I recently revisited the Curl Maker and I remember it clumping my hair better about 2 years ago. Idk if it's reformulated but it really gives the shingled look and doesn't seem to create the same cast.
I tried the gel and leave in together years ago and regretted it. It was flake city! And I had an important event that I had to go to with all those flakes. I learned then to NEVER try a new product before an important event.
😖 that’s terrible. I had a feeling during the application of the leave-in that this was not going to work out. I plan on trying some of their other products with the Curl Maker to see how that works.
@@BrittanyMia I don't understand how the leave in for the same brand doesn't mix well. Big disappointment. I've been using Adowa leave in with Curly Magic and the Innessence as a topper. Works well!
@@BrittanyMia I was going to ask you how did you like it?! Bc when I tried it was quite disappointing! I hate when my curls are popping in the house but when I go outdoors it’s a hot flakey mess!
I had the same experience. I tried the Curl maker first by itself and it dried white on my hair, then I tried it with the honey leave in because my hair loves that leave in, the moisture was there but again it dried white on my hair. So I gave it one last try with the curl love but that gave me the same dry, white results. I have since thrown away the Curl maker and Curl love and am iffy about trying anymore Camille rose products because so far the only ones that worked was the algae renew DC and the honey leave in.
Thank you for doing this combo! I have found it easier for me to work with the Curl Maker vs Curly Magic. I also do not like the Camille Rose Curl Love leave in and use the Kinky Curly leave in under the Curl Maker instead. No flaking for me. And literally your hair looks good with everything you use! 😊
Ok! There was definitely a good amount of errors within the set! Personally, more water and less of the leave in is best! Although, most times I prefer to use it on its own as a base, then a foam or a gel with more hold over the top! Secondly, raking a lot slower, and with smaller sections, will allow the set to not have as much frizz, because the hair won't be over worked, and you can get a smoother and more clumped result! Lastly, the flaking definitely came from the AVEDA leave in! Its not formulated as a topper, and works best on CLEAN towel dried hair because it's a spray leave in conditioner! Overall, I'd definitely try the gel again either by its self, or with the mixed chicks leave in for added hydration!
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I personally won’t be using this leave in again. And I know for a fact that that’s where the flaking came from because I have tried the gel and the Aveda heat protectant since then, and had no flaking whatsoever. It was recommended to me as a heat protectant, and I have been using it that way with no problems outside of this specific Wash N’ Go.
When you said you want MORE definition, my draw dropped aha. You and your hair look BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for this video, super helpful. Have subscribed! X
Yea the leave-in is ok to me. I've never used it for a wash n go though. It also doesn't fully absorb into my hair. I kinda see it sitting on top of my hair and for that I've never paired it with the curl maker because I know the curl maker will flake if you use too much and not enough water with it. Butttt, I do like the curl maker. Much better than the UFD actually. And its great underneath the Doux mousse def. You can get more or less hold based on how much of the gel you use under the mousse. And that combo doesn't flake for me.
Yeah, I’ve heard people like the curl maker better than the curly magic as a base gel. I’ll be testing that out in the future. Thanks for sharing this combo!
@@BrittanyMia Also, a tip for longer, firmer hold with the mousse def, try applying another layer of mousse after you have fully dried your hair. You can do it at some point during the week or as the last step on wash day. Don't wet the hair or anything. Just section your hair and apply more mousse, then let it dry (air or heat). It works like a dream, even though it's another step in the process.
