What Kendall Jenner said is technically true to a certain extent, but as someone who chooses to share her private life in exchange for fame and fortune (and that's literally how she makes her money), she really has no basis to complain about people critiquing her recommendations.
She never complained though. She said "what i like is personal and nobody's business" which i took as meaning she doesn't feel like justifying or validating her taste which is a fair thing to say. I don't understand the narrative people are spinning about her being super upset or playing the victim. She literally just said "this is for me Not you" and people are acting like she tweeted at Jack a personal FU or something
Everyone has a right to privacy but you've no right to complain when people interact with content you willingly post publicly, unless it's outright harassment or bullying or something and this really was just good-natured criticism.
@@asterismos5451 she didn't complain though. She just said her taste in reading is private to her. If we can criticize her taste she can also join in by saying "yeah well what i read is for me not you"
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kendall Jenner publicly post her "to read" list on her insta after people got interested in the photos she had that had books in them? I can understand the discomfort if other people made a "Kendall read these books" list on their own and critiqued them, but when you post a list of books you recommend for to share publicly to interested people on instagram it comes off as such a weird thing to complain about. You put the list expecting people will read the books and assumingly knowing they will have differing opinions because everyone has different tastes. The video wasn't critiquing her taste in books, it was simply critiquing the books themselves, which is bound to happen. Would she be saying the same thing if Jack loved every single book?
That's exactly what I thought!. And yeah, Jack didn't like the books themselves because he has different tastes! Books, like any piece of art, are so subjective, so I really don't get her complaining about it. If someone, in this case a stranger on the internet, would dislike or even hate one of my favorites, I wouldn't take it as an insult aimed at me because they don't know me at all. They're talking about the media, not me.
To be the devil's advocate here, the video title for the Kendall Jenner book recommendations is "I read every book Kendall Jenner has recommended on Instagram and her taste is... questionable," which is a clear judgment on her personal taste. I'm not saying Jack was wrong not to like the books or make these kinds of videos (I, like many others, love them), but Kendall is not entirely wrong in her remark either.
Not Kendall calling out a RUclipsr whose channel literally consists of book reviews to "mind his business" when she's the one who put out those books in display. I bet she wouldn't say "mind your business" if only Jack praised her taste in literature.
kendall jenner seemed like she just can't comprehend jack not having the exact same views of the books as her. these videos are genuinely awesome, and jack is the absolute least malicious guy on the internet. if she doesn't wanna be part of the celebrity book club, then screw her! great video as always!
Kendall: Reading is personal to me. That's nobody's business. Y'all: OMG SHES SOOOO UPSET SOMEONE DOESNT LIKE EXACTLY WHAT SHE LIKES WTFFFF SHES FAMOUS THOUGH SHE CANT HAVE FEELINGS!!!!
If she wanted her reading taste to stay private, she wouldn't have posted it on the internet. She's just salty someone didn't like the books she recommended despite Jack being incredibly honest and fair in his reviews. I don't feel bad for her at all. She's famous across the world and makes millions and thinks complaining about an educational youtuber who I doubt makes anywhere near as much as her is acceptable.

@@thebasedgodmax1163 she literally just said that what she reads is personal to her and nobody's business. How is that accusing Jack of being a bad person for criticizing her taste?
the best way i can describe kendall jenner’s taste in literature is “shallow”. i’ve read the books because i was curious to see for myself what the books were and yeah… shallow. also, she got upset about jack’s review when it genuinely looks like she displayed the books like that just for the interview? did she not think people would try to read the books she did? or is she upset we didn’t think they were as profound as she did?
Andrew Garfield is such an intriguing man, I love watching his interviews. Would love to listen to him talk hours about books. Imagine him coming to Jack's channel to discuss books, it would be *perfect*.
I feel like Andrew Garfield could himself write a book someday, the way he describes the most mundane things, the way he genuinely appreciates art and the entire process of it, transcending basic actions to an extraordinary level ! Fell in love with him a little more after this video ❣
Sometimes I imagine being a celebrity, running around with books very visible/posting them etc and to hope that they might get their way into one of his videos
Same, I know it's one of the more hated "classics" and I don't think it's my favorite piece of classic literature or anything, but I really do love it. Holden watching Phoebe on the carousel so happy he's almost to the point of crying and Holden talking about Allie are always moments that get me
@@misabmalbari4575 What frog says is correct, but what might also be useful to know is: - it's almost exclusively enjoyed in the UK or its former colonies - most importantly, most people think it's absolutely vile except for a decent group within those places (UK or former colonies). And because of that, and because it's a shared childhood memory for a lot of those people, it's become sort of something British people flock to to either revel in their Britishness or compare anything polarising to.

