I'm so glad that you enjoyed I Kill Giants! Great list of books, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a couple of them when I go bring in a bunch of books soon!
I’m so glad you enjoyed Girls Burn Brighter enough to put it on this list! It’s a wonderful, important book, I think. The two that stand out to me most on this list that I haven’t read are What We Lose and This Will Be My Undoing - I’m so excited to read those two! Thank you for the list, Russell😊
You will have to tell me what you think about both of those. I think they are both so so good. And yes - Girls Burn Brighter needs more people to read it.
New to your channel simply loved all the suggestions, from captivating to fun to heartache all the books had all those blends that I always look for. Thanks u got a new fan!😊
Interesting list! I’m currently a third of the way through Red Clocks and really enjoying it. Really want to try the Rao novel after enjoying her short stories a while back. Keep going back and forth within myself about whether Satyal would be for me but I guess I better give it a try, hey?
Oh, I will look for what you think of Red Clocks. I just bought the Rao short stories. I don't think that Satyal would be your thing - but you could surprise me.
As always your lists inspire me. A few of these are already on my radar, and despite having very little experience with comics, I find myself increasingly interested in some that are out now including I am Giants. TFS and happy reading!
Thanks for recommending Red Clocks. I just read it and I finished in in just a few days. Wow, what a book! If I could find more books like that, I'd never stop reading...
That pause at the start threw me hahaha. I have Girls Burn Brighter on my TBR, I don't like happy books so that appeals to me. Same with No One Can Pronounce My Name. And What We Lose. And Red Clocks. Home Fire was in my list too, I wouldn't say it was my winner of the Women's and I wouldn't say she has never written a bad book, I am a fan but this and Burnt Shadows are amazing.
I would love to know what you think of both Red Clocks and No One Can Pronounce My Name. I know that Mercedes loved Red Clocks as well. Shamsie is coming to my area in September and I am going to see her! I am so excited.
Red Clocks your top pick for the year?! Yes, I must read it then. And, how prescient is this subject matter with the possibility of Roe being overturned by the Supremes so topical now. Nice job!
I have not read any of these, but as usual I've added them to my TBR. I was hoping to see The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne which is my fav so far this year. Great video.
So, to be honest - I tried to read Boyne's book and just could not get into it. But I was super crazy busy at the time, so I am going to give it another go. I am so glad you loved it though - I have heard nothing but amazing things. Tell Toddie Hi for me.
May I make a suggestion if you're looking for a new book and a new author."A Glimpse Beyond The Aether" Answers the question: What happens when we die? Check it out. Guaranteed to love it.
I seen you mention kiss of the spider woman a few times. Have you read 2666. Its one of my favorite books. Its from a latin American writer. Roberto balano
I just thought I would recommend a few books for you guys to read! 1. Parvana: It’s about a girl named Parvana who lives in Kabul, Afghanistan. 2. Hunger Games Trilogy: A girl named Katniss Everdeen experiences lots of ordeals in the Hunger Games and the country of Panem. 3. Once: Once is about a boy named Felix who is trying to survive as a Jew in the holocaust. So, those are my favourite books right now! Hopefully you enjoy them as well!
I have never heard of Parvana or Once --- Hunger Games has been everywhere LOL. I will take a look for the two others. Thank you for the recommendations.
I hadn't heard of any of these titles yet, but now I must read most if not all of them. My top reads so far include Dune (a re-read), Unbecoming by Jenny somebody, a couple Neil Gaiman works, just to name a few. This year has been something of blur!
As always I haven't read any of these because I'm a slow poke but never fear, they are all on my TBR so don't be surprised if in a few years I say "hey, Russell, remember that book you recommended years ago..." 😉
a few of my top ten would be Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat by gwen cooper Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption Stevenson, Bryan Tin Man Winman, Sarah The Braindead Megaphone Saunders, George The Crimson Petal and the White Faber, Michel the only one recently published is the tin man...and no i haven't read any of yours but want to..especially the magda szabo
My favs so far are: The Taster by V.S Alexander The Good Son by You-Jeong Jeong The Wife, the Maid and the Mistress by Ariel Lawdon The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah Tangerine by Christine Mangan All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood ( this one makes you really think. I feel would be great for the book club)
I'm going through a phase at the moment where my TBR is at a ridiculous length, so I'm trying not to add any books to it unless they sound like something I would really really like. I added every single one of these! I'm yet to read any LGBTQ+ literature that I can identify with so I'm definitely intrigued to see if these will be different!
Days Out (The Funboy3) a catalogue of ridiculous yarns...available on Amazon. A very funny offering of British Humour. 4 guys on days out visiting Pubs, Bars and various Nosh Houses. Lots of stupid banter and questionable historical facts? This could be a TV series at some stage?
so... im not saying this is a bad thing.... but is it just me, or is the market FLOODED with books that have female protagonists? Like, I dont see a whole lot of MALE perspective now a days... or MALE protagonist. Why? its getting a little old. I want a mixture. Not just 1 choice. ya kno?
I'm so glad that you enjoyed I Kill Giants! Great list of books, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a couple of them when I go bring in a bunch of books soon!
I did. I need to watch the film and see what they did with it.