thank you for recommending this combo!! i was having such a hard time with the curl maker, but I've used it twice now with the doux on top and have had the best results I've ever had with my wash n go! I think the weather right now has a huge impact on longevity (cold, minimal humidity) especially if i never leave the house but I've also loved foam as base with UFD and ICH on top, so I think my hair just loves foam
Hey! I’ve been watching your wash and go series and it’s been great! I watched your last video about breakage and what helped me is to apply the styling product all over my head on soaking wet hair and then rake instead of wetting in sections and then raking. I found I didn’t have to as much raking which reduced breakage. Keep up with the videos 💪🏾
Yes. This works for me too. One thing my stylist taught me was after detangling with conditioner, to already have my hair set where I want it to be. So when I rinse out the conditioner I shouldn’t run my fingers through it because that disturbs the curls and then apply the styler all over (not in sections) and then rake it through where needed
I use the curl maker cause I can only order UFD online, and I can’t be bothered to do that. I like it, it took a lot of learning to know how to use it but once I use it with trepadora bamboo gin., it’s really good
Your hair looks beautiful! I started using CRCM last winter after finding it on clearance along with the Honey Hydrate Leave-In. It was a game changer for my fine/thin hair. I realized creamy products were weighing down and frizzing my hair. These two together really gave me great definition with very little frizz. I have a medium tapered TWA. So I refresh it daily with water in the shower and sometimes add a bit more CM or both the CM and the Honey Hydrate. I finger detangle and smooth my strands mostly at the crown where it’s prone to frizz. I sometimes shingle the sides to enhance the tapered look. I love my results with these products and a generous amount of water, no spritzing, which I find useless for my hair. Sometimes I blow dry the excess water with no heat. I get a soft hold. No flakes! (I also use UFD Curly Magic w/ the Honey Hydrate and get similar results.)
I want to try the Honey Hydrate, but the smell is soooo strong. I may try it in the future but I tried it years ago and I literally had to wash my hair the next day. I felt sick from the smell. Does that honey smell linger in your hair?
No HH scent doesn’t linger. I like that HH warms in my hands a bit. It feels very moisturizing. I think it’s what cuts down the crunch of the gel. I don’t mind going a day or two without refreshing my hair bc it doesn’t look hella dusty. I think the CM has a really strong marshmallowy sweet scent also. I could not stand it at first and almost quit using it, which is why I was also using UFD. But over time I’ve gotten used to the scent and it doesn’t bother me now. Nose blind 😅. I’m glad I stuck it out. A little goes a long long way. I only use 2-3 pumps on my whole head.
Your hair came out gorgeous, flakes and all. I can't wait for you to discover new combos that don't flake with Curl Maker and other base gel products. When you do your next Favorite Wash and Go Combos video, please show us the end result of the combos you are highlighting and let us know what you liked about it based on your experience. I would always use the Camille rose coconut water leave in and other cream like leave-ins (some light and some thick in consistency) and I have found that my hair does not absorb it well. It seems to sit on top of my hair and never absorb. I'm not sure if Im using it wrong or using too much but it doesn't absorb and leaves me with a lot, a lot of white product build up everywhere. 🤷♀I will try some suggestions from fellow subbies on this thread like trying it on soaking wet hair or even trying it on damp hair then wetting it. Just a few questions about your wash & go process: Are you thumb combing mostly to release tangles from you hair at first then using your fingers to to do a thorough detangling? When you finished styling the front of you hair, did you emerge your hair under the running shower water again to set or clump the curls before applying the heat protectant? Whatever you did, you did that! It seemed to provide even more definition, clumping, and/or eliminate frizz. Would love to know what you did. In your next video I would love to see the styling of the front of your hair and the full process before going under the dryer. Do you find a heat protectant to be necessary before going under the dryer. Do you just diffuse your hair as opposed to the hooded hair dryer? If so, do you prefer the hooded hair dryer? Loving your journey! Thank you for the videos! Merry Christmas!
That’s a good idea for the next favorite video. Thanks for sharing. I am thumb combing to release tangles, and that also helps with a thorough detangle with my fingers. The thumb combing was the main thing that I did, but I will also go in and rake a little bit if I need to but mostly separating. I did not emerge my hair underwater to clip my curls. I was upset that my camera overheated because this time I sectioned my bangs part out and styled it that way, which is why I think it looks better because it was intentional. I did the same things I usually do, which is applying product, and smoothing it into my hair and I used my thumbs as well as the praying hands method. I don’t think the heat protectant is 100% necessary but it makes me feel better. I prefer sitting under the hood dryer. I typically sit under the dryer for an hour and diffuse the rest.
