Hi Larry. I listened to you exactly. At the practice area I was hitting the shot correctly. You took away my fear of this shot. I skulled some, but the majority flew correctly. All I did was what you said. You’re the ******* Best. 5:34
Absolutely love this guy! Straight to the point effective easy to apply tips. Makes me want to rush out to practice. Again the short videos are so good. Big thank you!
Best chipping video on RUclips. However, you may want to use a lower lofted club for longer chips. Chipping this way gets the ball much higher in the air.
Do you open the face to expose the bounce in anyway? Also how much bounce do you have on your sand and lob wedge, thanks Larry for a really great and simple explanation on this!
Good explanation. The 2 other aha moments to incorporate with chilling to a) turn your belt to the target and b) use your legs, not just arms and legs to make your turn.
Excellent points Larry, very helpful in my quest to sort out my chipping anxiety but I think you may have ommitted one basic thing in your commentary ie your grip, you had the clubhead open and had adjusted your grip so that the lead hand was sort of on top of the grip ensuring that the bounce was engaged. I did not understand this until recently
Watch Larry's right knee. That move reveals (and as a swing thought can create) the weight shift and pelvis turn that provides the energy for the shot so that he doesn't have to use his hands and wrists to slap at the ball. That same swing thought and move can help cure other swing faults.
Is the grip any different than the grip in the build your own swing series? Same grip as a full shot? Would love to see more short game shots like the pitch and run, flop, etc. Great content and great channel!
Larry this makes sense for where it looks like you play where it's firm and fast but this would terrify me to hit the ground behind the ball on a soft course. do you still recommend this technique on soft turf?
Nice video, by the way you can still hinge and engage the bounce, you don't have to keep the wrists firm, it's personal preference, the main key is approaching impact shallow, again you can still use your wrists and be shallow.
Have ZERO confidence around greens unless I bump and run and keeping me from taking game to whole different level, love the tip. Did I miss whether you open clubface slightly to expose bounce, keep thinking this is missing ingredient for me too👀
This is great Larry! 50/50 with weight is great too as most advocate up to 70/30 but that feels a bit stuck and too steep. Are you transferring any weight during the chipping action? thanks Rob
My home course has extremely grainy grass around the greens. Are there any adjustments you would make when chipping into the grain? I feel like it will grab the club, even if I am shallow and using the bounce of the wedge.
Mango Man this may be a case where you go experiment with it and see what works for you, may have to be a bit cleaner with the contact, but bounce hitting turf will almost always be better than leading edge catching turf :)
jae yoon yes, although as the rough gets thicker, you need more speed, but I generally always try to hit an inch behind the ball, regardless of rough or fairway :) will make a follow up video out of rough so stay tuned!!!
depends on the person lol, but for most amateur players I would say chipping not hinging will become much easiest and low maintenance then using leading edge =)
loved the explanation. You know it's a good vid when there are 0 dislikes lol. I am pretty new to golf; basically in my second season. Just wondering if adding backspin to the ball can be done using this method? Also any suggestions for similar shots out of the rough...asking for a friend lol
Even the bots don't dislike it =P You shouldn't worry about adding backspin at this stage in your development =) Shots from rough you can still hit the ground first =)
Are you using same stance width as your wedge system, and is this basically just a short wedge system swing? It looks and sounds like you’re doing the same thing.
So after 25 years of crappy chipping, I finally figured it out!!!! All I had to do was keep the shaft leaning forward through the follow swing and now everything comes off nearly perfect. Why did all the hundreds of instructors I’ve had over a lifetime of golf not tell me that?
Agree 100%. I have had poor technique which exacerbated my yips for all these years. For me the one thought of keeping the straight line from my leading arm and the shaft was the "key." I am hitting better shorts in my backyard and hope I will take this confidence to the course. That would be amazing if I can! Well done Larry!
What you say and what you do are twoo different things. @5:05 in actual shot, arm and club are not straight in contrast to instruction. But it does go back to straight at impact.
When I freeze Larry's back-swing it sure looks like he has hinge on his backswing, and that the club is not pointing to 12 o'clock. Maybe because of the camera angle. I like the lesson though
simple 5 min video whereas others taking 15 minutes to explain the same thing. Thanks a lot mate sending thanks from australia!
"Before we talk about how to use the bounce let's talk about the history of the sand wedge!"
That is one of the best explanations of using the bounce that I have heard

Omg man, the no hinge idea completely changed everything, all my shots coming out spinning and checking fast, huge difference thank you
Good stuff man!!!
Best chipping video on RUclips. However, you may want to use a lower lofted club for longer chips. Chipping this way gets the ball much higher in the air.
This is a video for talking about how to use he bounce, it's not a video on club selection =)
@@LarryCheungGolf No reason for you to be a dick.
Best explanation I have seen about chipping. Cannot wait to follow these tips 😀👍
Explained very well. Good video
Broken down in simple terms. Thanks!

thank you larry.. great explanation.

