@Blockhead
I have a 2016 Electra Glide Ultra with what I’m told is a Stage 1 Screaming Eagle kit on it, it has an X pipe exhaust and I recently tooled around the dealership lot in first gear and the bike acted(sounded) like I was lugging it by going too slow!
I bought it as it sits now and I’m wondering if there’s more than the Stage 1kit involved!
They provided the tuner that was used on it, but maybe Chris can provide me with a little more information than what I currently have!
The lot area around the dealership is not real large and I was trying not to hit parked cars or get the bike moving too fast to maneuver around the building or parked vehicles.
Maybe I’m just scared of the power the bike has.
Man its weird, I swear I have been subed for awhile but it said I wasnt. so I resubed. RUclips is weird sometimes lol.
Eyyy Block. Bought my 2018 Breakout after your watching your review way back when and just ordered the TBR Turnout to wake it up. Keep on growing
Hit that bitxh 😂😂
You need exhaust scavenging
I wouldn’t call it back pressure since that’s a loaded thing to say
You need a 2 into 1 for flow and exhaust to to essentially pull the air out without running flow
Bringing Chris on board was a fantastic idea. This channel has become one of my top channels. The content just keeps getting better.
Thanks Mark, glad you’re enjoying the vids! 🤘🏼
Chris was awesome
If anyone watching this feels their job is under appreciated just think how the guy on the assembly line putting stock Harley pipes on feels
And for those of you with Carbeureted motors, the stage 1 is still a 3 step process, but a little more mechanically involved. In place of a tuner (used on FI engines) you re-jet the carb, which will allow a higher fuel flow rate.
Will the higher fuel flow rate take away from the gas mileage?
@@jacobdowney318 yes, but not tuning it will also potentially take away from the gas mileage because the bike -might- run rich or lean which will also hurt the overall performance.
@@Smitty39 I figured it would run richer if not tuned properly. But I do know the more you do for performance the more mpg you lose unless you do something that helps the mpg
Hi guys. Can we start putting a mic on Chris ??? It would be nice to hear him as clean and crisp as we hear Mr. BH.
Agreed. I can mostly hear him but he does get too far out at times
I have to say, you two together are a great team in detailed explaining of tech. Keep up the awesome job!
Thank you! 👊🏼
Get in depth! Nothing is boring.
we wanna see sick wideglides bike. please do a vid on maybe the top 5 high flow air cleaners that let in the most air flow. looking forward to the rest of this series
Thank you guys. This is a great video. I just bought my first Harley so “Im new! I don’t know what to do!” But I’m really excited. Thanks for clearing up what’s going on
Ran an open air cleaner like the Trask for a while…had to change and clean it often because it filled up with bugs and dirt.
Ended up switching back to closed air cleaner high flow filter for easier maintenance.
Just bought a 22 Sport Glide and had a stage 1 installed....love the sound of the air compression when you start the bike 💪🏍💨
What I love about the way Chris works is how he lays everything out neatly and organised ready to install. Us normal folk rip open the box as soon as it arrives, and try to throw it on the bike in our work clothes and make a mess everywhere haha
So true, haha
One of the things I have learned in life is preparation is key, and you can apply that to about everything in life.
That’s me every time something comes in the mail. I’m in the garage in Cole Hanns, slacks and a golf polo trying to install parts without getting my clothes dirty, just due to pure excitement. Haha!
@@levidavid09 hah totally.
Nice, but wondering if one can do this in CA (legally).
Glad I'm part of the percentage that's subscribed! #Blockfam
And Chris is really awesome on the channel man, loving the content.
I just hit the subscribe button. I had a stage 1 done to my 2015 Wide Glide, a bigger more
free flowing air cleaner, Vance&Hines short shots and an electronic device for allowing the
injectors to admitt more fuel to the engine. . .I had ThunderBay custom cycles do this in
Tampa, FL. then they dyna-tuned it. The bike sounds much more like a Harley than the
souped up sewing machine it sounded like when I bought it.
Damn, what a delicious sound. Quick question, if I just put slip on, do I have to tune?
My first roadglide had stage one with an aftermarket exhaust. It came with the tuner and a dyno print out to prove its gain in output. It was a decent difference. Of course I went from an 05 to with an 88 on it to a rg with a 2019 rg 114 mk 8. My current roadglide is a 114 mk8 but doesn't yet have any upgrades. I traded for a 2020 rg special commemorative in blue and white. I did notice the difference in power but the 114 is still a powerful engine. The bike you worked on looked great with the stock chrome exhaust. To bad the customer didnt go with an aftermarket chrome pipe. I agree it sounds much better and I'm sure feels better powered but with the chrome it already has that just looks off. I would've gone with a long chrome pipe . Do those who are already subscribed loose the greasiness on the fingers or are were just greasier?
Why do a lot of people only do slip ones with a new air cleaner and no tuner? Is there a benefit to that apart from cost?
Not boring at all ! Keep the knowledgeable content coming ! It’s well appreciated over hear !
