@ArcTrooperRod-269 All that is quite true, as Destro is never shown to be killed on screen. It is actually quite likely he is alive, as though the temperature around him in the prison was rising, the tube he was imprisoned in is programmed to keep the same temperature. With the world's deadliest man, Cobra Commander, having just broken out of the prison, the feds and officers would have been all over the place within the following few minutes or so, finding Destro theoretically within the next hour or so. He may very well be revealed to be alive in the next film, should it ever leave production hell. And yes, Channing Tatum's contract was only set for two films, so it was an obvious decision to set up, and then focus on a new main lead with Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock and his inherited team consisting of Snake Eyes, Flint, etc.

The fact that Cobra Commander's men are so casual with him. These guys LOVED having him. It's so rare when a villain actually has henchmen that would serve him faithfully with such RESPECT and mean it.
The most unfortunate part to me is that the design for Cobra commander looked amazing. Really was hoping we’d get a third movie so we could have more scenes with it.
12:41 honestly that was pretty spot on. I get why they didn’t go with the high pitched voice, but I would’ve loved to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt do it for the actual movie.
You know what I find absolutely hilarious? Rise of Cobra: Meet James McCullen. The head of M.A.R.S. industries. *Face* of Cobra and pretend main villain. Cobra Commander has been using him for his resources, money and biding his time to stab him in the back and reveal that he is the true mastermind. He eventually does turning McCullen into his right hand man Destro. He was his puppet metaphorically before but now he is his puppet literally. Complete with an electro collar. Retaliation: “Destro… you’re out of the band.” Like.. seriously 😂
He just gets more impressive the more masked he gets. I really don't feel much for "Rex Lewis"... but the more he loses himself into becoming Cobra Commander...it just feels better for him, as a character. Who he is, or was, under the mask no longer matters. He IS Cobra personified. Anything before that is just kinda... bleh.
Some characters are better when you know them before they go down a darker path. Cobra Commander is different since he has had many origins and sometimes there have been a few Cobra Commanders take up the mantle in the comics. In one comic, he is a salesman who gets into a crash. I feel like they could play with that. Show us a Cobra Commander who founded the organisation before being killed. He is then replaced by a more competent one who is seen doing more. Also they could show Old Snake.
People were (rightfully) angry with Cobra Commander's design in the first movie. But his design in the second movie is just pure, beautiful, badassery! Even if you never read the comics or watched the 2D series, you gotta love it
People just didn't understand what the first design was going for, they took the most recent Cobra Commander design at the time, the idw one, and have him eye holes in reference to his og hooded look. Second time around they went with something more obvious 😆
Interesting how in the cartoons the main bad guys always have higher pitched, crazy voices but in live adaptation they always have these deeper modulated sounding voices lol. Sounds good don't get me wrong and I enjoyed the movies(except that last one from a few years ago lol) I just find it hilarious how Cobra Commander had a high ass voice in the show and a deep ass one in the movie 🤣
10:09 The way he says that is disturbing, as you’re reminded of the young, optimistic, and good hearted soldier, And seeing how twisted and psychotic he became.
At least we still got a little Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander action, like it's a challenge to make it happen seeing how Snake Eyes is a master fighter, meanwhile Cobra Commander is more of a master planner, though he does have some fighting skills.
I'll stand by RoC's design of Cobra Commander. His partially-transparent mask looks cool in its own right, and he came across as a more modern day Darth Vader with his deep voice and breathing apparatus (6:02). Plus he had a nice uniformity with him, Destro and their henchmen all being chrome-domed lol. (Also I just noticed his left eye looks blinded, which would explain why he had the "monocle" as the Doctor.)
I love when adaptation movies that are sometimes, if not fully mediocre, are able to capture some of the characters in their best forms. The aced the commander and then some in Retaliation.
W/ the breathing apparatus and monocle it’s a good fantasy villain voice, when Rex reveals his identity to Duke he sounds very close to Christopher Collins’s Cobra Commander and when he says, “You will call me Commander.”, moving forward he sounds like Author Burghardt’s Destro.
I think this is a great example for why it is better to be loved than feared I mean look at the lengths the entire organization went through to get their Commander back, plus keep working on his grand schemes without him there (or expectation for when he’d be back) His men really seem to take pride in their work too