Yeah, thats what I do when I read hot romance with those awful "naked man" covers 🤣
Nah, she makes millions and millions and millions from being a celeb, moaning about a side effect of that elicits very little sympathy from me. Ppl can critique a public figure & the stuff she openly recommends or visibly carries, if she really wanted it private you wouldnt know 😭😭 keep it up Jack!!!!
And really, is seeing someone reading a book or hearing someone talk about a book, reading that same book, and then saying "I didn't like that book" a personal attack? Or an invasion of privacy? Imagine your friend told you about a book they were reading, you read it too to see what it's like but didn't like it, and that friend was like "ummm don't read the books I like and critique them!!! that's a private personal thing for me!!!!!!" like wtf she doesn't own the rights to who can and can't read books or comment on them.
@May did you just say someone not liking the books you read could be traumatizing. "She also didn't ask anyone to follow her on social media. we just do it." please she would cry if everyone unfollowed her today. There's plently of celebrities that simply don't have social media or use it but under an anon account. If she didn't want to be in the public eye, she could remove herself right now
It's crazy to think about this with any other profession. Like, imagine following a chef home and demanding that he cook you another meal because that's his job and you've paid to go to their restaurant so that means that they should expect to cook at a moment's notice. A celebrity being an entertainer or model doesn't mean they can't read a book in a park without any privacy. Yes it's a side effect, and i don't necessarily pity her, but to act like we're entitled to stalk her when she leaves her house and she has no right to complain at all is just a weird mentality to have and to try and justify. Not that you specifically are doing the stalking or are advocating for it, but saying someone can't complain about not having privacy because of their occupation is weird to me.
I agree. There are some “celebs” do live private lives look at Daniel Radcliffe or Cillian Murphy . She makes money from being in the public a lot of money too. That’s the point of being a “celeb celeb” she doesn’t have any other job. It’s not like she is an actor or presenter or musician . She is barely a model
If kendall jenner really wanted her reading habits to be private she wouldn't share the books she read. It's not like you broke into her house to see what books are on her shelves...
The smile he has on his face while talking about books is so precious....it makes me think that people are really passionate about something in today's world rather than money
@@tothemoonbase there’s nothing stupid about wanting privacy but if she wanted “privacy” then she shouldn’t post things online. obviously everyone has different taste in books therefore if she didn’t want people to comment on her interest she shouldn’t have made them known.

I think I've read his poetry collection four times now and it never gets old. Also: Ocean Vuong shared the article you mentioned on his Instagram story awhile back and said he'd gladly be Andrew's wife ahaha it's the best and most unexpected internet moment
I'm so glad I found this today. I listened to the On Being interview with Ocean Vuong and also cried my eyes out. Didn't expect to cry at work in a tax office today, but I'll take it over numb disbelief. ❤️
Shows lack of maturity from Kendall because different people do have different opinions about books. Jack giving his view on her choices is completely fine as there are thousands of other people sharing their views on the same books?? Also, she shouldn’t be carrying around her books in public or posting about them if she wants it to be a ‘personal experience’, given that she’s a public figure. Your POV on Catcher In The Rye was perfection. Personally I loved the book. Also, I love your Celebrity Reads series so don’t fret too much over Miss Jenner.
Night Sky With Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong is an absolutely mesmerising poetry experience you’ll never regret. His poetry reminds me of TS Eliot’s…if TS Eliot had a deep sense of traumatic legacy and a heartbreaking yearning to be understood. Ocean’s poetry is equally complex, memorable and lyrical, but it also carries with it the weight of inter-generational pain. ‘You move through me like rain heard in another country. Yes, you are a country. Someday, they will find it while searching for lost ships…’ Like who writes like that? I once saw this twitter post that said Ocean Vuong is the TS Eliot for those who consider Kim Namjoon to be there their Mary Oliver. I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. Can’t wait for his next poetry collection Love is a Mother. It’s coming in April!
Kendall Jenner only wanted to stir the pot and she should be the one to keep her nose out of this channel. Jack is not bothering anyone by sharing his opinion about the books that celebrities read, in fact this section brings us closer to the artists' work such as the Taylor Swift videos. It gives depth to what celebrities have in mind, catches their attention and is their philosophy in life. Also Jack is being honest and is okay if he doesn't like the same books as her. Plus, if Kendall is super concerned maybe we should all just keep our hands away even from writing negative reviews about the books she likes (although we didn't) even from Goodreads because poor her, her taste in books is being questioned by a bunch of random strangers on the internet (/sarcasm).

