    Heavens!, You have opening credits :). I just dropped by to revisit your channel after a year-long sojourn in and out of rehab for meth addiction. Goodness so many changes in the book tube space in the course of a year.

    Oh wow that's a list. 8 to add to the TBR! Also may I just say I love your descriptions - slim, gut-punch of a novel. Gotta get it ! Sounds like Woodson's book would make a good book club discussion

      All Woodson's books would be great for book clubs. And she is just an amazing and lovely person too. She is a personal hero of mine.

    You popped up as a recommended booktube video. I dont really read these types of books that you are discussing. That being said you make all of them sounds so amazing I have added over half of them to my TBR. Thank you for this video!

    Okay, you've finally convinced me on The Nickel Boys. I've heard a lot about it, but now it is going on my tbr. Thank you for getting me excited about The Man Who Saw Everything as well - I've had that sat on my shelves for a little while now. My favourites of 2019 included Normal People, Jessie Burton's The Confession, and a fantasy novel called City of Brass by S A Charkaborty (a brilliant surprise!)✨

      Well my job is done. The Nickel Boys is amazing. I loved Normal People so much! It is one of my top 5 books of all time.

    So excited to see this today. I rely on you for my next book shopping spree!! So glad The Nickel Boys made your list. It was on mine too along with How We Fight For Our Lives. I actually did listen to Saeed Jones read it and it was such a wonderful experience; just amazing. OMG!!! I can't wait to get The Revisioners. I was sooo hoping Oprah would have picked it for her book club after The Water Dancer but no such luck. Anyhoo, will definitely be getting this asap. GOOD JOB RUSSELL!

    I love that authors' dogs get special shout outs! 😃🐶
    Great group of books -some of which I still really need to get to reading. You give a great summary of Evaristo's novel and I agree Whitehead's novel should have won awards but great to see so many people have read it. I just read Machado's memoir which was only published in the UK a week ago - I especially loved the choose your own adventure section! I've read Jones' poetry so keen to read his memoir but it hasn't been published here. And I hope to read Woodson's novel very soon. Ogawa's novel came very close to making my top 10 list.
    Thanks for discussing all these in such a passionate way - it was worth the wait!

      I am such a dog guy LOL. I hope you can get your hands on Jones' book soon. I think it will really speak to you. So powerful. Woodson is rising as one of my favorite writers ever. Ogawa is one of my favorite writers. I am off to watch your video soon - I am so behind!

    Good list. I really loved Levy's use of language in Swimming Home and Hot Milk, so I'll definitely read The Man Who Saw Everything.
    And I really was haunted by Hotel Iris so I will pick up The Memory Police....it kind of sounds like a splice of Orwell's 1984 and Bradbury's Farenheit 451.
    Thanks, I'm getting excited 😍

      OMG... Hotel Iris was amazing. She is so diverse in her writing style. Loved The Memory Police so much. Levy is a master. She will be around for ages, I am sure.

    Well, Colson Whitehead did win the Kirkus Prize and the $50,000 that goes with it. That is not to shabby, I think 🤔

    • @InkandPaperBlog
      @InkandPaperBlog  5 лет назад +1

      That is true. It is unfortunate that the Kirkus is not a prize we talk about as much. But I think it deserves so many awards. LOL

    • @olafkeith9186
      @olafkeith9186 5 лет назад

      Since he won so much acclaim with his previous book, judges are probably reluctant to pile on the prizes again 😉 it is rare that a writer coming off one masterpiece can so soon produce another.