I have tried this custard manyyyy times only to get the results you got. I find that it flakes even by it's self, but if I use less then I don't get the desired look. I don't hate the leave in but I think it's overrated as well. We have a scary similar hair pattern so you experience doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
@@BrittanyMia Yeaaa... the worst part is, I can live with tiny flakes but this one like, sheds lol. It's like it leaves a gummy film. I have no idea how people compare this to UFD. I high key watched because our texture looks identical and misery loves company lmaooo
Other than the flakes the WnG looks great! I haven't used Curl Maker in a long time, but if I remember correctly I used the Coconut Water Leave-in. I don't have the time or patience for flakes so I always test a new product combo before I put it in my hair to see if it will flake. If it doesn't pass the test, then it doesn't go in my hair. Just so you know, when you use the Aphrogee two-step follow the directions as stated or you will break your hair off. Once your hair hardens do absolutely nothing to it except rinse the Aphrogee out. I used to hold my hands up above my head as a barrier between the water pressure and my hair until some water hit my hair and started to soften it.
Omg, looks actually great minus the flaking! I was wondering if you have any professional Clarifying shampoos in your stash - like a Malibu C Undo Goo, or an olaplex N 4c Clarifying. I find that when my hair gets limp and gummy, I clarify and it's like a reset button miracle - all the treatments/conditioners and gels just work so much better on clarified coils.
This reminds me of the bentonite clay craze from a few years ago (Maximum Hydration Method) We were so crazy over what was essentially clarifying our hair. We swore it made our curls pop and absorb product better…meanwhile clarifying shampoos got the job done with no mess.
I don’t have any professional clarifying shampoos like the ones you mentioned. I just have the Kinky Curly Come Clean. I had shampooed my hair twice before using these products, and I don’t think clarifying was the issue with this combo, but I will look into those products in the future. @@mags00154I don’t know how this will fair with a gel used on top of it, but regardless i know that a very good moisturizing and slippy spray leave in is the Aphogee Pro-Vitamin leave in. The purple bottle specifically
Merry Christmas! I’m using presently curl maker with I create hold. It’s ok . I never tried the gel with the milk. For me it’s a alternative this gel. Maybe I ‘ll go back to kinky curly.
@@BrittanyMiaI know I’m way late, but I get great wngs with ApHogee Provitamin leave-in and the CR curl maker. I’ve used the CR curl love and curl maker and didn’t get flakes.
Hey there! Why the Aveda oil? It has castor and rice bran oil - those will definitely cause frizz and it really doesn't work with the botanical gel used. That combo is what is causing your flakes/pellets and frizz. Brilliant is also primarily used as a finishing oil when you're doing a blow out, not really for wash n gos. You should definitely clarify (Malibu Un-do-goo) for your next shampoo if you want to set yourself up for better results next time. Hope this helps! Happy holidays!
Hey. It’s a heat protectant. I’ve used it before off-camera with different combinations, so I’m not sure if that’s really the cause of the flaking, because that did not happen with the other combinations. And I shampooed twice before styling my hair, but yes. I am going to invest in a salon quality clarifier as opposed to using the kinky curly Come clean as my only clarifying shampoo. Thanks for the suggestion and happy holidays to you too!
I saw the title and was hoping you didn't get the flakes I did with CR. Your hair looks similar to my hair after CR. It's nice, but flakes. I dont know how to apply and not get flakes. It does it alone or with CR leavein as well. If it wasn't for the flakes it would be a go to for me. UFD seems to be my staple.
I haven’t experienced flakes when I use a lighter spray leave-in like Allikay Naturals Lemongrass nor when I’ve used the Curlmaker solo. Looking forward to your next share. Happy Holidays
Im a boy i have question. 1. so with curl maker and mosture how long will it last, and when should i reapply products? 2. how do i maintain curls when sleep and when i wake up?. 3. For hair hang time , what the minimum inches, like 5?
I used them both it does not flack if you wet it alot and you have to to work well the leaving well add water then add the gel it works great but don't put any other oil or leave in conditioner s I hope that helps at first it was like that for me but I try to wet it alot and work the leave in conditioner before add gel well 💖
This gel is on sale rn at a Sally’s and I’m fighting the urge not to buy it. I usually use KC Custard, but I’m looking for more moisture for the winter time. But damn the flakes are so off putting. 😅
Just in case the sale goes off before I make another video using the product, it was actually the Moisture Milk Leave-in that was causing the flakes. I’ve tried it since and had no flakes. I recommend trying it while it’s on sale!
