Shields only negating a fraction of damage would be perfect. The solution keeps the core idea of an attack-defend cycle, while encouraging you to not get hit by projectiles/explosions through, you know, mining and crafting
You could add dmg types and make shields (and while we're at it armor) better or worse at blocking them, like maybe they're really good against cut dmg but really bad against explosion dmg
Or how about we make it so that swords can parry arrows and attacks but if you parry an explosion it only reduces the damage. This would make PVP so much more interesting and engaging since it would be more fast paced and it would introduce the mechanic of timing.

1. Idea of phanthoms appearing only when ypu sleep too much is great. Couldn't have found better solution. 2. If you've ever tried farming levels manually at night like i've been doing lately, you might come to the conclusion that phantoms are made specifically to make this harder. Because once you hear phantoms you're basically given the choice to either give up your night of farming or power through anyway. Though I'm on bedrock where phantoms do more damage and it feels like also swoop down less often so they're even less fun. So I'll usually just sleep. But i think the idea of night time getting harder and harder while you don't sleep is cool. Because if you're skipping every night, it probably means you're already avoiding fighting for some reason, and probably won't stop doings so just because the night gets harder. But if you're staying up all night, then you've probably got some business with the monsters and are already up for the challenge.
I think phantoms appearing when you sleep too much is good, but I feel like it would make people just sleep more and more or don't sleep at all, because since phantoms only spawn at night, even though more and more would appear the more you sleep, you could just keep sleeping, slowing down the progress of some things, but the easier option. Not sleeping at all would make the main purpose of the bed useless, which is skipping the night. I think phantoms should just be disconnected from sleeping and just spawn in higher places, or connecting it to another thing, like the End City This is just my opinion though.
@@joaocomtil_ they could spawn right before you can sleep (of course that would mean modifying their burning in the sun) and thus render the bed useless for that one night.

It does bother me how there is a clear optimized form of play now. The elytra is the objective best transport, most features are completely useless, rushing the end for shulker boxes and elytra’s. The shield is the cornerstone of combat, and it is best to sleep through the night every time
yeah, in the old design you solved problems by building infrastructure. Now you raid a dungeon to get an item or directly craft it from easily available marterials. It's a 180º turn design wise.
in bedrock edition you have to crouch to use your shield, forcing you to move slowly and making it harder to back away and escape, especially if you need to jump
I think what you where saying about optional challenges lines up with how I feel about the game right now, so many of the new features do not intergrate with old items or old features at ALL. I think this is paramount in the mob votes, what old game feature do phantoms add to, nothing, they just take away from an old feature, sleep. What do glow squids add, again nothing really, and how do they interact with existing features. The team has recently being going towards revamping old features, and some of these updates have been the most well received - nether - but aside from those, it seems like they keep adding these random things to fill out an empty world, and having those things have nothing to do with the existing game.
I made a suggestion once to nerf beds a bit by adding a slight hunger cost (just enough to be negligible at all times except for the first few nights when you're just getting settled). Also, remember how back in beta, you'd sometimes be woken up by monsters if your bed was in an unsafe area? I think those nighttime interruptions would be a neat feature as well and would tie into something I'll mention later. I also suggested adding (or reworking) a mob with a useful drop to only ever spawn outside at night, so players would have to brave the challenge every so often if they want that drop. Alternatively, you could also add some other mechanic that only works at night (slime spawns in swamps are close, but the existence of slime chunks counteracts that). Maybe a crop that can only be harvested at night. My suggestion had also included turning the concept of phantoms on its head. Instead of spawning whenever a player doesn't sleep, it would instead happen when the earlier mentioned nighttime interruptions also happened when the player was attempting to sleep not only in the dark but also under open sky. That way Phantoms would truly become an optional challenge. You could even invert the insomnia mechanic and turn it into an actual effect that prevents the player from sleeping until the Phantoms have been killed.