Thanks for this wicked compilation, he is literally the best fucking character out of both films and the entire franchise, When we see the Doctor become Cobra Commander for the first time, it was a total shock and awesome surprise, His role is so amazing in both films !!!
"It's good to have you back, sir." Man, I love villains that have the genuine respect and admiration of their henchmen. Makes more sense than villains that rule their subordinates through fear.
For all the rough patches in these movies, the cobra test part to show of the nano tech is so well conceived and executed. Such perfectly, delicious villainy on display.
Wait, Joseph Gordon Levitt was Cobra Commander in the old G.I. Joe movies? Damn, he was true to the character, I didn't know the guy played a villain. And this was before Dark Knight Rises, so a villain became a hero later. Paramount is setting up a Transformers/G.I. Joe shared universe,(something they wanted to do years ago, but Bay directed Transformers back then), they might as well have Joseph back in the role. Especially with effects being far better today.
One of the things that makes Cobra Commander such a good villain is that he actually gets his hands dirty He doesn't just send wave after wave of lackeys to deal with his problems. He gets on the front lines, and puts in work. That's why his people stick with him, they know he has their back
Very cool! Storm Shadow was my favorite. It's been years since I've watched the first one and haven't seen the others but Joseph Gordon Levitt is a good actor. I'm glad he got his full helmet in the sequel too
Man, I LOVE Storm Shadow! He's great in the movies as well, his actor was very passionate about the part. Yeah Really loved Levitt in the role, you can tell he's having fun with it. When first presented with it, he saw the costume he would wear, thought it was the coolest thing ever, and signed on immediately. Seriously, that's all it took. The silver mask in the first movie was cool, but same, I was so happy to see the new, cartoon inspired helmet in the sequel. Thanks for watching oc!
@@rheubhenncabizares9912 Serpentor is just downright silly. He's arguably one of the most difficult characters to adapt, based on his look and origins. That's why he's been excluded from all G.I. Joe since the 80's with a few here and there exceptions, such as some comics, and being represented as a giant snake in G.I. Joe Renegades.
Yep. Destro's tech was CC's work and it didn't take much for him to 'usurp' Destro who was mean to be the 'face' of the organization until the time is right. Not to mention Storm Shadow and Firefly went to break CC out and him alone, not Destro. They also refer him as their commander immediately, implying they've been working for him for a while prior to the first film. If anything, it was clear CC was the boss since day 1, but he let Destro took the stage where he gathered resource and like-mind individuals into Cobra. The fact he didn't seem to bother getting caught and imprisoned was because only his front, Destro's arms deal company, that took the hit.
Cobra Commander had the jigsaw voice and it made him sound real bad ass not all cartoony and cheesy like he was in the cartoon series. In the animated series Shredder, Skeletor and Cobra Commander had very wimpy and whiny voices they sounded very sinister but silly. The movie versions of Shredder, Skeletor and Cobra Commander made them more scary and bad ass with strong and bold voices that sounded more serious and threatening. Say what you want about Masters and GI Joe but the Skeletor and Cobra Commander were the best part.
Cobra Commander was probably the only good thing about these movies. I hate how they gave the Commander a whole-ass backstory and proceeded to do nothing actually interesting about it besides ' Oh, he went insane because he felt betrayed'.
Well it wasn't for nothing, it connected some of the characters together in a way unlike before. It revealed that Rex was really the cause of all their problems, both the earlier ones, and the current ones they where facing in the movie.
@@Blotzwave because they don't need to be connected outside of being enemies. G. I. Joe is about advanced troops fighting advanced terrorist. You don't need any connections outside of that. Just make the heroes worth connecting with and the villains worth rooting against. All tht love story, nd oh cobra is my lost brother, is exactly what went wrong with the movie. The action was what made it money. The last thing that comes to mind when I see Cobra Commander, is Baroness' brother. Dukes old friend. Its senseless at worst and lazy at best.
@@deadpool2349 Well why not be connected? It can make the dynamic more interesting. Optimus and Megatron have a history. Obi-Wan and Darth Vader had a history. And those extra bits make the overall dynamic between characters interesting. I don't see how the love side plot and Rex Lewis story made anything go wrong. G.I. Joe originally had love plots, and the Rex gave Cobra Commander an origin that wasn't "Oh btw there's a secret race of snake people who put him up to everything, and he's a 9 eyed snake man." It made money because it's G.I. Joe, which includes action, as it should.
Love the first and last costume Also, the line "This will only hurt a little. The next, more so" has remained in my vocabulary since the movie's release.
this movie and its sequel were awesome. And how could I forget the sounds weapons and best of all: The Baroness