Do you see or feel a difference in using a heat protectant before drying your curls? I’m thinking about using it, but I’m unsure. 🥰And happy New Year 🥳
I've found that I can only make the curl maker work for twist outs. i cant make it work at all for wash and gos, or really anything else otherwise it flakes really badly😭
The curl maker does not work for my hair, it was expensive too 😢. I don’t like how it feels when applied in the shower to really wet hair. I have to apply a lot to actually feel like it saturating my stands well.
I’ve never used the curl love moisture milk I use the coconut water leave in and the curl maker works very good with that, but I did notice after trial and error that my soaking wet hair didn’t like leave in conditioners or masks and that in order for my hair to absorb any leave In My hair has to be damp near dry then I can add water after I’ve put on the leave in to help emulsify it. Weird I know but every leave in I tried on wet hair just ends up looking dry as if I’d not use anything. Any suggestions on good leave ins?
I’ve heard good things about the coconut water leave in. I’m going to have to try that out. As far as application, I find that water-based leave ins are best to use on really wet hair for me. It’s as if they soak in really well and I let them sit in my hair as I’m styling. (which I did not do this time) because this was giving cream, but it was just sitting on my hair. I’ll be making a video on here soon, but the first few that come to mind are the Ouidad Moisture lock leave in and the Jane Carter curls to go leave in. I also love the kinky curly knot today.
It sounds like you have low porosity hair. When I was low porosity my products worked better on damp hair. You might need to clarify your hair with a shampoo that has chelating in it to remove build up and hard water. Then it might absorb products better. Clarify hair every week for maybe the first 1-3 weeks of washes(depends on when the last time you clarify if it’s been a while like months than 2-3 weeks) and then return to moisture shampoo and clarify once a month. Make sure you deep condition afterwards(DC with heat will be better) and please detangle hair before using clarifying shampoos. I suggest TPH honey fresh aloe Vera clarifying shampoo. It’s a reasonable price. Also, Ouai detox shampoo, but it’s expensive. I hope that works for you.
@@Neesha242 my hair is fine and it doesn’t take any time for my hair to absorb water and it dries very fast so I thought it high porosity. I wash my hair every 1-4 days and I clarify every three washes. I had been using Mielle exfoliating clarifying shampoo to clarify but I actually went to ultra yesterday looking for a higher grade shampoo to clarify with. I have never washed my hair before i detangled it. I leaned my very first wash after a 2 month protective style that that was a no no
can you show how you do the front of your hair next time i wanna no how you let it fall in front like that it seem like the carmera dnt let u get that part sorry
I completely understand, because I was afraid to use gel all over my head for years! I only started using gel all over my head when I big chopped. I decided to give it a try and see how it worked out because the idea of using gel all over was really wild to me. Especially the wet line and eco-stylers. It made no sense. But for the botanical gels and the serum-like gels it’s making a lot more sense because it’s a lot softer of a hold and a lot more moisturizing.

@@mags00154I don’t know how this will fair with a gel used on top of it, but regardless i know that a very good moisturizing and slippy spray leave in is the Aphogee Pro-Vitamin leave in. The purple bottle specifically
I really like the shampoo from this line. So soft and moisturizing. Definitely a shampoo you can work through to get to your scalp
I thought about purchasing it, but I have so much shampoo lol I can’t get through it as fast as I can get through conditioner.
@@BrittanyMia I wonder if they have a smaller size for travel or testing or something
@@Iwasonceanonionwithnolayers I looked it up and I can’t seem to find any 🤷🏾♀️ at least not for the shampoo.
@@BrittanyMia 🤔 seems like a wasted opportunity on their part
Merry Christmas! I’m using presently curl maker with I create hold. It’s ok . I never tried the gel with the milk. For me it’s a alternative this gel. Maybe I ‘ll go back to kinky curly.
I never tried the leave-in before, If I was you I would experiment with what other leave-in would work with the curl maker.
Yeah. I’m going to experiment with it more.
@@BrittanyMiaI know I’m way late, but I get great wngs with ApHogee Provitamin leave-in and the CR curl maker. I’ve used the CR curl love and curl maker and didn’t get flakes.
Gorgeous!!! 😍😍😍😍 your hair is sooo beautiful!!! 🥰🥰😍😍
Thank you ☺️
I think it's a good idea to use the gel alone (on dripping wet hair) next time.