Some of the most fun I’ve had in Minecraft was when I made a mod pack that was supposed to be difficult. Food was nerfed such that food items got less nutritious the more you ate them, so you constantly needed to seek out new food sources. I paired this with Pam’s Harvestcraft, so that there were, in fact, lots of options at your disposal. Beds were also nerfed, such that they could only skip a part of the night. This incentivized actually building a proper base and made building in general very rewarding, as you actually benefitted from your buildings greatly. There was also some mod that spawned zombie hordes, thus making nighttime a little more terrifying. Tough as Nails and Serene Seasons made sure that the winter was slowly approaching, so preparations needed to be made to deal with that. The result was an experience that was, well, not difficult at all - I didn’t die even once. Instead, the game incentivized me to do things that were actually meaningful, and dealing with the challenges the game threw at me actually felt rewarding. Building a larger house gave me more freedom during the night. While exploring the local woods around me I found new food sources, which came in very handy. In fact, discovering new recipes that I could make with the ingredients at hand felt incredibly rewarding. I also had some geology-related mod that made it so that ores veins were rarer but larger. This meant you actually had to go out and find an ore vein if you needed a specific ore - again, much more rewarding than just digging around in some random cave. Vanilla Minecraft, on the other hand, is just boring. Why do stuff if it doesn’t solve any problems, you know?
@@drjian6852 I don’t think I still have it and I had to abandon it for technical reasons (one of the mods had a bug that caused a NullPointerException to be thrown when a certain mob from another mod spawned, and the bug was fixed in a version of the mod that was made for a newer version of Minecraft, so I couldn’t upgrade). Quite a shame, really. I spent so much time installing mods and tweaking their config files to make them compatible and balanced, only to run into a bug that just couldn’t be fixed.
Aww dang that sucks. Its actually really funny because Ive done the opposite for my minecraft game. I wanted to really lean into the warm feeling stardew valley has so I downloaded serene seasons and farmers delight for seasons and better cooking, and MCA reborn for different skinned villagers.
@@evelynn1173 I did that, too, for one of my worlds and ended up having zero motivation to do anything because nothing was really meaningful. I did have Terralith installed with some nice shaders, though, so at least I had some nice sights to look at while exploring.
awesome video! i always find myself comparing old mc design with the new and it’s a whole new game, for the better and worse. But as someone who prefers the 1.9 combat over 1.8 and below (don’t kill me ppl) i still dislike how OP the shield is and wish they would do another combat update to balance and refine the combat overall. I think mojang need to add a hostile mob that can use the shield as well that would be fun!
Regarding the shields, I don't know why they really added them in the first place. I feel like a lot of minecraft could be finetuned if they just stuck to the ol' if it's not broken, don't fix it saying
@@caramelldansen2204 by the old food system you mean healing by eating or lack of the second, invisible bar? I think timing is better than pure mechanical skill. Also the dynamic between axes and swords is nice, good to see people use more than 1 weapon for melee and 1 for ranged combat.
this video is so great at analyzing/solving problems. really loved the skeleton ai example, would love to see more mobs react to the player's combat like that. do you have a discord I can contact you at? would really love to talk about this kinda stuff
The increased radius for the bed would work if it also checked for whether monsters could path to the bed so that building a house or finding a village is a viable safety option. But really, most changes to make Minecraft "harder" and "balance OP players" seem like they do more to make the game frustrating for casual players. Phantoms would be better if you could craft a variant of elytra from them. More fragile, unenchantable, can't be used with rockets, but cheap to craft.
love when one of my favorite smaller Minecraft channels references a video by one of my other favorite smaller Minecraft channels. this is great analysis of some of the failings of modern Minecraft, and I wish Mojang would implement ideas like this in the game
if this is anyones first time seeing this channel, I HIGHLY recommend watching his other videos and even reading the comments, they're super entertaining and interesting.
It's really bizarre to me how an axe can disable a shield, but a MASSIVE EXPLOSION is super easy, barely an inconvenience. Shields should be a projectile counter as its main purpose. Melee hits should be decreased rather than nullified (like a slightly stronger version of the sword block pre 1.8), explosions should disable shields like axes do, but projectiles like arrows or fireballs should be the same as they currently are.
actually a good video that addresses some key issues and fixes on the contrary.. entirely for the betterment of the game and it being more loyal to its core theme W!
