In this workout, we are going through a great full body HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) workout.
HIIT training has gained popularity recently due to its effectiveness in raising your heart rate in intervals and providing maximum health benefits to not only your heart but overall health.
HIIT training also helps with overall cardio health and can include resistance for excellent strength building as well.
For our workout, we are hitting all areas of the body and are including some weights. However, you don’t have to use weights. This workout can be just as effective if you feel more comfortable with just the movements without weights.
Also, we are using a chair during some of the movements which you can substitute by using the nearest wall or any other sturdy item that you have around the house. Just make sure it is sturdy and strong to handle your weight on it.
As always remember to drink lots of water and only do movements that you feel comfortable with. If you aren’t sure if you can do this workout yet, feel free to watch it first before starting.
Have a great workout!
Team Meredith

Love this workout!
For lower back pain (I saw you have some), though the walking routines (low impact cardio) will help me give a soft start to break my very sedentary condition. In fact, I used to di this kind of routines many years ago with a fitness instructor (here in Uruguay). Unfortunately, I had to stop too long a while, now having found you is really wonderful!! Thk you so much!!
Hi, Iwas wondering if you do workouts for those with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?
Love, thanks! It is helping me start working out again after a long time.
Good morning, I’m in a wheelchair for a season so do u have any more chair exercise videos coming L
Thanks!
Thank you Dianna!
I would agree with all the positive comments here, and am another 70 year old from the UK, and would only add that I like your manner, not hectoring or cajoling but encouraging, thanks Meredith
Thank you so much Geoffrey!
I am 73 years young. I needed to do a HIIT workout and I found your videos and have been doing this one for 3 weeks and I have noticed a remarkable difference the way my body feels doing the day. I do this one every day and The Best! Posture Balance & Stretch Workout/ Beginner Level/ 41 min every other day (3X's week) and my hips are so much better for it. As I improve, I intend to move on to your more intermediate exercises to challenge my body. I am so glad that I found you. You are awesome!!!
Thank you so much Mattie! I am so proud of you, and I truly appreciate your support!! Keep up the great work!
253 to 217. intermittent fasting and 30 min hitt, 70yr old
@@jerryobrien1088 good for you!
I’m not a senior (52) but am extremely out of shape so this has been a great start for me. Thank you!
I love to hear it, and be able to help in your health and wellness journey!! I’m here for you!
Thank you! I wish I found this sooner but better late than never. After 30 days in a coma with multiple organ failure I miraculously survived but my body has never been the same. Physical therapy has done more to harm to me than do good. But this is perfect. I don't feel pressures to do one more if I'm not feeling it. I go at my own pace as slow as I need. You are very encouraging with helping me not o feel guilty about not being able to do today what I could last time. Why physical therapist don't follow this pattern i don't know. But I'm improving finally after 6 years thanks to your video. Slow and steady with lots of set backs but still forward. Thank you again.
I am so proud of you Jewellianne!! I love how you are listening to your body and doing what’s best for you!! I am always here for you when needed!!
seniors need to look out for fitness more than younger people...thanx for making videos for senior fitness... this is a blessing...!

Hoping and praying if I do this consistently it will help balance my hormones and alleviate the pain in my legs.
You can do it! Stay consistent, listen to your body, you can do it!
I have enjoyed many of your standing workouts including this one. I am very keen to stay fit and healthy and the cardio and conditioning work is now as important as yoga and Pilates I prefer breathing through the nose though . I am 78.
Thank you Sonia, keep up the great job!

Szép napot kedves Meredith! Köszönöm ezt a szuper edzést is!🌹❤💯
Thank you so much Maria, always!
Hi Meredith, thanks again for all your work outs. Im in the UK, (i wrote before as we have an enthusiastic group of seniors in London) We started off with seated workouts but I’ve been trying out your more advanced, standing HIIT workouts. Although I thought they were far beyond me, I now can do a few of them! It’s hard work but definitely doable! I really appreciate the way you do the workouts with the breathing and the explanations.
Thanks again,
XDiana
Hi Diana! Wow, great work...all your hard work has gotten you to do what you did not think was possible. I am so proud of you!! Keep it up and keep me posted on your progress!
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
First time trying this one! Like! And I notice that with consistent use of your workouts there is strength returning to the hip that had THR. Thanks!