Awesome videos, Larry! Your pitching and chipping videos have really helped my mechanics and results. I really appreciate it and love your videos!
Happy to hear, keep practicing and improving!!! =)
Awesome video Man, love how you detail the steps. Best on you tube up there with rick shells
Great! I'll give her a go, it looks and sounds very easy to do. Thanks for putting this up.
You're welcome =)
Good video on pitching.
this technique has shaved 5 strokes off my game i was averaging 98 now i averaging 93. awesome info as usual keep it coming
Chris Richardson appreciate it :)

The right leg is often overlooked and definitely plays a big role in moving well for righties!!! =)
Hi Larry great video, the only thing is disagree with is the 50/50 weight, i'd suggest 60/40 myself, but whatever works right.
Great tempo, "no" hinge swing thoughts to prevent me from turning my wedge bounce into a shovel . (I tend to be too steep)
Thank you Larry
Stevo Stevopick for sure!!! We want the bounce to interact with the ground, not the leading edge!!! :)
grew a beard waiting for larry to hit a shot lol.
Is the grip any different than the grip in the build your own swing series? Same grip as a full shot? Would love to see more short game shots like the pitch and run, flop, etc. Great content and great channel!
Ya i do same grip for everything, you'll see more once the weather gets better =P
Looking forward to it. Keep up the good work. My full swing has improved dramatically since I subscribed.
Great video!
Great vid, really easy to understand. What bounce do you personally use with your wedges?
Zachary Milos thanks :) I personally have 14* of bounce on my 58* wedge
Larry this makes sense for where it looks like you play where it's firm and fast but this would terrify me to hit the ground behind the ball on a soft course. do you still recommend this technique on soft turf?
Player dependent, may have to be little cleaner in the contact. But idea still the same as long you don’t get caught stuck in the ground :)
wow great explanation
Any forearm rotation? Should the clubface point to 10:30 at parallel as in a full swing?
Depends on player =)
Nice video, by the way you can still hinge and engage the bounce, you don't have to keep the wrists firm, it's personal preference, the main key is approaching impact shallow, again you can still use your wrists and be shallow.
I agree, but in my opinion most can benefit with having less hinge =)
Have ZERO confidence around greens unless I bump and run and keeping me from taking game to whole different level, love the tip. Did I miss whether you open clubface slightly to expose bounce, keep thinking this is missing ingredient for me too👀
no need to open face too much to expose the bounce, square face is fine as long as you don't lean too much =)
Great video. Are you just swinging your arms or are you using your lower body to swing through the ball?
lower body to move through the ball =)
This is great Larry! 50/50 with weight is great too as most advocate up to 70/30 but that feels a bit stuck and too steep. Are you transferring any weight during the chipping action? thanks Rob
Not strict on it, but stay feeling around 50/50 throughout =)
Looks like more of a pitch shot as opposed to a chip shot?
My home course has extremely grainy grass around the greens. Are there any adjustments you would make when chipping into the grain? I feel like it will grab the club, even if I am shallow and using the bounce of the wedge.
Mango Man this may be a case where you go experiment with it and see what works for you, may have to be a bit cleaner with the contact, but bounce hitting turf will almost always be better than leading edge catching turf :)
What adjustments do you make, if any, when you are in the rough around the green? Do you still try and hit behind the ball? Thanks.
Hi Larry,
Thanks a lot for an excellent video! What is the max distance you will employ this strategy? thanks! Best regards Peter
you can play around with it =)
@@LarryCheungGolf Thanks!
Does this technique also work out of light/medium rough? I find I’m having to make a bigger swing than I normally do when using the bounce
jae yoon yes, although as the rough gets thicker, you need more speed, but I generally always try to hit an inch behind the ball, regardless of rough or fairway :) will make a follow up video out of rough so stay tuned!!!
What about in deep grass?
Will have a video on that soon =)
hey Larry. I know there are several variables to consider but what bounce do you recommend for most consistent chipping results?
that is an unanswerable question =P
Which requires more practice, chipping using the leading edge or not hinging?
depends on the person lol, but for most amateur players I would say chipping not hinging will become much easiest and low maintenance then using leading edge =)
@@LarryCheungGolf 👍 Didn’t know my question was funny🤷♂️

no hinge* think of it as a long putt, stroke it like a putt change club for lower or higher loft depending on the distance
What degree club is that you are using?
58* wedge =)
What bounce
Can you comment on the club used ?
i'm using my 58* wedge here =)
Are you using same stance width as your wedge system, and is this basically just a short wedge system swing? It looks and sounds like you’re doing the same thing.
pretty much, shorter the swing, narrower the width =)
Works!
how would you do this in wet lie conditions?
play around with it and see what you come up with =)
good stuff

Nice club house!
Nice chips but you do hinge your wrists quite a bit in the actual swings when you hit the ball.
I said in the video that no hinge is a feel, and that I know my wrists hinge, this is a feel that has helped alot of people =)
This works. Similar to GGswingtips ideas on how not to chunk chips!
Not familiar with his ideas on chipping but this is definitely the way to go to maximize your forgiveness around the green!!! =)
What you say and what you do are twoo different things.
@5:05 in actual shot, arm and club are not straight in contrast to instruction.
But it does go back to straight at impact.
It's a feel and idea, feel and real rarely match up =)
@@LarryCheungGolf got it - thanks

like I said in the video, no hinge is a feel =)
Hey, do I get a cut of your profits in this video? That's my house in the background.
Hey everybody this guy's got a house
What if you play shitty courses with mushy divot filled approaches and pock marked greens?
I don't think thats the case =)
You can still use the bounce effectively by hinging and unhinging, personal preference imo.
For sure, if you do it well go for it, but in my opinion more amateur golfers who struggle with chipping can benefit from doing it this way =)
It looks like you do Hing
Like I mentioned in the video, the feel is to try to do no hinge
Another case of feel not being real. You actually use a lot of wrist hinge in your back swing.
