Put so many books on my wishlist from your last few videos! You make each book sound amazing. Love your videos, T-shirt’s and cats(when they let us see them!)
When I saw the title of this video, I knew in my heart that their eyes were watching God would be on your list. I just read it a few months ago and when I finished it I didn’t want to take my fingers up the book because I didn’t want to lose it. It’s the most beautiful book I’ve ever read
I have that shirt! I used to work for Litsy when OoP owned it. Great job perk was our “uniform.” 😂 great idea for a video! I love Hurston and David Mitchell too. I can’t stop thinking about their work too. 💕
Glad to hear you are no longer in a reading slump. I am currently in one myself but I am not sure why because the book I am reading is phenomenal...?! Such an odd experience for me to be truly loving a book so much that brings me great joy while reading but if I set it down I cannot convince myself to pick back up
So glad to see you recommend A Coin in Nine Hands! You should also totally check out The Abyss, it's my favourite book by Marguerite Yourcenar that I have read so far!
I just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and you were right; Eleanor will long live in my mind and heart, just like Jude from A Little Life. This book was so smart, funny, relatable, sad, happy, a joy to read, and did not contain even a hint of pretentiousness. Such a beautiful treasure. Thank you for the great recommendation!
Hey Russell! Loved this video, got so many new titles from it, I really enjoyed how you mentioned exactly why you would recommend each book, it made me think about my own favorites and why exactly I love them!
I had never heard of A coin in nine hands but it's fascinating the way in which it's told! I'll have to check it out some day, thank you! It reminds me a little of Anatomy of a soldier, even though I still have to read that one, too :)
Adding some of these to my "Buy Now" cart. A Coin In Nine Hands sounds enthralling. I read that Harold Bloom last year and LOVED how he writes about literature! Found his Toni Morrison discussion fascinating as well and I made a video that was just an ode to his book.
So many amazing recommendations for me to add to my TBR !! Particularly loved The Big Bang reference especially how perfectly it's placed with Eleanor.❤️❤️ (I love that book!!)
I was going to buy that exact NYRB edition of The Door last week and I talked myself about the purchase but now you've convinced me to go back an get it.
Loved the Red Violin, one of my favourite movies about music. As for books that I can't get out of my the two that come to mind are 'Mister Pip' and 'The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.' I read the first one in one night and the second I listened to as an audiobook, which I would recommend as the author does the reading for it.
I totally agree with their eyes were watching god and a constellation of vital phenomena. I would add a gentleman in Moscow and Lincoln in the Bardo to my list of books that I can’t stop thinking about. Thank you for a great video.
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena sounds so great! I haven't heard of that one before some how! David Mitchell is an author i've been meaning to read for such a long time! and Cloud Atlas sounds terrific.
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena is one of my favorite books of all time. I actually should re-read it as it's been a while since I first read it! Also, I read Fever Dream a few months ago and I agree, I could not get that book out of my head for the longest time.
Their Eyes Were Watching God is one of my favorites! I also really loved Cane River. I put those two together in my mind, they both must be Oprah book club books. 😊
Cloud atlas is definitely a unique read and I just reread Their Eyes were Watching God two weeks ago and I’d forgotten how well written and heartbreaking it was. I would say The Vegetarian and The Bone People are two books that are hard to forget and both brilliant even though distressing in large parts, perhaps that’s what makes them so memorable, I don’t think I remember as many happy light books.
I can't stop thinking about "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed. Read at least one year ago but I think about it every single day. It gave me a lot of thoughts. Btw, I've checked: Harold Bloom is still alive! Born in 1930.
Not trying to be funny -- given the title of your video -- but I had forgotten about _Paris Trout_. That is a powerful book. YEEEESSSSS!!! _Song of Solomon_ is my favorite Toni Morrison. Have you read _The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet_ ?
Right! More people need to read Paris Trout! I think it is under appreciated. Song of Solomon perfect! I have read it! It is actually my favorite Mitchell - but Cloud Atlas pops in my head more.
Before, Guy was an Imaginary Friend. Then, he was promoted to be a Coincidence Maker. He followed a course, and now he receives assignments, like bring 2 people together, and he has to arrange that through coincidences. He's responsible for smaller things, but there are higher level coincidence makers, responsible for the fate of the world, resolving wars, or starting one, through coincidences. When one day Guy receives an assignment of the highest level, everything changes. Throughout the story are pages of the handbook of the Coincidence Makers course, with rules and examples. Sorry, can't explain it really well, but I really loved it! Somehow makes me think it's for the greater good when I spill a drink all over me lol
I agree with you "Their Eyes Were Watching God" . You have to listen to the audiobook narrated by Ruby Dee - She does an amazing job - I listened to it more than once! I would also recommend "Waking Lions" by Ayelet Guder Goshen, translated by Sondra Silverston.. you will think about this book a long time after reading.
Books that are unforgettable to me Ordinary People ( Judith Guest) The Tinderbox The Minitaurist The Storied Life of AJ Fickery The Spring of Kasper Meier A Town Like Alice The Hearts Invisible Furies The Patrick Melrose novels 2 stories from Dubliners ( A Painful Case & The Dead) The Ballad of Lucy Gault by William Trevor
I am a massive reader and fan of Bloom. But I thought "How to read and why" was poor - it should be called "What to read". I was looking for something new and with deeper insights. This seems to be for those who are not really familiar with Bloom's thinking.
It’s great that you mentioned Harold Bloom. His reading was capacious. He was brilliant and loved great books. They meant so much to him. Like a great movie critic, he puts you in touch with books worth reading by traditional standards and by the test of time, as we don’t have time enough to sift thru all that’s out there.
Put so many books on my wishlist from your last few videos! You make each book sound amazing. Love your videos, T-shirt’s and cats(when they let us see them!)
Awe thank you so much. I will try to get the cats in more. they dont like the camera as much as the dogs. LOL
When I saw the title of this video, I knew in my heart that their eyes were watching God would be on your list. I just read it a few months ago and when I finished it I didn’t want to take my fingers up the book because I didn’t want to lose it. It’s the most beautiful book I’ve ever read