I work at Motown Harley Davidson In Taylor Michigan you should come stop by sometime Harley Davidson's have always been a Passion of mine You were the one who inspired me to purchase my 2020 48 sportster
I'll be honest. I never knew that's why the filters were red.. I love this type of content.
Love this educational style video and level of detail! Keep ehm coming !
Did a Stage 1 and just used those plug in Xied thingys on my Rocker C for $110 and saved hundreds over getting a "tuner".. works great. Air fuel ration changed and she purrs now.
Xied? Thingys?
@@Supremebean303 little resistors that plug in between the o2 sensors. Tricks the bikes computer on fuel injected bike into thinking its running way too lean and enriches the air fuel mixture. Cheap alternative for stage 1 vs getting a tuner. DK Customs
i could listen to chris talk about bikes and bike parts all day
Thanks for these videos and all the detailed explanation from you and Chris. Really cool that you guys drop this knowledge! ✌️
Like the 2 into 1 exhaust. Sounds good.
You guys are so detailed and comprehensive. I have learned quite a lot the last few days watching your vids. You have me now.
Always enjoyed your channel...it keeps getting better!
this video has taught me chris has such a good fashion taste
and taught me some parts of motorcycles and what they do too
I’ve been told over my 60 years, that the best air filter oil to use is trans fluid mixed with alcohol ( which thins it down to use in a spray bottle). Alcohol dissolves quickly and doesn’t hurt paper based filters. Some synthetic based filters, don’t use it. I treat the filters on my 6-71 blown 392 Hemi gasser with diluted trans fluid and never had a problem. Same as my RK.
I rarely subscribe to RUclips channels but I did with this cause I was impressed with the video. Great instruction, well done.
Great team guys. Chris is not only a great
Mechanic but super at getting over the details. Learning a lot listening to him. Best to you both from Ireland. 🤘🏻
Love this video, I am considering a stage 1 on my 2021 M8. This helps tremendously because there are only so many options since I'm under warranty.
Thank you for this video, as simple as it is, it gives a better perspective on Harley’s/ motorcycles.looking forward to more videos.
ok heres a question if i change out pipes from stock to a 2into 1 and i have a high flow stock air filter do i need to install a tuner ??
From England - Looking to buy my first Harley in the next few months and watching this video has made me realise how you can make a bland Harley into something totally awesome. Oh and I've used my greasy fingers to subscribe to your channel. Any ideas for a first Harley for two up riding for a 5'7" shorty would be helpful....
I love this kind of stuff as I operate and fix big machinery. Great vid. I learned some!
Hey guys, love these episode's. I recently bought a new softail 114 and love how in depth you discuss and show details that might easily be overlooked, keep up the great vids,
So does a Stage 1 include a full exhaust or does a slip-on count?
Watching from Germany. Been subscribed since your Ms. Blockhead Learn to Ride vids.
Hey Blockhead, you da man . Thanks for all the work and content
Very helpful video just bought a 22 street Bob and I was looking into doing this
Hey, thanks for the vid !
What about the raised of the fuel consumption with those stages ?
Thanks
Great vid, got all my Stage 1 parts, now I just need the bike delivered!!! Thanks for this.
You guys do great work, just wandering how much it cost to put the cam in it with the stage 1and all the work, definitely worth the money 💯😁👍
Loved this video! I can't wait for the rest of the series! Thanks
I learned a lot from this video. I’m thinking about putting slip ons on my 2019 Heritage Classic 114 and I don’t even know what things to consider. You guys explain things in a way that even I can understand. Subscribed.
Not a big deal, but another advantage of changing out the exhaust is you will loose about 30-50 pounds of weight because the stock Harley brackets etc. are very heavy.
🤦♂️
Very informative and useful video. Thanks a lot
Excellent video, easy to understand, thanks. I bought a 2020 Softail Standard last week that I want to modify. My plans are a Stage 2, but at this point, I haven't even decided on the Stage 1 parts yet. I assume the bike is passed warranty so whatever pipes I add should be fine.
This is great and super informative, thanks for doing this series
I will NEVER sub.... but I will watch....and like.....FTW!
Thank you for the tutorials
Hey guys! Love the info you guys are sharing in this video. I’d really appreciate it if you guys took some time to discuss windshields. Not just sizing but also Advantages/disadvantages for a full size, short, mini, and no windshields/fairings. Maybe include some suggestions on what windshields you’d suggest for bike type or rider. If you haven’t already. Cheers!
I was about to comment on Chris' hat game! 🤣
This content is gold! Love it
Bike sounds pisser compared to stock !! 👍🏼 2 questions though. 1) this bike DOES have a bigger cam installed correct? This next question might be more relevant to the higher stage builds like 2,3 or 4 but when having to do annual inspection are things going to have to be changed in order to pass emissions (O2 sensors), sound (loudness) etc or is is just a matter of tuning the bike in order to pass ?
Thx for shearing ur experience Sir!
you guys are literrly living my dream i love everything about your channel please never stop
Just realized today, that I’ve been watching TONS of vids and haven’t subbed. . . . Today that has changed. Good work as always, longtime viewer, new time subber.
