

These are accurate grades and I'll tell you why:
1987-P 5C: This coin that you think has FS does not, but it's really close.
Can you count five steps? Yes.
However, the first two steps have chatter on them, in which they will not give you the FS designation because of that. Great coin, i must say, but they just didn't agree.
Morgan dollar varieties in general: You have to label what varieties they are so they double check in the notes while creating a submission. That way, they know what variety they should pull up first to see if it is or not. I don't know if you already do this, but just in case.
1885-O: I half agree with you? But, that does look like cleaning to me as well. It looks heavily artificially chattered, like it's been sanded in some places.
1897-S "Polished die": That is cleaning. When they polish a die for a Morgan dollar, they do NOT do it that harshly. You rarely see a morgan dollar that isn't cleaned with that harsh of polishing marks.
PCGS knows what they're doing.
You are not the only one getting screwed by PCGS. I sent in 5 conditional rarities and they didn't give one stamp designation ( Full steps/ Full bands, etc) Sent 2 in on new order without the error designation. They got the stamp designation but they lowered the grades!!! Gonna call today to complain. How can a Jefferson nickel go from Ms 66 to Ms64 in a month!
You should complain! They need to know that they are screwing up big time and they either need to train their guys better or get rid of the ones causing the problems if they want to maintain their so-called best in the business status

Yes. Phone and email. I had to take pictures with a microscope to prove to them that they were wrong about a variety and it took me two months for them to resolve some of the issues and get my money back for other issues. I hate them. I use ANACS

@@rockysramblings So I basically wrote an article when emailing them, demonstrating with pictures how they screwed up and did not give me my variety designations (and I used other coins from PCGS' website to compare and prove it).
Their response was something that appeared scripted and was about "grading" - which is not what I am taking issue with, I am taking issue with variety designation.

Collecting "RAW" coins is always a crap shoot unless you are good at recognizing cleaned coins.
My problems with PCGS stem from more than cleaned coins. Gotta watch the other video. This was just a small portion of my concerns.

I made this a while back and don’t have time to look back at which one you’re talking about specifically but I have sent one to ANACS that PCGS said was cleaned and it came back MS62DMPL 🤷🏼♂️
Hey I am not big fan pcgs but you must know anacs graded coins will cause you to lose money and those coins will not bring same money as pcgs or ngc and next thing you found out is only the major varieties increase value most Morgan dollars have some type van or die crack strike thru but it does not increase value unless big variety good luck with pcgs maybe try ngc you buy some nice coin I would try ngc before anacs or see if you can send into CAC grading but you think pcgs tight man o man CAC is worst good luck
You have to pay the $18 for a variation to be designated. PCGS will not give one otherwise. You could send in a 1955 double die Lincoln cent and if you don't pay the extra amount you will have it slabbed as a 1955 Lincoln cent with it's grade only.
I know. I paid for it. In fact, if you don’t receive a variety they are supposed to only charge half the fee, but they charged me the full fee. After 2 months of arguing they finally gave me half the fees back.

