Is good to see Merseyrail services expanded beyond Kirkby but it would've been better if they kept it as a through station as then Merseyrail services could've continued onwards to Wigan. Reason for this is because whenever Northern plus everyone else is striking it means that the people in Wigan can't travel by rail towards Liverpool if they needed to get there, it would've offered a 3rd direct route to Liverpool instead of needing to go via St Helens Central OR Newton le Willows. Hopefully now that they've finished off Headbolt Lane they should focus on relaying the Burscough Curves and dealing with Ormskirk so that Merseyrail services can expand onwards to Preston. Southport would benefit from a direct service to Preston instead of having to change in Wigan or needing to walk from Burscough Bridge to Burscough Junction.