Blotzwave, if you are reading this, just so you know, that I am very grateful that you have made this compilation for Cobra Commander, because I enjoyed the two movies with this character. You have my thanks.
I wish they gave him the classic voice. Part of the reason why Cobra Commander is so iconic is because he's an intimidating supervillain woth the squeekiest voice you'll ever hear.
The classic voice was actually considered, but the actor of Cobra Commander didn't want to do it, because he felt it would be "cheap" just to copy the voice work of another actor, especially one who passed away of heart issues.
@@ArcTrooper269 Oh absolutely! I really like 5:55 as well, it had the theater applauding and it's obvious as to why. That entire scene was just awesome. Almost every line out of his mouth is some epic, villainous one-liner.

But that "bad seed" was always inside him. Just buried VERY deep down. But that airstrike probably messed with his head along with his body.
it's like fight club 😎
I never understood how in one line Destro is like "awww yiss check out my face... " to "what have you done to me?" 😂😂
Probably just the shock setting in.
I think he realized he got injected with the mind control nanotech, he might still be stoked about the metal face
I don't think he was sincerely excited about the metal mask, more like sarcasm and resignation.

2. It wasn't a creative Choice, It was a requitement from Channing Tatum, he didn't wanted to returned & they didn't want to recast him after recasting Cobra, so they just Killing him up(at least he died as a hero saving Flint & Roadblock)
Duke didn't die though. He is seen in the end credits scene.

Commanders outfit in Retaliation was literally _perfect_ .
Joseph Gordon-Levitt does not get enough credit for his performance in the first movie.
& in the RoC game too
Indeed. He played a very convincing role
9:03 love how much this guy loves his job
12:41 honestly that was pretty spot on. I get why they didn’t go with the high pitched voice, but I would’ve loved to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt do it for the actual movie.
Unlike modern superhero movies where they remove their headgear every 5 seconds. Quite irritating.
Hearing Joseph Gordon-Levitt emulating Chris Latta just for a split second made me smile
Cuz that voice is associated with Cobra being a dumbass like in the show whereas in the comics he was a more serious threat?
I’ve done the voice before and it messes with your throat.
Retaliation: “Destro… you’re out of the band.”
Like.. seriously 😂
Yeah, would’ve loved to see how he uses him for his Assets.

He just gets more impressive the more masked he gets. I really don't feel much for "Rex Lewis"... but the more he loses himself into becoming Cobra Commander...it just feels better for him, as a character. Who he is, or was, under the mask no longer matters. He IS Cobra personified. Anything before that is just kinda... bleh.
So I guess you could say nobody cared who he was… before he put on the mask?
@@CrusadiaIXIt doesn't matter who he was. What mattered was his plans.
This is probably the closest we will ever get to a Command and Conquer live action movie.

Man cobra commander was so damn cool in these movies. It's a shame these movies didn't succeed. I wanted to see more of him.
The second one was so good, they took it back to basics:
Cool costumes, cool code names and high Camp!
RIP Ray Stevenson, I love these movies.
Fun fact: originally in retaliation firefly wasn't going to wear his camo mask but ray Stevenson decided to wear it in some scenes.
@@zacglover3345 Thanks for the info my dude. I honestly don’t ever remember Firefly taking his mask off in the comics. I could be mistaken though
Gotta admit, Retaliation's version of Cobra Commander is Perfect! He sounds menacing, Looks menacing and walks like a Badass 😊

0:14 the pacing and instant cut to a firefight is hilarious to me because we miss him making the promise to her 😂
That's not how it's cut in the movie, just my own editing 😅
Especially with effects being far better today.
the Helmet and Dressing sense in the second part of Cobra commander is just perfect

You can just feel through the screen, the betrayal and shock from Chaning Tatum. Man, what an Oscar worthy performance
When vader walks, his minions would just be afraid and move back
when CC walks, the guy was casually talking to him and saluting him
Cobra Commander must be such a cool boss. 🤗
One of the things that makes Cobra Commander such a good villain is that he actually gets his hands dirty
He doesn't just send wave after wave of lackeys to deal with his problems. He gets on the front lines, and puts in work. That's why his people stick with him, they know he has their back
One of the few instances where the villains are basically owning the heroes
12:42
Imagine these movies with that voice. Marvelous.
One thing that this movie did right was actually making Cobra Commander Threatening and competent.
Out of all G.I. Joe variants this version of Cobra Commander is more badass in my opinion. Especially, the voice.
I am so happy to see people loved those movies here. Even if they were different than the cartoons, you could feel it was GiJOE.
Joseph’s “Cobra!” yell at the end! So Latta-esque! Loved it!
The next time we see Cobra Commander I want him to keep the suit he had in Retaliation but I want Steve Blum aka Starscream to voice him.
Also I want Julian McMahon to play Destro and have him and the Commander bicker like they do in the original cartoon.
Steve Blum, AKA 90% of people in every animated show or video game ever.
Makes sense the original voice actor of starscream also voiced cobra commander
They'll probably just get an actor that can do a better voice.
No, no overdubbing, shit is corny and only really worked for Darth Vader.
@@Blotzwave where is Serpentor The Strongest Villain?
@@rheubhenncabizares9912 Serpentor is just downright silly. He's arguably one of the most difficult characters to adapt, based on his look and origins. That's why he's been excluded from all G.I. Rewatching this it looks like Cobra Commander had been secretly taking over Destro's groups the whole time.
No me digas, JEJEJE😊
I gotta hand it to Zartan, the nuclear gamble was probably the most ballsy and badass way to force nuclear disarmament

Cobra Commander was probably the only good thing about these movies. I hate how they gave the Commander a whole-ass backstory and proceeded to do nothing actually interesting about it besides ' Oh, he went insane because he felt betrayed'.