I don’t know which is worse. When I sent in my coins to grade at NGC, I usually had to wait 4-6 months. They always charged me 200-300 more than what I had calculated. I suppose to get discount on coins grading because I bought the most expensive membership, they acted like they can’t do basic math like add, minus, multiply etc…They charged me for coins that they claimed “scratched “ without capsulate them. I was going to try PCGS, but just not very attractive to the look of the slabs. When I store them, they fitted awkwardly. Watching this video brought back memories I had to deal with NCG. The customer service was awe full. I did that to discourage people calling them. I found a bunch of CC Morgan dollar coins in the attic of the house my brother bought . I need to grade them.
I have heard good things about NGC but ever since this happened to me I have used ANACS and been very happy with them. I’d be interested in those Morgan’s you found if you want to part with them 👀
How much do these clowns rip you off?? If you Americans knew how to correctly grade a coin, you'd be using the proper British standard - no need for all this MS this, MS that CRAP! Thanks for sharing because I was going to go to CAC for grading but now I'm not. Also, I had a 1921s Morgan Dollar that was already graded by ICG at MS66 and I took it to PCGS and they bumped it all the way down to DAMAGE and AU. I lost $12k dealing with PCGS and now my coin is only worth about $27. I think I will go with ANACS or NGC. I will definitely stay away from PCGS and CAC unless I'm just getting a sticker from CAC to go along with ANACS or NGC grading.
I don't care what anyone says about my following comment(s), but here's how I see the hobby. I say ALL grading services is a bunch of B.S., EXCEPT for verifying if an item is genuine or counterfeit. I could care less what 'grade' someone would assign an item of mine is. It's my opinion that collecting ANYTHING should be a fun and educational hobby, not an avenue where one tries to play 'the crack out game' of seeing how much money they can make. All this nit-picking of 'precise' grades, all of these coin varieties that one needs a high power magnifier, or, a microscope to see a minute difference in details to me is a waste of time and causes a lot of confusion to many people. An error on something like a 1955 double die cent is significant, an 'error' on something like the 1995 cents that was so minute is just not worth it to me to get excited about.
I truly believe that the advent of grading services have created a lot of division in the hobby as well as artificially pushed up prices on a lot of things. When I began collecting in 1968, most people were busy putting together complete sets (or as best as they could complete them) and not worrying about how high their coins would grade. They were happy if they could buy (or, if lucky, find) coins to fill their albums and later upgrade, after learning more about the series they were building. For a long time now, there seems to be competition for having 'the best' and these grading services can and do occasionally change their standards on certain coins. ("Gradeflation")
When PCGS and NCG came on the scene, the intention was that coins would be traded like stocks----every coin grading a certain grade would be the same---an MS 65 1881-S Morgan dollar was an MS 65 1881-S Morgan dollar and was worth x--amount. That never happened as those MS 65 1881-S Morgan dollars with the same grade could have a much different appearance and have different values, causing confusion to many people. I also recall one or both of those companies in the late 1980s initially refused to grade coins after 1964 because at that time coins after 1964 were considered too common. With speculators looking for the perfect MS 70 or PR 70 grade and the companies looking to fatten their profits, it was too lucrative for them to resist not grading any coin (or note), so they changed their policy making any item is open to be graded.
I know and don't care that some or all of my above comments will anger some people, but, sorry folks. Unfortunately, I don't find collecting to be much fun when I go to shows and hear almost nothing but "How high a grade is it? What's it worth?" I understand that business is business. I'm not saying that it's wrong to go for the "big stuff", but I am concerned if the future of the hobby is to grow, we need people who are interested learning about the history of our currency, not just the financial picture. I encourage beginners to read as much as they can and start collecting at the bottom working their way up. With experience, they can later upgrade and hopefully make fewer buying mistakes. Making mistakes happens to almost everyone. As the old saying goes, "Knowledge is power". Good luck to all.
No offense taken on my end. My only reason for grading is because I got a registry going and it’s fun to compare or “compete” with others online and also it’s a nice way to know the value of my collection for my kids some day. I don’t intend to sell my collection but it is nice to know the value. But in general I agree with you. Just let it be fun. Unfortunately PCGS has stolen some joy from me but it will pass and nothing stops me from getting excited about new coins 😁

I use ICG . Fifteen dollars per modern coin. And if you live next to them like I do I just take it up there and drop it off. No delivery. They take them right there at the place. And they have good grading. My first grades were all 67 and 66.

I suspect you are going to be disappointed. Those Morgans aren't going to get a straight grade. PCGS offers a list of the varieties they recognize on their website. I understand the frustration, but it takes time to train the eye. Grading is tough. Cheers!
I typically use the app. Their CoinFacts app lists lots of varieties so I was led to believe they were recognized. I’m not sure why they would list varieties and pricing to those varieties but not recognize them. It’s a totally random list too. Some contain pics of coins they’ve graded and the population but others don’t. It would be nice if they’d leave a note or something on the ones they have listed but don’t recognize. If I was a syndical man I’d say they did it for a reason. Say, maybe to get people to send in more coins and pay for attribution. As far as none of them getting a straight grade. Of the three, one is definitely not cleaned IMO. One is iffy and one is definitely cleaned. Maybe I’m missing something but the lines are polishing marks on those two. The other one looks great and I have no idea why they considered it cleaned. I’ll believe what ANACS says. I have too many reasons to not trust PCGS which many I go through on that other video I have linked at the beginning.

