Thats the best one from the saga in my opinion, and the movie with that soundtrack was amazing (i read that book like 15 years ago so i don't really remember much of it but i do know it was my favorite lol)
I don't know if this is possible but, can you make a video like this about Greta gerwig and Christopher Nolan's favourite books/ book recommendations? I think it would be really interesting.
just to clarify, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike for TV/Streaming/Theatrical contracts! the writer's guild is the one that reached a tentative agreement with their own union, which is completely separate from the actor's union's strike and negotiations. they will, however, go back into negotiations Monday October 2nd! thank you for being supportive of actors and their strike!
Exactly. Writers’ strike is off (although the membership hasn’t yet voted to accept/reject the contract, the last step). Actors (& others covered by SAG-AFTRA) still on strike, but the parties are restarting negotiations n Monday. (It was the companies who previously refused to return to the table.)
About Dune. Princess Irulans epigraphs are from her later writings when Paul „Muad’Dib“ pretty much became a religious figure. As for their function, I always thought that they meant to show how the universe saw Paul and the difference between reality and propaganda. Oftentimes what she writes doesn’t / didn’t quite happen that way and Paul himself is no hero, even though he's being worshipped like a deity. Additionally, like Paul, the reader knows what's gonna happen (in a way) but isn’t able to stop it
Yes exactly! And the story isn’t meant to be suspenseful it’s meant to be “historical”, when you study history you already know what happens (or what the government has decided the story of what happened is) so like knowing the end, that Paul becomes a major figure isn’t a spoiler it’s why you’re studying him at all
@@videodonna5594 Yes. it reminds me a lot of those historical fiction books about real historical characters. You know where it is going. You know Marie Antoinette for example eventually gets het head chopped off, or that Henry VIII ends up with a string of failed marriages where he kills off almost half of them.
I think what they mean is that, traditionally Ireland is painted as a melancholic country and also has a century long history of cultural opression (also The Troubles) which kind of leads to country wide collective trauma which often gets dealt with through stories. I also read Breakfast on Pluto (which is one of his favourite books of all time and a movie he starred in) and The butcher boy by Patrick McCabe, and those are brilliant, highly recommend. I was waiting so bad for Jack to review Cillian's recommendations 😌
Anyone that was interested in grief is the thing with feathers but not quite into it (or did like it), should definitely read lanny by the same author. So good
i can't even focus on the video i just keep staring at the pinguin classics display
Great video! And your library looks great behind you!
obsessed w/ your background/commitment to your craft
Today, as I was wasting time, I realized I hadn't watched any Jack Edwards in a while and how I would be upset missing any of your main channel content. It felt nice to see your post.I really enjoyed watching it as usual.
Love you❤
15:14 This is exactly how I felt reading Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Had to DNF it. (The acronyms were driving me crazy.) So maybe Eclipse will be a pass for me. Otherwise, I am very interested in reading from Cillian’s list of favorites.
Great video idea. Loved the variety of books here too. I was Barbie all the way in the films…but for the books I agree with Oppenheimer!
Stoppp I love small things like these soooo much
I love these videos, hoping to get more book recommendations! :)
15:25 This but about all except Emily Wilson’s translations of Homer’s work LMAO
14:39 For the briefest of moments I thought it was Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer. I want to live in the world where it was Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer
It's interesting how their reading tastes show their characters in a nutshell. I do really love The Hobbit, but still, Cillian's taste is so much more understandable to me. I also read Breakfast on Pluto (which is one of his favourite books of all time and a movie he starred in) and The butcher boy by Patrick McCabe, and those are brilliant, highly recommend. And of course, I first heard about Max Porter because of All of this unreal time, so it was a massive win-win situation.