I have an idea for elytras, at low altitude, you slow down faster so you need to use more fireworks to keep going fast, and your top speed is limited to that of a really fast horse. At high altitude, you go faster and slow down less, so you can fly further, however, the more fireworks you spend, the more phantoms appear, and the phantoms only appear at high altutude, so the elytra becomes a tradeoff between efficiency and safety
Phantoms are the worst. Absolutely horribly implemented mob that just forces you to sleep when you're trying to build some skyscraper or other fun stuff. I disable them in every server I host. In my pack, I made it so that sleeping only really works sometimes. also, the mod nyx adds some cool features that make the nighttime more interesting
Great video. Maybe lock the bed crafting recipe until you find a naturally generated one? I quite like how beds function in mid-late game; night simply becomes a nuisance rather than a challenge. As for the phantoms, I don't like the idea of being tied to sleeping in any way. That will always just encourage either sleeping every night or never sleeping, depending on which approach is taken. It would be much cooler if they spawned regardless of sleep in, like you mentioned, high places. Now, I have never played survival Minecraft before shields were introduced; they've always just been a part of Minecraft combat to me. Still, I do like the idea of a parry feature. That would certainly make combat less monotonous.
I heavily rely on the shield these days to survive more than 1 day and for any adventuring, and yes im a slow at a distance type fighter in games, but before the shield i felt like i could survive without a lot of effort, but now if i dont have it im dying all the time, and theres no use of me playing without one 24/7 now.
I really like your ideas here. I'm scared of the future of difficulty in Minecraft. It's what made the game really fun for me back in the early versions, and putting specific mods and rules into my playthroughs just for the extra difficulty doesn't always feel right. (Ex. making wool obtainable only after gaining shears, or a rule of thumb to not steal anything from villages.)
The solution I like to propose for nerfing elytras is: replace existing elytra physics with the Do A Barrel Roll mod's flight physics (more difficult to maneuver, reducing their efficiency and safety in tight situations, and it looks cooler) remove explosionless fireworks from the game (forcing people to either experience fireworks explosions to be self propelled, which is unreasonable for many players, or just to have their elytra be unpowered) I personally like your phantom solution! I like shields and rely on shields and I don't want them to be nerfed (in fact, i buff them by installing a mod that reduces the tiny delay between hitting the right mouse button and actually raising the shield, because I have dyspraxia and my reaction time is limited)
2:30 - This is a terrible idea. Absolutely horrible. You're not only not solving the problem you're creating a new one that makes the bed just an annoying object to use. How about, you can't sleep through the night. Beds set spawn points, nothing else.
I think they should add tiered shields. Like netherite shields would be like how shields are today, they can block explosions and negate all damage. While lower level shields like wood and iron can’t block creeper explosions and only absorb some of the damage.
Always thought it is how it should be. But I disliked beds since they were added. Setting your spawn so early in the game is extremely overpowered and removes most of the challenge. If death is so little of a punishment that players kill themselves so regain hunger rather than being afraid of dying, something is going wrong.
@@Niyucuatro I think making death relatively meaningless is a good option for people to have (it is a sandbox game, after all), but having the game be challenging in survival is also a very important option. Activating keep inventory already removes the punishment of death (I have literally used death as an alternative to getting food, and as a fast transit method), and hardcore mode increases it; normal survival should be a happy medium between the two, not "keep inventory but it takes a minute, you lose your xp and it's possible to make a mistake and lose everything." Resetting your spawn point should require sleeping the whole night, and sleeping in a dark area should result in you getting jumped, at the very least.
Best way for the bed is instead of skipping the night, It speeds it up, so if your outside mobs can still get you. When ever you get an upgrade like iorn, mobs will become stronger by making the chance of them getting gear like gold tools and armor.