So happy you tried this one!! It is a great HIIT workout! And that you are seeing strength returning in the hip--marvelous!! You are doing such a great job, I hope you are proud of yourself, I am!! Keep it up!
Take care, Meredith
This is the first time I tried this. I liked it and it was very manageable for me. Thank you.
Great job! Thank you!
Thank you so much, Meredith! I saw a lot of HIIT videos but wasn't at all sure I'd be able to do the without hurting myself. I was delighted to see a senior or beginner HIIT video so that I could try it. I could have run through it twice, but I like to switch things up in my fitness time. Agaiin, thank you. I enjoyed the workout!
I’m so happy you tried the HIIT workout, and enjoyed the challenge! I’m proud of you Sooz!! Thank you!!
A friend told me about your routines. Just tried this one, it is about my speed. Thanks for options and encouragement.
Thank you Judy! Grateful for your friend to help you in your health and wellness journey...and remember we are here for you!! Keep up the great work! Take care, Meredith

Thank you Elaine!!
Another great workout! I kept going with weights throughout and during the breaks. I enjoyed an awesome workout.... Mission accomplished! Thanks so much, Meredith!
Great work Lynn! Thank you for your support!!
Just previewed and subscribed 65 with Arthritis and Osteopenia looks like good content for me.
Thank you Paula, I am proud of you and here for you whenever needed!
I like this woman. Professional yet has an easy going positive way about her. She also is dressed sensibly, not in a half top and shorts so short you can see butt cheeks, so unprofessional.I already do Yoga by Adrienne and will start my classes here too. I am 70 and know the importance of strength training. I take care of my older sister who does nothing but sit and watch TV. She is frail, can barely walk and falls often. I am not going to allow myself to get that way.Thank you, enjoyed the workout!
Thank you Shelley! I appreciate your comment and support! Keep working hard, and maybe we can even get your sister to do some seated workouts:) Take care!
Thank you Meredith. Very good exercises, but I don't like breaks in such a short 12 minute set of exercises.
Yes, we do not put those in anymore. They are necessary for some though. Sorry about that:)
New Sub here! How many times a week is a reccomdation? Thank you for sharing ❤️
Hi Robin, this is good 2x per week! Giving rest between since dumbbells are used☺️
I love your HIIT workouts, thank you!🙂
Thank you Bernadette! They are fun and challenging!!
This is great exercise for elderly people. I am going to adopt this for my daily routine!!
Thank you Yolanda!! I am so happy you enjoy it! Take care, Meredith
I love this workout. I try to incorporate this routine in my daily morning workout in addition to one of your other workouts. Thank you Meredith. I'm a 70 year old senior from UK
I would love to see a standing/sitting workout for belly fat/abdomen that does involve laying on floor, couch or bed. Thank you
Hi Kathy! I am so happy you found the channel and you are enjoying the workouts! I will work on something for the core:)
I appreciate your support! Take care, Meredith
That was PERFECT! Great little workout to boost energy mid day. 👍
Thank you Heather!!
Great workout! Short and effective. Just what I needed. Thank you.
Thank you Celia! I am so happy you enjoyed the workout! I appreciate your support!!
I'm not a senior, but I like low impact exercises; thanks!
Thank you! Indeed all are welcome with our workouts:) So glad you enjoyed this one!
Agree. Love this low impact.
Hi Meredith! Another invigorating workout routine to get my heart pumping! I just found your workouts a few weeks ago and I’m really enjoying your routines! Along with qigong, golfing and low impact exercises, I am reaping the benefits of keeping myself healthy and strong throughout my senior years. Thank you for your dedication to helping us stay fit~ God bless you 🙏🏻😊🙏🏻
That is great, I am so happy you are enjoying the workouts…way to go!!!
This was great! I’m so glad I found you Meredith! I just can’t do the vigorous workouts I want to could do! Thank you thank you thank you!

You are such a gem ! Thank you so much for your time and effort .
Thank you so much Claire!
Just found you. Thanks so much!
With moderate/severe arthritis, after rotator cuff/bicep surgery a few months ago; I need to work better at home so going back to work won't hurt so badly.
Loved this as my first experience with you.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too!
My first workout with Meredith as part of new 7 day Program. Did it 2X through. Really like the reminders to breath and to hold in core. Really enjoy the background music and that there is no timer counting down to the end of the workout which allows one to focus on the task at hand. Followed workout with some lower body stretches for knees which helps with knees issues that I am having.
