    I love how Matt thinks so differently than his Father. That IS the difference at this time. Jeff did put him in his "place", and that is needed for Apprentices. They need to learn from a Master, NOT do their own thing! TY Jeff for showing this and not getting angry about how Matt decided to lay the joists. "Put an ARROW to the CROWN!" Was all that was needed. PERFECT! EveryTime!

    I enjoyed hearing from the Brother's what they're doing and future plans. YES Matt--passive income!!! My son is almost 21 and in the community college Paramedics Program. It wouldn't be my top 3 career choices for him, but he is young and can change gears anytime. But I'm super happy he is going the college route for any type of career, so many young adults are bailing on higher education because they don't see the benefit of it right out of HS - the pandemic really did a number on our youth. Jeff, your son's talking about their options and interests helped me to step back and appreciate what a great kid I have and appreciate that he has always been a get-up and go-getter (his 1st job - at 13 yo - was mowing grass along the tarmac & runway at a local small town airport ... until the State of Oregon found out his age.) I adore your channel and like the recent change in the focus of your channel. Kudos Jeff !!!

    This channel is the best, and this deck is awesome. This is the first floating deck video I've seen where you don't mess with blocks, posts, etc, at all. Sacrilegious! I love the simplicity of this. You didn't even put plastic or something at the ground contact points. It's wood on the ground! Mind-blowing! Call the police! I love it. I have been looking at covering a concrete patio with a floating deck, and trying figure out all these complicated expensive plastic anchoring systems, but now I'm like, forget it, this is 10x faster and way cheaper for what would probably be the same result! Here's a question though: if your ground isn't quite level, what's the point at which this approach doesn't work? Like, say you've got 6 inches of drop-off. Is that too much for this approach? What's the point where you say, OK, we have to use anchors, posts, joists, etc? Thanks for all the awesome content.

    • @SubdivisionAuto
      @SubdivisionAuto 3 года назад

      Keeping it simple is not only the key to success but to make it financially viable in 2021. The more complex it gets the more materials and techniques it takes. This is not designed for longevity rather quick and easy.

    Jeff, nice work ok i asked this before and didn't get an answer so hopefully you will see this. I tore down a 7 year old 12 X 24 section of deck at about 9' above ground, 7 years old and tons of wood rot. not thrilled. but I have a 19 X 7.5' swim spa coming so I'm pouring a 12 X 20 pad 6" thick on the ground, I'm going to rebuild the deck at the original height of about 9'. I need to support the swim spa off the pad so that about 20" of it sticks up above the new deck. my question is what would you recommend i use to build up a support at about 5' off the new pad so the swim spa is self supported. weight full of water is about 25,000 lbs. with people and the fact that water is moving etc. say i support for 30K lbs. any suggestions? I live in northwest Georgia so will take more precaution against wood rot this time but wonder is i should maybe build some kind of steel support. ??

    Hello! I’ve never done this before so I have some questions: what do you mean by “crown side up” when you were assessing the joists? And when/where did the concrete blocks get used?!?

    i am confused - I liked the video a lot but why no spaces between the decking - looks like you are butting up each deck board to the next one- but on other videos you made you said to leave a space between the boards for ventilation/drying. Thanks for any info!

    Looks great! I am building a 24x24’ floating deck and need to have it done in a week. I am placing it on a grassy area that is not level, and we are not using deck blocks because we live in the country and we don’t want critters getting underneath or bees. We’re building on the ground. Any suggestions for getting it level? Can we just shim the low areas.? I’ve never built a deck before. Do not have experience, but this looks simple enough. Also, would you recommend building it in one big 24 x 24 section or would you recommend building it in two or four smaller sections? Thanks!

    Being in Texas, I’m worried about how to prep the deck to accommodate for lots of condensation and ground evaporation from the morning hours to the sweltering heat through the rest of the day. If I want a ground level type deck like this, what kind of extra protection can I provide to prevent premature rot from staring along the bottom?

  • @charmnGUY
    @charmnGUY Год назад

    My only criticism is the double joist should be on the outside (more foot traffic) versus up against the house. Also I might turn the whole thing 180, because the joist would have the water on the ground run away from the house without trapping on the crossmember.
    Some are saying what about the top of the deck, water would run across 8 inches quicker than 10ft

    question - a 4x8 deck that is inches of the ground.....I have the right hand side toe nailed to the existing deck with about 14 screws...is hat enough support.......and the other side is supported by 2 concrete slabs at each corner.....is that enough support for this deck which will only be holding up a bbq and snow/ice buildup in the wintertime? thankyou and much appreciated

    Hey Jeff, I noticed you didnt use the concrete blocks for foundation. My yard is only grass. Can I do this very same thing without the concrete or plastic blocks that are now available or do i need to lay gravel under each block? If so, How many blocks do you recommend for a 12x12 deck?
