Thank you Chris Latta for bringing life to Cobra Commander and Starscream. You made me fall in love with these characters through your banter and vocal execution. Your legacy lives on forever! COBRA! Hsssss
They shoulda made an action comedy crossover with cc n screamer. Like screamer is helping cc to steal cybertronian weapons and technology in exchange for enough energy to usurp Megatron as leader of the decepticons. The thing practically writes itself.
One thing I've always liked about Cobra Commander was how expressive his body language is. They could have cheaped out and had him just stand there (his mouth was covered, anyway, so they had an excuse). But they didn't do that. He's always moving his arms and striking a pose. He has so much personality, which that makes him fun to watch (Chris Latta's performance helps alot, too).
Gotta love Gi Joe the vocabulary was really advanced at the time we were children. Most of us of course were just excited to watch after school I'm 43 years old and this was my elementary school days past times
In the movie, Cobra Commander used the word "pusillanimous" which I've literally never heard anywhere else in entertainment or real life. I learned what the word meant because of that movie. And the word was used properly in context with its definition and as part of a string of "p words" to create aliteration in the sentence. There were some well read people that worked on these cartoons.
Cobra Commander and Dessstro were the gateway drug to get me into collecting GI Joe again. Thossse two have cossst me a sssmall fortune in just a few monthsss!
I like the Dic series when Baroness restored Cobra Commander back into his humanoid form and they got rid of Serpentor. Then Cobra Commander and Destro became good friends.
Garry Chalk voiced the ape in 'Stuck on you' He was also voiced Silver in Ninja Tutles: next mutation. AND he was Primal in Beast Wars. He was type cast as an ape
That is terrible! It sucks that old cartoons are so bad with being responsible when it comes to race with their voice acting, though it shouldn't be too surprising considering all the earliest cartoon characters were based off of minstrel shows. I'm happy that the industry is slowly getting better, even if it's taking a long time.
Just recently check out the original cartoon, and while it did age for me, Cobra Commander is indeed the best of it. While he is typical saturday cartoon villain, he's written with so much sass when he interacts with Cobra generals and he's so fan to watch.

It can be surmised from shown evidence that in the Transformer's Cartoon Universe, G.I. Joe "dealt with" Cobra completely somewhere after the 2nd Miniseries (The Weather Dominator), since Flint was an important military figure, and CC was in his Early 1980's outfit and clearly never got dragged back to Cobra-La and further mutated then turned fully human in _Operation: Dragonfire._ You could also go out on a limb and guess Cobra-La itself was destroyed when Megatron tried to bring Cybertron into Earth's solar system and caused gigantic natural disasters.
@@OneNationUnderPug, The armored one was more when they changed studios and had to bring back Cobra Commander from the snake form after the end of the GI Joe Movie. Though the original style is honestly the best looking, as the armor makes him look more brutish rather than a slippery snake.
2:21 Nobody points how how only less than a handful of times in the cartoon that the twins were referred to in the order of "Tomax" and "Xamot" like they are in pretty much all other Joe media. Most of the time in the cartoon the twins were referred to in the cartoon in the order of "Xamot" and "Tomax" which I believe actually just sounds better to say in that order than "Tomax and Xamot". Apparently the people who did the cartoon had the same opinion.
@Frank Lopez We pay so much attention to Chris Latta in G I Joe & Transformers, it's easy to ignore or forget his other stuff, especially when it's not readily mentioned.
@Frank Lopez Visionaries & Inhumanoids didn't get frequent exposure as G I Joe or Transformers so there is that factor to consider. Also, no internet yet to look back on let alone RUclips. You're right though. The lesser works are important too & open to whoever wants'em, which is good. 😔Who knows what else Chris Latta could do if he could stick around a little longer...or that voice of his anyway. Did you know he also did a stand up comedy act once? It's here on RUclips, worth it.
@Frank Lopez I have that app & have seen said shows there. Most nice of Tubi to help with such. If I had kids of my own, I'd watch that stuff right alongside them.
Did they ever show Cobra Commander's face? I assume he is part reptile given how he talks. Scenes like this make the mystery all the more fascinating 2:10. I know he has more of a backstory in the comics.
In the comics, he was a human former used car salesman. I felt they were setting up something along the lines of Cobra-La from that very scene where CC says it takes a strong stomach to watch him eat - a result of The Spores mutating his face, since apparently, Cobra-La citizens are fairly human looking. Perhaps not Cobra-La itself, but SOMETHING like it, YEARS before they wrote the Movie script.
@@calanon534 reading some interviews from around the time of Arise, Serpentor, Arise- there were heavy hints about what we got with GIJoe the movie. And Buzz Dixon had an idea for an original of Cobra that was scrapped because it didn't fit....because the Cobra-la origion was coming. He later released it as a fan fiction on Amazon but it is discontinued/unavailable before I could get it.
I feel bad for Chris Latta's vocal chords, if he ever had to record Cobra or Starscream's voice on the same day. That guy had to be seriously hydrated or at least drinking throat soothing tea. Wish he could have lived a little longer.
How could you not include the cold slither episode where C.C. told the union official, " The only union they should be concerned with, is the one between their heads and their shoulders."
Destro was probably happy to be rid of Cobra Commander after the events of the movie, but I imagine that he actually missed the guy and their constant bickering. Might explain his complete 180 on Serpentor, who he could never have an actual conversation with that didn't end in shouting or being thrown like a rag doll.
I enjoy Cobra Commander in each incarnation I've experienced him in: - Cartoon (Sunbow&DIC) - Larry Hama's run (Marvel & IDW) - Image comics run to "continue" the Hama run - The two live action movies - The current Energon Universe version While I know there are a few other versions, I'm not as familiar with those as I am the ones I just listed. I have no doubt I'd enjoy the others as well.