Honestly, I've found myself not wanting to play in modern versions, and turning off major features when I do. Phantoms, pillager patrols, wardens; I just turn them all off because they only annoy me when I use them. Likewise I was also happier with combat when I didn't use a shield at all, and had tons of fun playing mods with two-handed weapons. It felt like movement had a purpose to combat again, even when I had enchanted diamond and a modded weapon.
I agree with the points brought up in this video, and personally would like to see Minecraft focus more on mining and crafting instead of exploration. Everything in game right now seems to be about exploration, while the base game of digging has very little progression or challenges built in. Just as a quick example for what I mean, instead of bedrock there should be a layer of stone that cannot be mined and force the player to craft TNT to get through. Once that layer is broken, only higher tier pickaxes can be used to mine the new type of rock.
Beds shouldn't let you skip the night, og minecrafts difficulty for surviving the night made it much more rewarding. Reseting spawn is great though. Phantom swarms should spawn on random night, just so it's not a nuisance every night. They would be a fun addition to end islands as well. I miss the old combat style where you could parry with the sword. The Combat system should have parry, block, attack, and stun styles added. Otherwise it's just two people standing there swinging sticks at each other.
Mojang's biggest situation right now is the bandaid solution starting from the top down. Mojang is just a piece of property that will make money like Microsoft expects, and that includes how it's designed and played.
Cant agree with the phantoms one, they are too annoying and are not interesting to fight at all, having them on every night would be more frustrating than challenging imo
Increasing the distance a bed can detect mobs would probably be more annoying than anything. Placing torches everywhere is super boring. I think a better solution would be to make beds harder to craft and require them to be inside a house to work. I think the reason they made phantoms spawn when you don't sleep is because sleep is required in real life and they wanted to make the game a bit more realistic, but completely failed and made something that's more annoying than challenging (especially because they're so hard to hit). IMO, a better solution would be to give the player some kind of buff for sleeping, which would go really well with your solution, because if you try to get the buff too much you'll have to fight off phantoms. I agree with your opinion about the skeleton AI, but as for the shield itself I think it should block a certain amount of damage instead of all of it with better materials blocking more (and having more durability). Maybe projectiles can still be blocked because they physically hit the shield, but it makes no sense how a block of wood and iron can entirely negate a literal explosion. I actually think firework rockets shouldn't be used for elytras, because they're too easy to obtain. They're really more of a bandaid solution because people got mad when they patched the arrow glitch. IDK what to replace them with, but it should be harder to get (maybe a rare enchantment that lets you flap the wings by pressing the jump button?) Buffing minecarts is something we've needed for a while, because if you go through the trouble of placing down minecart tracks it should definitely be faster. I also think they should lean into item transport for the mid game before you're able to get shulker boxes. Maybe they could even make minecarts load chunks on their own to send things back and forth without the player coming with it, but that might cause performance issues. Both of these could give an actual use to the furnace minecart and encourage people to use chest minecarts more. As for boats, maybe we could have furnace boats so you don't have to hold down the W key for ages (maybe it could be faster than a normal boat too).
A solution to the problem could be adding downsides to sleeping. Maybe sleeping would require a certain amount of xp maybe 10 levels. So if a players xp is too low then they can’t skip the night.
On beds, I kinda think that being able to rest once for "4 hours" every "24 hours" would be a really nice way to limit the bed. It can't help make the night go faster, but nothing will completely rid you of it.
i think that shields should a) have a cooldown once they blocked some damage b) have "royal guard"-like tech where perfectly timing enemy attacks would nulify them
I've got a bit of a "shield rant" that I sometimes subject people to... In short, it is my personal opinion that off-hand was a mistake, and the shield could have been implemented without it But that is Minecraft in another universe 🤷♂ All we have for now is a small "taste" of what that universe is in one of the April Fools' snapshots.
