    Some good tips. Not a fan of fascia boards though. Creates a vertical gap for water to collect and rot. Prefer a picture frame border overlapping the end joist by 20mm or so to create a sill.

    I have to say millimeters make sense! Everything is in 10's as it should be. I'm an American and I find our Metric system silly

    • @joannecarroll5504
      @joannecarroll5504 6 лет назад +6

      Agreed 100%, The Metric System is time-saving & therefore labour & money-saving & has many benefits in terms of learning style, capacity & ability/disability. One small thing, by using mm, we are using "THE Metric System", you use "a system of metrics" called The Imperial System ... but you are absolutely correct, the rest of the world agreed with you over 50yrs ago & gave Imperial the boot, but America refused to change, costing itself & all of its commerce partners ever since, a fortune. Not to mention the disadvantage & distress caused to people who are numerically challenged or learning disabled, being forced to calculate 32nd, 64th &128th parts of an inch, when mm are already written on the tape measure or rule, with no calculation required. Your Mr Carter tried to explain all this waste, loss & disadvantage in the 80s or thereabouts & asked that USA reconsider The Metric System. He was made to look like an idiot & told no. After 50yrs , though, I'd imagine there must now be bounds of evidence proving in his favour, wouldn't you?

    • @JohnG-tv3gc
      @JohnG-tv3gc 6 лет назад

      Since when did U.S. change from Cubits to Imperial? Sometimes I just feel like I'm living under a rock.

    • @rileyboyle5968
      @rileyboyle5968 5 лет назад +1

      Do you mean the imperial measurement system that works in inches, feet, yards and miles.

    • @rileyboyle5968
      @rileyboyle5968 5 лет назад

      Edit: Cause that's the system that America, Liberia and Myanmar use. The Metric system is used by every other country. The Metric system works millimeters (mm), centimeters (cm), meters (m) and kilometers (km) in terms of distance measurement in the two systems. Both of these systems serve the same purpose but do it in different measurement types

    • @joannecarroll5504
      @joannecarroll5504 6 лет назад

      Like he said in the video "This is Spotted Gum", a native Australian hardwood of the Eucalypt family (Eucalyptus Maculata/ Corymbia Maculata). We have thousands upon thousands of different varieties of Eucalypts here & almost 1,000 varieties Acacias too. They're different species, but they're both native Australian hardwoods with many similarities, good for outdoor work & often needing no treatment

  • @davejohnson3376

    The string line is just tied around two nails, why not just use the two nails to line up the first board?

      It ensures that there is no bow in the timber. If there is then you follow the string line for the first board and the rest will be straight if you use spacers.