I know there's several reasons why, main one is that you couldn't show death in animated shows at the time, but also an in show explanation that he "needed" these people, but Cobra Commander was too forgiving of Destro and the Countess. Mind Bender wasn't as necessary as those 2, which Cobra Commander could/would have found a replacement for him eventually eventually. However, his 2 highest members who betrayed him, well would make more sense to get rid of them. Doesn't matter how he did it, only that he didn't have backstabbers in his ranks at the end of the day. The twin brothers especially, even though they're high ranking CO's, they're not as needed as Destro or Countess. Looking into their backgrounds, not sure how they would be useful as lawyers to any Cobra agent, when they're known to G.I Joe and would effectively be on record as known terrorists.
Cobra Commander, Skeletor, and Shredder would have all won within a quarter of a single season if they just had higher standards in their hiring department.
It's from a later show made in 90s I believe that was released by Dic instead of Sunbow that I think had the same name (?) I haven't watched it in a while.
As much as I love Latta’s voice, the comic version of CC is so much better… a disgruntled used car salesman who started a pyramid scheme, ditched his family, and became a terrorist.
I want to know why Cobra Commander's eyes appear to be brown underneath his hood. He's depicted to have blue skin with cat-like eyes in the movie. Is it part of his hood or is it just a piss poor retcon
The real answer is a piss poor retcon, but I like to think he used makeup and contacts around the visible part of his eyes in the hood to appear more human.
I don't recall it ever being explicitly explained, but I imagine the facemask (having been shown at one point to contain electronic bits and bobs) had some kind of early Head's Up Display sort of thing so all of his eyes (he had 6-8 as a result of his Spore exposure) could process information at once, and the cloth hood was for comfort, so his other eyes could rest/be blinded. I think the facemask probably caused serious eyestrain after a while.. imagine having that all over your face.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11, God=Lord Jesus Christ warns of sexual immoral behavior and immoral sexual acts. Those that keep doing it and don't stop those won't enter heaven after passing away. Those will have fellowship with Him. Those will inherit eternal life from Him. Those will be of His seed and of Abraham's seed. While those that are either unrepentant wrongdoers or disbelievers , those will be judged of their wrongdoings by God=Lord Jesus Christ and then His angels will throw the poor condemned into the lake of fire and brimstone. Which resides down beneath the dark void. It is the second death. And satan and his rebel angels will be enchained and imprisoned in the dark void for a thousand years. After a thousand years have passed , they will be let out shortly to decieve the world again for a brief time. They are going to decieve many people into attacking the Holy city of Israel and then God=Lord Jesus Christ will call out fire from Heaven to consume them all. And then He will judge satan and his rebel angels for their evil rebellion towards Him and then His angels will throw satan and his rebel angels into the lake of fire. Where they will be forever with all of the people that they decieved before. It is the final prophesy. If you didn't know then now you know. I echo what Celeb Doss wrote. The original toy of that new CC suit was that it was a prototype, basically a power-suit. The reason why Cobra didn't field an entire army of those suits was simple: they each cost as much as a jet fighter. As for why he looked & sounded so god awful, part of it has to do with GI Joe: the Movie. After that Sunbow Studios lost the contract for the (GI Joe) animation, they lost it to DIC of all studios (they did Inspector Gadget & a couple of other things). DIC was notorious for 2 things back then; underbidding competitors, & having really subpar animation.
agree the 1987 armor suit was worse looking and made even worse in the 1990 DIC season (I consider DIC a continuation of Sunbow continuity) animation. I wonder why DIC started with the armor suit since Commander in the comics had dropped the armor costume and gone back to pretty much the original suit or close to it. On the voicing I'm not completely sure but I believe Chris Latta did reprise the role credited as Christopher Collins. But he did sound not quite like Sunbow. For that matter Bob Sgt Slaughter Remus and Jerry Houser (who voiced Sci Fi) did sound slightly different in DIC than Sunbow too. Only Morgan Lofting (who apparently was replaced in 1991 DIC Season 2) as Baroness sounded the same as she did in Sunbow and so did Ed Gilbert who voiced Hawk (who was replaced by 1991 DIC season 2)
" Morons morons, I have morons on my payroll" is my favorite from the entire cartoon series.

After that Sunbow Studios lost the contract for the (GI Joe) animation, they lost it to DIC of all studios (they did Inspector Gadget & a couple of other things). DIC was notorious for 2 things back then; underbidding competitors, & having really subpar animation.
@@Harrison11106 The biggest problem is that the quality of writing for the show seriously declined.
agree the 1987 armor suit was worse looking and made even worse in the 1990 DIC season (I consider DIC a continuation of Sunbow continuity) animation.
Cobra Commander sounds like a former orange haired POTUS.
And Biden and Harris sound like Zartan because that's pretty much who they are as well.
Is Trudeau the political stand-in for Serpentor?
Cobra Commander: AKA Adolph Putin
@@brushstroke3733 No, that's Putin. Trudeau's the Headman from the Dic Series.
@@brushstroke3733 No, they're greenshirts.