i (to a degree) disagree with the point that manditory challanges are bad, they force the player into problem solving, which i believe is the part where the human brain is the most creative in, ofcourse, this can become a problem in certain situations, my best example would be the night, it does not provide a challange when you can just place down a bed and sleep, which is annoying, thats why i believe that, to solve problems that are forced apon the player, the player should use natural resources and their enviorment to solve forced challanges. (bruh i typed this comment early into the video because i would probably forget later and 2 seconds later you mentioned that the player had to be creative to solve challanges (2:00), earned a sub for that)
THIS. Nothing is EVER good when the option "you can just do whatever you want" is present. Almost everyone thinks this is the best option, but almost everyone isn't very smart and thoughtful about things. Real and best solutions and options are always do THAT or "you can do this, this or that" (multiple offered options) and not whatever Minecraft is doing. Again, to fix Minecraft you would need to fix certain things with the game, like elytra for example, but as stated above, people are dumb and wouldn't like that change even though in the long run it would be better for minecraft, same goes for mending btw.
You just earned yourself another subscriber I really like how well thought out your discussions are by looking at your thumbnail i immediately thought they where gonna involve lot of open spiteful complaining and tons of "REEEEing" but no you actually show that you love the game and even if you dislike something you just give some thoughts about how it can be improved into the future instead of just saying "REMOVE THIS!" i am looking forward to more content from you
If you could use chains or something to make minecart trains with a limit of maybe 6 cars they would feel much more useful late game. Imagine the potential for item transport around a base.
Maybe add a small (but not too small) chance of the player waking up in the middle of the night due to hunger or a nightmare as well as increasing the radius in which you can't sleep.
2:29 in versions like beta 1.7.3 the bed had to be inside and not leaning against a wall otherwise every time u went to bed you would be kicked out and a mob would spawn meaning you'd have to build a shelter
I agree with everything except the elytra statement because I can think of a situation where it isn't better than boats and that's in the nether in the nether most players opt to make tunnels to get around in there and it's alot of work to make a tunnel big enough to fly in. So me and my girlfriend always use ice and boats in our nether to move around.
What if shield were not weaker but harder to use, for example most melee mobs should have the ability to very shortly disable your shield, just letting you enough time to attack them or flee.
Speaking of shields: The fact that shields also don't block any damage at all for the first half second they are up also slows down combat a lot. It makes you have to basically hide behind the shield and sit and wait while the mob attacks. Especially against skeletons. And even if i wanted to only use the shield the moment mobs attack I can't. Though maybe this was done this way specifically so they are a little less effective against creepers. I think i'd still perfer if they only blocked effectively during that first half second though.
Or make it so that you can keep them up after that first half second, but it consumes your hunger kind of like sprinting does, so that it's still an option but it's not objectively better than everything else. Or just make shields take damage proportional to the damage they block, so that your shield actually breaks if you use it too much.
I don't think making phantoms spawn if you sleep too much makes sense unless you eventually stop the player from sleeping again. They would just always choose to ignore them. I think a better fix would be to have moon phase based spawns, and to additionally make the phantom membrane the only way to repair elytra. Additionally, if you want an elytra nerf I think elytra should only let you stay in the sky for a certain amount of time and then have like a 30 second cool down.
Personally i like shields because trident drowned literally obliterate you in two shots (which also psh you away from them) if you have anything under prot III full diamond, i literally can't find a better solution aside from just building in front of me, which isn't an option when i'm trying to get to the surface because i'm too far away from my only conduit
I feel shields are really overrated. Like yes I can block attacks, but the opportunity cost of torches or food really make me and a lot of players just ignore them.
Just remove phantoms. I want a harder game with more dangerous mobs that can do mob griefing. But they are different. They don't work in Minercraft and are only frustrating, never engaging.
I dont know about the phantom thing, I feel like a challenge should increase in difficulty when a player is interacting with it, rather than taking the path that avoids it. That feels counterintuitive to that challenge. Plus, punishing players for sleeping too much seems like an odd thing to do, when a big reason players choose to sleep isn't necessarily to avoid monsters or phantoms, but because of how dark it can get.