Anacs is known to be better for errors, varieties and attributes. For extra they’ll even research your coin if you don’t already know what’s going on with it.
Yeah it’s only like $2 or $3 more to have them research it. I pay that even if I think I know because some varieties are so similar you could submit it for it but be slightly off and miss it. It’s worth the little extra.
You sir are correct, clearly it was an amature looking at those cleaned coins. You sir need to get a nice 16 power glass, it will help you bunches. Yes the customer service is terrible plus when you get to someone it usually is not someone who can help. Hard to get a real person until you email.
Top left steps are not full on that nickel
If you’re talking about the front steps then you’re wrong. If you’re talking about the steps on the side of the monument then PCGS does not require the side steps to be full. I’ve gotten the FS attribution on several coins without the side steps.

I will not talk about their service, there seem to be some real problems at PCGS. But in this case - their grading is absolutely correct. Anybody who insists that these Morgans where not cleaned should switch to some different hobby. Or he/she will lose a lot of money.
I use ANACS Accurate grading, 3 week turnaround, reasonable cost, no membership.
I like all these points as well. I have two orders submitted. One on its way back. I’m sending in more tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll appreciate how much they make from me haha.

The nickel should have gotten a FS designation, but arguing grades is like arguing balls & strikes with an umpire. Sucks but you're better off cracking it and trying again than arguing over it. If that's by design or not is personal opinion...
That 1897-S and 1885 both look cleaned. Even if not, would you put that in a straight graded holder if it was your name/reputation on the line? I wouldn't.
Not trying to be *that guy* but takes these lessons and learn from them. I will give you their variety attribution was (is?) severely lacking for a while. The grading has seemed fairly consistent though.
I love ANACS as much as the next guy, but you're going to lose at a minimum 25% of the value on a Morgan vs one in a PCGS slab. Literally any other coin is fine, but Morgans are their own bag and PCGS rules the roost for the series.
I know those Morgan’s look cleaned but under a loop they sure seem like polishing marks. I’m not sure how someone can clean a coin right up to the edge of the device and not follow through the devices. If it’s their reputation they worry about just because it’s not a “pretty” coin then they aren’t doing their job. Their job is to grade. @@rockysramblings It's no sweat of the balls of PCGS to give you a shit can grades on your coins. They use accounts like yours as a dumping ground to keep their "tough" grading statistics up. Coin grading is an opinion, not a science. Their new increasingly infamous grading label is "questionable color". Yes it's a questionable and it part of what they are being paid to answer, not leave it floating in the air.
Well, I heard PCGS graded coins are preferred at the Auction houses, but at the end I am not sure. Cleaned coins appear to lose value at the grading places.
Yes it’s true unfortunately. But if the coins weren’t in the holders would it make any difference? Buy the coin, not the holder.
You should try taking a junk coin and dipping it in that stuff and doing your cleaning/polishing and then put the coin in a holder and record any changes that happen over the next few days. I’m curious to know if that stuff continues to affect the coin Negatively even after it’s been rinsed. Perhaps it soaks in a little bit and continues eroding to cause “the haze”.
I’ve sent coins in for grading after cleaning them to both ANACS and PCGS and they’ve come back straight graded and still look beautiful in their cases many months later

The problem with ANACS is their reputation and weak grading standards. About 1 to 1.5 grades lower 99% of the time for their modern era bright yellow holders.

I thought thats what the extra fee was for, for them to verify which variety it is. I called cust service, waited over 2hrs, for the guy to tell me a diff answer every other sentence. He even told me vouchers are same timeframe as economy when their site says 15 business days. This was last yr btw.
8:10 personally, sending your Morgan for a non valuable VAM to ANACS, rather than keeping it in that PCGS you'll be losing value on that coin.
NOBODY wants ANACS coins. I typically won't even look at an ANACS coin... Unless i think i can crack it and send it to PCGS for a better grade, but thats rare.
Dealers don’t want ANACS. They’re buying the holder. Collectors will buy ANACS and pay better than coin dealers anyway.

I’m just a small channel but I’ve had ALOT of people tell me how upset they are with PCGS. When I called to complain about my order there was 85 people in queue. Usually it was around 12. They’re screwing up big time.
PCGS customer service is terrible and they miss my variety attributions all the time. I’m trying NGC now so far so good.
If you’re big on varieties you should try ANACS. I don’t have anything bad to say about NGC but ANACS will identify ALL varieties. They aren’t variety snobs like PCGS. I don’t think NGC acknowledges all varieties either but I’m not 100% on that.