IMO there are so many ligitimate things we could criticize the Kardashian/Jenners for. Like their exploitation of cheep labor, cultural appropriation, and stealing from smaller creators. I feel like making every single thing they say and do a huge deal diminishes the fair criticism they get on the important stuff. If me making a meme makes thousands of people hate and say horrible things about me why would I listen when something supposedly actually bad happens? They both elicit the exact same response. I’m so glad you got to read Mary Oliver!!! I seriously adore and worship her. Woman is an absolute genius and definitely one of the best of humanity. The wonderful thing is that she’s published so many works that you can just binge them all if you’re in the mood for it. My favorites by her are American Primitive (for which she won the Pulitzer Prize), Dream Work (kind of a sister/sequel to American primitive), Evidence, and Devotions (her last published book before she died)
You should totally try reading south asian books. Their literature is very colourful and lyrical. It’d be really nice to see your interpretation of it.
And this is the main reason why i fell in love with Andrew Garfield. I've always found it endearing and in awe how he expresses himself so eloquently in his interviews. So when I found out last month that he also read books (his interview with Believer where he mentioned On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous. That whole interview is really good btw!), I can see his taste in books reflects that. And then there goes my dilemma if I'll ever gonna find someone like him 🥲
I’m sorry but Kendall Jenner’s reaction is so ridiculous. I understand the boundary element but you can’t have your cake and eat it. If everyone loved what she was reading would she reacted the same way? No, I don’t think so. When she wears a certain brand and other people see it and buy it or when people make videos about how to dress like her, she doesn’t start “it’s none of your business what I wear” does she? It’s so off putting when people get so worked up over other people’s disagreements.
You make a great argument with the fashion point, I didn't think of it that way, The way I took her comment was, "What I enjoy reading is personal to me, and I don't do it for anybody else." Kendall Jenner: judging the books I like is an invasion to my privacy
also her: literally reccommended those books to her 200M+ followers on instagram
Invasion of her privacy but she posted her book recommendation online 🤣
Not gonna mince my words, like she did the Pepsi commercial… she’s dense
A fair point!
Well said
That's exactly what I thought!.
Kendall Jenner: “Mind your damn business, Jack Edwards.”
Jack Edwards: “I think it’s a YOU problem.”

Yaaaas I have been waiting for your next “reading celebrities recommendations” video! They are so much fun, and Andrew was such a great choice
Andrew's choice in books is actually inspiring!
the best way i can describe kendall jenner’s taste in literature is “shallow”. i’ve read the books because i was curious to see for myself what the books were and yeah… shallow. also, she got upset about jack’s review when it genuinely looks like she displayed the books like that just for the interview? did she not think people would try to read the books she did? or is she upset we didn’t think they were as profound as she did?
moreover, did she even read those books herself?
im sorry i disliked it was an accident 0_0

Calling The Catcher in the Rye "the marmite of books" is just so accurate. I fall into the unpopular opinion of loving it.
i didn't realize that it wasn't well-loved... interesting
Same, I know it's one of the more hated "classics" and I don't think it's my favorite piece of classic literature or anything, but I really do love it. Holden watching Phoebe on the carousel so happy he's almost to the point of crying and Holden talking about Allie are always moments that get me
Can anyone explain to me what marmite is ?😭
@@misabmalbari4575 its a savoury food spread. People tend to put it on toast.
@@misabmalbari4575 What frog says is correct, but what might also be useful to know is:
- it's almost exclusively enjoyed in the UK or its former colonies
- most importantly, most people think it's absolutely vile except for a decent group within those places (UK or former colonies). And because of that, and because it's a shared childhood memory for a lot of those people, it's become sort of something British people flock to to either revel in their Britishness or compare anything polarising to.

I LOVE Andrew Garfield and your celebrity book club is one of my favorite series on your channel 💜💜 thanks for the book recommendations ☺️
She SHARED her reading choices, but then retroactively declared them private?
Alright, that's a new one.
Well posting sth online still doesn’t make it anyone’s business but hay let our boy earn his living 😭😭