I think it could be nice to make phantoms stronger but make them only spawn after you have beaten the ender dragon or some other challenge. They are only useful to repair elytra anyway so it wouldn’t prevent anything early game and would allow them to provide a stronger challenge
I think that elytras should be much harder to get, in an end update end cities could be harder to raid so maybe you need netherite or something to get an elytra
Author, are you sure you used a shield? While you are blocking the attack of one mob, several more will approach you and in the end you will still have to run away.
I hate this act so much bc why wont you add all of them do you have a problem atleast one guy willl want some random mob so why wouldn't you just add all of them

Could you release the mod pack?
I think they were going to do that with the piglin brute's golden armband, but scrapped it because it was "too difficult"?
Regarding the shields, I don't know why they really added them in the first place. I feel like a lot of minecraft could be finetuned if they just stuck to the ol' if it's not broken, don't fix it saying
Old minecraft combat was about mindless spam and tanking damage, but shields are indeed OP.
@@polishscribe674 it was fine! with the old food system, I think it worked perfectly for what it was.
@@caramelldansen2204 by the old food system you mean healing by eating or lack of the second, invisible bar? I think timing is better than pure mechanical skill. Also the dynamic between axes and swords is nice, good to see people use more than 1 weapon for melee and 1 for ranged combat.

Your videos are the only "minecraft analysis" videos I can say I agree with 100%. Great stuff
Love your latest video. Great job analyzing game structure and mechanics. I would also like to see some of these changes made to game.
Longest Tek video yet, can’t wait to get off work and watch this. Loving the new pfp!
this video is so great at analyzing/solving problems. really loved the skeleton ai example, would love to see more mobs react to the player's combat like that. do you have a discord I can contact you at? would really love to talk about this kinda stuff
Thanks! and sure thing, my discord is tekqgs
So a glider?
I really appreciate thie video, it's very well thought out and has some important criticism that I hope is followed by the devs.
what if any kind of armor except leather slows you down a lot while using an elytra, so you can wear dyed armor for games and such
love when one of my favorite smaller Minecraft channels references a video by one of my other favorite smaller Minecraft channels. this is great analysis of some of the failings of modern Minecraft, and I wish Mojang would implement ideas like this in the game
if this is anyones first time seeing this channel, I HIGHLY recommend watching his other videos and even reading the comments, they're super entertaining and interesting.
I have an idea for elytras,
at low altitude, you slow down faster so you need to use more fireworks to keep going fast, and your top speed is limited to that of a really fast horse.
That would certainly make combat less monotonous.
they should add dark souls shields to minecraft, where if you get hit too hard, you are riposted, leaving you open to an strong attack
The solution I like to propose for nerfing elytras is:
replace existing elytra physics with the Do A Barrel Roll mod's flight physics (more difficult to maneuver, reducing their efficiency and safety in tight situations, and it looks cooler)
remove explosionless fireworks from the game (forcing people to either experience fireworks explosions to be self propelled, which is unreasonable for many players, or just to have their elytra be unpowered)
I personally like your phantom solution!
Your phantom rework is clever. Making them spawn if you sleep TOO much. That works so much better. And they should be more deadly. Faster.
I found your videos about a month or so ago, and I just wanna say that I really like your videos - quite memorable too
Keep up the good work :D
Otherwise it's just two people standing there swinging sticks at each other.
you make good videos
Mojang's biggest situation right now is the bandaid solution starting from the top down. Mojang is just a piece of property that will make money like Microsoft expects, and that includes how it's designed and played.
very fun video, not as comically long as some minecraft analysis are, while still being as informative as its supposed to.
I'd rather they just remove Phantoms. They are annoying and not fun to fight.
Or maybe they should be rare and have less HP
otherwise good video
A solution to the problem could be adding downsides to sleeping. Maybe sleeping would require a certain amount of xp maybe 10 levels. So if a players xp is too low then they can’t skip the night.
On beds, I kinda think that being able to rest once for "4 hours" every "24 hours" would be a really nice way to limit the bed. It can't help make the night go faster, but nothing will completely rid you of it.
They just change that fantom chase player after elytra flying.
i think that shields should
a) have a cooldown once they blocked some damage
b) have "royal guard"-like tech where perfectly timing enemy attacks would nulify them
Beds should only work when you build a comfortable shelter.