Great work Josefa!! I am so happy you are off to a great start with you 7-Day Custom Workout Plan! Way to go! Keep up the great work and remember I am here for you when needed! Take care, Meredith
Hi Meredith, great video! Just wondering how old we need to be in order to be classified as a senior?
Senior citizen is a classification and age is 55+ depending on the resource you use. I don’t like the generalize when it comes to exercises so I use levels for my workouts. Hope this helps:)
LOVE your workouts! Feeling so much better thanks to you
Thank you Terese!! I am so happy you enjoy them and you are feeling good!! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for this workout! Have you done a HIIT video that's more intense?
Hi Janet! Thank you for the comment! I appreciate your support! I have done many more HIIT workouts, and many that are more intense. This is a good one: www.seniorfitnesswithmeredith.com/20-min-hiit-workout-at-home-for-seniors-with-weights-advanced-level/
I hope you try it out, and even more! I will be doing a Livestream this Thursday (8/20/2020) which will be standing and seated HIIT, which will be fun and challenging:) Hope you can join in!! Keep up the great work!
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
This is great! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Watched this video to review and recommend to a Cerebral Palsy support group. Thank you for all the reminders to do what feels right to you. I believe that in itself will help the most. Great video!
Thank you so much Cortney! Please keep me posted on how all goes. I’d love to talk with your group...please email me at meredith@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith.com. I would love to hear more about what you do.
Take care and talk soon, Meredith
Love this, I am only 57 but had both knees replaced so this is a good start to exercise for me:)
Hi Bernadette! I am so happy you found the channel and the workouts are a good fit for you. I have many workouts that will push you physically but will make sure your body and especially knees stay healthy!:) Keep up the great work!
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
@@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith Thank you for the reply, I have struggled since replacement since all hydro pools are closed in Melbourne Australia. A friend in Florida told me about your channel and decided to give it a try, well worth it and I feel good....keep up the good work:)
Thank you Bernadette!!
I would like to see a visible counter like from 30 seconds counting down. Thanks, Meredith.
In the newer workouts we do have that feature. This one is one of the originals where we were still working on things :) Hope you check out the others and see the timer. Thank you!
Very nice, good job!
Thank you Evghenia!!
Thank you. This is very helpful and at a speed level just right for me. God Bless you and thank you again for such a wonderful service to the community; especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thank you Janet! I am so happy to help, and so happy you are enjoying the workout:) Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
🎉 Thank You!
Great job
Thank you Francis!
Meredith, I love this and wondered if you had one a bit more advanced as well?
Hi Heather! Thank you for the comment. I just emailed you with some other more advanced options:)
Continue the great work! And thank you for the support! Take care, Meredith
This completes my work out. I loved it and will repeat. Thank you .
Thank you Rosario! I am so happy you enjoyed the workout!! Take care and stay healthy! Meredith
Hi Merideth, really loved your workout. Do u have a slightly more advanced workout. I am 66 and enjoy weights.
Thankyou again.
Hi Linda! I am so happy you enjoyed the workout! If you go to my website you can put in the workout format you are looking for, level, and even time. It is a great resource to find my workouts: www.SeniorFitnessWithMeredith.com
I hope you find this helpful!! Let me know!!
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
Hi Meredith. Just did this workout first time. Tried some of them with weights, others without weights. Really great workout.
I am 65 and been having high blood pressure and some anxiety issues. So how many times a week do you recommend this? Should other days be pure cardio?
Which beginner cardio exercise do you recommend?
Hi Ramesh! Thank you so much for the comment! I am so happy you found our channel, and you enjoyed the workout!
As for the sequencing of workouts, I do offer a 7-Day custom plan that can help you: www.seniorfitnesswithmeredith.com/product/your-custom-7-day-workout-plan/
It does help me to have the answers to the intake questions so I can make it specific to you:)
I hope that helps! I look forward to hearing back from you soon!
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
What pound of weights are using and suggest for these routines? Thank you 😊
I am using 5’s, although I suggest lighter…wrist weights up to 3’s is sufficient!
שיעור טוב למתחילים. תודה רבה
Thank you!!
Will this burn as many calories as a regular hiit workout? I'm trying to calculate my calories out amount for the day. I'm 130 lbs and 5 ft 7
Especially with holding the dumbbells, it will burn many calories! Enjoy!