+Kendra Winchester you should make a video of this idea, too!
Twinsies! So cool. Mitchell is one of my favorite writer consistently. Hurston is part of the apex of my reading life. I am so glad we are friends.
Russell, once again you have given me so many books to add to my TBR. Your reviews are so impassioned and sincere and compelling. Thanks so much.
And I am so inspired by your quilts! I am in awe of your talent! Thank you so much for watching Nicole.
Glad to hear you are no longer in a reading slump. I am currently in one myself but I am not sure why because the book I am reading is phenomenal...?! This probably comes across weird or off topic but you seem like such a kind person, it's a pleasure to watch your videos.
Awe thank you ... I try -- but I have a snarky side LOl Just being honest. Thank you so much for watching.
So glad to see you recommend A Coin in Nine Hands! You should also totally check out The Abyss, it's my favourite book by Marguerite Yourcenar that I have read so far!
I am on the hunt for more books by here. I cannot believe that I have not read more.
I just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and you were right; Eleanor will long live in my mind and heart, just like Jude from A Little Life. Cloud Atlas and Eleanor Oliphant are two of my favorite books! Looks like I have 9 others being added to my TBR..
I had never heard of A coin in nine hands but it's fascinating the way in which it's told! I'll have to check it out some day, thank you! It reminds me a little of Anatomy of a soldier, even though I still have to read that one, too :)
What a great video!! Many of these nooks are new to me. I’m excited to add them to my list!
I just recently discovered your videos and LOVE THEM. I need that shirt and now I have more books to add to my TBR :)
Awe thank you so much. That is the best thing I have heard today!
Adding some of these to my "Buy Now" cart. A Coin In Nine Hands sounds enthralling. I read that Harold Bloom last year and LOVED how he writes about literature! Found his Toni Morrison discussion fascinating as well and I made a video that was just an ode to his book.
I clearly need to read more Yocenars Books. I am on the hunt. I agree about Bloom.
So many amazing recommendations for me to add to my TBR !! Particularly loved The Big Bang reference especially how perfectly it's placed with Eleanor.❤️❤️ (I love that book!!)
Thank you . I love that book too! She is such a character.
Great recs Russell- co-sign all and you brought Florence in Ecstasy to me and I am forever grateful for the power of booktube
Oh, I am so glad Jessie's book is so amazing. I hear she is currently writing a new book - and I cannot wait!
I was going to buy that exact NYRB edition of The Door last week and I talked myself about the purchase but now you've convinced me to go back an get it.
Oh you have too! It is amazing.
Cloud Atlas and A Constellation of Vital Phenomena are two of my favourite books ever. I can’t stop thinking about them either 😍
You have great taste lol ;-)
I have added all these books to my Goodreads TBR 💖💖
Loved the Red Violin, one of my favourite movies about music. As for books that I can't get out of my the two that come to mind are 'Mister Pip' and 'The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.' Oh I give Alexie's books to the young readers in my life all the time. It is a great choice.
YOU NEED TO READ IT RIGHT NOW!! It is a reading changer. And then read Cloud Atlas! So, good. So good.
Never Let Me Go
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena is one of my favorite books of all time. I actually should re-read it as it's been a while since I first read it! Also, I read Fever Dream a few months ago and I agree, I could not get that book out of my head for the longest time.
Oh, I am so glad you like Marra! I cannot wait for his next book to come out!
Oh my, the cover art of Constellation 😻
I also need to buy several of those shirts for my husband and girlfriends!

I love The Vegetarian. I am going to read The Bone People before the year is out. Chris always talks about it too. I need to just do it.
Cloud Atlas is one of my favorite books of all time, I can't get it out of my head either, I really want to reread it! :)
So good . I think about it so often.
@@InkandPaperBlog Me too!

Have you read Tiny Beautiful Things by Strayed! It is amazing and will make you cry your eyes out so much. So good

I have read it! It is actually my favorite Mitchell - but Cloud Atlas pops in my head more.
I'm currently listening to "The Coincidence Makers" by Yoav Blum. Haven't finished it yet, but I keep thinking about it.
I have not heard of it! Tell me more!

RUBY DEE DOES THE AUDIO!! That sounds amazing. Thank you so much for telling me about it. I will look for Waking Lions.
my favorite book last year was, The People upstairs. A good read.
By Lisa Jewell? I started that ages ago, and liked it. Why didn't I finish that. Need to get back to it.
I REALLY need to give Cloud Atlas a try! I loved the movie, and i know i'll like the book but goddamn does it seem daunting to read haha.
Love the shirt 💕
You should do a video on your other favorite American classics along with Their Eyes were Watching God.
Oh good idea - I certainly will start to put something together.
I second "Cloud Atlas," and David Mitchell's other books!
Oh Cloud Atlas. So good. I still remember my first read of it and loving it.
I binged The Door today. I feel changed.
So good right. All of her books are amazing.

I can see that .. it is a good place to enter him - and we all need to start somewhere.
Bloom is deceased. Your video is excellent.
I am aware. And thank you.

Harold Bloom passed away last year
I heard. Way after I made this video.
