And i have plan for driver 80 days around the world in the future. With a Harley! Have you seen the movie or read the book? 80 days around the world :)
About to get my 1k service (or 1600km as you'd say here) done on my fxlrs2022 coming month! This was very informative as always; thanks Block, Chris and Justin!
As an automobile tech with "a lot" of years under my belt, I appreciate your experience. Since owning my 3rd hd and having no experience working on these bad boys, I dig your channel. Thanks for doing what you do.....
I wish ALL HD dealerships had techs like this. Considering the cash your paying for the service, it would be better if you ( the client, who is paying a premium for the legend) would receive equivalent effort.
Chris did the 1k on my 2022 Fat Bob 114. It cost less than what my Harley dealership wanted, but more importantly he did it when it was due. My dealership didn't have an opening for over two weeks. I am happy with my decision and am planning to reach out to Blockhead soon for a dyno tune. Thanks guys! 👍
I just had a 1K service on a '21 Slim, and I noticed on the way home they adjusted the clutch,(which felt fine before), so that when I'm sitting stopped, in gear, with the clutch pulled in, the bike wants to creep if the brakes aren't engaged. Glad I got to see Chris do the proper adjustment so I can fix this before I ride it again. Probably be going to a different dealership for the 5K :)
It's a shame I don't have access to you guys up here in the North east. I would love to have Chris be the one who works on my bike. Love his enthusiasm and experience. Makes you feel like your bike is in good hands
Having just started as a tech for a Harley dealer, this kind of content is actually really helpful. As not everyone can teach us everything. Let alone in a way I can absorb the information given to me. Guess I'm gonna have to start watching more content now, homework I can get behind.
Speaking of critical fasteners, i usually check the transmission case/housing bolts. I see a lot of small leaks coming out of the bottom bolts. Usually after an exhaust has been changed, and then ran for a while.
Awesome service gentlemen! I was literally going to bring my 22 RKS to you guys, as I am just up the street from your shop. But Harley talked me out of it to keep it “certified” in the event I trade it in on a Road Glide ST in a couple years. They said it keeps the trade in value higher. Otherwise, I would’ve preferred taking it to the Blockhead Garage!
That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. They will give you 5 more dollars if you are lucky. I wouldn't deal with them just based on what they told you.
Subscribed. Great video, very informative. I just took my bike in for a 1k service and wound up paying like $800. I was mortified at the price 😂 but at least the amount of work I see being done explains the cost. Wish I lived closer I’d drop her off with y’all. Thanks again
Did my first oil change at 300+ miles. Visiting another dealer had a oil change special. New engine may have some metal particles floating around from manufacture. Was goimg to it at 500. Always changed oil on first startup of a newly rebuilt car engine when it gets to temp or running in a cam. Factory HD manual for your bike should list critical fasteners. Yea I'm old school.
I just hold throttle wide open and crank over the bike, holding it wide open won’t allow a drive by wire Harley to start and you can acquire oil pressure before starting. Gives me a lil piece of mind
Keep thorough notes on everything that you have done. In my experience no matter the brand or company if they can dodge out on a warranty they will. Having the receipts doesn't guarantee anything but it will help out.
What gauge relocation kit is that? I have a 2022 FXLRS and that looks like the best option I've seen. I hate the one with all the “sportster” light holes.
Yes Chris we do give a s#$t. Personally I think it's way cool that you're so experienced, knowledgeable, and well spoken. Blockhead was brilliant in bringing you on board. If I lived close by, Id be using your services on my bikes especially my El Diablo. Keep up all the good work. And I am subscribed!

My 2021 FXLRS clutch cable broke loose from the tranny at 1.2k. very unpredictable especially since the trany hasn't been touched and it was straight off the lot ( 2 weeks used)
Hi there ! Block, would it be difficult to test some cross fitment between models and years ? Things like wheels, fenders ... anything that could be interesting. Me particularly I would kill to know if I can put TC Fatboy wheels on a M8 Heritage. Those kind of cross fitment tests are always very useful for modders ;-) Thx !
I just got an st road glide and I’m taking a trip from Chicago to Gatlinburg TN and Florida then back to Chicago. That’s more than 1k, is it ok to get it serviced after I’m back or is that not a good idea. The thing is I purchase a package or deal where I paid for the first two services and I’ll get the third free Thanks in advance
I have an FXLRS with a 131.... I did the 1000 miles service and the bike is been in the garage for the winter.... it has 2000 mile now and I'm changing the oil... I'm not waiting for 5000 miles.... hey Blockhead... do you still have the 590 cam on your 131? I want to change the 517 for something bigger but I think 590 is too high....

I like less frequent service intervals. My Porsche is 12,000 miles or 1 year. It’s $1000 but I am too busy to keep dropping cars off at 1k , 5k etc. even Honda motorcycles are 4k. Electronics and better engines allow less frequent service. Remember BMW cars paid for maintenance. You waited for the red light. Oil changes where lengthened to 18,000 miles. Service is were these companies make the money. You do not want the next owner to get the best deal! Lol
Hey blockhead is there an email or someway for me to get in touch with you? I’m in the process of doing some wiring on my iron 883 after it was attempted to be stolen. I’m in need of some insight and would really appreciate it if I could reach out to you with a question that would be much appreciated. Harley Davidson in Fremont NE is not answering my question or open to helping me by giving me no answers to my question. Thanks and great content as usual.
I just tried that motul in my 2020 hd last week on my oil change. Seems like good stuff seein chris use it shows i made a good choice. Prior i used syn 3 in the 2020 bike and amsoil in my older hd's.
Used Motul in my 890R, found it trashed more than the Castrol Power it replaced and had more valve noise in the process. I use Amsoil in the V Twins and Castrol Power in the others. Edit: Chris used it bc it benefited him. If Amsoil had made it worth it to him, he’d have used that. Everything is product placement, bc Amsoil has lab testing that proves it’s better, but everyone has their opinion.

Since the brake system is a critical .... In which that HD now guarantees that their mechanics have checked these systems to be good until the next service. Should such a system fail at any time up until the next service including 6 months, yr etc later. Then it falls back on HD to be responsible anything to include rider, motorcycle and anything hit by the motorcycle. You must remember that all documents including shop manuals are read by a lawyer and we all know how everyone was suing each other in the 90's early 00's So a good lawyer or maybe just a shop tech that helped write the manual. Came up with a bright idea that a bolt that holds this plastic to the frame be a critical structure. If you don't want the "dealership treatment" get your hands dirty and learn to take care of your machine yourself. A friend of mine said a Harley dealer charged him $1,800 dollars to check over a used Harley. He then had to bring it to me, because the exhaust bolts had fallen off the bike. Brakes were full of air, loose handlebars, dirty plugs, and filthy injectors, faulty brake light switch. I fixed all of it for $500.00 Be careful out there, sometimes businesses that LOOK PROFESSIONAL are nothing but a façade for mediocrity and laziness. Cheers and ride safe fellow wind worshiper's.

You guys are to be commended for your honesty and real talk. Thanks for cutting through all the B.S. that abounds in this world of motorcycles.
I've seen CVO's with no primary fluid on a PDI...so 1k critical fasteners is essential to catch whatever the factory or PDI tech missed...
The trick I've found for drain plugs is to use a small allen wrench. That will get it tight enough without giving you enough leverage to overtighten

@5:00 there is literally a critical fasteners section in the manual that tells you exactly what fasteners they are for that model/year
insightful. A new Sportster S. Things would be a little different but I am half way to the 5K service. Nice to know what they are looking for.

How does doing a service outside the dealership affect warranty?
Depends on what is done to the bike and if any problems can be attributed to it by HD.