Good explanation and demonstration.
Finally some video explaining stage thing.
Subscribed! Great video. Can you include the tools needed to do this?
You learn something new everyday
Love the video! Can't wait for stage 2
Very informative and entertaining ! Thanks guys ! Pierre in NYC
Hey Block. I love your videos. One point I’ve been trying to get through to people and especially HD. Anytime you put a backrest on your bike your asking for trouble. I realize they help with support but if you think back to what was called Whiplash, your neck not being supported with a headrest. In this case if you are hit from behind from even a person at a red light, you’ll have a bad back injury. A broken back wouldn’t surprise me. Please Block I’m trying to get someone to make a give way rest that will give when X amount of pressure is on it.
Ride safe.
The fella who owns that bike is smart
He Purchased S&S ♥️
Love from DeKalb Mississippi USA 🇺🇸
Thanks for the explanation! I'm no kind of wrench monkey. I'm just a nerd with a badass moto. I'm also installing these things myself. I just want to learn and you guys have helped a ton.
Great channel. I love the mechanic oriented videos. No only does chris know what he is doing but he is great at conveying it to the viewer. You are definitely not boring me. I could could watch this shite all day long.
That’s sounds sooooooooo much better. Subscribed from the UK 🇬🇧
I like quiet - if I put a high flow aircleaner on my sportster no tuner and use standard mufflers will it be OK? Appreciate your video 👍
Very informative and nicely done. New to this and the channel, and this certainly helped me get a grasp on not only what is involved in a stage 1, but how it all ties together. I do have one question. Right now my budget limits me to slip-ons. So, on this bike, a 114 Fatboy, do I need a tune or will the factory ECM handle the new configuration on its on? Thanks again for the great video!
Nice!!! Looks and sounds much much better, appreciate the information.
I have the Kuryakyn Hyper Charger ES air cleaner. Has the butterfly flaps that open with the electric solenoid based on throttle position.
It definitely doesn’t give me as much gain as a complete open air cleaner, but it’s cool as hell. Lol
So you said you guys prefer dynojet. What are your thoughts on thundermax
Reversion is the word when exhaust or “Air” gets sucked back in to the cylinder. Fueling has an awesome pipe that keeps it from happening.
You guys are awesome and you give me so many ideas for my sporty
Is the factory breakout 117 intake worthwhile or not? I just picked out a 23 breakout and don’t know much about modding Harley’s. Cars sure, second bike, first Harley 😎
Great video! 👍
Is it mandatory to do tune when you’re just changing the pipes to drag pipes for example? And is it nesesary to change all together pipes and air cleaner together or you can do just pipes?
Appreciate the video. Thank You!
I love that t-shirt design that Chris is wearing, are they available to buy?
Love the channel too!
Chris has so much style. Hats n tats!
I'm subbed. I'd like some advice on my next used Harley. Looking into a Road King. I had an M8 Heritage and loved it. Bone stock, but absolutely loved it. Recently, I sat on a twin cam. Started that thing up and man what a totally different but super awesome vibe!!!!! I am planning some motorcycle vacations, riding great roads, camping and fishing. Any reason I shouldn't consider a twin cam? Love power as much as the next guy, but the feel of that twin cam so got under my skin! If I go twin cam any year I should avoid? What about the cam chain tensioner issue? Any good information appreciated
Great video. I’ve got a 2020 Road Glide that currently just has S&S MK45 slip ons on it. Contemplating the full stage 1. I know there are a lot of variables when it comes to cost (depending on the components I choose) but, what’s the typical cost of having the tune done?
Once that tune is done I can kiss my Harley ESP goodbye pretty much as well don’t I?
Greet video. What exhaust you running many thanks.
When you’re using the DynoJet to tune it, are you using just the basic preinstalled options on the tuner? I’d say I’m pretty much a novice..
wouldn't mind if you guys go over the pressed together flywheel on newer bikes where in the past it was bolted down and torqued.
Just got a '22 FXLRS and was wondering what tuners won't void the 2 year warranty? Also, if I change the air intake and full exhaust I need/should tune right?
Thank you for this video.
More videos like this, keep up the good work guys 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the info! And yes Im subscribed! Question, will I damage the M8 if I change the exhaust without tuning it? Thanks for the guidance.
Great video. Chris is an awesome guy
Sounds awesome! You guys rock.
Thanks for posting.
👾 Awesome - now I do get what a stage one is! Can you explain how to do the 'tune' part just a wee bit more.
Super awesome I love all the explaining because someone like me who likes to know (why) it does what it does
Will adding a stage 1 kit to a 98 Harley Davidson fxdl dyna low rider cause a lean issue before tuning? Or a no idle condition that requires the enrichment knob to be slightly pulled out?
I am buying a 08 heritage softail next month. Will be my 1st Harley. I plan on using it to go see my kids n college about 3.5hrs away. I have injuries from Iraq and would like a comfortable ride. Do you have any vids for that? Thanks.