Shows lack of maturity from Kendall because different people do have different opinions about books. Jack giving his view on her choices is completely fine as there are thousands of other people sharing their views on the same books?? Night Sky With Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong is an absolutely mesmerising poetry experience you’ll never regret. His poetry reminds me of TS Eliot’s…if TS Eliot had a deep sense of traumatic legacy and a heartbreaking yearning to be understood. Ocean’s poetry is equally complex, memorable and lyrical, but it also carries with it the weight of inter-generational pain.
‘You move through me like rain heard in another country. Yes, you are a country. Someday, they will find it while searching for lost ships…’
Like who writes like that?
She literally just said "what i like to read is personal to me and isnt for anybody else" and you wrote a think piece on how she has no right to be upset even though she never said she was. Weird
@@janiedoie You know what's really weird? All the comments you're posting trying to excuse her.
Not only are you replying to me but also to a lot of viewers who don't agree with you. If Kendall thinks that her book choices are "personal to her" then she should have never made them public in the first place. She could have kept a personal reading journal instead.
@@RebeDrawsStuff I'm allowed to express my opinions to you and everybody else. I just find it strange that people are twisting one small sentence she said about her taste being personal to her and not for anybody but her to make it seem like she's personally attacking everybody who doesn't like the books she likes. I just think you misunderstood what she said and hold a different point of view than you do, and ironically, you're doing exactly what you accuse Kendall of doing. Kinda funny
@@janiedoie the only problem we've got with kendall is the way she doesn't want to be judged for something she put up on social media for millions of people to see and then expected those millions of people to mind their own business when that clearly wouldn't happen when you're sharing your life with so many people...
@@idknanmolla1710 that's fair, but people are acting like she's done a horrendous horrible thing. Sure, she was being defensive. If I were to post publically my favorite books and someone made a post saying "____'s taste is bad" I can't say I wouldn't be just as upset by it, even though I invited criticism for posting it publicly. I think that's normal. And Jack laughed about it in the beginning and end of his video, so I don't think he's offended. So I just find it strange that so many people are super fixated on this one thing she said as if she's a monster for it.
JACK WE’RE SO CLOSE TO 1 MILLION OMG
And then there goes my dilemma if I'll ever gonna find someone like him 🥲
You elevate my reading experience. I enjoy these vlogs as much as I enjoy reading the books you critic.
0:52 *in Maddie's voice* "wait, is this f*cking play about us?"
You make a great argument with the fashion point, I didn't think of it that way, The way I took her comment was, "What I enjoy reading is personal to me, and I don't do it for anybody else." Which I personally think is fair. If someone said they didn't like something I did I would probably say something in the same vein. Yeah, it may come from a defensive place, because if they did like her books she wouldn't have said anything, but I don't think being defensive is always bad. She wasn't attacking him said she was mad that he didn't like what she liked, she just said that it doesn't matter to her if he likes her favorite books or not.

@@user-hk8oo9ve1z I agree that her response was defensive, I just find it strange that so many people in the comments in this video are actively angry with her and saying she's a horrible person and attacking Jack for being a bit defensive. Jack himself was laughing about it in the beginning and end of the video, so I don't get why people are so heated with her for being defensive. Someone else said, which I agree with, if I were to post my favorite books publically and someone Dm'd me or made a post about how much they disliked my favorite books, I, like I think most people, would be salty about it. Sure it's fair that he expresses his opinions, but it's also fair she defends herself.
@@janiedoie i think the bit people are getting well i wouldnt go as far to get mad about it but the part thats funny is her saying its none of their business? bc ? she did post about them like if you make it their business theyre going to comment on it - to say well reading is personal to me so i dont mind if people dont like my recommendations is one thing to then follow up with its none of their business is the hypocritical part
@@paisleigh1989 yeah what she said didn't make too much sense, it was a defensive reflex for sure, i just don't think that makes her a horrible stupid person
If you like Rilke you have to read The Panther. Is so short but so ingenious. Rilke combines the structure of the poet with the story he wants to portray and I so so hope it's the same with the englisch translation because the german version was a blessing
I love these celebrity book club videos so much!!! Please never stop doing them lol! And some of you may have heard but we actually have an online community with over 1,100 of us! We have a 📚BOOK CLUB📚 and are holding our first BYOB call tomorrow inspired by the IG lives! 📚😎 (details in replies)
I loved that Rilke came up!
I'm a highschool student in Germany and my friends and I all enjoy reading a lot. Because we are big believers in reading and listening to media in the language it was created in, we often find ourselves reading englisch literature ( often influenced by your recommendations :-) )
Saddly, I'm the one out of the group who is the slowest in Englisch. I generally have a hard time with classics, even though I can read the most enormous fantasy tome in one day.
But, (!) I love poetry!
( Especially the classics)
So to see you recommend something I could actually read in german and enjoy was great!
I'm not a big fan of translating poetry because I believe you can not replicate it in another language but it made me happy that you liked it!
I just also wanted to say a huge thank you for being so passionate and descriptive about books you love, that you always make me wanna read them even if I know it'll take me a little bit longer..
You have to read books written by authors from Quebec! I’d genuinely be interested in hearing what you think of them and our literature! Keep up the good work, your videos are amazing💛
“Andy G” and “Peter Park-it” are some of the most majestic things I’ve ever heard
I've read Catcher in the Rye more times than any other book. I loved it at 14 and I love it at 55. It's my all time favorite.
Jack, please continue your series, no matter what. I get to know about good books to read (and those not to read) from them. For me personally, it has nothing to do with a celebrity’s reading list. A good book is a good book regardless. ✌🏼
Hey jack! Thankyou for the regular uploads, excited to watch this video🥳
also the last book he recommended is in an interview that i think is one of the best interviews i've ever read of a person...the way he describes grief in it whew...
All I heard was Kendall Jenner watched your video 😭😭😭😭
I really like your new transitions of the quote and then closing the book. Gives me Wes Anderson vibes ✨
the euphoria ref at the beginning tho >>