PCGS has branded themselves as “the best” and people believe it. I’ve been using ANACS for a few months now and I’m very happy. The grading is the same but they cover more, are cheaper and faster. It’s just what people have been persuaded to believe.
The only thing I dont like about PCGS is they have a price guide that Heritage Auction uses to give you an approximate value hey are auctioning. So, PCGS gives the coin a grade and then gives a value in their price guide. To me, that is a conflict of interest.

In my opinion, the biggest challenge I have w/ the TPG's...is the inconsistency and the inability (for coins I've submitted to them) to follow through with their definitions of PL, and their inability to consistently apply the grades: I've seen so many w/MS 63's and 4's on web sites for sale...yet I compare them to the MS 62's given to my coins...and I want to cry. How many times do we see, (ugly, dull and grey) Morgans in 63 and 64 holders - and I'm sitting there w/ 62 and a mirror (to 24 inches) and no PL and the much lower grade. Ultimately, I'm hoping that the GRADING ISSUE, eventually goes to a NON-PROFIT, DIGITAL GRADING SYSTEM. And these (for profits) are out of the picture.
Yes I paid for the variety attribution. The inconsistency is something that drives me nuts as well. Even on the CoinFacts app you can compare coins with the same grade sand vastly different conditions. I was just looking at Indian cents yesterday and they’ve got some 67’s with big gashes in them, but I guarantee mine without any marks on it and barely any wear will come back a 63-64. It’s extremely frustrating

According to Vam World there are no varieties for the 1898-O that are recognized by PCGS.
Yet PCGS lists 20 on their app.
NGC has always been a tick harsher on Morgan's but they are half the time in grading turn around. CAC hasn't disappointed me on just my one order thus far. PCGS took my $275 a year for years but when they lost a 16 coin order and blew me off they lost my business too. Stephanie Sabin hasn't done anything to improve the customer experience. I feel ya.
The customer service is garbage. At some point I’m gonna do a video going over my customer service experience with them. The last order I did with them took 6 months! I was starting to think they lost my order.

I enjoy anacs anyway . There a fantastic company that's been around for a long time . Only reason there not a top tier is because they haven't kept track of all the coins they have graded . But they grade very well and fairly .
I do wish they had an app like PCGS to look up the coins and pics as well as a coin registry, but I’m sure that stuff costs a fortune to develop and maintain.
I am going to try CACG….they just started soft opening on grading.
I’ll have to check it out if ANACS disappoints. But honestly I haven’t heard anything bad about ANACS. Just some people preferring the “prestige” of PCGS. 🙄

I am not a fan of any of the grading services. I believe a person should buy off experience and knowledge. PCGS Doesn’t have good customer service for the simple fact of…… I will put it this way it’s like owning a coin shop and you have people on a daily basis that come in and swear up and down they have a $10,000 coin and you have to find a way to gently let them down to let them know they don’t have one but they’re still going to call you a thief and a liar because they don’t really have the knowledge. I think that’s why customer service is so bad at these companies is because if they listened to everybody, they would never get anything done and they would be talking to brick walls and most cases because let’s face it slabs are for uneducated people who don’t know what they’re buying..
Yeah I understand that. Being a business owner I get it. But the way they go about it is pretty bad. They pretty much say if you disagree, send it in again, pay for the reconsideration fee and maybe you’ll get it this time. They turn their “alleged” screw up into a money making scheme. After fighting with them for 2 months, they finally took back about 7 of them and of those they agreed with me on 5.
I sent five 1964 Kennedy half dollars to PCGS for grading. I had these for 40 years before I deceided to send them in. I have never cleaned them. All five came back as cleaned. I'll never send anything to PCGS again.
I agree, the phone call center is Mickey Mouse and the supervisors are no better. They care less about small guy, they want large dealers and coins MS64 and above.
I am exclusively ANACS for my grading. They are good, as good as the big 2.

