Even if cost is no object, the downtime is killer on piston twins. Not to mention youre doubling the number of failure points that could lead to an emergency. A single turbine is much safer than a twin piston.
Yah Cheap has a completely different context in aviation. That's from a man with a 72ft SeaRay. I thought boats were expensive until I found this cherry King Air C90. I picked it up as a foreclosure so I got a good deal on it. The old owner lost or burned all the logs so I ended up spending more to get it re-certified than I paid for it.
If you find a 150 for 15 grand in annual let me know I’ll buy it immediately! Lol. God they used to be this price not that long ago. Now your talking 50k for a pristine 150/2. But what’s crazy is your 100% right about the new car. My friend just bought a USED Silverado and it was 50k. I’m shopping for a new van for my business. Last time I bought any kind of vehicle from a dealer was in 2012. It’s insane the difference of 10 years.
Only one thing that is cheap in aviation. That is baby birds in a nest. Unless that nest is in one of your engine intakes. That will still be expensive! 😂😂😂
Can get an old piper for 30-50k. Can get experimental/kit planes for 20-40k. They also only require sport pilot license , which is only 6-7k of schooling
Here: the twin aircraft initially displayed is a Baron 55. You can buy a decent one in the 150-200k range. It will cost you around 350/hr to operate it. You are looking at around 40-45k a year to operate one with all your expenses covered. Plenty of you reading this can afford this and even more of you cannot. Remember, in America “expensive is a relative term” as there will always be somebody that can affoard toys an order of magnitude more expensive than you and me. Having said that, if you are one of the lucky ones that can, Good for you!
I think a better thing to do, if possible, buy a share of a plane in a syndicate and chances are it's part of a club - meaning you have constant access and also maintenance is covered, landing costs are covered, all that is done for you, and if not, you get the fun of doing that.
I work at an airport and there’s like an 84 G-3 that comes in there every once and a while and god damn is it louder than an F-18 and one of the engines produces quite a bit of smoke at full throttle
Would it be cheaper to find an old used and rebuild it? Or buy all parts in a kit and build new from ground up? I'm no pilot or owner of any airplane so forgive my ignorance
That price is actually cheap for what you get, it’s relative my guy. 50k is dirt cheap for a house but expensive for a hamburger. Don’t take a nuclear physicist to understand this concept
@@HieronymousLex Honestly the video is kinda misleading. An owner wouldnt normally fly their citation, hence "biz jet". But an owner would fly their cessna 150, which was the thumbnail. There are a lot of GA aircraft and the video had to jump right into twin engines and biz jets. I feel like this youtuber is just fckin around with viewers by naming aircraft with huge upfront and maintenence costs and going well beyond the scope of realistic general aircraft ownership.
My sisters father in law built his own plane in his basement. He was a high school shop teacher. It was a great little plane and flew like a bird no problem. All in under $15K.
Twin engines are cheap because there are high maintenance and slap the bill on you later. Also because you have to put in so many flight hours to get a twin engine license
We just did an annual on a 206 from the 60s and it was 8k after they had already replaced a wing previously that year. Airplanes aren’t ever going to be cheap
Basically, after the "cheap" cost and maintenance you should have just bought a new plane and had the piece of mind and not have to worry about too crazy of maintenance for a little bit. But then of course you need the money to buy a new jet lol
My flying instructor just flew a light aircraft from Ireland back to the UK which his non-pilot friend had just bought - with a very recent engine in it - for £13,000. In what way is a half million dollar plane CHEAP?
Or you can buy an ultra light plane for anywhere between a few thousand to 30,000 or 40,000 and you dont need a pilots license. That includes ultra light helicopters
Oh sweet less than a million let me grab my check book. I can't even afford to put myself through to anything beyond private. Last thing I will ever afford is to own my own plane and I do not live beyond my means.
what? how about an old cessna, moonie, ercoupe, aeronica. i could go on... now those are cheap and affordable for your average person... what you bring up are planes that cost more than most peoples houses...
Yeah, I knew a guy who bought a aeronica chief for 60k, experimental planes are pretty affordable but those can costly to maintain if you aren’t careful. You can get a decent Cozy MkIV for 60k-80k and they are fast efficient four seaters.
Get your Pilots license lookupflightacademy.com
The maintenance of an older twin could eat you alive. The purchase price is just the down payment.
That’s a great way to put it!
Well said 😊
Please buy old airplanes! I maintain them!😂
You never own aircfaft. You just rent them.
Even if cost is no object, the downtime is killer on piston twins. Not to mention youre doubling the number of failure points that could lead to an emergency. A single turbine is much safer than a twin piston.
Anything that flys, floats, or F#%ks… it’s much cheaper to rent
Totally said
( facts )
That's why I only rent your wife
What would cars be? Haha
Basically anything with a engine.
Eloquently stated by Spencer Strasmore
😂😂
Here I am with an 80 year old champ I paid $19k for, $350 annual inspections and 4 gallons an hour…
What kind of boat is it?
And fun to fly.

You can get a decent 2 or 4 seater for 50-60k
Where? Everyone asking $120K for a clapped out 172
It's not the cost of a plane it's the cost of keeping a plane
I mean the Cessna 150's at the cheapest at $15,000 and most of them are cheaper then a new car!😎🤙🔥
Maybe 5 years ago, but go check now. You’d be lucky to find one under $35k

I’d rather get a one person Helo that’s deemed to be an experimental aircraft.
I work at an airport and there’s like an 84 G-3 that comes in there every once and a while and god damn is it louder than an F-18 and one of the engines produces quite a bit of smoke at full throttle

"Cheap aeroplanes to buy".. mentions a citation 🤡

It is a 40 year old Citation lol. Maintenance will kill you

Only “cheap” way in the air is a paramotor. Can be under $10k depending what you get
Starting to understand the appeal of leasing them. Especially if for business!
It’s one thing buying a “cheap” aircraft, but you then have to run and maintain it
You can build/buy an ultralight, lsa, or experimental for a few thousand dollars in a lot of cases.
Cost more my money than two houses here combined. That ain't cheap.
The cheapest jets are the Mitsubishi MU300 Diamond, can be bought under a $100,000
"Cheap"...until you factor in insurance, hanger, annual/maint., fuel, etc!
Corrosion and availability of parts are your problem!
Didnt even think of part availability.
Thats huge!
That's why you get a pre purchase inspection. There are lots of clean vintage aircraft out there if you look in the right places
@@thecanadianavee8r660 inspection of ten miss critical areas of potential corrosion and again parts availability will be an issues!
Ahh, verry cheap. This is my time to shine! Here i come private jet that only is 999,999$
Just buy one and get a RUclipsr to restore and maintain it, fund it with rappers and use pilots that want clout then boom. You’re flush and own a jet
A Cessna 310 can be found a lot cheaper than a 182. It's crazy.
Yeah, the mandatory maintenance alone is insane!

I hear insurance on twins is going to go through the roof this year.

How much you demand of this Piper?

“Look at this private jet that’s huge”
Lol fuckin what
Remember need s parachute if you fly one of this plsne
Just go to the middle east, surely there's some rich oil sheik that got tired of the color on his Cessna

What if you went experimental with a twin and put good liquid cooled rotax or Honda conversion motors. The expense is faa cert, not the actual parts

a twin engine for less than 200k? in my dreams.