Yeah, I’ll be using it alone the next time I use it.
I’ve been meaning to revisit Camille rose I have quite a few of their products, and also merry Christmas 🎄
I find the Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor helps with my elasticity
Moisture milk is meh but I love curl maker more as a base gel than UFD.
Oh dang, it sucks to hear that by itself it still can cause flakes. I’m gonna give it a try and see what happens.
Your hair looks really good! ☺️
Thanks 😊
i have camille rose coconut water products, are they better than the pink ones ?
I used them both it does not flack if you wet it alot and you have to to work well the leaving well add water then add the gel it works great but don't put any other oil or leave in conditioner s I hope that helps at first it was like that for me but I try to wet it alot and work the leave in conditioner before add gel well 💖
Thanks for sharing. I won’t be using the leave in ever again lol but I will be trying the gel out in different combos.
Do you think the heat protected played a part in your results? Like the flaking?
Nah I’ve used it before and it worked well without any flaking. I’m 100% sure it’s the leave-in.
great results!
Thanks!
Cantu leave in and curl maker when hair is wet and dry naturally is the bomb! Just curl maker too expensive for to buy on occasion 🤦🏽♀️
Thanks for sharing!
Do you see or feel a difference in using a heat protectant before drying your curls? I’m thinking about using it, but I’m unsure. 🥰And happy New Year 🥳
Not necessarily, no. It’s more of a mental thing for me. I just like to have it since I sit under the dryer two times a week. Happy New Year 🎊🎆
I think I've asked you this before, but where did you get that bonnet from? It's pretty without being too loud.
From Glowbydaye
I've found that I can only make the curl maker work for twist outs. i cant make it work at all for wash and gos, or really anything else otherwise it flakes really badly😭
Yeah, it stays flaking on me.
The curl maker does not work for my hair, it was expensive too 😢. I don’t like how it feels when applied in the shower to really wet hair. I have to apply a lot to actually feel like it saturating my stands well.
All good, there are so many other products that can work for you.
Your hair is growing lovely 😊
I leaned my very first wash after a 2 month protective style that that was a no no
@@Jakelan20 oh ok then it’s probably is high porosity. A higher grade clarifying shampoo might work better
@@Neesha242 which clarifier do you recommend. I purchased Camille rose ginger rinse is that a clarifier?
Your cut is banging on you!
Thanks!
I don’t see that you tried it with style setter. That is how I use it. As recommended.
Finally found someone with my curl type
Welcome 🤗
Is this a single product wash and go?
can you show how you do the front of your hair next time i wanna no how you let it fall in front like that it seem like the carmera dnt let u get that part sorry
Yes, I can. I have a few videos where I show how I style the front of my hair, but I’ll continue to do so.
Im actually afraid to use gel all over my head. The only times I've used it is before my second big chop when I would slick my back in to a puff.
Can you try the mielle custard?
I’m on the fence about Mielle Organics right now, but I may give it a go in the future.
I heard this product is great with Uncle Funky’s Daughter’s gel
I’ve heard that as well. I’m going to try that out.
Hi! Maybe try the Curl Smith line(especially the curl Smith Bond salve).
Hey! I’ll be trying out the OlaPlex line for a year before I consider switching. Thanks for the suggestion.
Wow…..well I guess I will scratch this leave in off of my list of things to try. Flakes are the devils work🤣 I despise them....
🤣🤣 the devils work has me weak.
@@BrittanyMia sad part is if anyone has experienced flakes....they KNOW exactly what I mean🤣
Your wash and go was gorgeous in terms definition. The flaking is disappointing.
It was very disappointing. I really liked it outside of that.
I love the consistency of the leave in conditioner but the smell…I just really don’t like sweet smells and this was SWEET! 😂
At first I was like oh no lol, but I thought it would wear off. It did not. 🙃
What hooded dryer do you use?
It's in the description box 💜
@@BrittanyMia oh lol. Thank you
Do people really just let their shower run the entire time they're styling their hair...? And why so much product?
🤗 I don’t just let the water run. And because that felt right. I go based off of feeling and I can get heavy handed because of it.
The olaplex takes time to see the results. It's not immediate.
Yup! I’m aware.