@@GURGLENUTS Their reputation was ruined for no other reason than John Albanese being a prick. Refusing to put the CACA sticker on their slabs killed their reputation. However, now that PCGS and NGC are both owned by hedge funds who care nothing about the hobby, their reputation is becoming crap, which is good. I hope they both go down and take CACA with them.
I agree that their service isn't great. That said, you need to temper expectations when sending in ultra moderns like that 87 nickel. The coin needs to be spotless to get top pop. Im eager to see what anacs says.
I’ve heard that before about the modern. Doesn’t make sense to me that they’d grade them at a different standard. Shouldn’t a 66 be a 66 no matter the type of coin? But I’ve seen it as well. Here’s some insider info. I got ah email from PCGS yesterday telling me to return another coin. Basically just saying “oopsie, we missed it”
Im planning on submitting my GSA slab i feel i got burned on just to strictly varify if my suspicion of my coin being cleaned in the slab to be true. But i also just want to ask for my refund on the coin but well see, either way this was a very informative video on what can happen when submitting, keep up the good work dude!

It's a shame ANACs have such a poor rating, no reason for it...
NGC stated last year had 47 million submissions, joke, how do you handle that volume.

Are they the only coin grading place as I see a lot of these company’s that grade coins and video games own the stuff that gets the highest grades they go out and buy cheap games off the gamers then grade them high and sell them for ridiculous amounts all a scam.
No they aren’t but you pay a membership fee so you tend to stick with that company. However I’ve switched to ANACS now and am far happier

Dude in all your vids all you do is complain about pcgs i feel your pain i really do but I'm sorry you complain way to much i bet they know you by now I'm sure some newb has seen your channel and let the upper people know all you do is complain this isn't a hater comment i under stand but just think of you were grading coins and some guy called every time complaining about the grades wouldn't you get irritated and just spend more time looking at his coins and i call it.... Grade with a grudge.. sometime we think our coins look way better than they do because they are ours. Just saying I like your channel just found it and have noticed every vid you complain like i said i don't blame you but maybe if you want someone to do something for you don't complain about them all the time use the other graders but as you know pcgs is the most trustworthy so I'm sorry I'm not a hater just stating the obvious
I don’t use PCGS anymore. I whined about the grades on some of my older vids but this video and the PCGS hate vids are the last orders I ever will do with PCGS. Well, almost. Anyway. They may have been good at one point but they are trash currently. They have screwed up so many things. I’m not saying the grades, I’m saying billing, varieties, wrong labels, etc. this video is around 6 months old or so. I went through 2 months of arguing through emails with them for them to finally give me money back for over charges and correct wrong labeling, classify varieties, etc. I will continue to complain about them so that people don’t waste their money on this company. I personally have been loving ANACS. I haven’t used NGC, but I can’t imagine them being as terrible as PCGS. I will do a comparison video soon. Thanks for watching. Hope you stick around.

I understand your frustration. You send them in hoping mainly for designations or varietys. I have to wonder if a coin comes back details do they then not allow varieties?
Either way word is being spread load and clear that PCGS is in a downward spiral.
They do give varieties on details coins. They gave them to me before. It may be with these ones that the total lack of clarity on which coins are recognized by their Variety snobbery is why they didn’t issue me any variety. It doesn’t make much sense to me why they would list some varieties but not all varieties and then out of those few varieties, they don’t detail which ones they recognize.
Under 1897s, even though they didn't grade it, they still deemed it AU. So if you don't get the variation you want with the next grading, you'll be out a lot of grading money for an AU coin.
There VAM is what I was looking for. I sent it to ANACS. They’ll give the VAM whether it’s a TOP VAM or not. From now on I’ll send to ANACS and if it’s something worth more money I’ll then crossover to PCGS.
I've submitted to pcgs and all my submissions were sent back as fake. I then sent them to anacs and all got the grades I expected. It was 2 soverigens and 3 german 10 marks all gold and one of the best grading company said they were fake. Ya PCGS had failed again and again
That’s a pretty big screw up on their behalf. I have been considering if I should Send ANACS some of my coins that PCGS has labeled as counterfeit.
Is it any coincidence that PCGS has continued their sub $300 economy special? Maybe to get the noobs trained up on less risky coins
The Jefferson is just not FS. If you can see all 6 steps at only an angle you aren't going to get full steps at from the TV you showed, you can see 2 areas on that last step that's missing a small portion.
I really need to do an update to this video with everything that happened since i made it. If I wait much longer I’ll lose track of what’s what. I can’t remember if I sent that nickel to ANACS and had it come back FS. Stay tuned.
You have to mark down a variety, and pay extra.
I did. On top of that, if you don’t get the variety, they’re supposed to charge half the price, but they charged me full price. Took weeks of arguing with them to get that money back