Well let me know if you need more graphic novel suggestions. I have ton that are amazing.
Thanks for recommending Red Clocks. I just read it and I finished in in just a few days. Wow, what a book! If I could find more books like that, I'd never stop reading...
Oh I am so glad you liked it. I still think about it and it was the third book I read this year! So good

Such great recommendations! I can't wait to read Girls Burn Brighter, Red Clocks and So Lucky.
Loved Home Fire. Did not get on with This Will Be My Undoing. Must read Red Clocks ASAP! Great list!
Red Clocks your top pick for the year?! Yes, I must read it then. And, how prescient is this subject matter with the possibility of Roe being overturned by the Supremes so topical now. Nice job!
It is so amazing Columbus - I tell you. And horrifyingly relevant.
I have not read any of these, but as usual I've added them to my TBR. I was hoping to see The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne which is my fav so far this year. Great video.

Toddie says Hi back!!! Let me know if you pick Boyne's book back up.
New subscriber here 🙋🏻♀️ Awesome book list! I’m gonna have to pick a few of these up.

I have never heard of Parvana or Once --- Hunger Games has been everywhere LOL. I will take a look for the two others. Thank you for the recommendations.
No problem! Once is the first book to a series. The author to Once is Morris Glietzman and the Author to Parvana is Deborah Ellis.
Woohoo Cleveland!!! I’m from Cleveland 😊 Everyone and their dog has recommended Home Fire. I really need to get to it soon.
Drink the kool-aid and read Home Fire!
I really liked Red Clocks too! I'll have to check out some of your suggestions!
Please do and tell me all about it.
I hadn't heard of any of these titles yet, but now I must read most if not all of them. My top reads so far include Dune (a re-read), Unbecoming by Jenny somebody, a couple Neil Gaiman works, just to name a few. This year has been something of blur!
I agree - this year has been a crazy blur. I hope you do read most of them - they are so so amazing.
You will LOVE Cleveland! It’s THE best city ever! Can you tell it’s my hometown, lol
You should also try to visit Mac’s Backs bookstore and Appletree Books
I will try - I dont get out of work until 5 and they close at 6 - I will do my best.
As always I haven't read any of these because I'm a slow poke but never fear, they are all on my TBR so don't be surprised if in a few years I say "hey, Russell, remember that book you recommended years ago..." 😉
And I will... I hope I am still doing this in a few years. You can chat with me any time Jo.
a few of my top ten would be
Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat by gwen cooper
Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption Stevenson, Bryan
Tin Man Winman, Sarah
The Braindead Megaphone Saunders, George
The Crimson Petal and the White Faber, Michel
the only one recently published is the tin man...and no i haven't read any of yours but want to..especially the magda szabo
Now I have 2 lists to choose from since I haven't read any of your top books or Russell's
lol....ah the riches!
I think you would adore the Magda Szabo - she is an amazing writer.
she's on the radar thanks to you!
My favs so far are:
The Taster by V.S Alexander
The Good Son by You-Jeong Jeong
The Wife, the Maid and the Mistress by Ariel Lawdon
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Tangerine by Christine Mangan
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood ( this one makes you really think. I feel would be great for the book club)
I own the Hannah and the Mangan. I have not heard of the Greenwood. I will check it out.
I hope one of them makes it on your top 10 list as well.
While you’re in Cleveland you HAVE to visit Loganberry Books! It’s a phenomenal bookstore, you won’t regret it 😁
Rachel Rae' thank you !! You’re the first bookstore recommendation!! Depending on distance ... consider it done.
I did a book shopping vlog video there if you want a free sample lol. But the address and info is in the description box of the video.
I went and it was amazing! I loved loved loved it. And spent so much money.
Ah! It’s the best! I’m so happy you loved it. That huge back room is my favorite. If I lived in Cleveland I’d be in there all the time.
Must. Read. These. Soon.
Brand new book, brand new scify author: "A Glimpse Beyond The Aether" What happens when we die? You'll know for sure.
Girls burn brighter is haunting.