Honestly? I still hate the hunger bar.
I've got a bit of a "shield rant" that I sometimes subject people to... In short, it is my personal opinion that off-hand was a mistake, and the shield could have been implemented without it
But that is Minecraft in another universe 🤷♂ All we have for now is a small "taste" of what that universe is in one of the April Fools' snapshots.
Maybe keep the off hand but make it so you get slowered atack speed / less damage when holding a shield
i (to a degree) disagree with the point that manditory challanges are bad, they force the player into problem solving, which i believe is the part where the human brain is the most creative in, ofcourse, this can become a problem in certain situations, my best example would be the night, it does not provide a challange when you can just place down a bed and sleep, which is annoying, thats why i believe that, to solve problems that are forced apon the player, the player should use natural resources and their enviorment to solve forced challanges.
You just earned yourself another subscriber
I really like how well thought out your discussions are by looking at your thumbnail i immediately thought they where gonna involve lot of open spiteful complaining and tons of "REEEEing" but no you actually show that you love the game and even if you dislike something you just give some thoughts about how it can be improved into the future instead of just saying "REMOVE THIS!" i am looking forward to more content from you
That fucking cs2 music caught me sooo off guard I have no fucking idea how I picked up on that.... but nice background song.
But they don't even care about this, mojang nowadays is ruining their game with pro nature crap
completely unrelated, but i respect the shostakovich music in the background (around 4:20)
Turbo carts minecarts that travel Twice as fast
2:29 in versions like beta 1.7.3 the bed had to be inside and not leaning against a wall otherwise every time u went to bed you would be kicked out and a mob would spawn meaning you'd have to build a shelter
you should see the phantoms on dreaded smp
I agree with everything except the elytra statement because I can think of a situation where it isn't better than boats and that's in the nether in the nether most players opt to make tunnels to get around in there and it's alot of work to make a tunnel big enough to fly in. So me and my girlfriend always use ice and boats in our nether to move around.
1.9 combat really killed pvp, ctf servers used to be so good
What if shield were not weaker but harder to use, for example most melee mobs should have the ability to very shortly disable your shield, just letting you enough time to attack them or flee.
How about making them heavier?
Shields are a lifesaver for me, creepers are already the most annoying mob, so shields make the game more fun
Speaking of shields:
The fact that shields also don't block any damage at all for the first half second they are up also slows down combat a lot.
I love me some shield criticism.
Combat isn't that slow compared to 1.8 when you remove shields, just less spammy.
the phantoms are prob based off rakks from borderlands considering they are just as annoying as them if not even more annoying
Really big fan of your ideas for phantom rebalance, good video!
A 30 second cooldown per firework rocket when used to fly would probably a more reasonalbe nerf.
@@ricedanan Yeah, that actually sounds more reasonable tbh
Personally i like shields because trident drowned literally obliterate you in two shots (which also psh you away from them) if you have anything under prot III full diamond, i literally can't find a better solution aside from just building in front of me, which isn't an option when i'm trying to get to the surface because i'm too far away from my only conduit
I feel shields are really overrated. Like yes I can block attacks, but the opportunity cost of torches or food really make me and a lot of players just ignore them.
Just remove phantoms. I want a harder game with more dangerous mobs that can do mob griefing. But they are different. They don't work in Minercraft and are only frustrating, never engaging.
i am still mad we got this but not a new blaze type...
i would like to add something to the discussion but there isnt anything i could bring to the table, so ill just write this comment for the comment god
Great video! :)
Both of those problems can be solved by buidling and placing torches. A far better solution than crafting a bed and skipping half of the game.
minecraft players when they are told to sleep :
Great Video !
I think it could be nice to make phantoms stronger but make them only spawn after you have beaten the ender dragon or some other challenge. They are only useful to repair elytra anyway so it wouldn’t prevent anything early game and would allow them to provide a stronger challenge

Phantoms aren’t that bad, Their Phantom Membrane is useful.