@@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith awesome thank you. Love working out to your Channel🤗
Please do this to exercise the beauty every day or 3 to 4 times a week؟
3x per week is enough
@@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith thanks
Hi. Just found you 👍. May I know the weight of the dumb bells & the brand of your trainers
Hi, brand is just a generic. I used 5lb for this but I prefer lighter for cardio workouts.
Hi Meredith I love this workout! I have SI joint and back problems. So getting on the floor is impossible. What other workouts do you suggest?
Hi Jessica! Thank you for the comment and support! I am happy you enjoy this workout. Most of my workouts do not require getting on the floor because I know the difficulties that go along with that. The more "advanced" workouts might have a portion on the floor or as I suggest, a raised surface if available. But I have many Livestreams that are HIIT workouts and others that are longer. Also, more of the recorded cardio and seated workouts would be a great benefit for you!!
Let me know which others you try and enjoy:)
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
I’m not a senior but love your low impact work outs. Only thing is I have bad knees (arthritis) so it’s hard for me to do swats , lunges. Can you do a workout for people with bad knees please?
Hi Angie! I am very happy you have found the workouts and are enjoying them! Thank you for the comment/question! That is a good suggestion, a standing workout for those with knee issues. I have many seated workouts, perfect for individuals with knee/lower body ailments, building up the quadriceps to help protect the knees.
Again, thank you for the suggestion...I will add it to the list of workouts/videos to do:)
Take care and stay healthy!
Meredith
Hey Meredith and crew... Been "engaging " in some of your routines for about 3 months. At the young age of 60.😊🌈 As John Mellencamp said:"Hurts so good" I have worked out in the past but haven't in years so I appreciate what you bring to the table. I've been using 5lbs weights since "starting over " and I'm just curious as to what weights you use with what exercise. Can't help but notice you have a few different ones. I feel I could do certain things with one certain lbs and other things with certain lbs. I don't really want to go from 5lbs to say 7 but 5 to 10. I know the importance of listening to my body and "progress not perfection ".I'd appreciate your input and many thanks. 🙏🏼🏋🏽♀️
Hi Luna! Firstly, I am so proud of you getting back into your workouts. And we are so happy we can help with our channel and the workouts we provide:) As for weights, I like to say different body parts can take different weight. Lower body big muscles, upper back...those can take heavier weights. Smaller muscles like shoulders and triceps may need lighter weights. Of course this varies from person to person but is a general rule of thumb.
Continue listening to your body and working for you long term! Keep up the great work!
Take care, Meredith
@@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith Thank you. However could you share the weight range that you yourself actually use?🙂
Hi! Depending on the type of workout I am doing, I range. Myself I lift a little heavier then in my recorded workouts. I have 5,8,10 in the videos as well as water bottles for lighter options:)
@@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith Thank you. I'm going to power through as I purchased 10lbs yesterday and going to alternate between the 5 and 10. Just did so today. Moderation/ Modefacation. Peace. ✌🏼🙂
How much do the dumb bells weigh?
I am using 5lbs, but could have gone lighter as they got quite heavy over time!
thanks @@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith
Hi Meredith do you do a HIT workout for late 50s? I did your beginner workout for seniors and found it too easy. I walk every day for 45mins but I am not fit. I lost 3st and still can't improve the cellulite on my thighs, arms, and wondered would anything in particular help with that. KR Josephine
Hi Josephine! Here are a couple to try! Let me know how you like them! Take care, Meredith
www.seniorfitnesswithmeredith.com/30-min-seated-hiit-workout-for-seniors-no-equipment-intermediate-level/
www.seniorfitnesswithmeredith.com/high-intensity-chair-workout-for-seniors-30-min-hiit-intermediate-level/
What weight are your dumbells pls?
Hi Robyn, I am using 5lb dumbbells, which is the heaviest I believe should be used for a HIIT cardio workout.
Try to do these every morning....improving and increasing repetions. Thankyou .I am 69
Wonderful Gill! You are doing a great job! I thank you for the support and comment! Keep up the great work!
Take care and stay healthy, Meredith
This would be better with a short cool down stretch.
Thank you for the advice! I do hope you enjoyed the workout:)
how big are the weights?
I am using 5lb dumbbells…that is the max to use, in my opinion, for a workout like this.
I'm 63 and ride, and on occasion race off road dirt bikes, jack my heart rate anywhere from 130-170 BPM. but this is only once a week. I do some gym work, but am looking for something that will simulate the on and off intensity of riding the bike. I think I may have found it, thank you! (I am on RUclips with some ride videos as well) I need to update : )
I’ll look at your videos! Way to go! And thank you for the support!!
Great workout, what is the weight of the dumb bells
Thank you John! I am happy you liked the workout! My weights are 5lbs each dumbbell, but lighter is a good too!
Keep up the great work, and thank you for the comment!
Take care and stay healthy! Meredith
Looks great but I can't do most of those exercises because they require bending the knees which is an activity I cannot do.
I’m sorry to hear that…maybe you can modify and do what you can!
If I do this exercise 4 times a week will it aid my weight loss?
Yes it will Diana! I look forward to hearing about your progress!
Do you know the calories burned through this workout by chance?
Hi Catie! Thanks for the question. I do not know an exact number of calories as each person burns calories at a different rate...depending on exertion, size, age, etc etc. I would give an estimate of 250-350 depending on weights held and energy input. I hope this helps! Take care and stay well, Meredith
4:09 I don’t understand the *HIIT* part of this workout. I thought you had to work really hard, then go slow, then really hard again. I loved the workout though!
I am glad you enjoyed the workout!
@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith what Lynda said ^^^
Can you suggest some replacement exercises for squats? Arthritic knees complaining!
Hi Pam! Great question! There are many exercises you can do to alleviate your knee pain but still work the quadricep muscles: Knee raises, slow and controlled, either in a seated or standing position is a great one. If seated, putting weight on the thigh to really make the muscles work:) And really focus on NOT lifting from the knee, but the thigh area, again to minimize pain in the knee area.
I hope this helps! Keep up the great work Pam!
Take care and stay healthy!
Meredith
Oh Forgot.. have you abs exercises and reduce belly fat? I have an ab roller which I can do 3 x 15 reps. Also strengthening of low back. Thankyou
Yes, I do have a cardio and abs workout that will fight belly fat and tone the abdominal and entire core area.
ruclips.net/video/GD4XbozHNSw/видео.html
Thank you! Meredith
Great workout?
Approximately how many calories does this workout burn?
Hi Carol! I’m not exactly sure, but my approximate is 250-350, depending on exertion, etc.
Glad I found your video, was searching videos for my parents. However, I wish you used easier language in your videos. Quadriceps gluteals - didn’t have a clue what you were on about 🤭. Even saying something like ‘keep your stomach tight’ instead of ‘engage your core’ would be easier for us beginners to understand. Simpler language for us non gym bunnies 👌🏽
Hi Elle! I am happy you found my videos for your parents. Aside from the terminology I use, I hope they are enjoying them.
I appreciate your comment, and understand it completely. I continue to use the words I do because I have found that, if the terms are not know in the beginning, they are quickly learned. And appreciated later, when they are heard from a doctor or physical therapist. I do point to the area that is being used each time. And I know not all will know the word. Most seniors I work with don’t in the beginning but learn quickly and have thanked me for not “dumbing down” things...they are a smart bunch these generations before us!
Again, thank you for your comment! I hope you and your parents continue to enjoy the workouts.
Take care and stay healthy, you and entire family!
Meredith
Hi Meredith, I understand your point. Not at all insinuating they are a bunch of dumb folk, they raised us in life after all! I myself had trouble understanding the terminology as mentioned. However, maybe describing the area and then using a technical term could be easier for all to understand (eg. Bottom = glutes). I know whilst doing the video yesterday I prompted my father to keep his stomach tight when you mentioned core engagement, as he is someone who is new to the whole process and would ignore that if he were doing it alone.
Nevertheless, I am glad we have found your videos and enjoyed the one we tried yesterday. I saw something we struggled with and so suggested an improvement, but this is your channel, feel free to completely ignore it.
Thank you, again, Elle! I do appreciate and value your suggestion! I will try to implement this moving forward:)
Take care!
Meredith
Which heart rate are you supposed to have to consider it highly intensive? The beeping sound of your timer is very annoying.
Hi! Thank you for the comment! Yes, the timer can be annoying, I am sorry about that. As for the heart rate, many variables have to be considered. Depending on your age and level, as well as many other factors. Feel free to email me and we can discuss further: meredith@SeniorFitnessWithMeredith.com
I look forward to hearing from you soon! Take care, Meredith
Craig & I did this workout today 2-27-24😗🦾
